Group violence is a complex subject. Avoidance is the best practice, but that’s difficult to do if you can’t recognize the danger. If you have to engage, survival is the goal. The focus then shifts to defending your actions. This book serves as an invaluable resource for these topics. Often, the authorities frown on the level of force you use to stay out of the hospital or morgue. This book helps you navigate the pitfalls and challenges of the aftermath of a defensive action. This is not a “how to fight’ or a 'shut up and lawyer up' book. If you claim self-defense you have to make a statement—and that may be the last time you get to speak. Learn the dangers of a group attack, do your best to avoid such situations, survive the attack, and be able to explain why what you did wasn't excessive force, but justifiable self-defense.
This book has been an eye opener. I started my career as a Corrections Officer with almost no legitimate training. I then became a Security Officer after a 3 day course. Reading this book I look back all the mistakes I made and warning signs I missed. I’m lucky to not be injured or dead. I wish I’d had this book early in my career. It’s one I will keep and re-read to allow the lessons to sink in. It is available in e-book only, because of the extensive video links. But those links are invaluable as they illustrate the principals MacYoung is explaining with real world examples. This book has likely saved lives. I give it my highest recommendation
