Samson Maddox

Samson Maddox’s life was straight out of a fairy tale. He was good-looking, popular, and destined for the NFL. His family had money and he had a brother he’d do anything for. His friends were loyal and there was never a shortage of girls willing to keep him entertained. So, why was the high school senior with the seemingly perfect life such a brooding jackass? Well, just because it looks like you have everything that doesn’t necessarily mean that you do.

Mackenzie Harden

Mackenzie Harden’s life was straight out of a nightmare. Known as the beautiful girl with the purple eyes, everyone thought she had it made with her popularity and football star boyfriend. However, her life was anything but perfect. With a deadbeat dad and a single hard-working mother, Mackenzie did her best to stay out of trouble and make her mother proud. So, when her shameful secret comes out, tough choices need to be made, and Mackenzie needs to be strong enough to make them.

With a new start on the horizon, Mackenzie learns the hard way that the past is never really in the past. And she has to find the courage to do the right thing.

With everything Samson has ever wanted finally within his grasp, he’ll stop at nothing to get what he wants. And he’ll destroy anyone who dares to threaten that.

Mackenzie wasn’t looking to be save, but Samson was going to do it anyway.

There's not much to add to my bio, I'm pretty boring...LOL. My favorite thing is to read and, last year, I decided to trade in some of those reading hours and try my hand at writing. The experience has been one of the best things I could have ever embarked upon. It's turned into a hobby that is fun and thoroughly enjoyable. When I'm not reading or writing, I'm spending time with my family or friends.

I’m not a huge fan when the hero just says it very casually to the heroine that after he saw the heroine have a boyfriend when she supposed to be him because he felt a love in first sight for her. He said that he f*cked many girls to get her out of his head cause he thinks that the right way to do it because at the time she have a boyfriend that in the end she was not really that into him or even in love with him....

“I SPENT THE FOLLOWING WEEK F*CKING ANY GIRL THAT WAS GAME IN AN ATTEMPTED TO TRY TO GET YOU OUT OF MY MIND. IT DIDN’T WORK, NOTHING F*CKING WORKED. NOTHING AND NO ONE CONSUMED MY MIND THE WAY YOU DID.”

BUT HE DID SAID THAT HE “I HAVEN’T F*CKED A GIRL SINCE THE LAST GIRL I USED TO TRY TO GET MACKENZIE OUT OF MY SYSTEM.”

But it really bugs me out because he said he was obsessed with her since the first glance but why even do such thing? For me thats too low and not right thing to do though... I have better heroes that really wait for the heroine and just grab her and ask her out immediately after he knows she’s the one😊

‼️‼️‼️NO CHEATING AND NO SEPARATION. A DRAMA WITH OW BUT ONLY ONE SCENE AND NOT TOO ANNOYING EITHER. AND DRAMA WITH OM, THE SCENES WAS PRETTY CRAZY because seems like her ex was not really over her and was a bit crazy. THE HEROINE IS A VIRGIN....
HOT SMUT SCENES
The hero is a football player in high school
High school safe romantic hot love story
THE HERO IS OTT POSSESSIVE ALPHA MALE
Many jealous scenes from the hero
THE HEROINE HAVE PURPLE EYES!!!!!
HAPPY ENDING, they go to college together and even in the extended epilogue of the book series both got married and it was pretty romantic 🥺

I want longer epilogue tho...

I miss this author old series like the enemy series...
where the heroine is a badass woman who can take anyone and knows how to defend herself and the hero just really obsessed with her really in a right way, a very long time epilogue, not too much of talking about the past sex life or even past partners. I hated when the hero do that tho... especially when the hero is a possessive alpha male, shouldn’t he just focus on the heroine instead and not thinking about his past or even talks about it? It always the heroine is a virgin and the hero is not. Only one time i read that the hero from this author is a virgin and other than that, nope... also the heroes and the heroines on this new books from this author idk somehow I don’t feel too much of their love connection you know... it doesn’t feel the same way like it used to especially with this annoying unnecessary scenes happening... It just made me a bit sad about it because i really do love the enemy series from this author so much :(

New keeper!!! 5 stars! The H a bit Travis Maddox…

I am on my cell so this is quick.

This has,
- YA romance they’re seniors
- OTT obsessed football QB H. He’s popular and rich.
- stunningly beautiful h with violet eyes. She’s known for her beauty, poor lives with mom.
- instant love at first sight for him.
- H celibate for a year just from seeing her. He does screw around with everything to get her out of his head for 2 weeks, but that failed, so he doesn’t sleep with ow after. He saw the h, didn’t even meet her when he was fucking around with ow, and she had a bf at the time. The H doesn’t poach.
- her ex bf beat her up, she’s a strong, battered female. I absolutely loved this h
- he was a real caveman in his love for her.
- hot dirty talk, descriptive hot love scenes.

Don’t read this book if you don’t believe in insta love, H who will remain faithful til the day he dies because he’s still in high school. I am a romantic so I believed in their love.

Only con , books too short! 220 pages

Safe no cheating.

It was a cute story but that was pretty much it. The whole book played out during not even a week and a lot of things happens during that short time.

I kinda liked Samson.. kinda liked Mackenzie.. but she started school and he went crazy because she is the love of his life just like that?
And they became a couple because Samson said so? And Mackenzie didn’t have any say in it? It was also the first time they even met, and tada your have a boyfriend!
That irritated the f out of me…
Also they had never spoke a word to each other, not even said hi? Sure they actually met a year before but they only stood there and looked at each other…?! Anyway, it was a quick read and I enjoyed some parts of it and I’m going to read the other book. 😘

One character I actually was interested in was Charlie, she seems like a firecracker 😎 can’t wait for her and Raidens story.

Yet another surprisingly decent book. A book that I didn’t think I was gonna like, but I did. Was it a masterpiece? no.
But it was decent enough to enjoy. It had a lot of high school drama, but it was quick and short and into the point which I did like. It didn’t need a tremendous amount of editing and it didn’t have a whole lot of filler. I also really felt like the author knows how to write from the male perspective, even though she’s a female herself And that’s not something that happens a lot nowadays. I feel like a lot of authors that are female can’t really write proper MMC’s. They always come across as a man that was definitely written by a woman how the woman wish the man was and it always kind of makes them pussies. But this author didn’t do that.
One of the only things that was disappointing was that there was no epilogue for the main characters. I really wanted to know how they were doing in the future and if they were still together.

This has been sitting on my kindle for a while and I'm glad that I picked it up! I blew through this in an afternoon and loved it. If you can just forget that this takes place over the span of a week, then you might enjoy this. They saw each other O N C E like a year before and meet again when the heroine changes schools and immediately get together.

I loved Samson. If you read my reviews frequently then you know he's definitely an MMC that I would like. He was protective, possessive, and would do anything for Mackenzie. Yeah, their relationship happened like lighting, but that's what kept me flipping the pages.

There are trigger warnings for physical abuse here, so keep that in mind if you pick this up.

All in all, this was over the top but I loved the couple and couldn't stop reading.

Samson

It was a good H S story. Great characters. Love the way Ms. Clayton always writes her male roles as very alpha. Now my biggest complaint and this seems to be in all the books I've read so far. The 3 sentence repeat where the first two or three words are the same. If you have read her books you what I'm referring too. I'm not going to continue this series.

This is the first book I’ve read by ME Clayton that didn’t have a bully or enemies to lovers aspect, I think. Those are my go to tropes, dark romance is my preferred genre. I love, love, love the OTT j/p alpha heroes and this one has that in spades.

Samson has been obsessed with Mackenzie since he first saw her at a football game the year prior. She was taken though. Girlfriend to the rival team’s quarterback.

Mackenzie comes to Eastwood high to escape her abuse ex boyfriend. She’s quickly pulled into Samson’s world and on his arm. Trouble follows her to Eastwood though when her ex decides he’s not done with her.

Samson is delightfully possessive and protective of Mackenzie. She’s a tiny bit of a Mary Sue, but I like that - especially in this type of story. It’s novella length and instalove but there’s a lot of depth here, especially with all the OTT j/p goodness.

Story 5/5, Spice 3/5, Angst 1/5. This is pretty low angst which I love. Medium burn, they hook up around 60%. The spicy scenes aren’t super spicy but they are hot and satisfying. No condoms, virgin h, no manwhore. No separation or silly fights between couple. No cheating, no cliffhanger and HEA. Epilogue sets up next story for Amelia and Ford.

*safety squad aside - there is no cheating here between H/h. Heroine tells us she learned after separation g from her ex, Brayden - that he had been cheating on her during their relationship. Samson apparently has sex with multiple girls after meeting Mackenzie for the first time but since she was in a relationship he knew he couldn’t have her. So they had met but, at that point there was no chance of anything between them. I don’t consider this cheating personally but I realize some readers want zero interaction between H and OW after meeting heroine so now you know if that’s a problem for you.

It was okay.

The relationship was not as deep or as intense as Clayton’s other series’, The Enemy duet, The Enemies Series, or my favorite The Buchanan’s series. This couple lacked growing together. They literally got together on day one with no fight between them and were basically married by day three. Figuratively of course.

Still it was an okay read. I love Clayton’s writing even if I don’t agree with her interpretation of some things. After reading the foreword though I can give lots of forgiveness to grammatical errors as I want to support a completely independent writer. I envy them there talent and I can only imagine how hard it is to produce a quality product while also doing the marketing and sales on your own as well.

So kudos to Ms. Clayton! Please keep up the great work your doing. I definitely like her writing style but like anyone I’m not going to love every thing.

This book may have fell short on the extreme romance that I like Clayton’s works for but I will read the rest of the books and see how they go. She is worth my time and money. Enjoy.

TW: Mentions of physical abuse

Fairly good start to a series. I love it when authors put together novella series like this. Sometimes I want to be able to just finish a story in a short amount of time. This entire series is perfect for that.

Mackenzie had been in an abusive relationship. I loved that the characters she told (including her mom) all believed her. While I understand that it often isn't like that irl, it's almost never like that in books. I like that Mackenzie had a great support system. It was a refreshing change to the heroine not being believed.

As for Samson, I mostly liked him. The only real issue I had that was he sees Mackenzie for the first time and thinks that she is the "one". I'm fine with insta-love, so that isn't the issue I had. Mackenzie had a boyfriend, and Samson won't go after her because of this. So instead he decides that having sex with a bunch of other girls during the course of the week is a solution to his feelings. I don't think that was necessary. While Samson isn't cheating, he doesn't even really know Mackenzie yet, it still seems like a plot point that is just thrown in there to show us how desirable Samson is.
And, yet again, we have the virginal heroine with the guy who is basically on cloud nine because he then gets to "claim her".

For a novella this one has a good amount of content in it.

M.E. Clayton has been a hit or miss author for me. The stories that I do like of hers, I really like and often they end up being ones that I will re-read. I'm happy to say that this one falls into that category.

Interesting, emotional, realistic

Heavy issues within this reading which make the story interesting, intriguing, and realistic. Mackenzie hide what happens like many victims do, but she grew a big set of balls and put a stop to it. Samson is not a typical teen and he helped the girl he loved. This book hits on some issues that happen a lot, loved how the author had the characters handling the situation in a safe way. Highly recommended to any to read.

MacKenzie and Samson

YA story didn't realized it was seniors in high school but it was a quick read and I needed a different read with all the other books I've been reading lately. I enjoyed it even though young. I think the mention of Macks eyes was over the top. We didnt need to read over and over what color they were.. Ill wint read the next ones since they are like 58 pages and just not interested in that short of a book.

Realy good 👍

This quote madee me wish good men like this existed...... if you are truly claiming her as yours, understand what that really means, Samson. Understand the responsibility that entails. If that girl has given herself to you, then you better be man enough and mature enough to guard her like the entire world is working around the clock to take her from you. Because it is.”

This May Be A Novella, But It Feels Like a Novel.

There is a lot packed into this short story. A sport's romance, obsessed romance, and love at first sight romance. It is spicy and steamy. There are rival teams and the girl who stands between them. Even more, there is the family you make. Here's what I love about M.E.'s writings, there is a vulnerability in these strong men that they are not afraid to show or support. Enjoy.

I feel like this story would have been a tiny bit better if the characters were aged up to early twenties/college students instead of high schoolers. I feel like it just made it kind of unbelievable how everything played out with them all being so young, especially the romance aspect. I didn’t mind the characters themselves but I feel like we didn’t really get any depth with them and the insta love that bordered on obsessive was just too much for their ages.

I have to say even though this is a bunch of teenagers with way to much drama i liked the plot as well as the love interest.. Not such a large fan though of authors taking a dig at fans within their novels, if you see the first few pages you will understand. Like actors/actresses they would be nothing with out fans.

Really liked this one

I wanted a high school romance where the hero isn't an unmitigated bully. I really liked that this is one. The heroine is proactive and not brainless, and I loved many attributes of the hero.

SAMSON and MACKENZIE

I really enjoyed reading this book. Honestly, I love an over-the-top YA alpha male, high-school, or college, who is tough for everyone else and soft only for his woman. Add to that a love-at-first-sight and we are golden!

Samson fell in love with Mackenze when she belonged to another school, even belonged to another man. Driven crazy with her thoughts Samson does everything to forget about her.
When things fall out between Mackenzie and her boyfriend, and in the most brutal, hurtful, and fearful way, Mackenzie joins Samson’s school, where he will waste no time in claiming what is now finally free to be his.

“I also wrestled with how I knew I was going to have to give her time. I was operating with the advantage that I’ve been in love with this girl for over a year; I was already all in.
This was all new to her. I knew our beginning was going to be…tumultuous, but this was happening.”

Samson just takes over, and it helps that Mackenzie has also always been intrigued by him and has thought of him often since they first saw each other a year ago.

I love how M.E. Clayton writes the first look. Its beautiful, filled with a ‘lightening-struck’ feeling, all focus is zoomed into each other and that moments.
A moment so visceral, so powerful that even people around it notices and know something has happened.

“It had been like a goddamn romance book or elaborate fairy tale. A girl with black hair and a body that didn’t belong on any teenage girl had rushed the field and everything else had faded into the background. I had stood in the middle of the field, frozen and pissed, that Ridgeview High possessed such a human.

My heart had beat a wild tattoo inside my chest and it had taken my coach, Ford, Raiden, and three other teammates to drag me away from the huddle. I had been mesmerized by his girl.”

I loved the way Samson is so protective over Mackenzie, hides her behind him to face her dangers and nightmares alone, but at the same time stands beside her and for her, no matter what.

“You could slaughter the entire town of Eastwood and I’d still never leave you.”

“Because I’m afraid if I kiss you, I won’t be able to stop with just a kiss. And even if it wasn’t that we’ve only been together for three days, after everything you’ve been through, I didn’t want to rush you.”

Add to this the already present ‘come-to-blows’ school and football rivalry between Samson and her ex-boyfriend who is determined to get her back no matter what the cost, even if it means hurting others, this book really had all the feels.

And can I just again say, how much I love YA -alpha men, who are all in at first glance.

PS : The scenes with Mackenzie’s family are so sweet, especially her mother. They way in the most subtle manner, she took care of Mackenzie and made her feel strong, was just perfect.
