The "Necessary Evil" storyline has not let down fans of the original Power Rangers storyline. We're treated to a genuine humanizing moment in this volume that puts the life of a Ranger into perspective, which feels refreshing.

Right back on track with the continuation of this story and the breakout and major turning point with the Omega Rangers. Again, I love what this series is doing with villains and when you wonder if this comic series will become as repetitive as the show was, you’re proven very wrong. This story is very fresh with the ideas that Ryan Parrott plays with and I’m having a crazy amount of fun reading this!

A fun, action packed volume. The Omega Rangers get into some serious trouble and have to return to some old friends. I am really enjoying this arc and the return to form for the series. I can't wait to see how all these baddies get handled in the next volumes.

[This review covers Volumes 11-13 of MMPR, the Necessary Evil event]

Necessary Evil extends into the Mighty Morphin' title, as Jason, Zack, and Trini head off on a secret mission that threatens the entire universe as the Omega Rangers, while new recruits Rocky, Aisha, and Adam struggle to fit into the new team dynamic as Lord Zedd steps up to battle the original Power Rangers!

After the experiment of Beyond The Grid, Necessary Evil is the aftermath to Shattered Grid that we really needed/deserved. This story, split into two halves, deals with the fallout of the Morphin Grid being breached, and the effects of unrestrained Morphin' energy that opens up the MMPR world to even higher heights than before - we're out across the stars, we're dealing with refugees and such, it's a job that feels so much bigger than anything else the Rangers have faced (bar Drakkon, obviously), so it's easy to see why Boom! billed this as an event when it's really just a banner for this title and Go Go to share.

There's fun to be had back on Earth too, as the new rangers really start to bed themselves in; while Go Go introduces them, Mighty Morphin hits the ground running and gets them into the thick of it, and it's great to see their evolution, especially as the threat from Lord Zedd ramps up over the course of the event. It all culminates with a big throwdown that includes the Mighty Morphin' and Omega Rangers that feels well worthy of the oversized issue 50 that rounds it all out, which throws back to the past 50 issues (including Beyond The Grid in a really clever way).

Pencilling all 11 issues including the majority of the oversized issue 50 is superstart Daniele Di Nicuolo, who makes his mark on this book for certain with superb visuals, well choreographed fight scenes, and battles between Rangers, Zords, and newly designed characters alike that just look gorgeous.

Necessary Evil may have been as a result of Shattered Grid, but it's a superb storyline on its own that tests the Rangers, forces them to grow, and manages to juggle two storylines and introduce new characters without missing a beat. The Power Rangers are back, baby!

This volume officially kicks off the new arc: Necessary Evil with the newest addition to the Omega Ranger team Kiya adhering to the mantra “the ends justifies the means” as she turns against the path she was set upon. Though I’m a bit ambivalent to Kiya and perhaps a bit annoyed at the tired alien person is the traitor trope, I do think this arc might prove interesting as it moves forward.

Overall, this was a good volume in that we had a lot of growth points for the main ranger characters across both teams. Both Tommy and Jason undergo growing pains as leaders for their respective ranger teams. While Tommy suffers from the a sudden bout of confidence in his abilities to lead his team, Jason wrestles between choices that benefit the long-term versus the short-term.

Moreover, Kimberly and Billy continue to feel their seniority within the team and the beginning of an itch to move on like their other teammates. Specifically, there is a minor moment in the volume that hints that Kimberly’s farewell is not far away.

But, the biggest relief comes when the truth is finally out about the Omega Rangers. Trini and Zack not only have to navigate their friends’ ire, but the fallout from their secrecy and dishonesty. Trini especially has a rough go at it as both Kimberly and Billy feel the sting of her lack of trust in them. Ultimately, I like how this series has given our main ranger team (the original rangers) the space to develop and continue to be part of the series in a way that makes more sense than how they were written off. Jason, Trini, and Zack moving on to working as a new ranger team that operates outside of Earth but still has a mission to fight the good fight makes way more character sense than the show’s flimsy excuse of a peace conference.

The split team doesn't stay split too long as the Omega Rangers make a fatal mistake, creating a new enemy they might not be able to handle.

This is another really solid volume. Ever since Parrott took over it has only gotten better. With the art still super solid for fight scenes, character growth from everyone, and an ending that left me going "how do they get out of this?" I'm excited to read the final two volumes before the rebirth of the new series.

The Omega zords come in to help! And the Omega rangers leave without speaking. I love the tension between the two ranger teams.

These comics continue to show such interesting perspectives that didn't exist within the original show. Bulk interviews the public about this new Power Ranger team. Tommy and Jason having conversations about leadership that weren't able to happen in the show is so cool to see, especially when we know Jason is now an Omega ranger but Tommy doesn't. Jason fighting Zedd is also pretty epic. There's also an awesome fighting sequence with a pissed off Kim doing her thing.

The Emissary even has Hyperforce Blue as part of their rotation! Kiya has a big change, but it feels justified and it's exciting for the story moving forward.

The combination of rangers at the end of this book is so exciting to see because it never happened on the show and I always wanted to see these characters interact.

This volume really showcases the comics finally separating themselves from the story of the original show. I'm so happy to have this ongoing series and the new ongoing series continuing this story. I give this volume a 5/5.

This threads the needle for me, bringing the Earth Rangers and Omega Rangers into a fairly compelling, it at times rushed, narrative sequence where we finally get to see some characters interacting in engaging and interesting ways. I was a little bummed to see Dayne removed so quickly from the narrative but love that we get him back just a few issues later. This actually feels like fairly uncharted territory where the threats loom as real, which honestly makes this all feel like it has the weight of stakes that earlier volumes didn’t. Art remains great — it feels comic-booky but doesn’t deviate too much from the television aesthetic either.

Two ranger teams! New developments with Zedd and co, and a betrayal that brings all the threads together. This volume had a lot of drama as Kim and Tommy lose trust in their old friends, and the Omega Rangers make the choice to return to Earth after one of their own goes rogue. Also the covers for this volume were amazing.

Uh oh...one of their own have betrayed them and become the defacto villain of the Necessary Evil run. Kiya takes out their leader and now is on a quest to destroy the Power Rangers to "protect" the galaxy from anything like Shattered Grid ever happening again. The Omega Rangers need to come together with the Mighty Morphin Rangers in order to take out this new threat.

The artwork is just so inconsistent. Some pages look great, others it's impossible to tell what exactly is happening in a panel(s). Just when the story starts to get good, the volume end. The story also lacks the same high stakes as earlier arcs.

I love the jump this makes and the confusion it causes for the reader. Really cool to dive into that excitement. Even better if you read the Go Go series as they go hand in hand!

Was left wanting more. Should've known better and bought more volumes instead of just 11 & 12. Can't wait to see where the story leads.

Continues to be great. This crossover is tying up loose ends and setting up an exciting new status quo while making a meal out of one of the more frustrating aspects of the original series.
