From the author:
I’ve been plotting this story for a very, very long time, and made several attempts on writing it, so its characters became almost real people for me.

My main character Amelia is an 18 y.o. pampered child of one of the most influential politicians in the country, and when you hear this description you think of a spoiled teenager who wants to party all the time and not to give a damn about anything.
To break this cliche, I decided to create a character who actually cares a lot about everything and when she sees people suffering she feels like she has to make a difference. But in order to do so, she has to know life better as she lived for too long in a bubble of safety. So it's the main theme of the book - reconnecting with the world and people around.

.........The novel flows smoothly, the characters are well fleshed out and the best part is how the Brazilian countryside is described. I could visualize the charming scenery of the towns and follow the adventures of Amelia as they unfolded.

A strong and badass girl protagonist, jaw-dropping plot twists and exotic Brazilian settings - everything as I like!
I appreciated that even negative characters are portrayed as human beings with the mindset that motivates them to do what they do.
As a feminist I liked that a story emphasized the problems of abuse women face and enjoyed the storyline of Fortunata and Amelia friendship and mutual support the most.

I was excited to discover a book that stands out by its point of view and locale.
I felt like I took a trip with the main character across the country with its beautiful nature and cities.

The main character Amelia won my heart with her genuine interest for people around her, compassion, and courage to take the challenge when someone is threatening her and people she loves.

The story is taking place in modern day Brazil and shows many layers and aspects of Brazilian society, from waiters and auto repair workers to owners of huge corporations and politicians.

Enjoyed the book from first page to the last!

This book was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.

This is a very tense story full of action and mystery. I think the plot had a great potential, but the execution wasn't that great. I expected more descriptive writing considering the setting (Brazil) and I must admit that the setting was the thing that got me drown to this book in the first place.
The characters are very unrealistic, good or bad, no shades in between and the dialogues are extremely unnatural. They reminded me of the dialogues in soap operas. The motivation for some of the characters' actions was a bit unclear or not explained enough (Amelia leaving home, for example).

Still, I think that this book has a lot of potential, but it needs a good editing and some work on the dialogues.

Trigger Warning: Violence & Abuse

I never imagined to read and actually like a genre like this, full of emotions, adventures and mystery.

Right from the cover and till the last page of this book, I was dumbfounded. I can't believe that this is author's debut because she has not missed hitting any nail.

Our main protagonist, Amelia, is born in a Brazilian family with all the wealth, people can only dream of. She has everything that a person desires to lead a happy and safe life but still she doesn't like when her mother takes her to be an "immature" and incapable of making decisions.

Her father stands for election and definitely these things comes with a price. Right from there, Amelia and her family is targeted by people who don't want to let her father win this election. Amelia is highly disturbed with the on going events and she desperately wants to leave her home and start a fresh live somewhere far away. Will she succeed in this?

Follow this journey of Amelia where she sets out to a new place and works in a bar to manage bread & butter for herself. Amelia meets Fortunata who is a painter but mostly she is a prostitute who chose this path only to pay debts of her abusive boy friend.

This book is a blend of so many genre which truly complement this book. Writing style is smooth and lucid to understand. This book has some lose ends, in some parts of it but I feel they are later compensated by the story.

I felt flabbergasted to read about Amelia, a strong young female character who left her home just to find some answers which were bothering her and also to prove her strength. Hats off to author for keeping the character of Amelia, likeable.

There is no target audience of this book but at least read it if you are 15+ and you love books like this, thrilling, inspiring and unputdownable.

The story has a good pace and moves without too much of frills. A quick read that has just about enough details without boring the reader.

A good book for the teens. The author has made a good first try for the debut novel.

Enjoyable

Was an entertaining read, easy and fast I would put a 3.8/5 because it was hard for me at the beginning to be into this book, but later it was getting more interesting the reading.

Amelia is a young Brazilian woman, daughter of a prominent political figure.

A series of events soon follow: a robbery, an attempted kidnapping, and a murder—all resulting in Amelia fleeing to figure out what’s going on. Was Amelia being hunted?

The story certainly has an air of intrigue with a budding excitement. For the most part, Amelia is on her own, trying to figure out her next steps. In the interim, she meets a cast of characters and lives her life separate from her old one. This part can be quite lengthy. Story had an easy narrative and dialogue, but had a slow pace. At times, it can even be a little chaotic and puzzling with all the names thrown in.

The mystery is finally picked up again toward the end with an espionage trail leading the way.

An okay read.

I received a free ARC from Goodreads New Adult Book Club for the promise of an honest.

I couldn't really get into the book. I did finish the book but my mind wouldn't focus. Amelia is a young girl from an affluent family. Her father is running for a political office. Someone is trying to influence the outcome of this election. This person tries to kidnap Amelia but she got away. Amelia left town for her own safety but she quickly discovered that she was stuck in a web. With the help of her classmate, Marcelu, they work to untangle the web.

If you are looking for a fast paced moving book, this isn't it. The plot is good. The characters were good. The book just did not appeal to me.
