What would it be like to relinquish control?
Neat and orderly, Ian Williams, is almost finished with his Master’s degree in Psychology. All he has left to complete are finals and one simple project; take part in an outreach program for inmates close to release. With his knowledge, it should be easy to help an inmate prepare for life outside again. What he doesn’t expect is Nico. A dirty talking, tattooed beast of a man who turns his world upside down when he says, “Mine!”
What if you find your soulmate in the place you least expect it?
With only a few months left in prison, Nico West is ready to move on with his life. He’s got his business, a best friend, and his mamá waiting for him when he gets out. What he doesn’t expect is a buttoned-up, bow tie wearing cutie who thinks he’s going to help Nico prepare for life after his release. But Nico is a man who knows what he wants and takes it. One word and Ian will know where he stands, “Mine!”
All of the books in the “He’s Mine” series can be read as standalones, but are more enjoyable if read in order as characters from previous books may make an appearance.
Our books are a little bit dirty and a whole lotta sweet. They’re low-angst, contain explicit mm lovin’, insta-love, possessive alphas who take what they want, #caveman, and maybe a virgin or two. You’ve been warned.
Sullied has been revised and re-edited. The storyline hasn't changed.
2 Rolling-my-eyes Stars!! 🙄It may just be me, because my other GR friends have loved this book. (so my apologies in advance) I went in expecting an Alessandra Hazard or Roe Horvat type of book; but found this one to be more suited to fanfic sites or other sites catering to such amateur authors 😬 My main complaints: * No chemistry between the MCs * OTT plot 🙄 * Too many supporting characters (for such a short novella) * Spelling and grammatical mistakes * An alpha toppy type grunting "he's mine" on every other page does not make up for lack of story and character development.
My advice to the authors: * Put some time in research before you concoct your next story (just having a concept is not enough) * Bring some humor and heart between the MCs, even if the relationship starts with insta-lust
I got irritated right at the start when a name was spelled differently in the first chapter itself 🙄. Then the grammatical mistakes piled up.. 😬 . The plot was boring, the chemistry was cringe-worthy and the conversation seemed like it was between school kids pretending to be adults 😳. Not recommended by me 👎 👎. But this is just my opinion, so please feel free to read other reviews and decide for yourself. 🤔
4.5 🌟’s This book is about a couple who were complete opposites but it totally worked! 🥰 👏🏻 Ian Williams is getting ready to graduate college but he has one final project to do before he can graduate with his psychology degree. He’s been assigned to a community outreach program designed to get prison inmates acclimated to living outside the prison. Things didn’t go quite as planned for Ian. 😱😂 In walked Nico who had no interest in this program, he only wanted to count down the weeks until he was released. That was until he meet Ian, who dressed in his very professional outfit which included a very dapper bow tie. Nico made it his mission to get under Ian’s skin and shock the hell out of him with his dirty talk to get the blushes he loved on Ian. I almost felt sorry for Ian because he just didn’t know how to take Nico. Nico was a tattoo bad boy who made him feel things he’d never felt before and it just made him confused and a little embarrassed because he also loved it but felt it was so wrong to be turned on by it. 🔥 What a truly enjoyable and entertaining read and hilarious at times too! 🤗😂 At first I wasn’t sure I was going to like Nico because he was such an alpha type but he totally grew on me. He reminded me of a pit bull 🤣, very bossy but also very protective and loyal of who he claims to be his. Ian was it for Nico and there was no other option but for him to go after what was his! I am looking forward to reading more from this author duo and seeing where this series takes us, we met many different characters and I can’t wait for their stories! 🤗
I had a feeling going in that I shouldn’t expect much — it’s a 100 page insta romance. But that’s not even the problem.
The possessiveness, the mine mine MINE every other phrase, just turned what could’ve been a sweet and quick little read to a quick but cringey one. It wasn’t exactly bad, I guess, but I didn’t feel a connection between the MCs and same for the smut. It was all bland and flavorless. So even if the blurb for book two sounds interesting, I’m not going to pick it up.
“I’m going to make you feel so good, you’ll forget your own name.”
CW and NSFW info (spoilers): - Mentions of past domestic abuse & murder (off page) - Mention of parental death (past, off page) - Size difference - MC w/ tattoos - Virgin MC - Top/bottom - Semi-public sex - Coming hands-free - Frotting
Content Warnings for book: Incarceration, toxic jealousy, controlling and abusive behavior
Kink: N/A
This gains one star for new to me writing so I was engaged, and a half star that the smut was like, okay?
Anyway. This book is super toxic and it's not really marked as such. If this said "a dark, but low-angst romance", then I could turn a blind eye to a lot of this. However, that's not really what happened here. There is toxic jealousy (how dare you ask Nico about his best friend, he's another man!), and abusive behavior (using connections with a cop to stalk and find out information about Ian). It is permeated throughout the book and honestly, I don't make this criticism often, but I felt like I was reading a bad MF book (with 'betrayed by my body' tropes, weird 'alpha possessive caveman' archetype, and the picket fence and two kids ending), that subbed in a twink for the FMC. It's not great.
Also, I noticed how Ian's career never advanced. He settled down with his two kids after meeting Nico, but, I wouldn't be surprised if he failed his thesis for his PhD. After all, his project about prisoner-to-real-life transition absolutely failed because he never did anything for Nico. Maybe talked to him for ten minutes tops? And not about his resources to transition from being in prison.
So, if you wanna read something bad but vaguely entertaining, sure..? But it's not great.
Read this in one sitting. I love love love the possessiveness from the get go just what i need at the moment low angts insta love and so much over the top possessiveness 😛😛 this book made me feel lonely I want someone like nico I my life.
I haven’t read many MM books and I’m not sure why. This was full of growly alpha male goodness.
-no cheating -no om drama -no violence of a sexual nature -Ian was a virgin/ no mention of Nico’s past -opposites attract -safe - no others after meeting -great epilogue 10 years out
"The first thing I plan to do, when I’m released, is find Ian. He may not know it yet, but he’s mine, and I will take what’s mine."
This was a short over-the-top alpha, growly, obsessive, possessive insta love story. It is exactly what you'd expect from a series called He's Mine . However, did I eat it right up? Yes, I did. Honestly, there is no real depth to the story, but I loved the found family aspect and how protective Nico is of Ian.
The sex was hot and steamy. I always enjoy a story with a virgin MC and ex-con, so that was a plus. Now would Nico be considered insane? Should Ian have a bit more self-preservation before just going along with it? Yes to both.
Overall it was a short fast paced streamy read. The other characters and couples, which I assume will have their own books, have been introduced, so I will check out the rest of this series. It was a nice read in between heavier/longer books.
Do not go in for the plot, but if you can shut off your brain and enjoy the ride and OTT alpha/possessive insta love is your jam, you'll enjoy it.
This book had almost no plot. A social worker who walks into a prison and the prisoner declares he’s his. My favorite line was when he said that he’d be crazy not to be afraid of Nico and then said he wasn’t afraid. This wasn’t just instant love, but instant possession. Nico was such a caveman and Ian was such milk toast it was truly ridiculous.
This was so ridiculous!!!! If you want something short, with no plot just lots of sex and ott-possessive-hero, then dig in! “My seed stays right here. I want to be able to see it dripping down your thighs. Now sleep cariño, you’re going to need your rest.” What can i say? I was in a mood...
She’ll probably be thrilled I’ve decided to settle down. I’m not sure I should let her know since Ian doesn’t even know he’s mine yet. .............
This story was ridiculous and amusingly enjoyable. Nico laid his eyes on Ian, and then instincts kicked him in the head that Ian was his.
Nico acted like He had planned for the wedding and planning his future with Ian, but Ian literally had no motherfucking idea that he belonged to Nico or whatsoever.
Nico was single-minded when it came to things he craved. No one touched what was his. It was like he ambushed Ian and when Ian realized what was going on, he had no say in it but complied *happily*
It was stupidly and weirdly entertaining.
"we’ve been together since the moment I laid eyes on you.” - Nico
I'm pretty sure I've just fallen into the rabbit hole. Not that I mind, though. It was so OTT that I just want to suspend disbelief about everything. I just want to enjoy it. I guess I approve of this brain candy.
Well, the idea for this story is quite usable. The characters are also well invented. The possessiveness by Nico is wonderful. But the book is just bad. That's all I can say about it, it wasn't even good enough for me to get angry about the book, I just didn't care for it ... 🥱
Anybody looking for a no angst, insta, alpha story should be happy to read this book. It is definitely OTT at times, but right up my alley! I love a good alpha story, and I was honored to be given an ARC for this book. However, my review is based off the finished copy. I didn't give this a 5 star review because as a debut novel, there is always room for growth. Also, I am saving my 5 for the rest of the series. I know there will be a fave couple in my future.
Thanks to the author for the ARC! I am looking forward to reading the next one!
This was a nice little debut read. We get the warning right from the start that this is an insta-love possessive caveman. And I am here for it. Look, would I want my own partner to be so possessive that someone can’t even touch my shoulder? Nope. But when Nico does it to Ian? It’s super hot. That’s why we have books. To live vicariously through.
Nico was super hot and growly. Ian was adorable and sweet. These two were wonderful together.
I enjoyed this book from start to finish and can’t wait to read Ethan and Knox’s book. I’m so glad I stumbled upon this recommendation.
3.5/5-Good read. Very sweet. I like more alphatype heroes, but it was still pretty good. I do like how he was all about Ian from the beginning. The authors did fix a lot of the editing issues, so the second read was better than the first. Will be looking for the next.
Such a funny read. I was definitely entertained by the possessive, dominant, alpha caretaker role that Nico takes up. Nico was charged with five years of prison due to the involuntary manslaughter of his abusive father. Ian was a psychology student who was assigned to help Nico to return back to society after his release (not that Nico needs it since he already owns a motor repair shop). Highly recommended if you are just up for a short read that has low angst, insta love and a possessive alpha that keeps saying He's Mine!
I wanted to like it so much based on the blurb but I need a connection. When Nico asked Ian if he trusts him - they don’t even know each other people WTF - and then Ian says yes, I was out. I wanted to stop a couple times before the 50% mark but hung in there...hoping...but nope. Not for me.
So I really wanted to like this book way more then I did, I mean come on cute bow tie wearing twink falls in love with an ex-con, the story should write itself. But there were some major issues. *Spoilers!* 1.)Over half way thru the book and Nico while is all mine, mine, mine. The MC's have had app 5mins worth of interaction time before Ian runs off, and the last one we didn't even get to read about it was just matter of fact. Also the whole set up while good in theory...wasn't detailed enough. They'd have known Nico didn't need this type of program, plus Ian would have known what Nico was in for so he could actually agree to deal with a murderer. 2.)I almost DNF at 46% because it was like the aauthor was building couples with EVERYONE! Just do one at a time, Knox and Ethan, let it flow naturally. 3.)Why is there a volunteer walking around unsupervised in the prison handng out books? Warden's nephew or not that 100% wouldn't happen. And again another couple built right there, it's too much. 4.)My biggest issue is if any guy, girl, whatever acts like Nico does RUN! It was one red flag after another! It's not cute to yell cause another guy has his hand on your "mine" or to snap at him asking about Knox, or to mention he hasn't been with anyone and you see "red" thinking about it and yell at him. He's allowed to have friends, have a past, have a life outside of yours. And moving the guy in as a "surprise"? WTF! Run Ian, run! Other red flags, to make him go bare without his consent-I know Ian said ok but he was more told then asked. Same with telling him he is marrying you. No, just no. It's not cute, it's not romantic, it's abuse pure and simple. And yes, I know the blurb said possessive males but there is a difference b/w being possessive vs being in an abusive controlling relationship and I just didn't see it here. But 2 stars cause I have to really hate it to give 1 stars and I finished it holding out hope it got better.
I must begin by saying that I can, in no way, take this seriously. It's just too ridiculous. I like some possessive behavior and enjoy the love at first sight trope, but this takes those to extremes.
You've got Nico claiming Ian then Knox is introduced who claims Ethan then there's a brief scene of a Javier setting his sights on a Liam as Nico gets released from prison. By the time the warden walks Nico out and meets Nico's mom, I am literally howling with laughter. All I could think is OMG STAHP! Apparently every guy, except the A hole guard, that crosses Nico's path is now finding their own soulmate, so Nico is either Cupid or an Oprah of love. You're getting a mate and You're getting a mate and YOU'RE GETTING A MATE!
I was seeing memes and hearing cartoon sound effects as I read this. I could hear the boi-oi-oing spring effect any time Nico met a new guy and that guy laid eyes on a random fella who was obviously their person.
Honestly, it's kind of bad, but I love it and am totally getting the next one. Because, regardless of the author's intent, I laughed so much at this. It genuinely entertained me, for better or worse.
Instalove plots aside, I do want to say that the author wrote this well. There weren't any glaring grammar issues and it was a quick, easy read. It kept me focused so I was really able to read it in a single sitting, which is a great plus for me trying to reach my reading goal as the end of the year is 4 days away.
Wow! This book was amazing! Thanks a lot, Lorraine, for recommending me this wonderful book!
In this book, we’re introduced to Nick and Ian. Ian has a project, to take part in an outreach program for inmates close to release and he’s supposed to help Nick out.
Nick was such a drool-worthy, dirty -talking, possessive alpha hero!! He was everything I want in my heroes and so much more! He may have a hard exterior, but in reality he was a big softie! He fiercely protected those he loved, and from the moment he saw Ian, he knew he was his.
"You came in here all buttoned up and pure, unsullied. And all I could think about was that I wanted to mess you up and watch you come undone. You know I’m never one to mix words. I say what I want and take what I want. And you, Ian West, are mine. Forever."
Ian and Nick were so adorable together! I loved how they supported each other and how their relationship progressed. The side characters were all amazing and I cannot wait to read more about the other couples – ‘Javier and Liam’ and ‘Knox and Ethan’ and ‘Eric and Avory’ I’m honestly so excited to read about them!!
"Mi amor, you are my world. I love you more than I have ever loved anything or anyone in my life. Yu are the air I breathe, the light to my dark. I want everyone to know yu belong to me always. You’re going to marry me"
I was looking for something fluffy and/or lighter to read and happened upon this series. One of the reviews mentioned how everyone was imprinting on everyone in the first book, and I was like, "Welp, I'm in."
Spoiler Alert: That reviewer told no lies! 😆
Nico and Ian are ridiculously cute, confused at times (Ian), and sincere all of the time (Nico). Plus, there is chemistry and spice.
Cute, short read, with a straight-forward plot. I will definitely continue reading the series.
Notable Quotes:
[Nico about Ian]
He giggles, and I am again reminded how lucky I am to have found my perfect match. This beautiful, sweet man took a chance on me, and I’ll do everything I can to be worthy of him. I don’t think he realizes this is forever, but he will. I’m not going anywhere, and neither is he. ++++++++++++++++
[Ian to Nico]
He smiles at me. “Somehow, I think you will always be a distraction whether you’re here or not.”
I lean over the counter and place a quick kiss on his lips. “D@mn straight.” That causes him to let out a giggle.
This was bad. HOWEVER, i would not hesitate to read more from this author and would certainly continue the series.
This was a low angst, insta-love novella featuring an adorable virgin and super alpha male. Very very VERY insta-love. I actually enjoyed that. I liked nico and ian alot and wish i got more of them in this story.
What i hated: in dialogue translations. Bilingual characters are hard, i get that. I appreciate that pet names and short phrases would be commonly slipped into conversation but what irritated the heck out of me is that they translated it in the same sentence. Nope. If you speak spanish, and you are talking to someone else who speaks spanish and you are speaking english for the sake of it being a book you wouldnt translate it. Its unnatural and it killed the flow of the dialogue.
Bottom line. I liked this book alot. And really want more. But fix that nonsense!
How do you rate something so bad it’s kinda funny? This reads like fanfiction. It hits a few troupes so hard it feels almost self mocking.
First off, the instant love thing. Not just the paroled prisoner (Nico) and the boy helping him to adjust to civilian life (Ian). But Nico’s best friend (Knox) & Ian’s roommate (Ethan). AND Nico’s Mom (Ana) and his former warden (John Teague). Nico’s high school friend who is now a coach (Eric) and the football player that Ian was tutoring (Avery). The warden’s nephew who was handing out books at the prison (Liam) and another prisoner about to be paroled (Javier). Seriously, heart shaped eyes everywhere. 😍
I’ll admit, I liked Nico’s growly come-ons at the prison, but the way Ian follows along like a puppy once Nico’s out stretched my imagination a bit too far.
And the rules and regulations even for a minimum security prison seemed incredibly lax.
I actually think this book should be required reading in schools so that teenagers know what is NOT healthy in a relationship.
Nico is uber possessive of Ian AFTER MEETING HIM ONE TIME IN WHICH THEY EACH EXCHANGED ONE SENTENCE.
Immediately, Nico is claiming Ian. Wanting to get out of prison to be with Ian. Wanting to take care of Ian. SIR, IAN DOESN’T EVEN KNOW YOU LIKE THAT.
Nico gets pissed because Ian’s professor is a man???? What???? In WHAT WORLD?? In. What. WORLD.
Ian asks about Nico’s friend Knox because he recognizes him as someone whose been FOLLOWING HIM (at the request of Nico) and all Nico has to say is “Why are you asking me about another man?” WHAT THE FUCKITY FUCK FUCK?
This book was absolutely ridiculous and dangerous and scary. So many red flags, so much underlying abuse in the name of “love”.
FIRST REACTION: This story was rather short which is probably the only reason I finished it. The book had good bones, it just didn't read well.
POV: Dual
PACE: Instalove to the max, including all side characters finding their partners in this book as well.
SETTING: Prison & H's House (one town)
STEAM: 2/5
KINK: No
MAINS: -I had a problem with the H's personality. I get he was supposed to be this big dominant person, but had he not went to jail for what he did, I would've thought he would eventually get violent with his partner. It just read like the wrong type of possessive. -h read as passive, rather then submissive, cute bookish nerd with no real backbone.
SIDE CHARACTERS: obvious setup for more books in the series due to all their friends finding partners, but I have no intention of reading more.
If I had read this book first, I would have never touched another book in this series so it’s fortunate I started with Stalked.
I read over 300 books every year and it has been years since I have disliked a main character as much as Nico. At no point does he show any consideration for Ian. The way he instantly dismisses Ian’s work and focuses on his physical attraction is so disheartening and it does not improve.
With the way the set up was so similar to Stalked I was sure I’d enjoy this but the character development was not there.
I am really sad to give this book such a low score. I will try another book in the series before I call it quits since I enjoyed Stalked so much.
I thought it would be a bit of quirky fun, some back and forth between Ian and Nico, where Nico does his best to woo the shy and naive Ian.
But no, that is not what happens. And I managed to keep reading until Nico's mom was all like "Go get him." The man who kept fleeing from the room as soon as Nico played cave man.
I like books with possession but at least make me work for it, don't just throw it in my face the moment I open the book.
I'm sure there are some hotness further in to the book, but it's lacking plot and my brain is turning to mush way before that.
Ok so I read Played yesterday and had to go back to get everyone else’s stories just because.
Ian is getting ready to graduate with his Master’s in Psychology but before he can do that he must complete his final project, helping an inmate about to be released from prison. All he wants to do is finish up and graduate but after meeting Nico he knows his life is about to change forever.
I’m not normally a fan of the insta love reads but I’ll occasionally read them and so far I’m loving what I’ve read by these authors and I’m looking forward to more. 🖤🔥🎓🔥🖤
LOL, was this a *good* book? It definitely had some problematic things, and I still fucking loved it 🤣 Why? Because an unapologetic disregard for consent and a caveman approach to possessive "you and only you" instalove is hard to find with the current crop of M/M, and this one had just enough plot to keep it from PWP status, and it was FUN! Would I go for that shit IRL? Of course not. Do I adore it in fiction! Absolutely 🤣🤣🤣
