Marie Rydzynski was born on March 28 in West Germany to Polish parents. She moved to America at the age of four. For an entire year, Marie and her family explored the eastern half of the country before finally settling in New York.
Marie swears she was born writing, "which must have made the delivery especially hard for my mother." From an early age, Marie's parents would find her watching television or tucked away in some private place, writing at a furious pace. "Initially, I began writing myself into my favourite shows. I was a detective on '77 Sunset Strip,' the missing Cartwright sibling they never talked about on 'Bonanza' and the 'Girl from U.N.C.L.E.' before there was a 'Girl from U.N.C.L.E.,' not to mention an active participant in the serialized stories of 'The Mickey Mouse Club.'" Marie began to write her first romance novel when she was 11 years old, although she claims that, at the time, she didn't even realize it was a romance! She scribbled off and on, while dreaming of a career as an actress.
Marie was only 14 when she first laid eyes on the man she would marry, truly her first love, Charles Ferrarella. During her days at Queens College, New York, acting started to lose its glamour as Marie spent more and more time writing. After receiving her English degree, specialising in Shakespearean comedy, Marie and her family moved to Southern California, where she still resides today.
After an interminable seven weeks apart, Charles decided he couldn't live without her and came out to California to marry his childhood sweetheart. Ever practical, Marie was married in a wash-and-wear wedding dress that she sewed herself, appliqués and all. "'Be prepared' has always been my motto,"the author jokes. This motto has been stretched considerably by her two children, Nikky and Jessi, "but basically, it still applies," she says.
In November of 1981, she sold her first novel for Harlequin. Marie, who now has written over 150 novels, has one goal: to entertain, to make people laugh and feel good. "That's what makes me happy," she confesses. "That, and a really good romantic evening with my husband." She's keeping her fingers crossed that her reader's enjoy reading her books as much as she enjoyed writing them.
Good book. Brady is the quintessential bachelor until his best friend and his wife die in a motorcycle crash, leaving Brady guardian of their four-year-old twins. The story opens a few months later with Brady at the end of his rope. The two boys are wild and have worn out their welcome with all of the family caregivers. Even Brady's mom tells him she can't take anymore. Brady gives up his job and moves from New York to Texas, where he has more family willing to help and the offer of employment at the new Hotel Fortune. His life doesn't get any easier, as his boys drive nannies away at an alarming rate. Even the owner of the preschool suggests he needs help and gives him a number to call.
Harper meets Brady when she stops at his cousin's restaurant looking for work. She lost her job as a nanny when the man of the house made unwelcome advances, but his wife blamed it on Harper. The wife has bad-mouthed Harper to her friends, making it difficult to find another position. The idle conversation with Brady doesn't go well, thanks to his misinterpretation of what the preschool owner said to him. It becomes even more awkward when the number he finally calls belongs to Harper. The ensuing conversation was pretty funny until they straightened out the confusion. Brady's relief that she was a nanny was overwhelming.
Harper's connection with Toby and Tyler was immediate. I loved seeing them fall in love with her and her with them. There were many sweet scenes of them together, and also with Brady. It was clear they were well on their way to feeling like a family.
The relationship between Brady and Harper was a cautious one. Sparks flew between them from the start, but Harper is extremely wary of trusting him. Brady doesn't want to lose the perfect nanny, so he tries to bury his feelings. I liked seeing Harper grow to trust Brady. It's easy to see them falling for each other and how close they come to admitting it. Then an unexpected ambush by her former employer sends Harper running. But a call from one of the boys telling her that they are at the hospital and Brady needs her stops her in her tracks. I loved the hospital scene and Brady's unwavering belief in her. The ending is sweet, and I loved the surprise the boys gave Harper.
There is a brief mention of the ongoing investigation into the balcony collapse from the first book. Brady does a little investigating.
Another in the Fortunes of Texas: The Hotel Fortune series, in which Brady Fortune becomes guardian to a pair of rambunctious 4 year old twins. He's out of his depth handling children, so he desperately hires a nanny--actually, lots of them, but most don't last the weekend--after he moves to Rambling Rose, after giving up managing his job and the boys in his home in New York.
Harper Radcliffe is a nanny from heaven, but how she ends up working for him covers a secret she's intent on keeping to herself.
The boys quickly fall in love with her, as does Brady, but Harper has no intention of following her heart when it reminds her too much of what her former boss tried with her. But when his soon-to-be-ex-wife spills the beans at an Easter gathering the hotel, Harper has no choice. She has to leave, only to receive a phone call from one of the boys that they are at the hospital and Brady needs her. What can she do but check to see what horrible thing must have happened?
What occurs thereafter makes for a fitting end to a great little tale.
This ready-made family will steal your heart! With the third book in The Fortunes of Texas: The Hotel Fortune series Marie Ferrarella delights her readers with Brady Fortune's story and it does not disappoint. There wasn't a huge amount of relationship development in AN UNEXPECTED FATHER, but the overall warmth of the story and the adorable twin aspect carried the story well. I really enjoyed Brady and Harper and look forward to more from the Fortunes as the series continues.
Brady was quick to catch my heart because of the instant father situation he finds himself in and the sincerity in which he forges all in.
Harper and her connection with the twins was adorable, and watching her fall head over heals for Brady was heartwarming.
I highly recommend this book as well as the entire series to anyone who enjoys a fast paced series based on various members of the same family finding their happily ever afters as a bit of mystery hangs in the background as the storyline continues.
Brady liked his life as a bachelor so when he got custody of twin boys, his life changed dramaticaly. He hired a nanny, then another, then another; he went through them like water. The boys were terrors so none of the nannies would stay. He finally found Harper who had a way with the boys that none of the other nannies did. She loved them and began to have feelings for Brady, too. But after a bad situation with a former boss, she was not letting her feelings show. The twins were crazy about Harper as was Brady, but he kept that to himself.
I loved how much Brady wanted to give the boys a good life even though he didn't have experience with children. Harper was great at her job! That showed when she got the boys to settle down and not be so mischievous. The twins were not easy to like in the beginning but turned out to be regular kids as the group became closer.
How much work can twin four year olds be? Well, for Brady Fortune, guardian to the twins after his friends died in a crash, way too much. Nannys have come and gone, and his mother has even thrown up her hands in frustration. The local preschool in Rambling Rose is even leery. But they give him the name of Harper Radcliffe, and after a confusing first meeting, she seems to have the twins eating out of her hand. But it's the nanny and the boss story, so it will work out with a little help from the twins.
Brady Fortune became an instant family with the addition of twin boys from his friends who died in an accident. Toby and Tyler are very energetic 4-year-olds. Brady moved to Rambling Rose, Texas to be around family that could help him with Toby and Tim. It took him awhile to find the right nanny for the twin terrors. Harper Radcliffe knew just how to talk and interact with Toby and Tyler. Harper also got Brady to realize over time that she would be perfect full-time wife. I enjoyed reading this book.
For being a Harlequin, the one and only love scene was terrible and wasn't until the last chapter. That said, however, the storyline while being somewhat predictable was pretty good. I even cried a couple of times. It introduced a few things that were not really brought to fruition - which I'm guessing is for another book? Overall, don't regret the read, but wasn't particularly special either.

This was a great book. I love the small town Fortune stories. This was unexpected. I loved the characters and the challenges they faced. Didnt feel rushed. Love this author's voice.
This is Brady Fortune's story and how he went from a dashing playboy to the guardian of twins that are two rambunctious four year old boys. Lots of laughs and love here.
