What could you learn to live without?
Your heart? Your mind? Your soul?

Having lost her purpose in life, the Oncoming Storm leaves behind everything and everyone she has ever known, and takes off across the continent. But there is one thing from which she can’t run. Trouble. When Shade and Elaran track her down, she manages to get them all captured by the star elves.

During their stay in the star elves’ capital, the Oncoming Storm must learn to navigate a world far outside her comfort zone: court life. With no frame of reference to go by, she desperately scrambles to keep up appearances while also trying to find a way out. But nothing is quite as straightforward as it first seems.

When secrets about herself and the world around her are revealed, she is forced to question whether the star elves really are the bad guys. It might actually be someone else entirely. Namely, the Oncoming Storm herself. Can she figure out the truth before she gets her friends killed? Or will she lose herself in the darkness first?

Wowza! My emotions were EVERYWHERE 🤯 I laughed, I legit cried and almost hurled my kindle across the room. I wouldn’t trade a moment of it. Storm, Shade and Elaran (bless his heart) captured my heart in ways they didn’t in the previous books. I saw a whole other side to Elaran that made my heart ache for him. Storm with all that she went through and experienced here, really got me. My heart broke for her on more than one occasion. Shade is just utterly breathtaking 😫😍 I was going to give this one 4 stars for a reason I can’t say but then it did a 180 and now I can give it 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

TITLE: A Storm of Glass and Stars
AUTHOR: Marion Blackwood
RATING: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
GENRE: Ya Fantasy
SERIES: The Oncoming Storm 4/7

pain. this book was so painful wow. But also so very good. And so underrated it should actually be a crime. If you’re looking for something to read, pick up this series. You’d be supporting an indie author and I’m sure you’d love the adventures of these amazing characters.

This book reminds me a lot of the first one, as we are exploring new places and a new species. It was super interesting to learn more about them, and the continent in general. You also learn a lot more about the magic and I’m sure that is going to be further explored in the next book.

Storm was again amazing and I love both Elaran and Shade. The best and most developed characters in the series at this point and I loved every second of following them. They all just deserve so much happiness.

There were twists and turns at every point. My heart got shattered at one point and then I was just so sad for the last portion of the book😭If you are gonna read this series prepare the emotional turmoil✨

OKAY!! YES, YES, YES!! It took me quite some time to process all this! I felt every single emotion possible while reading this book. I laughed, I swooned, I cried and I got angry but most importantly, I was in the edge of my seat the entire time because this book kept me hooked in every single page. And that’s exactly what a good book is supposed to make you feel. Gosh, I love these characters so so much! I love Storm, my favorite badass heroine, I love Shade, my favorite assassin ever and I love their relationship so so much. I could feel the tension and the angst between them throughout the whole book. And THE ENDING!! Gosh, THAT ONE SCENE! I adore them so so much!!

It’s not a surprise that this book is a 5 star read. And it’s not a surprise that this is my favorite out of the series. The character development is EVERYTHING! And the plot twists, the whole storyline is to die for. I don’t really know what else to say because I’m truly speechless by what this book made me feel. Just please, read this series because IT’S WORTH IT ALL! And I guarantee you that you will fall head over heels in love with these characters and with this author’s writing style. Again, I highly recommend this to every fantasy lover! Read it and see for yourself!

Thank you to the author for providing me an early e-arc!

Is it really a surprise anymore that I love these books? The sass and sword fighting, world building and surprises, and the way Blackwood develops her characters keep me coming back for more over and over.

In the previous book, we left off with Shade becoming the War General of Pernula and Storm questioning the source of her Ashaana powers. While the others in her ragtag yet lovable gang might have found their places in this new land across the sea, she’s feeling very left out and without a purpose. So, she sets out to find answers.

Of course, Storm doesn’t get far before trouble finds her. Bloody fights and powers spiraling out of control all come to a head when she, Shade, and Elaran get a surprise visit from the star elves. Brought back to the City of Glass as ‘wayward souls,’ the trio soon learn that all isn’t as it seems in the land of the star elves.

Blackwood branches out yet again in her world building by introducing readers to the capital city of the star elves. Her descriptions of buildings made of glass and the palace in which Storm and Shade roam are so detailed that I could see exactly where all these activities occur. Brilliant ballrooms, sandy beaches, and a cozy library are added to the various settings for the characters, and you feel like you’re there alongside Storm.

But what would an Oncoming Storm book be if it didn’t have knife throwing and sword fighting? Again, these actions are written so well and easy to follow that the fights make sense, and you can feel the danger that Storm does. This time, however, there’s a new twist: Storm’s Storm Caster powers. The ability to command a storm comes from within her, and this ability is exactly why the star elves have their sights on Storm. But as I mentioned, everything is far from the way it seems.

Once again, I’m rooting for team #OncomingShade (Marion, that was a lovely start but I neeeeed more!) in the next installment of whatever comes for these characters. With Storm finally finding her own path, I’m very excited to see what comes next!

FINALLY!!!!!
All I can say is Wow. I think we can all agree that I'm obsessed with these books and this one is my favourite so far. I mean whats not to love !? The action, the sassy attitude that is Storm and now we have....... Romance ! I have been waiting a long ass time to see this and I was not disappointed. I am glad that we got to watch the character development in the previous books and it wasn't a straight forward jump into a relationship kinda thing. I felt everything reading this book, I laughed, cried, jumped for joy but it was no surprised that it was another late night reading this because I was not putting it down ! I cannot wait for the next one and I will definitely keep these characters in my heart for a very long time.

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.

And she does it again! Every time I think the next book can’t possibly get better, she outdoes it. I have loved every single book in this series more than the one before so I am always giddy when I see news of a new one! I received the ARC of this today and I finished the book today. I have always read through her stories quickly but I do believe this is a new record.

In this tale, Marion takes up the emotional impact she throws on her characters and it pays off in such amazing ways. We see Storm in a new environment, coping with the struggle of discovering who she is—truly—and grapple with the questions of love, guilt and trauma. Each topic is expertly woven into the plot on a way that feels organic, real and realistic.

The new cultures she continues to introduce us to never fail to intrigue and this one is no exception. There is a distinct look, feel and design to each one while also including characters that are unique amongst their people. I look forward to each new location!

The twists continue to impress. As always, I don’t see them coming but when they arrive, I look back over the story and go “aha!” The exact kind of reaction that a truly well done story will create.

There was not as much time spent on some characters as I would have liked but that is hardly a complaint. The characters with the most limelight deserve it and use their time well. I just enjoyed these folk so much that I wish I had more opportunity to spend with them.

The relationships Storm shares with her companions becomes immensely important and powerful in these pages and I enjoyed every second of it! I can’t wait to see what awaits the Oncoming Storm in the future!

I think no one is surprised that I gave this book 5 stars. I love this series so much and each book is better than the one before. The story is still as interesting, the characters are so well developed and keep getting better and better, the relationship are even better in this book even though I missed some of my favorite characters. And we finally had something in this book I was waiting for a long long long time : ROMANCE! THIS MADE ME SO HAPPY YOU GUYS CAN’T UNDERSTAND! The romance took its time and it did n o t disappoint. I love the main character even more in this book and I really liked this new side of her. I love her journey in this book and how strong she is now. Each book has something new to give to this series and I can’t wait how it will be concluded in the last book (I’M SO EXCITED!!) This book made me so happy while reading it, I’m so thankful the author kindly send it to me and accepted me in her e-arc team!

What a ride this book is!! The feels! I'm not ashamed to admit that my heart broke into a million tiny pieces while reading this book, only to be glued right back together again before the end.

Storm is a woman on a mission (again!), this time she's on the road looking for other Storm casters like herself, yo figure out who she really is and perhaps where she came from.
Of course, in typical Storm fashion, things don't go exactly according to plan.
The elusive Star Elves join the main cast for this episode of The Oncoming Storm, beautiful, graceful, white and perhaps not exactly as they would appear to be. They're on a self proclaimed mission to save the world from itself, having already outlawed the use of pistols in all of their conquered states, and Storm, Shade and Elaran are just next in a line of people they want to convince.
Storm finds herself put through an enormous amount of heartache as well as laughter and love during this book, which made me both cry and giggle alternately.

A Storm of Glass and Stars is, dare I say, even better than the previous episode! Marion has done it yet again, given us all the excitement, thrills and spills we've come to expect from reading about the sassy, smart-mouthed thief we know and love. I'm absolutely dying to read the next book already!

10 hours ago I started this book, and now I've finished it in three sittings. A book that is this hard to put down is really good!

I'm not that surprised of what was happening in this book, cause I saw it coming. But, I was still insecure at times and felt everything. The excruciating pain, oh my. I definitely need some sleep to give my heart a break before continuing on this mesmerizing adventure.

I love the main characters even more, especially Shade ❤️

I cannot get enough of this series. Diving into the fourth instalment of the Oncoming Storm series we follow Storm in her search for the Storm Casters or also known as Ashaana, but of course it being Storm she finds herself in trouble.

My heart went out for Storm as she struggles with her sense of identity. In this book we really get to dive into Storms most inner thoughts and the idea of finding what she wants - the main theme to this book.

Trouble comes in the form of the elusive Star Elves and we finally discover who they are and what their plans are! While we had some familiar faces (Shade and Elaran!) we are introduced to whole new cast of characters and elves that will have you gripping the edge of the book. Although I missed my favourite elves and Liam and the characters I grew to love in the third book I was quickly spell-struck by the new characters and couldn’t get enough of them!

I could not put this book down and at times I was screaming at the book as if so could warn Storm, Shade and Elaran. I will admit that I even shared some tears at one point.

5 massive stars for this book! If you haven’t tried this series yet you are missing out! Storm and Shade will forever be in my heart now and I will eagerly await the fifth book!

I loved every moment of this book! It was such an interesting story and I was so happy to learn more about these Star Elves and Storm Casters! I was also SCREAMING that my boy Shade finally made a move on my girl Storm!! I cannot believe i have to wait now for the next one!

Storm is lost. She is uncertain of her purpose and her place. To find herself, she starts a journey that takes many twists and turns and forces her to face her inner demons and decide an answer to that fated question, "What do I want?"

Blackwood does it again, pushing Storm to the edge. The story was enthralling, heartbreaking, and at time infuriating. But all in the best ways possible. You'll lose yourself as Storm chases her identity. I seriously could not put this book down! It practically turns the pages for you.

If you've followed Storm on her journey so far, A Storm of Glass and Stars is a must read!

Wow, such a great book!

In this book Storm goes on a self discovery journey that is filled with bloodshed, enemies, captivity, scheming, more scheming, royalty, and loss. Just when you think you know what’s going to happen it gets flipped on it’s head and your back to square one trying to figure out what Storm has up her sleeve. I can’t say enough about this series! If your reading this review you know by now that Storms story only continues to grow and evolve, so what are you waiting for, get this book!

This is by far my fave series and this book is my fave out of all of them. The struggles that Storm goes through trying to find who she is and where her place in the world is, it's something everyone can relate to. The message to just be who you are is so powerful.
My fave line is " I am smoke and steel and lightning. I cannot be broken "
I cannot wait to see what storm gets up to next

I am so honoured to have read the ARC for this!!!
I am such a fan of this series.
This book takes the reader on a roller coaster with Storm, Shade and Elaran.

Even though this book feels a bit of filler to the bigger story, I loved revisiting the worlds, characters and picking out the little bits and hints that I think will come into play in future books!

Marion creates an ever immersive world, with believable characters, motives and twists and turns.

I cannot wait for the next instalment of Storms adventures!

(my poor heart needs to recover)

Edit 03/12/2020
Its been a good couple of weeks since finishing this book, and I think it might be my favourite out of the series so far.

The struggles Storm had to face was so different to what she is use to, the emotional turmoil. She was so lost and lonely, trying to find her place in the world. My heart was bleeding for her throughout most of the book. I dont want to delve to much into spoilers but lets just say the darkness and her knives wasnt much help for most of the book.

On a lighter side

Cant wait for the next book! On to the mountains we go!

Storm
Oh, she's leaving. Is she going to be away from Shade for a long time? My heart...

She's not sure what to make of herself now that he no longer needs to look after Liam. Now, in this new place, this solitude, she's self medicating with alcohol. Blocking it all out.

She let's a brute beat her up. She says she could have beat him if she wanted to. 'How do I explain that the goal hadn't been to win. It had been to feel something. Anything... I had wanted a pain I could deal with instead of the horrible internal one I otherwise felt... What was I supposed to do now?'.

I'm so happy Eleran and Shade showed up to find her.

They were captured and staged a fake fight that helped them escape, but I love that I thought it was a real fight. I didn't know until afterward.

I hope the Queen is a little crazy. That would be fun.

Coincidental that the Queen takes in wayward souls to help them find their purpose.

'And I had never, in my whole life, been a person who needed someone else to defend me. I was the one other people needed protection from.'

They only applied her with dresses, I get it, but I'm sure Shade or Elaran were given an extra pair of pants, right?

I don't believe that Elaran is dead... I just don't.

She's hallucinating the people she killed... she's dreaming. She has to be... or it's all a trick to convince her to get rid of her darkness. and maybe in her grief she's genuinely hallucinating.

The development of this story is just so good. In her grief and sorrow, Niadhir, her captor basically, is starting to appeal to her. Not him, but his message about getting rid of the darkness. Serious stalkholme syndrome. Why didn't they try harder to leave? Yes, they tried to escape, but did they ever just ask? Maybe they did and I didn't need to see it. Why isn't she simply asking to leave now? Well, she can't leave Shade, I know that for sure.

Anyway, I can't believe how good this story is. It's so real to me. It's so well done. Not a word or an idea out of place. This is outrageously rare. I'm so invested in this story and I love these characters. She's going through such a human experience.

It's the real internal struggle of being a murderer. (Not that I would know). But her past choices are torturing her. She may have shrugged past in when it happened or justified it in some way but now it's all very real to her and she's experiencing real pain and sorrow over it. She damaged herself and the pain is presenting itself to her.

Of course!!! They didn't want to heal her. They wanted her to give up her magic for their own devices. With thr right amount of magic, they van take pain away from people. No they can't! It's a sham!

'We don't force it on anyone'... no you just hold them captive until they agree...

And she believes it... that they are good... girl... you're traumatized, I know... don't be fooled...

Or is she tricking me? Did she secretly slide a letter to Liam to come rescue her? Instead of to say that everything was okay?

Why isn't she questioning how the spell works? Is it going to kill her? Is it going to take her pain right away? Or just contribute to the spell that won't be strong enough yet in her lifetime?

Yes!! Girl!! Threaten that crazy Queen! "Getting rid of pain isn't the answer... pain and grief are a part of life. It's how you know it's real."

He's alive!! And he's not in a coma!!! Tears tears tears...

Niahdir...it was all a scheme... she was drugged into hallucinations... emotionally manipulated....

Finally together in the last 3 pages and I LOVE them... they are so right for each other... they really understand each other... wow. Love them. Don't be away from him.

“And besides, when we get back to Pernula, I’m leaving again. I finally know where the Storm Casters are and I have to go find them.” His intense black eyes searched my face. “Are you coming back?” “Do you want me to?” “Yeah.” “Good.” A smirk spread across my lips. “I was always planning on coming back. I just wanted to hear you say it.”

“And when I get back,” I said at last, “I’m sure you will have married some strategically important daughter.” Shade nodded next to me. “Yeah, I probably will. And you will have fallen for some powerful Storm Caster who can teach you everything you want to know.” I tipped my head to the side. “Probably.” “But then again, maybe we won’t have.”

5. Easy. easy 5.

Gosh, ranking:

Book 1 for the introduction to her and her world. Still tops.

Book 4 for the star elves, the emotional manipulation, and her and Shade, finally!

Book 3 for just an enjoyable story. The plot to become general.

Book 2 slightly lower because her adventures around her own city were slightly less interesting than the other locations

✨🌀A Storm of Glass and Stars - Oncoming Storm book #4 - Review🌀✨

Couple: Storm and Shade

Author: Marion Blackwood

Tropes: frenemy to lover, PNR, epic quests, fantasy romance, guild romance, spy-thieves-assassins

Review: This book should be considered the story of 'How Storm Finds Herself'. At the beginning of this book I felt like Storm's attitude was taking a downward spiral and we could easily see how bad it could have gotten if it had been allowed to progress. I found it ironic how she always assumes she is a 'villain' in her mind but even at her low points she still try to help people in her own way (often violently). I was happy about who attempted to rescue her from herself though and was laughing to myself when I read the scenes where her friends came for her and she attacked them with her 'darkness'.

The main arc in this book is the introduction of the Star Elves and the tyrant Queen. This book delves into more of Storm's magic and we finally learn exactly what she is and why she has the powers she does. Storm's story of self continues while they are prisoners in the Star Elves castle and bring forced to act according to their decorums. For me, book 4 was really the turning point for Storm and her emotions and feelings for Shade. We start to see both of them show attraction and jealousy while with the Star Elves (yay) and we also start to realize how close they truly allowed themselves to attach to one another.

A major theme in Storm's character development in book 4 is her sense of self and self worth. We see her grow in this book a lot and overcome her doubts and self-loathing. We also see her start to battle her demons and admit her feelings to Shade, if only to herself. My favorite parts in this book were finally getting to see how awesome she is at planning and scheming by herself when she attempts to break out and rescue her friends.

🌀✨SPOILER✨🌀

✨This book gives us a glimpse into how Shade and Storm explore their attraction. We finally get to see some heat with them even if it breaks our hearts soon after.

Rating: 8/10, this was the hardest one to read and hurt my heart ):

I am officially a superfan of this series and The Oncoming Storm (if I already haven't mentioned it before lol). What a character! If there is a more entertaining female thief/rogue to follow through a tale, I have yet to discover her.

In this 4th novel in the series, we begin a few months after the Pernula election. And for maybe the first time, we see Storm at a loss. What is her place in this new world? All of her friends have no problem finding occupation or new companions and purpose, yet she is truly lost. And cue a heartbreaking dark period of soul searching, as Storm sets off on her own . . . only to find more trouble, of course.

If you've read the series this far, you'll be aware of a new threat on the horizon -- The Star Elves. And that is where Storm, Shade, and Elaran end up next. But the skilled, powerful enemy taking over the continent does not quite match the legend or the public's fearful warnings. They are gracious, welcoming, and live in a lovely city of glass. But not all is what it seems, and the trio finds themselves in danger like never before. Brace yourselves for an exciting, dramatic, and emotional ride!

Storm is a wonderful character, surrounded by many others, but once again she shines when she is at her darkest. We've all been there before, despite the good parts of our life or recent successes, sometimes we still feel lost and unsure. What is our purpose, what is our future? And for Storm, these questions are impossible at times because she still has yet to know about her past and where she came from. I only hope she continues to get stronger with each book and finds a measure of peace.

Again, I cannot recommend this series enough to dark fantasy fans. There is so much that happens in this world, and Storm is the perfect guide. Check it out and then you can wait like me, biting my fingernails, until Book 5 is here!

TLDR - I cannot contain my excitement over this book and Storm -

Okay so old news I know but I’m fricken obsessed with Storm. She’s witty and relatable and just feels like my soul sister (cheesy right?) I have still not grown tired of her and at this point don’t think I will

The plot in this book felt very different from the others but I loved all the character drama with it. It wasn’t amazingly unpredictable or anything like that but I don’t crave that in books so I don’t mind. Plus I like feeling smart by guessing it.

I loved seeing some characters other sides (look at you Elaran) and the banter between Shade and Storm was absolutely on point this book. I loved hating specific characters too, it’s nice to just be annoyed at a character every now and then.

Im super nervous for the next book because of how this one ended but also I’m on the edge of my seat because I’m super excited.

I don’t know why it took my 4 books to realise this but I’m so fricken obsessed with this series it has to be a favourite for sure.

I was super excited to get this one and start it. I love Storm as a character and couldn't wait to see where this one went since we left off last time with them taking over Pernula. This one started out interesting though since Storm decided that she wanted to go explore on her own which ends up getting her in trouble like usual. By trouble I mean her, Shade and Elaran end up being taken by the star elves. I love the star elf aesthetic though all glass, white, having extravagant balls that kind of thing. Super on point. Totally not Storms thing this is where it really got good I would definitely say this one is a plot twist kind of thing going on. It really surprised me I won't say exactly what happens so you can read to find out.

This book broke my heart into a million pieces... For Storm and the other characters, for a great variety of reasons. It made me sob, and be happy and angry and a whole slew of other emotions. I felt annoyed by characters, cheated by them, had to change my opinion on a few... What a roller coaster.

I am usually much more eloquent in my reviews than this... It's just that I've only recently finished and this story is still wrecking a havoc within me. I'm sad and happy at the same time. It was a fantastic adventure, it asked a lot of deep questions, it pushed Storm to the edge of her strength and her whole being...

I'm excited for the next adventure, even if this one left me heart raw and hurting...

Another fantastic read in the Oncoming Storm series!

Least favorite so far in the series

It felt like this book was way too long for the few things that happened. I loved everything in the last couple chapters, but the mundane daily life of boring people was extremely boring. While there were things we needed to know as a reader, it was clear from the moment they arrived at the Star Elves city/castle that there was a manipulation plot, but it dragged on with so much filler that I nearly stopped reading it several times. It also lacked interaction from the characters that have built the series in the first 3 books. I hope this is only a blip in a great series since I have loved all of the others I have read by this author.

As usual Marion has blown me away, from the first book about storms journey to the fourth every character has grown. The plot has thrown me curve balls and I never saw coming but I can honestly say it only gets better with each book 😨

This series is perfect for fans of Throne of Glass, you’ll fall in love with the sassy assassin instantly and of course Shade, who could forget that heart throb 😭

I can’t wait for the next book to see where Storm takes us but trusting Marion I’m sure it’ll be full of surprises 🤩

Such a good, but emotional book

In this book Storm is adrift. Everyone has found their place, but she is still lost. She sets put to find her people, and gets captured by elves. She is not alone, because Shade and Helaran had set out to find her, after reports of trouble. They are manipulated, almost from the the moment they arrive. I'm looking forward to the next book and what happens with both Shade and Helaran. This book will make you smile, but it will also make you sad.
Lots of twists with this one.

Very good
This one really delved more into the Psyche of our FMC, really delt with a lot of issues of inadequacy, purpose and connection. I really liked that for our main gal.
Some development for the side characters as well, building on things revealed in the previous book.
I am racing through this series, and while it isn't mindblowing or going to rate in my top tier forever kind of series- its very very fun and enjoyable.
Some mini twists in this one, that were kind of predictable, but good all the same
will be racing on to book 5

I was blessed to be given an ARC copy of this book. Keep in mind, reading my thoughts down below may contain spoilers relating to this being several books down the line.

This time around, Storm is, quite frankly, having an existential crisis. Following the Pernulan election, and Shade's appointment as General, as well as our precious baby Liam finding his happy place, she's feeling lost. With nothing else to do, she heads off in search of the origin of her stormy powers. And because this is Storm, and she can't not step straight into a shitstorm (the pun is most definitely intended), the attention of the Star Elves are well and truly focused on her. From here, we find our main focus.

Marion's writing is something I find incredibly easy to absorb. The internal monologues always add a nice touch, and make Storm feel more personable. The intricacies of each books storyline is beautifully woven together, and keep you wanting to move onto the next. She has a wonderful balance of underworld goodness mixed in with some more magical elements. And I am also forever in love with Shade. Without spoiling anything, the ending between Storm and Shade left me interested to see where things go between the two after they drew attention to a particular plotline.

And now, I need to find out what the heck happens in the future to all my babies. Less than 2 months to go!

She does it again!!

I LOVE this book!! It’s an amazing example of how the character can face adversity and question who she is but still triumph in the end! There’s a deeper message that I really appreciate the author delving into, this isn’t just a shallow face value story. These kind of books are few and far between in this day and age, a big kudos to the author for a great job!! The only thing I don’t like is that I have to wait to read the next one! ;)
