This book guides hikers through 24 national forests, 34 wilderness areas, 7 national parks, plus numerous other parks recreation areas. It offers extensive trail descriptions, tips on planning, and up-to-date natural and human history of the trail.
The information is excellent, but I wanted to leave this one star review to warn other people who may be purchasing the book for the maps, which are atrocious. The back said the maps are worth $500 alone. I’m sorry, they are worth nothing to me. You’d think they would have at least marked the PCT in some way that made it stand out, but nope, just a black line. Again, if you’re buying this for the text and have other sources of maps, go for it. But just don’t buy this expecting the maps to be useful.
Excellent info about the trail. The entire set is essential for anyone planning to hike the PCT. I just wish there were annual updates like travel guides, as conditions and details change from year to year. For anyone heading out I also recommend finding halfmile's spreadsheets, which have meticulous notes on each mile and important details about resupplies.
