I had never heard of Bobbie Louise Hawkins, but am a total convert. This novella is so great, unfinished in a good way, like life is, things are messy and complicated but still sweet and lovely. It's like the novella a poet would write. I guess maybe she is a poet.
Bobbie Louise Hawkins tells a gorgeous "kind of love" story here - very economical and poetic. No self-indulgent meanderings by the narrator, just classy coming-of-age storytelling. I am going to hunt down the rest of her books.
