They’re from two different centuries, but they’re perfect for each other.
Megan Turner is in love with the past. As a tour guide at a beautiful historic mansion, she tells visitors about its original owner, Charles Whitley. An inventor and businessman in the early 1900s, he rose from poverty to wealth…only to disappear without a trace.
Charles was always intrigued by the future. He just never expected to go there. But when he repairs a mysterious clock he bought on his travels, he’s transported to the twenty-first century, with his home decorated for Christmas and overrun by strangers.
Charles is determined to find a way back to his own era, especially when he learns about what happened after he left. But as Megan introduces him to the wonders of smartphones, pizza, and modern holiday traditions, they both feel a once-in-a-lifetime connection. Could it be that, somewhere in time, they belong together?
This magical holiday romance includes a free Hallmark original recipe for Stuffed Crust Italian Pizza.

Enjoyable time-travel romance about a tour guide (Megan Turner) who is in love with the past, and an inventor and businessman from 1902 (Charles Whitley) who accidentally comes to the future. Sweet read with likable characters.
This was a cute premise and I can sometimes suspend my disbelief for time-travel novels. 🕰
In 1902 Charles Whitley is an up and coming businessman and steel magnate who "disappears" a week before Christmas. 🎄 In present day (2018) Megan Turner is a historical tour guide of the old Whitley Manor. She has always had a secret crush on Mr. Whitley so when the two come face to face there are some sparks.
I must admit that this was a cheesy book but sweet. The romance lacked a bit for me..there was not much of a build-up but it is Hallmark after all. I enjoyed the historical aspects and the Christmas scenes were cute.
I listened to this book and the narrator had a sweet and delightful voice. Perfect for the story. I'm really looking forward to the upcoming movie. This might be one time where I will actually enjoy the movie more than the book.
I'd like to kindly thank NetGalley and Dreamscape Media/ Hallmark Publishing for granting me access to this Audiobook.
This was cute, but it wasn't anything special. Charles finds himself traveling forward in time to his home that is now a museum about his life. Megan doesn't believe he's the real Charles Whitley from the past, but the more time they send together, the more she starts to believe he is. And as they spend more time together, they start falling for each other. It was cute watching him learn about the future, especially from the perspective as an inventor. What got annoying, though, was how hung up he was about going to the past just to best his competition. Really? That's what drives you in live and matters more than people you care about? It felt like it just took too long and he should have realized sooner what mattered most. It wasn't a bad book. I still had fun, but it was just a run-of-the-mill Christmas romance.
UPDATED December 13, 2020: I just watched a Hallmark Christmas movie version of this book and it was SO GOOD. (It didn't hurt that the actor chosen to portray Charles Whitney is the most ridiculously handsome man I've ever seen.)
UPDATED November 30, 2018: OMG, loved this so much!! If you enjoy: a.) time travel; b.) Christmas; and c.) lovely, adorable stories - then just go download this right now.
------- This just came out today and I bought it - very unlike me! But it sounds like something I will really enjoy. I am saving this for when it gets closer to the holiday; I hope it breaks the string of mostly dreadful "Christmas Lit" choices I made last year.
I have received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review
Since I've seen the movie before diving into this little holiday gem, I knew I was going to fall in love with the entire story. There was just something about the Christmas magic that made these two come together.
In it, you will meet Megan and Charles. She is a historical reenactor at the Whitley-Moran museum. Charles is the man who disappeared.. only to appear in Megan's timeline wondering why people were in his house. Long story short, they all though he was the new actor and then they let him join in one the tour.
Honestly, these two were really cute. It didn't matter to me that he wasn't in his correct time zone thing because he ended up finding his true love in this one. Of course, that didn't stop him from trying to go back home.. but we all knew that wasn't going to happen one bit.
In the end, loved this book and now I want to re-watch the movie!
Cute cover and a fun premise for a time travel Christmas story.
Megan Turner is a history major who works at Whitley manor. She's kind of a little bit obsessed with Charles Whitley, the inventor extraordinaire and owner of the manor. The only problem? He lives in the past, or rather he did, until his mysterious disappearance right before Christmas. Now his home is preserved and run as a museum and Megan dresses up as his housekeeper to take guided tours through the home. She has a fun surprise waiting for her as during one of her tours, who should appear but THE Charles Whitley himself! Surprise!
I really am hoping that since this is a Hallmark book, it will also be a Hallmark movie. I think it would be great. I didn't fall in love with and connect with the book as much as I had hoped I would. I ended up skimming through most of it because it wasn't holding my attention. The dialogue and the characters just didn't create the connection that I normally love in a book. But I do think that there will be many readers who do enjoy this read.
Even though I did skim a lot of the book, I will say that the ending held my attention a lot more than I had thought it would with how the rest of the book and I connected. I will definitely be watching for a Hallmark movie of this story though.
Content: Clean. Some moments of peril but nothing graphic.
I received a copy from the publisher, Hallmark Publishing, via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.
Charles Whitley, an inventor traveled from 1902 to 2018. In present his mansion is now a historical museum where he met Megan who works there as tour guide. Charles is uncertain how he traveled through time but has to find a way to get back.

In 1902, Inventor Charles Whitley is in his newly built mansion working on a mantel clock that has stopped working. As he quietly works on the intricate gears, he looks up to see a group of strangely dressed people enter his den. Megan Turner is a tour guide at the Whitley Mansion. She is surprised to see they've hired a new re-enactor to portray Charles Whitley, the former owner of the mansion who mysteriously disappeared over 116 years ago. But this guy seems to be a very good actor and even looks exactly like the photo of Charles. When he keeps insisting that he is Charles and somehow he traveled from 1902, Megan begins to think he may be telling the truth.
I've been looking for some audiobooks to listen to while I'm exercising, and chose this one to pass the time. I've always enjoyed a good time-travel story, but the characters in the story must be somewhat believable. When Charles confesses to the people who work in the mansion that he is the real Charles Whitley from 1902, they really have no problem believing him. Even though he seems confused by modern conveniences, I think it would take a little more to convince most people.
The story itself is pleasant but there are no surprises. I listened to the audiobook which was a mistake. I didn't care for the narration. Charles sounded very pretentious and most of Megan's dialogue was very stilted, almost like a computer voice talking to you. It's my fault I didn't switch to the printed book. My rating: 2.5 Stars.
I had seen the movie but didn't realise it was a book until a week or so ago. It got a bit too syrupy sweet for me towards the end. The hero got a bit annoying with his determination to go back. He didn't consider anyone else's feelings other than his own. A quick light Christmas read but the movie is better.
That cover is SO magical and this book was a delight to read from the very beginning!! I greatly hope this movie will play this holiday season because it just came to life for me on the page :)
Megan is adorable and loves Christmas, she made the historical part of this book fascinating and fun. Charles is a workaholic and recluse, his character was perfectly written in this story!
I didn't have a favorite character, even though Sophia was cute and slightly bossy, but I was captivated by the story from the moment it began.
Stanton has a gift for writing both history and Christmas in a tangible way that will keep readers glued to the pages until the very end!
Thank you Hallmark Publishing via NetGalley for the ARC copy of this book. This is my honest opinion, all comments are my own.
This is a time slip Christmas romance from Hallmark Publishing, so of course it read like a Hallmark movie, which I loved. The characters are all very likable-especially the female lead, Megan, who has an obsession with history (just like me!). Even outside of the time travel aspect of the story, this one may require some suspension of disbelief because of how quickly Charles Whitley acclimated to present day, with all of its changes and technology. It's a short, sweet, and cozy read, perfect for enjoying during the Christmas season. (Sidenote: I saw that it has just been made into an actual Hallmark movie and is currently airing in the holiday movie rotations on TV, so I'm 100% watching it for the feel-good factor.)
Audiobook Notes: It was a lot of fun to listen to this story in audiobook format. Kate Rudd narrated the book, and she did a great job with both female and male voices. It was just a lot of fun to listen to such a sweet story while I was doing work around the house.

A Timeless Christmas is a play on the scrooge finding out that there is more to life than work when he time travels to the future.
Charles lost his parents at a young age and he has since dived into work to keep from feeling such an emotional hurt again. He's engaged to be married, but constantly puts his work above even his fiancé. It takes an accidental time travel and a woman in the future to show him what he is missing if he just slowed down and enjoyed what life has to offer.
I love time travel stories and I love Christmas stories so this was an easy yes for me to give the audiobook a listen. It didn't disappoint. I enjoyed Charles and Megan's story and this got me into the Christmas mood.
The narrator did a really good job with all the characters and bringing this story to life. I highly recommend listening to the audiobook.
Megan Turner is a tour guide at a beautiful historic mansion where she tells visitors about its original owner, Charles Whitley. An inventor and businessman in the early 1900s, he rose from poverty to wealth…only to disappear without a trace Well, it seems he disappeared to the future. The story has a dual timeline where we learn about Charles in 1902. While repairing a clock to give his fiancee, something happens and he ends up in the future at the right time. The re-enactor who plays Charles for the tours has just quit and Charles ends up playing himself. As he learns about the future, Megan learns about the past, which she loves. They also learn about each other, Christmas traditions and their hopes and dreams. Does Charles have to return to the past or will he stay in the present day with Megan?
Once again, I was immersed in small town America. Christmas traditions and fun were shared throughout this story. The time travel plotline was well done. Of course no one believes him until he shared information and knowledge that only Charles Whitley would have. The friendship that develops between Megan and Charles was sweet and well written. He helps her to deal with a situation that has been causing problems and once resolved it helps her to reach for a goal and dream that she has. Charles is upset when he finds out what transpired after he disappeared and is adamant that he needs to return to 1902. Will love win out? Well, this is a Hallmark story after all. I very much enjoyed this one and recommend it to those who enjoy a HEA, the Hallmark way. The narration was performed by Kate Rudd. I have listened to other books she has narrated and do enjoy her work. She adds expression and tone to differentiate speakers as well as add excitement to the story.
~ Audiobook Review ~ Such a fun and light time travel novel. It’s merry and bright, perfect for the Christmas season!
Summary: Charles Whitley is suddenly transported from December 1902 to December 2018. His mansion has been preserved identically to the original except for added Christmas decorations, it is now used as a museum for historical tours with a full cast acting as though it’s a functioning house of 1902. Megan Turner loves history, she plays the house keeper Rosie’s role by taking the visitors on the tours, as would have been the house keepers role in 1902.
Series: A Stand Alone.
Movie: There is now a hallmark channel Christmas movie coming out in 2020 based on this novel. I think this will be fantastic as a movie!
Content: This is a light easy read, relaxing and merry for the Christmas season. Secular. Very clean romance. Very diverse in its characters and cultures represented. Not really a mystery like you might expect time travel to be, it’s more just an interesting storyline with everything spelled out.
Audio Performance: 9/10 A vibrant and lively performance from Kate Rudd. It was a solo fully voiced performance (meaning each character had a unique voice).
Author: Alexis Stanton Narrator: Kate Rudd Length: 6hrs 52min (Unabridged) Book Released: 23-Oct-18 Audio Released: 18-Jun-19 Publisher: Dreamscape Media Audio Platform: Scribd
All of the Christmas books I reserved at the library are coming in late due to COVID, but you know what? I can live with it. Our tree is still up, and it's cold outside. I can work with this.
This one was okay. I won't be reading it again, but all in all, I've certainly read worse Christmas books. The plot was somewhat original, and while the author had a few areas to work on (info dumping through dialogue and making her characters extreme versions of black and white), she still kept it on the rails. All things considered, this wasn't a bad Christmas read. If you're looking for a cheesy Hallmark-style Christmas read, this one is probably worth putting on your list.
Take time to read this enchanting story this holiday season! You’ll find your Christmas spirit and Christmas love with Meghan Turner as your guide. After getting her Ph.D. in History, Meghan has returned to her hometown of Cutter Spring and is serving as a reenactor guide at the town’s historic home.
She is quite knowledgeable about the house’s provenance, and while she loves each artifact and fixture, she has a special place in her heart for the home’s original owner, Charles Whitely. He was a mercurial inventor who mysteriously disappeared at the height of his business life.
And then one afternoon as she is guiding a tour to Mr. Whitley’s study- there he is! He’s at his desk and very displeased to be interrupted by a crowd of people in unusual dress, holding small devices. We learn that somehow an unusual clock that he had purchased in 1902 has transported him to today’s world.
Meghan is delighted and is drawn to his old-fashioned attitude, demeanor and manners and good looks. As an inventor, he is able to quickly accustom himself to the features of the present day. He is able to understand computers, smart phones, and kitchen appliances but he has much more trouble understanding matters of the heart. In his real life, he always forged ahead, focusing on what his head could achieve and not what his heart needed.
Charles is determined to return to 1902, but Meghan begins to show him the spirit of Christmas, which includes sweet love, sugary cookies and spicy pizza. Meghan is ready to spend the future with him, but will time unbraid their love on Christmas Eve? Even though I was hoping for a Happy Ever After, I wasn’t sure if it was going to happen.
I had a wonderful time with this loveable story and I look forward to trying out the pizza recipe at the end of the book!
Many thanks to Hallmark Publishing for an ARC. This is my honest review.
A Timeless Christmas by Alexis Stanton is a sweet romance told through the ages.
Can Charles Whitley get back to his own time? Or will the future entice him to stay?
Megan Turner Megan Turner is a young woman that recently got her Ph.D. in American History and works at the Whitley-Moran Mansion. She is a tour guide acting as Rosie, Mr. Whitley's housekeeper when he was around. Megan is a wonderful character that I loved to read about since she doesn't try to hide who she is. Sure she has a bit of self-doubt within herself thanks to her last boyfriend, but things pick up for her, and Megan takes back her confidence when she plays Rosie. Megan is someone that I would be in awe of if I met her on the streets.
Charles Whitley Charles Whitley is a self-made wealthy guy from the year 1902. He was fixing a clock for his fiancee, Eliza, and he was transported through time to 2018. He has a lot of things to get used to quickly, especially because he can't stay in his own home anymore. I love how Charles goes from being this proper guy who loves the future to realizing he needs to let go of what happened when he was flying through time stay the way it is. The last one took a long time for that to sink in.
I loved the romance between Megan and Charles unfolding before my eyes while reading. Megan and Charles also seem like the perfect match.
Comparison to the movie Compared to the movie, I have to say that the book was a lot better. We got a lot more scenes and a whole slew of more characters. There are differences, like the years going from 1902 and 2018 to 1903 and 2020. I still loved the actors they picked for the main characters, as they still work perfectly. Kenny is also totally different in the book, and his name is Phillip.
Both the book and movie were great on their own merit.
Five Stars A Timeless Christmas by Alexis Stanton is a fantastically written novel. I fell in love with these characters all over again. It has been two years since I said I would read this novel, but I finally finished it. Ms. Stanton has a way of bringing you to her characters and their setting while forgetting about the world around you.
Megan Turner and Charles Whitley are a wonderful couple, even if I wish we could know how they got Charles Whitley to do anything requiring identification without a birth certificate and social security number. Then again, it is a romance novel that probably wouldn't fit in with what the author wanted to say. I do love the rest of the characters that didn't get their limelight in the movie, but that is totally fine. I am giving A Timeless Christmas by Alexis Stanton five stars and highly recommend it!
I do have to say that you should read the book and see the movie as well. Both are great!
Oh, and don't forget to check out the recipe at the back of the book. It's for a Stuffed Crust Italian Pizza sounds delicious.
Thank you for dropping by! I hope you enjoyed this review of A Timeless Christmas by Alexis Stanton.
I love a Christmas read and it has been quite some months since I read a time travel romance. The cover too attracted me and almost seemed to call me.
Megan in the present time loves Christmas but she loves Charles Whiteley more. She does work as a guide in his home converted into museum. Charles in his time is working on a time-piece when he is transported to Megan's time but still in his own home, astounded with so many people in it.
It was delightful to see their attraction slowly seeping through the pages. Megan loved his old fashioned ways, his flair, and of course he was a hottie. It was nice to see Megan charming him with cookies and pizza.
By the end of the read, I was charmed, intrigued and kind of hungry.. Somehow.. I longed for a pizza. My first book by author Alexis Stanton, saw me with my kindle and pizza. Ah bliss!!
2.5. Overall a good enough holiday story. It drove me bananas how often she mentioned her ex. And there’s a little glossing over... him understanding thing he definitely wouldn’t, the logistics of him functioning in modern America. Also he has a fiancé the whole time.
I received a complimentary copy of this eBook from The author, Netgalley, and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
Charles Whitley is working on a clock to give to his fiancée Eliza when he transported through time into the twenty-first century in his home decorated for Christmas with tons of strangers being guided through it by a young woman named Megan. Will he be able to return to his home in 1902? Read on and find out for yourself.
This was a pretty good and perfect book to read for the Christmas season. If you enjoy Christmas stories, definitely check this book out wherever books and eBooks are sold.
I think that stories that involve time travel are often harder to execute than people might think. It's lovely to write about a man in 1902 that arrived in the modern age & was able to adjust, almost seamlessly, to a lot of differences between our societies. However, in reality, it would not have been so easy.
The simple experience of being in a vehicle might have sent him for a loop. Our automobiles go at a far greater speed (even on the slower speed-limited roads) than those available to him in his time. Though this is one example, I often find myself nit-picking at the experience of the character who has travelled through time. The wording we use is different, our clothes, our mannerisms, our stores, our vehicles, our music, our technology, etc. I understand that this story was meant to be a cute holiday read but I couldn't get past the ease with which Charles just kind of accepted that he was not in 1902 any longer.
This book would make a great corny holiday movie. Listening to the audiobook really solidified that feeling for me. Though Kate Rudd did an awesome (superb) job at narrating the story, the plot itself would play out better in a film than in literature. I was interested in this book because it's the time of year to be reading about Christmas & love but, this is not the type of book I am usually drawn to so perhaps due to this fact, I wasn't able to appreciate it as much as another person might.
Thank you to NetGalley, Dreamscape Media, & Alexis Stanton for the free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!
This is my first time reading a book written by Alexis Stanton. "A Timeless Christmas: An Enchanting Time Travel Romance" is an engaging read from beginning to end. I absolutely love the author's writing style! There are plenty of Christmas elements to keep me entertained!
"Megan fought to keep from sighing. There was something so gallant about Charles's manners that spoke directly to her inner romantic" (pg. 145).
I love the change from Megan's point of view to Charles Whitley's point of view. One is fascinated by the future while the other is in love with the past. They both learn from each other. Megan teaches Charles the beauty of Christmas, of opening up his heart and to slow down to enjoy the moment. Charles has faith in Megan's abilities, supports her dreams and encourages her to take chances.
"When was the last time he last looked at the stars? When had been the last time he'd done anything for the pure pleasure of experiencing life, instead of trying to get from one point to another?" (pg. 261).
"He told himself that he would take pleasure in the moment, because everything else was uncertain" (pg. 191).
You have to suspend your disbelief a little in reading a time travel story - like Megan and her friends believed Charles Whitley was from 1902 a little too quickly and kept the truth from others. Megan finds the missing piece Charles needed to fix the clock. And hard to believe that the next red moon lunar eclipse is tomorrow night (Christmas Eve).
"Despite the incredible fact that she'd been born a hundred years after him, they got along so well" (pg. 93).
I enjoy the fish-out-of-water story. "Email? What a peculiar word" (pg. 193).
I love the slow burn romance (a duration of one week). "If he and Megan kissed, he might find it exceedingly pleasant. And addicting" (pg. 193).
Towards the end, it was so ominous and melodramatic. "They walked out together - for the last time" (pg. 312). "I cannot imagine a future - in any century - without you" (pg. 325).
I appreciate the author's historical references to the 1900's, mentioning Tesla's induction motor, Elisha Gray's telautograph, the Seth Thomas Clock Company, the Corliss steam engine and the orange in Charles's Christmas stocking.
The book came with an Epilogue, a second ending that the movie did not show - revealing what the characters are doing one year later.
My book includes a free Hallmark original recipe for Stuffed Crust Italian Pizza.
"I got the happily ever after. But it wasn't easy" (pg. 277).
I honestly loved this book! Christmas themed story with TIME TRAVELING?! omg GIVE. IT. TO. ME! I went into this book with the expectations of a low budget Christmas movie on Amazon prime and came out with the high quality work of something I probably would have gone to see in theaters! I loved it from beginning to end without a bit of hesitation. Megan is an actor at the local museum portraying Rosie, the head of the household staff of the previous owner, Charles Whitley. He disappeared mysteriously in 1902 before he was to marry his betrothed, Eliza. In his will, he left the house to Eliza and requested his home be turned into a museum. And that's exactly what she did. Megan loves history and with her new PhD in American history, she is hoping to do more than share her favorite stories of Mr Whitley's estate and amazing gifts he shared with the world, but to teach at the local university as well. But one day, someone in strange clothes and a bit off his rocker suddenly shows up in one of her tours in the study. A man claiming to be Charles Whitley himself! Yet the actor portraying him was supposed to meet the tour in the ballroom, not the study! Who could this man be who looked just like the missing owner of the estate? Incredibly enough Charles Whitley in the flesh had traveled from 1902, all the way to 2018. His sudden change of scenery is a lot to take in but with the help of an incredibly patient Megan, he begins to find his way through a century of world changes. Her kind heart and beautiful looks seem to help more than just his ability to adjust, but also begin to soften Charles's heart and they begin to fall for one another. The rest is, well, history!
5 stars! I am looking forward to watching this as a hallmark special this season!
I love stories where somebody from the past is transported to present day and they have to adjust to new technology and all the social changes that have taken place. It can be a really interesting way to comment on how society has progressed and what things still need to be fixed.
While this story does feature a man from 1902 accidentally time travelling to 2018, it didn’t really accomplish everything that I want these types of stories to do. Charles Whitley was an inventor in the past so like 90% of what he was learning about in the present were technological advances. There’s like one or two comments about progress in terms of women’s rights over the years, but other than that any social or political discussion was not present. Maybe it was too much to hope for from a Hallmark book.
If the romance between Charles and Megan had been stronger I probably could’ve forgiven the book. But I didn’t not feel any sparks between them at all. Charles spends the majority of the book wanting to return to the past for an extremely selfish and obnoxious reason. Then all of a sudden they’re in love with each other.
“Clean” romances aren’t my thing, but I was willing to give it a shot for the time travel plot. So this was just a big miss all around for me.
Megan Turner has always been fascinated by history, so working as a historical reenactor at the Whitley-Moran museum was the perfect job for her as she finished graduate school. Now with a new PhD, she's finishing up the Christmas season while looking for a position as a history professor. Inventor, genius, and self-made businessman Charles Whitley has always been focused on his work (much to the chagrin of his fiancee, Eliza), until he somehow travels forward in time from 1902 to 2018. While helping him acclimatize to the 21st century, Megan and Charles become close. But what will happen when he has to go back to the past?
This is an absolutely perfect Christmas romance. No wonder it just made its debut as a Hallmark Christmas movie. Megan is smart and caring (if lacking a little self-confidence) and Charles is the holiday-hating workaholic Grinch all holiday movies (and books) need. It's the perfect combination of romance and holiday magic.
3.4/5 stars — if enjoying this book is corny then go ahead and cover me with salt and butter, baby!!!! it stretched itself a bit thin with so many side characters for such a short book but do Megan and Charles make me giggle and kick my little feet in the air?? YES
