Black Widows Academy : Complete Collection

Rate this book
What doesn't break me will make me stronger.

My name is Zhavia and I used to be a rookie cop. A twist of fate has me declared dead and I'm now a freshman at the world's deadliest criminal academy, The Black Widows.

I can't go back. I can't stay here.

Bullies try to trample me, my classes are more dangerous than my assassination missions and worst of all, I don't think they're all human here. The odds are stacked against me and not even my one friend thinks I will survive the semester.

I found a twisted sense of comfort in the men assigned to train me, but can I trust they'll put me back together once they've broken me? Emrys, Cassian, Morgan. Three handsome high ranked assassins, loyal to the Academy. Will they just be my tormentors or my saviors?

This is the complete series collection, all three novels are now under one umbrella, a dark romance where the heroine does not have to choose between love interests. It is intended for mature audiences.

*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.

What a great collection this is. We meet Zhavia a kick butt cop who is transferring back to her small hometown in order to help out her sister. She decides to have a fling with a guy that will change her life as she knows it. Before the night is over she is supposedly dead and has been sent to an Academy for assassins. That is just the tip of the iceberg because as she is trying to survive the cruel curriculum she discovers the paranormal world. Since it is the complete collection we get to follow events from one intriguing incident to another meeting a fascinating group of men as it goes along. Makes for a great read that you won't want to put down. I really liked it so I give it 4/5 stars.

I feel like this book is one of the darkest I've ever read. Zhavia meets a man, has a one-night stand and then she finds herself at the Black Widows Academy to learn how to be an assassin. After her husband died, she lost the will to live, so she accepts what comes to her, the more painful the better. Pain is all she has left to feel alive.

At the academy the trainees, all female, are abused by the Masters, teachers whose job is to teach them how to kill and seduce their targets. Abuse is encouraged and nobody sees anything wrong. Zhavia sees it, but then even if she fights it a little bit at the beginning she comes to accept it. Together with her four men, she needs to figure out if the academy is the bad or the good guy, and get her life back.

I usually don't read many dark books, as they give me anxiety. This one had an interesting story. It's dark from the beginning to the end, and I wouldn't call Zhavia a heroine, but one of the villains who is trying to do good by doing bad things. She's broken, and life keeps breaking her up again, but she always tried to put herself back together, no matter how twisted she becomes.

I was kindly provided with an ARC by the author, but I'm leaving a voluntary and honest review.

Overall this set is a brilliant story. I guess my major complaint is how things would build up and then get cut, almost like someone edited part of the book right out from under me. The ending was great, but the final chapter could have gone a million different ways that would have left me even more satisfied. You will definitely want the extended epilogue, though. I feel like I’m complaining about the book when I did enjoy it, and I feel like other readers would enjoy it too-even with the weird spots that don’t quite jive and the frustration of wanting something different for the characters, this book was definitely a five star read. Give it a chance. It took a couple of chapters to hook me, but once I was invested, I didn’t want to leave. **edited to add that it turns out the spots where I felt like I was missing something is because they are in other books by the author - I love crossover books so that is a definite perk!**

A very interesting series that has a different take on the Academy trope. There are loads of dark themes in this book and so if you are trigger sensitive you need to be aware/warned now.

The FMC, Zhavia, goes through a whole journey of being humanly weak to a k assassin in these three books. The men on her life are anything but soft teddy bears as well. The details that go into these books are very thorough. You can imagine the people as well as the places with very little effort.

These books are a non-stop roller coaster rode that will capture your attention from the first page.

What a fab collection and all in one boxset! A well written dark paranormal why choose romance that will have you hooked from the very start! There’s so much going on as we join the world's deadliest criminal academy, The Black Widows. Our female mc is so totally badass even though the journey she takes has so many ups and downs and twists and turns, she deals with it all including her tormentors / mates!

This series is dark, twisted and full of depraved sexual acts, death, murder, blood and more. Please do not read if you have triggers.

I have reviewed each book separately. I think the overall series was good, it was a completely different take on academy books and was very, very dark.
Zhavia was a strong character, she stood her ground but also wasn't invincible. She showed a softer side when needed but stayed strong enough to survive everything thrown at her.
I struggled sometimes with how the guys treated the women, especially Zhavia, and then all seemed to be forgiven, or at least brushed away. They did redeem themselves throughout the series but at the beginning it was a little hard to get my head round.
Some parts of the story seem to build up to something, but then it would just cut away and not be explained, as if the chapters or scenes had been edited out - I would have preferred that they had stayed in. Even though there were explained, I still felt like I had missed chunks of the story.

4 stars
Semester One
I really enjoyed this book, its a little dark and a lot steamy.
Zhavia is a cop with a rebel side, although since the death of her husband she's been going through the motions. Then she mets Emrys and it changes everything - starting with attending the Black Widow assassin academy.
I loved Zhavia's character, she was sassy, confident and didn't conform to what others demanded. She did seem to pick and choose what she was frightened of sometimes though, but overall a great character to read.
Emrys, Cassian and Morgan are Masters, there to train the Black Widows any way they see fit - nothing is off limits. All three see something different in Zhavia than the usual recruits.
A great start to the series and an unexpected cliffhanger!

4 stars
Semester Two
This continues where Semester One left off. Zhavia is missing and it seems like all the guys are starting to almost work together to help find her, and I say almost, they don't want to but do.
Semester Two continues with the dark and twisted nature of the Academy. I was starting to think that the whole book would just be a mix of torture, sex, missions and sadistic Masters and it had started to get a bit.....boring..... which is the wrong word considering the content but it lacked more story. But then, bam! The storyline totally picked up and had me hooked for the rest of the book. We find out more about the characters, and what had happened to Zhavia. The Gemini twins come into it more and then the real interesting information starts to come out.
Then comes the little bomb at the end - I cannot wait for Semester Three.

3 stars
Semester Three
This continues where Semester Two left off. Zhavia has finally discovered Emrys' secret and she doesn't know how to deal with it all at first.
I must admit I was starting to get very confused over Robert and the part he seemed to play in the bigger picture - was he saving the girls? He seems to have the same appetite as the masters and it just didn't make complete sense to me - where did they all go? How did he stay away and off the radar for so long?
I was waiting for the big confrontation with Valderrama, he was after all running the entire operation so the ending was a bit of a disappointing for me as it was all completely glossed over in favour of her men. There was no explanation as to how it all happens, it was just all over.
The epilogue was not what I was expecting and was a complete transformation of the Academy and the residents.

Black Widows Academy is a dark paranormal romance series written by Dahlia Briar. In this collection the author introduces readers to Zhavia, a cop moving from Canton back to her old home town to help her sister out as she struggles to make ends meet. Zhavia crosses paths with a strange man outside of a bar while dealing with the unwanted attentions of a guy she kinda liked but was never really that interested in. A few days after moving back to her old town, Zhavia crosses paths again with the strange man she met outside the bar, and that’s when her whole world gets turned upside down.
Black Widows Academy is the first book that I have read by Dahlia Briar. I enjoy paranormal romance novels, and so I was eager to read this book to see what kind of characters the author would give me. The story starts out a bit slow and takes awhile to gain traction and get going. My curiosity is piqued concerning Zhavia, and why she’s moving back to a small town that she left years ago. The author gives readers some ideas here and there, one being that her sister’s husband has bailed yet again and that she’s struggling to make ends meet on her own. There is some tension between the two sisters, and it seems that that tension is going to go unresolved.
For me, this book is just…okay. Zhavia going/being sent to Black Widows Academy…it’s a bit anti-climactic. I was expecting something different than what I get. I thought that this series would basically follow the similar troupe of that she has a unique ability or something that sets her apart from the rest and that that’s what gets her sent or recruited there. Not exactly the case with this book, which causes me to be disappointed. Revenge is always viewed as a good motivator but, in this case…it’s a stretch. The romance angle in this book doesn’t really exist that much. It gradually develops after a while, but it’s more BDSM than romance. The female characters developing under the “tutelage” of “discipline” and pain. There are some paranormal elements scattered throughout the book, but I wanted more.
I’m rating this book 3.8 out of 5 stars. It’s an okay book, but not something that I’d have probably read as far into if I had read the books separately. There are questions that are left unanswered in certain scenes that are basically never going to be answered because of how the author handles things. There are some situations that I wanted more, but the storyline was moved along to other scenes that I just wasn’t as interested in. This collection is okay, but not one of my favorites. If you like “paranormal romance” novels and academy novels, then you might want to check this book out.

Zhavia was a rookie cop. She had recently lost her husband and was just existing in the the world. She met someone who completely rocked her world but this mysterious stranger had a lot of secrets of his own. Zhavia ended up at an Academy where they master the art of seduction and assassination. There also are punished with by the Masters for any wrongdoing. To make matters worse, the other "little spiders" are encouraged to be violent.

This was a fantastic series! I didn't know what to expect, but ended up losing a lot of sleep reading this. I loved the journey of our FMC, She started off not knowing where she belongs to take no crap from anyone. She's sassy, tough, a bit broken broken but a survivor and her guys are a bit broken as well. These are definitely not your normal academy books, pretty dark at times but really had me wanting more.

Note: this may contain some themes and triggers that may not be suitable for everyone. Please take that under advisement.

I received an ARC and voluntarily gave my honest opinion and review

Emrys is an assassin who has been stalking the wife of one of his marks - Zharia (FMC). Cop Zharia ends up getting entangled with Emrys which in turn ends up with her being enrolled at The Black Widows Academy. A dark school to learn how to be a assassin and to learn how to use sex as part of that. The so called Masters there treating the Spiders (girls/students) there as glorified sex toys/slaves or their definition of that. To be used. Some of which shocked the hell out of me. All of which pits the girls against each other to get attention and anything they want. Except Zharia doesnt stoop to that level which i what i loved about her. Complications though come in the form of Emrys, Cassian, Morgan and eventually Faust. Very dark in places (some of which might upset some) with plenty of smoking hot sexy times throughout. Its a definitely a more adult read but if you like your books darker then this is for you. I did and its a great read

Dark and twisted story not for the faint of heart.
Zhavia ends up at the Black Widows Academy after the death of her husband, embracing the pain it brings, being trained to be an assassin. Abuse is on the daily schedule, and no one seems to see anything wrong with the fact. Broken she might be, but her adaptivity makes Zhavia meet the challenges head on, including accepting her tormentors and turning it all to something more.
This was definitely one of the darkest series that I have read, full of twists and turns and potentially triggering scenes, covering plenty of dark themes. The whole story was a whirlwind of action and suspense, drama, end peaked emotions. It was difficult for me to decide if I should see Zhavia as "heroine" in the real sense or just the complicated and broken main character that fights her way through the pages and the life at the academy. However, I enjoyed this unusual spin on the academy trope a lot.

A very bumpy journey

Zhavia, a police officer, is set on a path towards destruction five years after her husband was murdered. As the story progresses a bad decision proves fatal tearing her from everything she knows, just when she thinks she has the answers to her man problems more show up, and the final battle may elude her grasp when ghosts resurrect themselves. Dahlia Briar’s Black Widows Academy follows the trials one woman goes through when finally taking a step forward after merely existing for years. Zhavia and the men she finds along the way have a very bumpy journey through the three semesters set in this reverse harem romance box set.

I read this book with my Kindle Unlimited subscription and I received a free copy of the book from the author. I had the opportunity to review or not.

This series was definitely a rollercoaster of a ride with ups and downs and all sorts of twists and turns. There were some rocky moments that made it a touch hard to continue and yet I had to know what would happen next. This was a pretty good series that was not what I was expecting and it had a good conclusion. Zhavia is a strong awesome main character and she’s not about to back down or let the bad treatment continue. She wants to change things and she’ll do what she needs to in order to accomplish her goals. She’s got a lot to deal with and had to rebuild herself up after she lost herself. The characters are so intense and very well developed. They have their flaws and their amazing traits. This series was very intense and there were some moments I completely adored and a few that made me want to scream at the characters or the things that were happening to them.

This series leaves me speechless. It’s a love hate relationship. I hate the disgusting way men act in the series, but I love that Zhavia is going in and turning the entire academy upside down and taking no prisoners. Well, maybe one. I love that she takes her life back from everything being taken from her. I hate that she had to completely lose who she was, to build herself back up. This series has you hating everything you should, but loving everything else. The characters are deep, and flawed, and learn. They are written amazingly, as well as the beautifully written storyline and plot. It all combines into a killer series, no pun intended. Well, maybe a little. This series was phenomenal.

This was the first series I have read from this author and I am happy to have found another author to read! I liked the concept of this story and its take on an “academy” themed book. I did feel like it took me a bit to get into the first book, but that being said, there was a lot of character development and story building going on and I think that in the long run, that was really good for the story as a whole. Once it got going, it was a total page turner. Zhavia is an interesting character and she grew on me quickly. She has gumption, adapts well to change and is generally pretty tough. There are some darker themes to this story, so keep that in mind ! Overall, I thought this was a well written story and I look forward to reading more from this author!

Addictive, Intoxicating and spellbinding, this set of books always leaves you wanting more and reaching for the next part of the storey. However if you have triggers then probably not for you as its Dark, Twisted, has some abuse and depravity
Our female MC Zhavia has been broken by the system and masters who teach the girls to seduce and kill but she is forever trying to mend herself and do the best she can in a world of wrong.
I loved everything about this series of books and just couldn't put them down, fantastically written with stunning and captivating characters, Multi layers of sub plots that are easily followed and wonderful action with romance. A must read for so many reasons. I am sure you will love these books as much as I did.

A great series pulled together into one collection with some added bonuses at the end. After her husband's death, rookie cop Zhavia is doing her best on her own in the world. Her plans are to move back home to help out her sister but meeting a stranger changes everything for her.

Zhavia goes on a whole journey during the series from being a plain human to becoming this badass assassin. Her men also aren't all lovey dovey which I liked. They have their own faults and their own problems as well as the secrets they keep from Zhavia.

I do like a good dark paranormal story, and the fact it's also a reverse harem so the leading lady doesn't have to choose between her men is a definite bonus.

This is an amazing series, it’s so well written with such detail. The storyline was unique and the suspenseful twists and turns kept me fully engaged and completely sucked in.
ZhaviaI a fantastic main character, along with the various men she interacts with throughout the series. I loved her strength, her determination and her passion - very kick ass.
The steamy scenes are honestly off the charts.
So many different paranormal species included in the storyline, with quite a few man made hybrid human species which were very interesting.
Overall I honestly thought this series was fantastic and will definitely read more from this author.

Wow, what a world the author has created. I love Zhavia and her can't quit attitude. No matter what is thrown at her, she won't let it stop her and clings to herself with a vengeance. This is not your typical reverse harem as you spend most of the story not knowing which men, if any she will end up with in the end. Each of the men have their own secrets and use Zhavia for their own purposes, but somehow she always ends up on top. Books one and two each end on cliffhangers, but the next book picks up right after and the series flows well together on one complete collection. The sex scenes are hot and the men are yummy!

What a great ride this was. Also how easy for all of the series to be in one book. What a ride this was with twists and turns everywhere. There will be moments to where everything will be going fine, and then bam!! Curve Ball!! But I have to admit, I enjoyed that rocky road so much.

Zhavia is a great main lead that I find needed in a girl. She does what she needs to, to get the job done. But people who want to change things, it is never easy. She never gives up, and that is what kept me turning the page. That and the plot.

So if you are looking for an intense and addicting red, found one for you!!

Intense, exciting paranormal RH series. Not your typical NA/YA academy series. I really liked that the kickass FMC was a little older with some life experience before being put in the academy. The harem is slow burn and confusing emotionally because they all have a lot of baggage. But everyone gets a HEA after all heck breaks loose and the dust settles. There are triggers to watch out for: attempted rape, assault, kidnapping, mention of rape, suicide, and human trafficking. Definitely recommend.

Fantastic series!! This series is well written and draws you in to experience the ups and downs alongside the characters. Plus, this is now a complete set and totally bingeable!! Zhavia is a bada$$ FMC that finds out about the supernatural world and turns it on its head. She does what she wants and takes no crap from other people. She ends up with men who love her but the journey is a hard one! Just an all around great series that will take you on a wild ride through Black Widows Academy and beyond! Love it! 💜🖤

Fantastic read definitely not what I expected when I started reading this. What I enjoy most about this series was that it's in a box set so I was able to enjoy the whole series without any interruption. "Totally Bingeable" by the way. I will warn you though this is a intense RH series there are triggers to watch out for like rape, human trafficking, assault, and kidnapping. But besides that it's a awesome read. As always my review are totally voluntarily no monetary compensation was received and the opinions I have expressed are my own.

Completely unique series, Black Widows Academy blew me away! And since this is a complete collection, you can just keep reading to your hearts content. Trust me, you won't be able to stop.

Zhavia is a strong heroine to follow as she finds herself at an academy with crazy classes, dangerous missions, and intense training. She is assigned three assassins to help her train and Emrys, Cassian, and Morgan definitely keep things intense. This is a fantastic series with many twists and turns, steamy moments, and tons of action!

Zhavia goes from a troubled teen to a housewife to reportedly dead turned black widow student at the academy for assassins with a short window of time. She goes through so much pain and agony but somehow still keeps a good heart ❤. She finds some sexy men that completely complicates everything but somehow it feels right. These are must read books for anyone that wants to see a woman go from rock bottom to top of her league while saving as many good people as she can! There are supernaturals involved too!!

Holy smokes this is one amazing series. I read the whole series at once. And I had no idea what to expect. The first book starts to introduce all the characters that will influence and change Zhavia’s life. I don’t want to spoil anything so you can be as enthralled by the series as I was. This is a dark romance and a reverse harem. The story does have some pretty dark moments. It isn’t just the dominant males but seem pretty mean females as well. The scenes get pretty damn hot at times. There will be plenty of blood and death. Just who can she trust and are friends even possible. Expect lots of intense moments and quite a few twists.

So dark, so addictive, I hate that I love it.

This actually pained me to read because I felt everything that the FMC felt, I applaud you, author for writing something so evocative!

This is a story where the heroes are villains. This dark, seductive and delicious series is as beautiful as it is terrifying.

Astounding as some parts come across as sweet even though they shouldn't. This boxset is alarming, terrifying and truly brilliant as it takes you to an alternate world of assassins and absolute insanity!

A must-read if you love dark (and I mean black as sin) romance with many just as dark steamy scenes.

Brilliant series! Could not put this down once I started and this boxset was great for the no waiting in-between books!
Zhavia a rookie cop from the middle of no-where is returning home, to help her sister. After the death of her husband she has nothing here anymore. Unfortunately for her a chance encounter with a strange man and an intimate moment in the back of a car, leads her down a path she would have never imagined. Spiders, Ravens, Vampires and shifter...oh my!
This is an amazing read!

This is an amazing series that is very well written. Each book is amazing and will take you away from your reality to another one for a few hours. You will love the characters and they are so real that you feel as though you know them personally and you want to be there for them and to see them overcome everything in there way. This collection needs to be read and the great thing is that when you finish book 1 & 2 you have the next one right there. This is a must read series.

A new take on an assassin story like I’ve never seen before. Our heroine was a total badass and able to deal with anything she was dealt. Her men were mysterious, yet she never stopped trying to understand them. The first two books leave us on huge cliffhangers, but that isn’t an issue as its a box-set! This story is a wild ride, definitely pick it up!

I was given an ARC, so I am writing my honest voluntary review.

What an amazing boxset this is! Since this is a set you get to read without the cliffhangers and I love that in this case. Zhavia is who this book is about. In book 1 we get to know her and her background a little and the men at her side. They have issues as well as Zhavia but they make it through. I do like that this book has some povs from the guys as well since it gives you a little more insight. The series isn't finished yet I'm sure and I am excited read more!
