Unfortunately, none of the men I’ve met can measure up to my ideal.
But when I hire a carpenter to do some work in my bakery, I start to see things differently.
Reece Murphy is a blue-collar working man—not at all what I thought I wanted.
He’s strong and sexy with a big beard and even bigger muscles.
Can I look past his rough exterior and see the good man beneath before it’s too late?

Reece
As a carpenter, it’s my job to build things.
The only thing I’ve given up on building is a relationship with a woman.
That’s why my work is where I put my heart.
When I’m contracted by a local baker, it seems simple enough.
But Cleo Boulanger is anything but simple.
She’s curvy, classy, and makes me want to taste her croissants.
Before the job is done, I’m determined to have my cake and eat it, too.

All I can say is ...AWWWWW...this was so sweet and cute. It wasn't love at first sight but it eventually grew from mutual respect, then friendship with laughs. then dating with kisses...to something real special. Cleo wanted a soul mate after her awful divorce and in walked Reece into her life. Reece didn't think he was worthy of someone but Cleo worked her way into his heart and changed his outlook on love and relationships. They were a great fit and it goes to show don't judge a book by its cover...you could find something special and wonderful just for you if you just try it out. I really like this story and enjoyed these two wonderful people's journey to their HEA.

Short and sweet

Every woman who has experienced what her ex did to her, after the healing, wants her soulmate. And Reece learning if you really want a chance, you need to take a chance. It was a good story, just nothing to make it stand out from all the other short and 🧁 sweets. There's no cheating or cliffhanger and you get a happy ever after. Enjoy 🤓

They may come from two different worlds but they mix together to perfection

Just Desserts is the first book in the Just Desserts series and is the story of Cleo Boulanger and Reece Murphy.
Cleo is the owner of Just Desserts Cafe and Bakery. She has always loved to bake, especially in times of stress or when she needed to forget things. So when her divorce was done she poured all her money into starting a the bakery. Initially she was the only person working but now after a couple of years, and expanding into the store front next door she has a staff of several bakers and more front staff. Cleo loves what she does and has plans for taking the bakery across the country. But what Cleo needs right now are some new display cases that fit with the esthetic that she has in the store.
Reece leads a residential construction crew building homes for other people. But on the side he has a company, RM Furniture and Designs, as he wants to be a furniture maker full time. His dreams is to open a store where he can sell what he makes and support himself with it. He has designed some new display cases for Cleo and is determine to get this job. So after he gets off work he drives to her bakery to meet with her. But just as he is getting to the door a women flips the sign from open to closed. Undettered, or determined, he tries to get in and when she says no he puts the sketch up to the glass to show her. After looking at it and him she lets him in and they discuss what she wants and how long it will take. After giving her a quote Cleo agrees and they have an agreement.
Cleo and Reece are both attracted to each other but each thinks the other would not want them. Reece is used to women having fun with him and then leaving for something better or more stable. Cleo has not dated since she was divorced. Her ex looked good on paper but then he cheated on her repeatedly until he finally left her for a young woman he was about to marry. So what would a large, built, sexy man like Reece want with her. But as the job goes on they grow closer together until the inevitable happens and she ends up literally falling into his arms and he catches her. But that is not the end as there are still bumps in the road to a HEA for these two as they do come from different worlds and have to show that together they can fit into each others. After all he is used to gas station burritos and coffee for breakfast and she is used to freshly baked pastries, breads, jams and pressed coffee for breakfast.

I really enjoyed Just Desserts. It is a deliciously sweet and filling book with a well written and entertaining story-line. The characters are nicely developed and have a great balance. Plus the food fight scene was so much fun to read, even when her ex shows up. Cleo finally took her power back from him and Reece made sure she was supported, plus he showed the ex exactly what he was missing. It was the icing on the cake. Well actually that is the wonderful epilogue that will put a smile on your face and make your heart do a few flips of joy.

Just Desserts, Book 1 of the Just Desserts series, was about Cleo Boulanger, the owner of the Just Desserts bakery, and Reece Murphy, the owner of RM Furniture Designs.

Side Note: There were no ages given for either of the two main characters. The only hint of anyone's age was when Cleo mentioned something about 10-15 years earlier "when I was young and eager to please". So she had to be at least 25-30. Reece's age was never mentioned either, nor was there any hint as to whether or not he was older or younger than Cleo.

Cleo had been divorced from her cheating ex for at least two years and had started her business with the divorce settlement. She was in the process of renovating her bakery and was looking to hire a skilled contractor to do the majority of the work. All of the men she had interviewed wanted her to cave to their ideas and didn't want to do anything her way, so she kept turning down their offers. Then Reece appeared and went with what she showed him needed to be done.

This was a very fast-paced story that went straight to the point, took no deviations, and had little to no plot. It was bland, boring, and had very little angst, a tiny bit of drama, and was just not as enjoyable as it could have been.

While both main characters were well-developed and mature, there was nothing to make either of them stand out and shine as a "hero" or "heroine". They were just okay. While neither of them was rich (they were both blue-collar workers), that wasn't what kept them from shining. They were just poorly written with little to nothing attractive about them. Nothing about them caught the attention of the reader and said, "Look at me...I'm the perfect book boyfriend/girlfriend". I only gave this a two-star rating because it was just so boring. In fact, it was so bad that I don't think I will be reading the other five books in the series. There was nothing that created a desire or need in me to follow through to the end of the series.

Cleo started her cafe and bakery after her divorce and her business was booming but she didn’t have much of a personal life so her friends took her to a psychic who drew a picture of her handsome soulmate that the psychic saw in her visions. Cleo wanted to add a new display case but was having trouble finding someone to build it to her ideas until Reece stopped by and drew up a plan she liked. Reece looked scruffy with a long beard and he was just starting his custom woodworking while doing construction work by day. Both Reece and Cleo were attracted to one another but Cleo noticed that he didn’t look the psychic’s picture of her soulmate. Reece loves that she is charming and funny and Cleo likes him but she is scared to trust and be hurt again. Will Cleo be able to forget her fears and trust Reece to find happiness?

I give this story 4.5 stars.I enjoyed this short instalove story where Cleo learned to trust her feeling and not be bound by a picture of her supposed ideal man. The story was well written and you got to see their feeling and why they acted as they did. The epilogue was a great conclusion to their story.
I received an ARC from the author and I voluntarily leave this review.

Just Desserts is the first book in C.L. Cruz’s Just Desserts series. In this initial installment, Ms. Cruz introduces her readers to two likeable characters—Cleo Boulanger and Reece Murphy. Both suffer from broken hearts. Hers was broken by her husband when he cheated on her. Their divorce was messy. She focuses her energies on the running of her bakery, Sweet Desserts. Reece also has a broken heart. He had a series of unsuccessful romances leaving him with a feeling of unworthiness. Destiny brings these two together. They slowly let down the walls they resurrected around their lonely hearts. But will Fate let their romantic journey be a smooth or bumpy one? You must read this book to discover what happened.

Yet again, Ms. Cruz pens a delightful holiday romance. I enjoy her use of dialog. The internal monologues between Cleo and Reece made me smile. Especially the scene in her bakery where they engaged in a food fight. Her descriptive scenes, like the sudden appearance of her ex-husband at her bakery and what Reece did. These literary devices helped to draw me into their story making it seem like I was a first-hand witness to their romantic journey. Nicely done, Ms. Cruz!

Soulmate sketch
This book is about Cleo and Reece. She owns and runs the Just Desserts Café and Bakery. He’s runs a construction crew by day, and designs and makes wooden pieces of furniture after hours. That’s his real passion.
Cleo is on the lookout for a new custom-made cabinet for her bakery, and Reece turns up with his sketch and ideas in–hand. He sees her vision and sets out to create just what she needs and wants. During this time, they flirt and realise they share a strong attraction and connection to each other. But he’s not what she envisioned (or had drawn for her by a psychic) for her happily-ever-after. Looks can be deceiving though, and a little change can open your eyes to possibility.
This story is short and sweet and steamy. The characters are a bunch of fun, and really relatable and realistic. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series, and see who catches Cleo’s best friend Felicity’s eye! I give this book four yummy stars.

i read this book as part of an arc program. This is the first book in the Just Desserts series. In this book, Chloe is a baker who is also recently divorced. When Chloe wants to build some custom display cases for her bakery, she meets Reece, a carpenter who also works in construction. Reece is a blue collar guy and has a beard and longer hair. When he sees Chloe, he is instantly attracted to her, but thinks she would never want to be with him, only Chloe likes Reece and finds he is fun to be around. Chloe is waiting for her perfect man and has a picture of him from a psychic who told her he would be her true love. Reece begins to think Chloe is the one, but he hears about her waiting for her perfect man and he thinks Chloe doesn't feel the same about him. I liked this book, I love that Reece and Chloe could laugh together and have fun. I think Chloe really loved Reece and wanted to be with him, regardless of what a psychic told her. I really liked this start to a new series and can't wait for more.

Second chance with the RIGHT one! This is about Cleo and Reece. Cleo is a baker of Just Desserts and is looking for someone to build out her display cases as she is expanding her bakery. Reece is there to show her his designs for the new display cases. Cleo was once married, and it ended when her husband who she thought was perfect ended up cheating on her with a 20-year-old. Reece has never found love until the day he meets Cleo. Reece is your blue collar worker and does magnificent jobs building things with his hands, but Cleo had met a psychic that told her that she would meet Mr. Perfect one day and even described him, well Reece did not fit the image she had of this Mr. Perfect, but she had these feeling that told her otherwise. This was a great story especially as she discovers something at the end – loved it!

Cleo owns Just Deserts a successful business that is expanding. Cleo is divorced and not ready for another relationship. Her best friend Faith reminds her of a psychic prediction she will meet her soulmate. Cleo keeps a drawing of a clean shaved man who will be the one. Reese is a carpenter who presents her with drawings to update Just Desserts, as he's talking she is drawn to him. Could a scruffy bearded man be the one for her? Is the psychic wrong?

I really LOVED this story ❤️❤️ it's a very sweet romance 😉 that left me smiling after I read it. It's got just the right amount of slow burn romance, angst, denial, attraction, that kept me hooked in the story. The story is well written and fast paced Told with dual POVs, with overlapping events, that a characters thoughts feelings and emotions are intimately revealed. The characters are likeable and relatable and compelling to read. There is a HEA!!! Recommended!

Cleo is a divorcee and finally living life on her own terms.  She has opened her own bakery and is thriving.  When she needs some work done in her storefront, Reese shows up with a bid for the work.  Reese not only is does a good job he is a craftsman with his woodworking.  Reese has resolved to live alone but when he meets Cleo, he is having second thoughts.  Can he convince her to take a chance on him?

This is a fun short steamy read.  Cleo is fun, independent, and strong.  Reese is a hardworking loyal man with a heart of gold.  I loved the chemistry between the two and the fun they have together.  Life is too short to live trying to please everyone else at the expense of your own well being and happiness.

This is the 1st book that I have read by C.L. Cruz but it definitely won't be my last! Ms. Cruz has a way of drawing you into her stories from the 1st page to the last with her fantastic storytelling and world building. Her characters are so delicious that you can't help cheer for their happily ever after. In the craziness of this world today, it's a pleasure to escape into a short story that leaves you feeling so good at the end. Reece and Cleo's story is one of not looking for your soul mate but finding them anyway and then having to work to keep them. This story has everything that you could want; comedy, drama, conflict and of course hot romance. You will be sorry if you miss this delightful 1st book in the Just Desserts series.

This was okay.
* Cleo owns her own bakery. She bought it with the money she got from her divorce and she puts all her passion into it.
* Cleo's best friend thinks she should be putting herself out there more, but Cleo isn't really interested until she meets Reece who is building some new display cases for her bakery.

- This was okay, I think saying that only women are allowed to join the franchise is completely out of order though. I don't care that it's supposed to help women, it's totally sexist and in real life a company never agree to that because they would get in big trouble!

Cute sweet steamy fast paced storyline. Love the characters of Cleo and Reece. Cleo is determined to find a man to measure up to her perfect ideals. Her ex was a jerk and she's not going to settle for less. Cleo has a Bakery and cafe is looking for someone to build her some better displays. Reece makes it a little late to show her his designs but shows her through the door and she lets him in. Reece is intrigued with Cleo, as she curvy, classy and sexy. He figures he doesn't have a chance with her. But Cleo is rethinking her idea's of her perfect man. Will Cleo be able to trust Reece or will she be too scared to give Reece a chance? I love the conclusion of Cleo and Reece's story.

Cleo promised herself she would not compromise when it comes to men especially after her nasty divorce. She has promised that this time around will be forever and so far, no man has measured up that is until Reece comes to her shop to bid on making her shelves. There were sparks going off right from the start, but both are skeptical. He knows what women like Cleo may go for a man like him for a short time but hold out for someone more secure and has bigger pockets financially. These two may be insecure but will the time they spend together change each other's mind and have them taking a chance for a happily ever after? I voluntarily agreed to receive an ARC of this book for an honest review.

Loved this sweet (no pun intended) story. It was refreshing not to be reading about an Alpha billionaire. Instead we get a blue collar, hardworking and hot man in the form of Reese Murphy. He's going to build some new displays for Cleo Boulanger's bakery, Just Desserts, and not only does he get the job, but he finds the woman of his dreams. The attraction is reciprocated, even though Cleo is thinking that Reese is definitely not her type. But what the heck, she's divorced and a fling with Reese could be just what the doctor ordered. Reese is biting his time and hoping that Cleo "sees the man" and not just what "she thinks her type of man" is. This is a quick and enjoyable read. Definitely would recommend it.

Cleo has a a store front of desserts. She wants to make some improvements to enlarge her space. She has been interviewing contractors to help built her ideas. Reece is a contractor trying to get the job as Cleo's place. He has the best designs she sees, plus Reece can start ASAP for Cleo. Cleo thinks he's easy on the eyes as well. Reece enjoys going there because he gets to enjoy her food and company. Cleo realizes that Reece is her go to man that she needs since she had a horrible past but with Reece she has a wonderful future.

Just Desserts is a short story by C.L Cruz,, it features Cleo Boulanger, owner and operator of Just Dessert Cafe and Bakery and Reece Murphy, a carpenter.
After her divorce a year ago, Cleo opened her own bakery, but now she needs to expand and find some to build her some cabinet. She places an ad and several carpenters try to push what they want to build, not what she want it to look like, until near closing time when Reece rushes in with what he envision it should look like just what Cleo wants.
As time goes by Reece and Cleo become close, but will Cleo finally get over being scared to trust and fall in love again.

Cleo is a strong business woman who knows what she wants and when Reece shows her the shelving designs for her bakery, she is taken with not only his artistic vision but his enthusiasm. Cleo lets out her playful side with Reece as they get into a food fight at the bakery and when her no good ex shows up, Reece shows him that Cleo has found someone far better than him. Reece loves Cleo’s confections and he shows her just how good he can be with his hands when he gets her to his bedroom. Cleo and Reece work hard for their HEA and the epilogue is sweet.

Two people destined to be together, meet at a bakery as he designs new shelves for her bakery. The characters are fantastic and their backstories round them out nicely. The intense feelings they develop are offset with rich banter as they get to know each other. The locales were perfect and I loved the way they pushed each other toward the goals of doing what they love, in bakeries and woodworking shops. The caring and selflessness was endearing. Only once did they endure miscommunication but they remedied that quickly. Will be rereading this book many times in the future.

Baking up some good love:
Cleo owns a bakery, which she purchased after her divorce. She has decided not to give her heart to the wrong man again. She'll wait for Mr. Right. Reece is a carpenter. He also does woodworking. One thing he doesn't do is relationships. He stays away from that. So when Reece is hired by Cleo to do work for her in her bakery the chemistry is explosive. But they're going to stick to their rules. Or will they? This is a wonderful quick read. And there's an epilogue. I love a book that doesn't leave you hanging. Be sure to grab this book. I recommend this book and this author.

Another great read by a great author. Cleo and Reece meet when he comes to show her his design for her display cases for Just Desserts. You will instantly fall in love with the chemistry between these two characters. When her ex comes back in a picture I love how he stands up for her. When he overhears her talking about him he is heartbroken because he thinks he’s not the one for her but to his surprise he’s a soulmate she’s been looking for. Great ending!
