After barely surviving the Brood’s first vicious assault, the battered human battle group must now take the fight to the enemy’s home systems.
Defeat is not an option. If Captain Husher and Admiral Iver can’t lead their people to victory, not only will those in the battle group perish – so will all of humanity.
Counterstrike is the second book in the Fleet Ops series. I don't recommend reading this book as a standalone as you really need to have read the first book in order to understand the storyline. There is violence. Captain Husher is a complicated man and this story is a good addition both to this series and the overall Ixan universe.
When I picked up the first book in the Fleet Ops series – Trapped – I realized I was a long ways past Scott Bartlett’s first book in his Ixan Universe. Read it anyway, loved it, and gave it Five Stars.
Counterstrike is Book 2. Read it and loved it. Some reservations about successive space battles that seemed to be variations of each other. And somewhat depressed by the degradation of the small fleet trapped in a “Bubble Universe” as ships are destroyed, surviving ships badly damaged, almost out of ammunition, mech warriors and fighter ships being whittled down catastrophically; found myself amazed how well Scott Bartlett had crafted this series in such a way that while failure is becoming almost a certainty, the characters stand out so well that their stories are addictive, and… I downloaded the third book – Relentless – having missed the fact that the trilogy is available as a Box Set and I could have saved a few dollars.
Previously, I read and reviewed the Box Set of Spacers (Books 1 – 6… and I also purchased the next two books in the series). Thoroughly enjoyed each book. Totally hooked on Scott Bartlett. And just went through his listing on Amazon, and purchased the Capital Fleet, Shattered Galaxy, Mech Wars, and the Supercarrier box sets… and had already bought the three Gates of Eternity novels as they came out. I know it is going to take a lot of time to work through these, but it sure feels great knowing that if the last two or three novels by other authors kind of felt flat, I can always return to the Ixan universe, confident that they will not disappoint.
Captain Husher and the fleet are stuck in a pocket universe and are unable to travel across dimensions back into the Milky Way’s dimension because of the strange physics in the present dimension. The fleet leaders realize their ships are in sad shape from the latest battle and they have little time and material to affect repairs. They are also woefully short of sufficient munitions as they anticipate the arrival of the Brood in overwhelming numbers. They attempt to enlist the Scion, a somewhat private race in this dimension, to help defend their own homeland. Can the combined forces hope to defeat the seemingly unlimited numbers of Brood fighters? Or will the outcome be total annihilation of all non-Brood races in the galaxy? I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and highly recommend this series. I received an ARC – this is my honest opinion. I purchased a copy on release to support these great writers. I’m looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
Well, here I am again. I am going to have to buy a Thesaurus to properly explain how much I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I find it truly amazing how the Scion are able to sit back and watch while Admiral Iver and Captain Husher and the rest of the team do all they can to try to save this pocket universe from the Brood. After having Captain Husher walk with his ancestors, they still didn't join the fight. Unbelievable! Selfish, too. But after Captain Husher returns to berate them, they finally have a change of heart. Now they just need to figure out a way to get food, supplies, repairs and more personnel from the Scion or all could be lost just on that basis. But what a finale to this book. You guys have me salivating to continue reading about this universe.
This is one of the best sci fi books you can read. It is full of action and suspense plus it has some twist in it that are perfect. I can not say anything other than if you love sci fi then you will love Counterstrike. I could not stop reading it and it is a long book. If possible it is best to read Trapped first to tie the 2 books together and make Counterstrike even better. The characters are the same and when you read Counterstrike you will be glad you read Trapped first. Both books are just super reads and you will love them both. Counterstrike has some twist in it that will blow you away.
What a remarkable space opera. Warning a lot of people die including some very good characters. Definitely leaves you with a cliffhanger. Can’t wait for book 3 to be released.
This adventure has the Relentless, Providence and a host of other vessels trapped in a pocket universe. It picks up directly after Trapped. Once again Husher is the key to winning this battle. This has been a long Journey since the Ixa Prophecies and the introduction to Lieutenant Husher.
Captain Husher and Admiral Iver and crew are back and fighting to survive. There were a lot of fun battles to be fought in this book along with a few surprises. I was entertained and drawn in to see what would happen next. Would the fighting with the Brood end this time? I laughed and groaned and whined but it was a blast to read if you like battles. And do not forget the surprise of new aliens. Loved it
"Counterstrike" FLEET OPS BOOK 2 is just like my buddy said it is a War Gamer's Delight. I absolutely loved this book. It is the second book to Fleet Op book 1 "Trapped". The energy is totally off the chain, Action abundance, and what a ride. I say to really enjoy this book to get a copy of book 1 first, so you will be up on all the action Husher and Iver is in as it picks up right where book one left off. I totally think you will love it too.
This second book in the Fleet Ops series moves along at a quick pace. The new aliens we meet in the first book are further developed in this one. The situation continues to deteriorate for the protagonists as the story moves along. I enjoyed the book although I found that some of the battles, while good and interesting, dragged on in places. I look forward to reading the third book in the series.
Just finished this exciting book . Another great read from Scott and Joshua. Trapped in a micro universe Gusher, Fesky and Jake Price are fighting for their lives against Alternative Husher and the Brood. Husher has to confront his past too get the battle fleet home to the milky way. I don't want to give anything away, but this is a cracking read.
“Don’t give up on him yet,” said a familiar voice from the passageway. Fesky glanced back from the rack’s side to find Iver standing in the doorway. She wasn’t sure if he’d heard her comments to herself or was just making small talk, as humans were wont to do.
Lots of action. Pretty much that is what it is all about. My interest is waining a bit. I was hoping for more. One more book in this trilogy for me. I think I will take a little break in this trilogy so I don't lose too much interest.
I've enjoyed reading this book 1 and book 2, both were well written and keep the action rolling along at a fast pace. I can't wait for book 3 to come out.
Still trapped in the pocket universe, the Relentless, her crew and the rest of the battle group are recovering from the constant assault by The Brood. Barely holding on as their enemy rackets up their strategy against Husher, the captain turns towards their mysterious allies, the Scions'. Even after Husher undergoes a sacred ceremony upon the Scion homeworld, hoping to cement their alliance may not be enough to stop the horrific tsunami that The Brood are about to unleash not in this universe but that could become a plague into the universe the crew of the Relentless calls home. Highly recommended.
Scott has written another winner, it is fast paced and a well thought out plot line. The characters are engaging and I really liked the story. Recommend to anyone that likes good Space Opera!
