Everyone knows the McKenzie brothers are rugged, fun loving, hard working firefighters who serve the quiet mountain town of Flagstaff, Arizona.
What nobody knows is hiding under the surface of those rugged firefighters--shifters are not mainstream, so locking down their wild side is priority number one.
When Liam and his brothers discover two bodies in the woods, they know something unnatural has invaded their territory. But trying to stay out of the spotlight and track a killer may bring their own secret into the light.
When a beautiful reporter starts digging into the deaths, Liam tries in vain to keep his distance. He's strangely drawn to the one woman in town that he should avoid at all costs.
Jessica, a tenacious young reporter, is looking for her big break and exposing the mysterious deaths for the murders they are might be the catalyst to launch her career. But what is Captain McKenzie hiding behind his permanent scowl—reserves only for her? If she could stop losing herself in his captivating blue eyes, she might get some answers.
While Jessica is determined to find the truth, Liam is challenged with the task of protecting the unsuspecting woman from a vampire who is hell-bent to make her acquaintance.

SPARK by R.K. close is the first book in the Burning Moon paranormal romance series and the first book that I have read by this author. Besides the romance, there is also some suspense built into the story line. It is set in and around Flagstaff, Arizona.
The point of view mainly shifts between a news reporter, Jessica (Jess) Parker, and a firefighter captain, Liam McKenzie. Liam and his two brothers, Seth and Cole, are not your average firefighters. They are also wolf-shifters. When they discover two dead bodies in the forest, Jess starts digging into the story. Who or what killed the campers? Who else is in danger? Will Jess discover their secret?
Liam and Jess are both likeable characters. They are drawn to each other initially, but their attraction builds over time. This is not a case of ‘insta-love’. The secondary characters enhanced the story and the relationships did not seem contrived.
Although this was somewhat predictable, it was still entertaining. Overall, this was a fun read, with action, danger, flirting, romance and more. While the main story line was resolved, there are plenty of threads for additional novels in the series. If you enjoy clean paranormal romance with some suspense, then this may be a series you would enjoy.
I won a digital copy of this book in a Goodreads Giveaway. Thanks go to Goodreads and RK Close for the opportunity to provide an honest review. Opinions are mine alone and are not biased in any way.
SPARK is the first book in the Burning Moon series. They should be read in the order of release. The prequel, ASHES, should be read between books one and two. In it we will read about the brothers’ lives before Flagstaff, some of which was hinted at in this book.
I’ve said it before and I’ll repeat it here: an author’s motivation usually starts with the question, “what if…” In SPARK, the question is, “what if three werewolf cubs were orphaned and nobody knew what they were were? They would be raised human, right? They have no concept of their race, fated mates, natural enemies, etc. This is the life of Liam, Seth, and Cole McKenzie – three sexy firefighters in Flagstaff, Arizona.
SPARK is a clean romance with werewolves, vampires, and a Zoey…. I don’t want to say what she is as finding out is part of the fun. There is romance and suspense along with a good dose of mystery.
I loved the insta-want between Liam and Jessie and the way they both tried to resist it. Trust is a huge factor in their resistance, and I loved the author’s take on the concept. We do all have small secrets that would mean nothing to anyone else. I loved how insta-want became thoughtful pursuit.
I loved the many hints that were left regarding future books in the series and who may be matched up. I loved Jessie’s best friend and coworker, Daisy. She is fiercely loyal and just as fiercely supportive of Jessie. She deserves her own HEA. I’m looking forward to the rest of the series.
Note: While I received this book as a gifted ARC, my opinions are my own and are given freely.
Title: SPARK Series: Burning Moon #1 Category /Genre: Paranormal Romance Recommended for: 18+ due to sexual content Grammar/editing: book received as an unedited ARC / errors excused Received from: R.K. Close (as a gifted copy)
Burning Moon Series: Ashes, Prequel - One of my favorite authors, which pretty much guaranteed a well written, interesting introduction to her new series Burning Moon. The storylines are set in motion; the characters are introduced with future growth; and the emotions run pretty freely with all the events that have occurred. There's intrigue and plenty of suspense. There is violence, but not graphic or gory. Nightmares led to mysteries that the trio of teenaged brothers will have to solve in order to live their lives. 4*
Spark #1 - This story starts a year after Ashes ends. The brothers are living and working in Flagstaff, AZ. Ms. Close didn't fail to please with Spark. After reading Ashes, which sets the history and foundation for the brothers, the storylines continue to weave into a fast paced, intriguing and suspense filled novel that is difficult to put down. The brothers keep growing as they learn and adapt to their nature. The new characters added in Spark are also interesting and believable, and add to the depth of the story. The romance is filled with sexual tension, but they take time to grow into their relationship, which I always appreciate clean stories and females with morals. The author always entertains, adds unexpected twists and is original making even the old worn themes new and interesting. I contacted the author to review her books and never have been disappointed with her work. 5* Burning Moon Series end.
Vampire Files Trilogy: Red Night #1 - A well written, humorous, romantic suspense filled with interesting characters, both funny and menacing. The book starts a little slow, but kicks into gear and is hard to put down. There's a twist or two adding to the excitement and the humor never leaves the pages. I laughed out loud numerous times, the suspense and intrigue are great. The reactions of the female character are realistic and I appreciate her thoughts and morals. Hooked and looking forward to reading Red Moon, the second book. For those who care, there's sexual tension but no sex or vulgar language, just intriguing entertainment. 5*
Red Moon #2 - Another well written, humorous, romantic, fast paced, suspense filled with interesting characters and a twisting plot. As with Red Moon, the excitement never stops. The female character is still realistic and keeps her head and morals. I look forward to reading more of this series. If you love Jim Butcher and Charlaine Harris, you will love RK Close! For those who care, there's sexual tension but no sex or vulgar language, just intriguing entertainment. 5*
Red Dream #3 - Another well written addition to the series. Fast paced and suspense filled, with romance for several characters, RD introduces more interesting characters to round out the series. Plenty of drama, confusion and mishaps, while the female character gathers her resources and receives support in her endeavors from surprising sources. For those who care, there's no sex or vulgar language, just intriguing entertainment. 5* Vampire Files Trilogy end.
Liam MaKenzie and his brothers have a secret, they are wolf shifters living among unsuspecting community they have made their home, only their home is now being threatened by a group of vampires taking up residency. Tenacious new reporter, Jessica Parker is strangely drawn to Liam though is she is determined to get her story, but Jessica’s also turned the head of dangerous rogue vampire and the stakes are high.
This exciting series debut has strong, compelling characters that easily capture the reader’s attention and the romance between Liam and Jessica is charming but quite turbulent as Liam is trying to protect his secret while protecting Jessica without giving in to their sizzling and magnetic attraction. Meanwhile, Jessica is a determined to write the next big story, despite the competition but finds herself discovering way more than she ever wanted to know. Readers can’t help but see both the hero and the heroines points of view and bite their nails in suspense wondering if they will be able to reach a happily ever after.
The plot gives the impression of being a little on the slow side, but it’s really pretty much non-stop suspense and it’s not in boring in any way as it keeps readers on the edge of their seat. Unexpected twists keeps the suspense building as the Liam and his brothers are discovering more and more about their selves and the supernatural world they live in while trying to protect their town from a dangerous rogue vampire. The author has created a very intriguing world with some surprising elements that make the story a bit different from others, of course this doesn’t count the sexy firefighting, wolf shifter brothers that capture the readers’ hearts in this thrilling paranormal romance.
This story was pretty good. I enjoyed the characters and I was very pleased it was clean. I don't even remember much profanity which was refreshing. I enjoyed the story
Spark is the first book in a paranormal romance series. There's wolf - shifters, vampires, and a witch in this book. There are three brothers: Seth, Cole, and Liam who can turn themselves into wolves at night - but by day they are firefighters in a small town. Then comes along a new resident to the town, news reporter Jessica Parker. They have this instant bond that forms between them but it takes some time before they get together. The romance is sweet, I really liked the introduction of the vampire characters and I'm really interested to see how things go for the characters in the next book. I really recommend this book if you: enjoy paranormal romances.

Loving this series! It’s an easy quick read. I actually am giving this one 4.5 ⭐️. Only knocking it a tad because of some editing errors. Over all great little series about fantasy, shapeshifters, and romance. I enjoy following the story of the 3 brothers Liam, Seth, and Cole.
Even though this is the 1st book in the series, I was fortunate enough to read the prequel (Ashes) first as this gave me a valuable insight into the main characters of the book. This is a paranormal book with a bit of a twist in that the main characters have a slight generic anomaly hmm uniqueness that they've only just started to learn about. Which of course begged the question if they are not quite what you'd expect from a human what other little mysteries will be uncovered. This is where the book virtually starts with a crime that could be more than what it may first appear. Is this what I think it is?, you may think or will there be a "rational" solution?? This book definitely fulls under the umbrella of the saying of "the more I learn the more I realise I know nothing" side of fiction or is it fiction??? lol . Its a fun read, the characters are, tangible i.e. they are so well conceived that you believe that they could be real. It has a little bit of danger and edge of your seat kind of moments.
I enjoyed this book once I got into it. This is the first book in a while where I actually liked the heroine. Jessica and Liam fit together though they fought it most of the book. There are so many questions left unanswered. The author did a fantastic job of reeling me into the mystery of the three brothers. It seems amazing they've lasted as long as they have being so clueless. They know close to nothing about shifters and other supernaturals...including themselves. Hopefully more will be discovered in the next book.
There were small errors in the book that I found easy enough to overlook. There was an occasional swear word, but nothing overwhelming. The intimacy was mostly kissing. I found the story enjoyable and mysterious enough to read in on sitting and seek out the next book to find out what happens next.
This was my first time reading a story by RK Close and it well defiantly not be my last. I loved her development of the characters and use of words, they grabbed me from the beginning and I couldn't stop reading! I read this book in one sitting. It's about Laim and Jessica starting a relationship. Laim and his brothers are fire fighters who are wolf shifters, and Jessica is a reporter wanting her story. There's romance, intrigue, suspense and mystery in this fast moving book. It's a must read for anyone loving paranormal and shape shifters, I HIGHLY recommend you read this book! I can't wait to read more in this series.

Spark by R. K. Close is the first book in the Burning Moon series. In this book, three brothers Liam, Cole, and Seth find a couple of dead campers in the forest while out for a run. After they call the sheriff to report what they found. Soon Jessica a reporter follows the story and want to interview them. They try to avoid her because of their secret but she is very persistent. This is an exciting story that starts with a murder mystery, is full of suspense, and ends with a surprising happy ever after ending. I really enjoyed reading this book and recommend it to anyone who likes an entertaining paranormal romance. Spark is a fiery tale of paranormal mysteries and romance.
The cover has a bare chested man and it might lead you to believe this is your standard shifter story with sexy times. It's not. Three brothers who didn't know they were shifters are firemen in Flagstaff Arizona. The oldest is attracted to Jessica Parker, a reporter. All sorts of strange doings start to happen and the book tells the story of Liam, Set and Cole learning that vampires exist and how they save the day and Jessica's life. Of course Liam and Jessica do fall in love and there are some kisses. There are heart in your throat moments when you wonder if things will work out. I'm looking forward to Seth's story.
Three wolf shifter firefighter brothers deal with a vampire, something they thought did not exist, to protect a pretty reporter.
Liam, the oldest, felt a pull towards her, but he couldn't trust their secret with her. Two people had been murdered, their blood removed, and she was bound and determined to find out who had done it. The bartender at their favorite bar warned them, vampires were real, and they were watching one stalk the reporter. The brothers were getting a sudden intro into paranormal life, vampires, witches, and their wolves, all the characters from a tale, or were they?
This book was somewhat enjoyable. It's pretty tame for a shifter story. There are no spicy scenes. Very little foul language. It also isn't very exciting. I felt like there was a backstop we were missing. The 3 brothers are wolf shifters, but they have no knowledge or how they got that way or about the supernatural world.
The characters are likeable and there isn't superficial angst. I was hoping for something like Suzanne Wright's Phoenix Pack series and this is nothing like that. I'm going to try the second one, but I'm not sure I'll finish the series.
A clean shifter romance, with a touch of witches and vampires. Liam and his brothers have been wolf's for 8 years. They don't know why or how, but they try and live normal lives, they are firefighters. Then Liam meets Jessica and is drawn to her. Jessica is a reporter so he knows he has to stay away from her. This story is set in Flagstaff, AZ and was a bit of a different take on the paramormal. I enjoyed this story.

Liam and his brothers were firemen and wolf shifters trying to keep their town safe. They didn’t know much about their ancestry. Then Liam finds his mate but she’s a reporter and he tries to keep his distance but can’t. Vampires come and one starts killing people and also wants Liam’s mate. The brothers have quite the challenge to overcome their insecurities and their problems with the vampires. Fun and exciting story.

I romanticize shifters & this author goes there with me... Or should I say she takes me there. Well edited only a few places trip me up. The story is told from his & her points of view. I don't always like that but the author did a good job of keeping me up with the changes.
This is a romance. It's not animalistic porn. Yay! It's got danger, flirting, teasing, testosterone and heroes & heroines.
I'd like to have a few more humorous moments but this was a solid read.
I love a good paranormal book, especially when they feature more than one supernatural entity.
The twists and turns leave you guessing.
Shifters with an unknown past and future are left with a lonely semblance of life. A reporter and recent deaths around town are just the thing to stir things up.
**reason for 4 stars and not 5, I would love to see how much stronger it could be with a re-edit. Story line and plot is fantastic! It just needs some clean up.
I loved this paranormal romance. The characters are wonderfully written and likable and it appears that some may be in stories to come (we hope)! The storyline is excellent and engages you from start to finish.
I cannot wait for the next in this series.

This book alternates between two points of view, Liam’s and Jessica’s. Giving each character a voice was brilliant! I felt I was gaining a deeper understanding of what each wanted. This story is full of suspense and plot twists and I enjoyed every word. I have been pulled into the Burning Moon series and I anxiously await Seth and Cole’s story!
Great book, story line and characters well written, would recommend to those who like Paranormal Romance, highly reccommend, looking forward to next in series

I received a free copy of this book however all thoughts and opinions are 100% my own, and given completely voluntarily. I loved this! It grabbed me from the first page, kept me til the last and enthralled me in between. Well worth your time to read it.
Wolf shifter firefighters, vampire victims, an attraction to a local news reporter, and the local Burning Moon bar come together in an interesting shifter romance. Great story!
I love when an author can create sexual tension without resorting to actual sex. This is a sweet romance with enough anxiety inducing action to be thoroughly entertaining. Liam and Jessica's relationship is so satisfying in its conception and execution. Can't wait to read the next one.
This is my first time reading a book by this author and I must say I really enjoyed this book. It was well written and full of action. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series. I high recommend this book.
