Rescue Me is book two in Caleb and Ruby’s duet and book four in the Hawthorn Hills Duet Series. A two-part, angst-filled, broken love story. Ruin Me must be read before Rescue Me in order to enjoy the full story.
Life at its most complex can be rescuing.
Caleb Parker has fallen apart and her support has never wavered. But she knows the worst is yet to come.
Ruby Collins stood by him and he’ll do anything to hang onto her. Even if it means admitting he needs help.
With the fallout from Caleb’s actions affecting them both, Ruby is about to discover just how much they need each other.
With the past still looming, it could be the future that rescues them.
The Hawthorn Hills Duet Series follows eight couples. Each two-book duet must be read in order to enjoy the couple’s full story, but the series can be read in any order. You’ll find angst-filled, slow-burn, epic love stories along with topical storylines and some amazingly real and raw characters.
Rescue Me is the highly anticipated conclusion to Caleb and Ruby’s story and I have to start this review by saying, this book completely and utterly destroyed me. The amped up emotions surrounding the growing pains of any new relationship, coupled with the past and present traumas, let’s just say Caleb and Ruby’s journey wreaked havoc on my own emotions. I am a very emotional person, so I was left a wreck for days.
Ah, ok. Short and sweet. I can do this. I LOVED Rescue Me. I loved Ruby from Reid and Sienna’s duet, and that adoration and admiration for her only grew during this duet. The strength behind that girl was just incredible and awe inspiring. No matter what, she stood by Caleb through everything. Even pushing and being the voice of reason when needed. The overall family dynamic between Reid, Sienna, Caleb and Ruby was heart-warming and I just loved their family bond and interactions. Some twists and turns and long-awaited confrontations were weaved amongst the romance to add that little extra bit of drama and danger which helped separate the very heavy emotions.
Overall, I really enjoyed Rescue Me. It definitely put my heart and nerves through the ringer, but it was another phenomenal creation by Claire and Raye. Huge praise for these two ladies for highlighting the particularly hard conversations and truths surrounding PTSD and other traumas and the healing process. But also, for creating another powerhouse strong heroine.
I am already giddy to get my hands on the next instalment in this series, and hopefully delve further into Mila and Adam.
ARC kindly provided in exchange for an honest review.
I think I've said something similar to my review of Complete Me but I was SO NOT expecting where the storyline would go after that shocking cliffhanger in Ruin Me! But it shouldn't have surprised me in the least. This duo managed to flip the script in their first venture into Hawthorn Hills with Reid and Sienna's story and they did it again with Caleb and Ruby's book as well. The parallels between the duets are amazing and just reinforce the bond between all the main characters. In both duets, the first part is all about the romance and the struggle for the couple to get to a point where they can acknowledge and come to terms with their feelings, with minor to medium hurdles. But then along comes the second book in the duet and BOOM! Everything literally explodes and the story becomes more that just a romance novel.
I honestly don't know how this duo does it, but every story I've ever read written by them has managed to tackle a social issue that's current in the times we live. Claire Raye managed to weave the real life trauma, struggles and impact of PTSD so intricately into the story, so seamlessly that it comes out as truly a part of Caleb's make up and not some underhanded input, there just for shock value or a plotline device to try and extract emotions out of the readers. As you read, you truly feel Caleb's desperation and total desolation. You feel Ruby's strength and devotion and absolute faith.
YOU. FEEL. EVERYTHING.
Because every little thing is put in there with consideration. When these two authors decide to tackle a social issue that plagues us, they put their hearts and souls into it and they do it so delicately, you could be reading someone's autobiography and not fiction. It is NEVER used as a cheap and easy way to get the reactions but actually shine a light on issues that can happen to anyone. AND. IT. FREAKING. SHOWS.
My heart broke to tiny little pieces for Caleb and his journey was so damn rough that I don't know if I would be able to power through and get to the other side, if I were him. But his desire, his absolute need to be better, do better was so heartbreakingly beautiful watch.
And Ruby... she was the absolute WARRIOR QUEEN that I thought she were in the first part of this duet. Her courage, her unwavering loyalty and support, her vulnerability, her determination and compassion were so bright and loud and everything any young girl should aspire to be. She was there for everyone, putting everyone and everything, especially Caleb above herself, but when it was her turn to stumble a bit, she wasn't too proud to show her vulnerability and try to be open and honest and discuss things through and get the help she needs. But most of all, she knows her limits. Warrior Queen indeed!
I always seem to be rumbling when I review a Clair Raye's book but I simply can't help it and I also can't help recommend this series to anyone and everyone who will listen to me. Because with this duo, you don't just get a simple romance book but though provoking storytelling that will leave you reconsidering a lot of your life and choices. And that's priceless.
I loved this! I loved this whole series! I have been waiting for the continuation of Caleb and Ruby's story. And let me tell you, it is an epic conclusion!
Their story has been an emotional roller coaster ride and this part of their story is even more emotional. It just hits you right and makes you feel everything that they went through. I cannot get over this duet!
If you think Sienna and Reid's story is amazing, then read this one, because I know you're gonna love it! My favourite duet of the year!
As Caleb continues to deal with demons from his past, there is a new threat on the horizon for Ruby. This threat causes Caleb’s past to present itself landing him in trouble with the police. Ruby begins a mission to free his name with help from Sierra and Reid. I love this story as it shows these young adults love, friendship and determination to work together to meet a common goal.
This duet has all the emotions. You wont be disappointed. There is so much support Caleb gets from his people to help him deal with his situation. Mental health is a topic that doesn't usually get understood until it is to late, this story was great.
Even before finishing this book I knew this would be a tough review for me, I needed to decide how honest to be. In the end I decided I could be honest without giving so much detail I would feel exposed, because my feelings when reading this book just demonstrate how great this book is, and it would be doing the fantastic authors and injustice not to express it. . '𝘐 𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘨𝘨𝘭𝘦. 𝘏𝘦 𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘨𝘨𝘭𝘦𝘴. 𝘞𝘦 𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘨𝘨𝘭𝘦, 𝘵𝘰𝘨𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳, 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘵𝘰𝘨𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳. 𝘔𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘴𝘪𝘥𝘦 𝘣𝘺 𝘴𝘪𝘥𝘦.' . Rescue Me starts off directly where Ruin Me left us, in a mess of uncertainity, anxiety and fear. The first maybe half of the book I was struggling with, not because the book was bad, but because it was so relatable to me. Caleb and Ruby are trying to navigate through recent events and Caleb's mental illness without jeopardising their relationship. Of course the specifics are completely different, but reading this came at a crucial time for me. Reading about how Caleb feels his mental health is affecting Ruby, and about how Ruby struggles with how to be supportive of Caleb without pushing him too far really helped me. It helped me understand how my partner is feeling right now with me struggling. . I only mention all this because I think it is a true testamount to how powerful this story is and how these ladies have handled the issues in this story so realistically. There's no sugar coating, no pretense; it's all the dark ugly parts and all the small rays of light that burst through. It's the reality that you can be struggling, but still have those good days, where if people were looking it would seem there is nothing wrong. . But it's not just about Caleb. Ruby, Sie and Reid have also been affected by the recent events and this book just shows how effective having a loving and understanding support system is. These four truely are a family, one of choice, but a family nonetheless. Ruby might be the most selfless character I have ever had the pleasure of reading and she is definitely one of my favourite female leads. She is the light in the darkness for Caleb even when she herself is finding this hard to deal with. . I don't want to say too much more as I don't want to spoil the conclusion to this amazing love story. I will say if you are a lover of the steam, there is a lot less of that in this book, but I personally didn't have a problem with that. It would have felt inauthentic and forced to have any more than what is included in my opinion. But there is enough banter, lighthearted and romantic moments to see you through and it is all worth it in the end. . I feel like this is probably not a very good review, but I'm trying not to spoil any of the content, and I do believe this book is more about how it makes you feel: empathy, pain, understanding, anxiety, fear and unconditional love. . 𝘽𝙚𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙘𝙪𝙚𝙨 𝙢𝙚.” 💜 Let’s talk about “Rescue Me by Claire Raye”. Second book in a duet and fourth in the Hawthorn Hills series. 💜 What an amazing way to conclude Caleb and Ruby’s story. The book start right where we were left off in Ruin Me. We’ve got to see the fallout between Caleb and Ruby’s creepy professor. Caleb broke me. I felt in my bones every pain, doubt and confusion he felt. How unworthy he felt he was of his family, Sienna and Reid, and mostly important Ruby.
Claire and Raye are famous for not backing away of heavy topics in their stories, but dealing with mental illness issues is never easy. I felt so emotional during my reading, because this amazing duo managed to treat the matter with such care, conscious and so many details that sometimes I thought I was by their side living all that.
It was heartbreaking to see Caleb going through all this and see the consequences and effects of mental illness for not only who is suffering but the ones who are by their sides, such as Sienna, Reid and Ruby. Each of them suffered on their own way, but Ruby, my new girl crush, is such a strong woman and I loved how she could communicate with him even when it was difficult.
She was broken alongside him. But what was beautiful was their process of healing, it was painful, but necessary and the result was breathtaking. Ruby is the person I’d want to have by my side during all this and her attitude of never giving up on the people you love was inspiring.
The end of this book was perfect and the justice was finally served for all of them. I feel like after all Caleb has been through over the books, he still deserves a book with a lot of rainbows and butterflies. It’s like I need the reassurance that he is forever safe and well. I love you Caleb and Ruby, but I love Claire and Raye even more for giving me their story.
I loved this series I started with first one and ended up buying next 3. I hope thàt there will be another because I would love to know what happens with all of them.
I was eagerly awaiting the conclusion to Caleb and Ruby’s story after falling in love with them in book 1.... and I was not disappointed. The amazing duo that is Claire Raye have an amazing ability to suck you in to a story and to go to the deeper level with confronting issues in a raw and authentic way!! I love how they don’t shy away from the stuff that is sometimes hard to talk about!
Caleb and Ruby are a perfect match and I loved reading how they navigated the challenging waters to find each other in a good place after the crazy cliffhanger that left me wondering how they can find ever find their calm in the storm. Without giving too much away, I enjoyed the character development and how their relationship felt so realistic and authentic. There is a give and take between them and Ruby’s strength and loyalty is amazing. You also can’t help falling for Caleb as he puts back the pieces of his shattered world.
If you’re looking for a raw and emotionally gripping romance story about two people standing beside each other through thick and thin to find a new happy then definitely read this...! Actually, if you love romance stories... you should read all of their books ❤️
Caleb broke me in Ruin Me, but at that start of Rescue Me he completely SHATTERED my soul. I could feel every single emotion reading this story. It brought me to tears, it made me feel EVERYTHING. Just like Ruin Me, this book is one I felt on a personal level.
I loved Ruby in Ruin Me, really, I loved her from the moment she was introduced in Complicate Me, but after finishing Rescue Me I love her even more. Her support of Caleb and wanting to help him, to be there for him, to be his voice, to be the shoulder he can lean on. I don’t think I have ever felt so connected to a character in book. I love her determination. She isn’t going to give up on Caleb or give up on getting justice for not only her, but all the other women that may be involved.
Caleb’s journey is so real, it is raw, it is emotional, and it was never easy. The struggles he experienced and will continue to experience are real and not glamorized. It is one of the things I love most about Claire Raye’s writing. Real issues are tackled in a way that keeps them true and they don’t try to romanticize anything. I can’t even begin to praise them enough for this.
Caleb and Ruby’s duet is one that will creep its way into your soul and completely shatter you, but then slowly mend those shattered pieces. Ruin Me and Rescue Me are MUST READS! P.S. I’m crossing my fingers for Mila and Adam!
Thank you, Claire Raye, for writing this story that touched me so much and for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
Rescue Me is the conclusion of Caleb and Ruby's story and it was just a roller coaster of emotions, from the very first page (after the cliffhanger of book one) through the very last page. This book was just amazing and super emotional.
Caleb and Ruby went from the best of friends to lovers and their story was simply beautiful. This couple had to face so many obstacles in the road but it made them so stronger . We see how Caleb keeps struggling with his nightmares but Ruby is always there for him and when things get very complicated this couple had to fight their hardest to stay together and keep fighting for what they want.
Love this whole series and I can't wait for Claire Raye to bring more fabulous stories.
I cannot get over this duet that is a part of the Hawthorn Hills series. Caleb and Ruby's story is fantastic, and of course, I loved seeing Reid and Sienna throughout this book!
Claire Raye created a memorable female character that portrayed strength when helping Caleb through his trauma. I loved reading a story where the main male character sought comfort instead of believing he could do everything independently. Mind you, it took Caleb a while to get to that point, but it was beautiful to read about his journey to healing and growth.
I enjoyed the connection between them and how Caleb was instantly drawn to Ruby even though he had major trust issues.
I highly recommend this book and this entire series because it is fantastic.
I started reading Rescue Me the day something tragic happened in my little rural town that rocked everyone to their core. So the emotions I was feeling from that and the emotions I was feeling from this rather deep feeling read, made me question if this was the right time to read it. I’m glad I pushed through but, Caleb and Ruby’s story needed a happy ending and I needed to read it. Caleb was hard on himself and he had so much support and love around him but because he felt like he didn’t deserve it, he couldn’t see it. Thank goodness Reid, Sie and Ruby never once deserted him and everyone should have a trio like these guys in their life, wether you have a mental illness or not. Rescue Me was heartbreaking, relatable, very much relevant and sometimes hard to read but it’s a beautiful story and I hope you like it as much as I did. Fingers crossed for a Adam’s story next!!
This is the much anticipated conclusion to Caleb and Ruby’s story. Rescue Me picks up were Ruin Me ends, (which finishes in a cliff-hanger, so I recommend that be read first), and it did not disappoint! From the first page to the last it pulled on the heart strings and you fell more in love with Caleb and Ruby. Let’s just say I wanted to jump through page and give Caleb the biggest hug ever, more than once.
The emotion in this story pulls you in instantly and you want to keep turning the page, start the next chapter to find out what happens next-only to be thrown curve ball after curve ball. The climax of this book has you on the edge of your seat as I was experiencing the struggles and triumphs along with some of my favourite characters ever. Caleb and Ruby have so much to deal with since Ruin Me ended and you want what is best for them and hope they will be able to overcome and conquer together to get their HEA.
Ruby is every bit the heroine and strong female lead I could hope for. Her intelligence, compassion, strength, vulnerability and determination all shine through and you can not help but want to be her friend and want the best for her. Huge friendship goals in this entire story, even more so this specific book. The authors show that family is more than blood and demonstrate being able to choose your own family in such a heartfelt way.
Claire Raye has done an excellent job at bringing those tough but important topics to light and bringing awareness to things that people often shy away from.
This story will stay with me as the Hawthorn Hills world was so easy to become a part of. I will be re-reading all 4 books of this series again. 5 Stars.
**book received as an ARC in exchange for an honest review of the, these opinions are my own**
A beautiful ending, to a beautiful story. I think this is my favorite duet of the year. I love Ruby and Caleb so such! From beginning to end this story captivates you like you wouldn't believe. If you are looking for a heartwarming story about two people who absolutely love each other and would do anything for the other, this is it. Ruby and Caleb are made for each other. As a reader you want to protect the two of them with anything you can. Their love and dedication towards one another really jumps out on the pages. The ladies of Claire Raye did an amazing job with this duet and I cant wait to see where they take it next. Maybe Mila will get her story, or maybe its Adam. One can only hope its the two of them together lol. My rating : 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
What an emotional duet Claire Raye has given us! Ruby & Caleb each have their struggles. Eventually Ruby discovers how much her & Caleb truly need each other. This is such a good story & a powerful one! Go start this series for Free with Complicate Me & binge all the way through this one which is Resuce Me! I can't wait to read more stories from Claire Raye in very near future!
Who else is ready for some answer from Caleb and Ruby! Release date is set so maker the 11/11/2020 in your calendar now!
“Don’t you fucking dare say that, okay?” He adds. “We’re Family, Caleb and family sticks together, so you’re stuck with us, whether you like it or not, alright?”
Someone Rescue Me from his books hangover. This books is the conclusion to Ruin Me and it was everything I thought it was going to be and more. The book was absolutely amazing, the topic it hits you with will definitely put on all your emotions and make you feel everything.
Rescue me leads off where you finished in Ruin Me, and goes on for there. Whilst book 1 was about the relationship starting between Caleb and Ruby and some of the struggles that Caleb is going through, this book shows if their love can with stand anything and how they over come the trials. We also get more of Reid and Sienna in this book as well who are their to help these two get through everything and they are Caleb’s Family.
Claire & Raye have done an amazing job with this duet and this series in a whole. The topics they cover couldn’t have been easy to write so I feel like they need a round of applause. I highly recommend this series if you haven’t started it already!
I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of Rescue Me and for that I’m very grateful.
“There’s no one else in the world I would rather be going through this with than Caleb. I’ve watched our relationship go from a friendship to falling in love and there’s nothing better. I’ve watched him fight for himself and accept help and learn from everything. The growth he’s made over these last few months has been unreal.”
First I want to thank Clare Raye on writing such real characters. The way mental illness and ptsd was brought to light and talked about in such a real/raw way a breath of fresh air. The connection between Ruby and Caleb was what a real relationship feels/looks like and the way they both were there for each other was real. And Ruby!!! She is going on my list of favorite heroines!! Over all part two of Caleb and Ruby’s made me so happy!!
Rescue Me| Claire Raye Review “Rescue Me” by Claire Raye is the 4 book in the Hawthorn Hills Duet and part 2 of Ruby and Caleb story. As stated in my review for “Ruin Me,” “Rescue Me” picks up after the cliffhanger in “Ruin Me.” “Rescue Me” is so unique and unlike anything I had read before. I absolutely devoured “Rescue Me.” Aside from the Claire Raye duo always writing new organic material they also are never afraid to take on uncommon topics and themes. From “Ruin Me” I felt the authors nailed writing about mental illness and PTSD. They wrote about it in a realistic, and relatable way. Not only did they accurately show the MC having mental illness, but also how it affected those closest to him. Throughout “Rescue Me” I didn’t feel like I was just reading it. I felt like I was going through it with Caleb and Ruby. “Rescue Me” and “Ruin Me” both take you through an emotional roller coaster with a great payoff! That’s what truly made “Rescue Me” enjoyable. “Rescue Me” wasn’t the typical HEA, but it was for the main characters. I couldn’t have asked or read a better turnout for Caleb and Ruby. I fell for both characters in “Complicate/ Complete Me” and even more after “Ruin/ Rescue Me!” The Claire Raye ladies managed to write another successful read in my opinion! 🖤
The conclusion to ‘Ruin Me’ was everything I hoped for and more, and it just makes me further fall in love with the epic duo that is Claire Raye!
‘Rescue Me’ picks up right where ‘Ruin Me’ left off, and from page one this book absolutely grabbed me and refused to let me put it down! This entire series is so full of emotion I don’t know that I can adequately describe it or put into words how completely AMAZING it is.
In ‘Rescue Me’ the consequences of Caleb’s actions are now at the forefront as he and Ruby, navigate through his trauma, as well as what has happened to her. The anger and rage Ruby saw in Caleb would scare most people, but Ruby isn’t most people. She wants to help Caleb cope and heal, but will he let her?
I’ll not say a lot more, because I don’t want to be the one that spoils anything, but I love that Claire Raye aren’t shying away from tough topics. They’re writing about them and talking about them in a way that is beautiful and inspiring. These stories aren’t all rainbows and butterflies, and I think that’s why I love them, and why I love Caleb and Ruby’s story so much. They’ve been through it and watching them struggle and try to help each other to try and come out on the other side, was heartbreaking and heartwarming and just had me full of emotions!
This entire series is hands down one of my favorites of 2020, and I have a feeling I’ll be rereading these stories many more times.
The action picks up right where Ruin Me leaves off! This story was so powerful, and so incredibly written, and I just loved it!
These writers create such powerful stories and characters and you really connect with them. They don't shy away from issues that face people...people face these issues in real life, and for them to address them (especially women's issues!) is moving for me as a reader! Ruby and Caleb face so much together, and they don't back down -- it's something that everyone can connect with on some level.
I just loved the conclusion to Caleb and Ruby's story. They are so easy to fall in love with, and they don't back down from each other when they are going through hard times. Some couples might fall, but these two have such a connection, and I love seeing it grow and develop in this story!
Truly a brilliant story, and I absolutely devoured this book! Was on the edge of my seat and had all the feels for these two! I can't wait to see what we get next in the Hawthorn Hills world!
Claire Raye writes phenomenally in this fourth installment of the Hawthorn Hills series. She brings to light the raw, gritty truth of trauma, grief, and self-deprecation through a bold, selfless love story. Absolutely could not get enough of these characters and this storyline! 5 stars!
Thank you to #ClaireRaye for the ARC of #RescueMe which was read and reviewed voluntarily. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I received an ARC of this book in return for an honest review. Caleb and Ruby’s story continues. This time it’s filled with the full trauma of suffering with PTSD and the impact of those closet to them. Caleb struggles after his arrest but eventually manages to to see a therapist. This book focuses a lot on Caleb’s PTSD but it doesn’t overtake the whole story just enhances it. Ruby sticks by him through it all even though she is worried herself about returning to campus knowing Professor Keller is still there. There are still plenty of twists and turns along the way with this book and from about half way I didn't want to put it down. Another great read from the Claire Raye ladies.
This is the continuation of Caleb and Ruby's story, with the start and f the book immediately following the events of the first book in this duology. The couple must face the consequences of Caleb's actions and also the personal struggles that still haunts him. It takes a group effort from Sienna, Reid, and Ruby in supporting Caleb through this situation.
For the most part, I enjoyed the whole story. There was one chapter in which the start of it got me annoyed but after that it was focused on helping Caleb while also making his relationship strong with Ruby. Ruby is strong here but knows that it's a fine line in helping her boyfriend before overstepping healthy boundaries. Truly, this book explores how mental health is crucial and for some people, seeking professional help is key to healing.
I enjoyed the duology very much and look forward to more of this series by Claire Raye.
Rating 4.5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Part of a Series: Yes (Hawthorn Hill Duet #4) Rescue Me, was a very emotional book that I really loved. It picks up right were Ruin Me ended, as Caleb is arrested for beating up the stalking professor! He is a bad character, that has been getting away with things for a long time!!!
Caleb's road to recovery is a very different one, but seeing Ruby give him all that love, and support through out all his emotional ups and downs was a beautiful thing to see, and heartwarming. Caleb's determined to push her away, because he thinks he doesn't deserve her, or her love; but Ruby will have none of that...... she's as determined to prove to him he is deserving of love and they belonged together, that she isn't going anywhere. She is such a strong, smart, beautiful woman......I love Ruby!p
They truly love each other, and that love is what makes them survivor his PTSD, and everything else that happens after that night he was arrested. She pushes him in a nice way to seek help with a therapist. He is slowly getting the help he needs. We get to spend time with Sie and Reid, and Mia is coming back she's going to be so much fun!!! I can't wait. We do get a happy ending to this book, no cliffhangers!
ARC was given by Author .....thank you so much! My review is giving voluntarily ❤️!
This one gets into some deep issues, and I appreciate the author's insight into best to handle.... while still being honest enough on how it does get swept aside. Loved it!
