Harvest Ranch Romance #1

From Best Friend to Husband

Rate this book
If you love fall, you’ll love this romance wrapped in changing leaves, pumpkin decor, hot cocoa, and spicy kisses.

Welcome to Harvest Ranch!

The Fall Festival is upon us—complete with a giant pumpkin growing contests, craft booths, a corn maze with kissing alcoves and so much more.

This is Wynn Westbrook’s first year as a vendor. Her farmhouse style furniture could be the hot item this year—or it could totally flop.

Wynn married her high school sweetheart knowing that he wouldn’t be around to raise their children. She didn’t plan to fall apart after he died; and, she didn’t plan on his older brother picking her up--but he did.

Judd lives next door. He drives the kids to school, makes dinner, and tells the best bedtime stories.

He can also make Wynn’s heart thump with just one touch--which is a distraction she doesn’t need as she works to get her business off the ground.

Can she let go of the life she thought she’d have and embrace a new love?

Or, will she hold to the past and turn away the love of a good man?

You’ll adore this small-town romance full of heart!

Absolutely Adorable!

I read a lot of Christmas books, and summer beach romances. I hadn’t realized I was missing out so much on fall! I loved the magic of the pumpkin festival, the strong family, adorable kids, and stolen kisses. This book was delicious!

Hallmark worthy romance

This book read like a beautiful Hallmark movie, it was funny and clean and just oh so dreamy! I really liked the setting of this book, it felt warm and cozy, the characters were well developed and cute. It’s also super short and can be read in an afternoon. I love how the author draws you in and you feel as if your watching a movie. What a great fun, cute and clean read.

After her high school sweetheart dies, leaving her with two children to raise, Wynn never dreamed her life would be anything but hard. Judd her best friend and brother in law steps in and drives the kids to school, makes dinner and is there to put the kids to bed. He lives next door, but he spends more time at her house than his own. This gives Wynn the time she needs to make beautiful pieces of furniture for the fall festival. Things are going really well for her, some of her items are actually selling and then things get complicated when her feelings for her best friend turn into something more.

Wow! This book should be required reading for men who aspire to get married someday on how to be a great husband. Judd came alongside Wynn when her husband, Judd’s brother, passed away at an early age. Judd looked for ways to be there for his brother’s widow. He assisted with his small niece and nephew, ran carpools, babysat when needed, cooked and cleaned up when she was overwhelmed, etc. and in so doing, they became best friends who loved one another’s company. Then they became best friends who were attracted to one another, whose lives fit together so perfectly. It was a beautiful story of how healthy relationships grow and bloom into romantic relationships that work. And did I mention there were a number of swoony kisses involved? Whew! I loved the whole book and highly recommend it to you! I was entrusted with a copy of the book by the author and this is my voluntary and honest opinion.

This is the perfect story to get you in the mood for fall! I read this one book in one day, I could not put it down! It was so easy to get caught up in Judd and Wynn's sweet love story and all the residents in the charming town of Harvest Ranch. The author's story is full of love, laughter, family and everything fall. You can feel the chill in the air, smell the chocolate, taste the pumpkin cocoa and see the festive decorations all while reading this wonderful book. It will leave you with a smile on your face and in your heart! Looking forward to the next one. Read it, you will not be disappointed.

Learning To Love Again

Oh! Leave it to Miss Lucy to write about an amazing family again! Everyone, has given of themselves more than most and love just pours out of this family!

Wynn is a widower and single mom. She loves her children and relies heavily on her husband's family. Her brother in- law is always around to help out.

Judd loves taking care of his niece, nephew and sister in law after his brother's death. They do everything together. He wants to date Wynn and marry her. He just doesn't know how to go about things and is unsure if it is even acceptable.

Lots of emotions and turmoil inside. I have a new favorite line, " I am always and forever will be on my grandchildren's side". I belly laughed at this because most grandmothers believe this ~

This was one of those rare books for me. The kind that you just want to keep reading. And beyond that, you want to crawl into the story and live there. I was so sad when I finished it. But…there are more coming, so that’s okay.

Wynn is such a great character. She’s the kind that you can picture yourself knowing and being friends with. Wynn seems to be everyone’s friend in the book. And she’s kind of clueless about Judd. I really loved the way she was with her kids. She’s such a great mom, and recognizes that she can’t do it all on her own.

Judd is such a great guy! He’s Wynn’s brother-in-law, her husband died a few years before the book starts. But Wynn and Judd have been best friends since way before that. I love that they had a history. And neither of them were planning to ever be anything more than brother-in-law and sister-in-law. Life has a way of changing the best laid plans.

I loved the plot of this one. And the fall theme! Sigh…it’s perfect!

I had great expectations for this opening story for a new series by Lucy McConnell based on the numerous five-star review awards I have given her in the past. However, even though it was a central element to the story, Ms. McConnell at no point reveals any details of the disease that eventually claimed the life of Wynn’s husband. We know that Thatcher’s disease was evident well before he married Wynn and that he survived long enough to bring two delightful children into this world. Although it would be likely that the disease may have been hereditary in nature, Ms. McConnell simply fails to address the issue. Neither does she make a good case as to why Wynn would marry a man and begin a family when she knew he had a terminal disease. All the way through the story I kept looking for Ms. McConnell to address these issues, but she never does. Not addressing these issues greatly detracted from an otherwise well-told story.

I love Lucy's books, and this one was no exception. I want to visit Harvest Ranch! It was so satisfying to read about all of the characters there and the darling fall festival. But my favorite part was the romance. The story of Wynn and Judd was so sweet and absolutely melted me. Can't wait to read more in this series!

3.5 stars…Sweet story. Loved Judd, the kids and the entire family. Wynn was a little harder to love especially closer to the end but she was tolerable. Clean, quick read.

Good start to a series

The autumn-themed series (by multiple authors) kicks off with the sweet romance of a widow and her very helpful brother-in-law. Years after her husband has died we find Wynn in a good place: she's starting her own business, her young kids are doing well in school, and her husband's family is incredibly supportive--especially his older brother Judd. Judd spends more time at Wynn's house than he does his own, the perks of being her best friend. Everyone but them can see they're in love, but not everyone is happy about it. Wynn has no desire to marry again, but will an unexpected kiss unravel her life or enrich it?
Overall, I enjoyed the romance and sighed a few times over how cute they were together, but the book fell just a little short emotionally for me. The readers aren't given many details about her marriage except that her husband wasn't expected to live past thirty and it was hard to understand her complete aversion to remarriage without more details. But the story focuses more on the present and future than the past, which was an understandable decision--I just wished to see more open communication between the couple as her feelings changed about marriage. The lack of communication made it hard to see them surviving as a couple in the long run. It was a sweet romance of moving past surviving to thriving and it introduced a family I definitely want to read more about.

LOOOOOOVED!!!

I loved this book so much! I actually had a hard time writing this review because I didn't really know what to say besides "I loved it!" and "You need it!" LOL

It was just one of those books that everyone should at least read once.

First I loved the concept. Second I loved the way Lucy executed the concept.

The characters were fantastic the cute little town was wonderful and in a way magical. It is just a town that is so peaceful which is interesting because to make it peaceful for me there usually needs to be a ocean near by but this town didn't even need the ocean.

Wynn and Jud are just so perfect together! Jud is like the perfect husband and man that every woman wants to marry! He already acts like her husband and the kids' dad before he even dates Wynn. I just love that! I loved seeing them basically have a married relationship and a healthy one at that. It was beautiful to see that in a story!

Romance Content: making out

This was originally a review I had written because I got the book on KU but I found it on Booksprout where Lucy wanted Amazon, Goodreads, and Boobub reviews. Well, I had only posted it to Goodreads and Bookbub because I only do ARCs on Amazon. I did also beef up the review because since it is now an ARC review I like to make it worth the their while. So.....

I received a copy via Booksprout and am leaving an honest review.

3.5 rounded up to a 4

I struggled with this book. It is a well-written and charming story. I adored the children. I liked the male MC, Judd more than the female MC, Wynn. Something about Wynn just never gelded with me and I found her annoying at times, I can't say what it is. Judd was just written with a more loving stroke. It almost seemed as if the author felt a deeper connection to Judd and so his voice rang out louder.

My biggest issue with this book is I'm not a fan of the siblings sharing a love thing. I really am not. It grosses me out. I forced myself to read this book because I want to read other books in this series. My problem was that even though I found it disturbing, I still liked the characters.

Judd is such an adorable dork. Who wouldn't love him? He is steadfast and loyal. He's an amazing father figure to those children and such a good friend to Wynn. Judd carries this book and he's the reason I didn't lower the rating even more. In spite of my issues with Wynn being the wife of his deceased brother and that I never connected to Wynn, Judd kept me interested and invested in their story.

I wanted HIM to get his HEA. He chose Wynn and the children so I wanted that for him. I'm glad that he got his family in the end.

Clean romance with no sex and swearing.

What first caught my eye about this book was the absurd cover. Tiny people? Enormous swing on very short chains? How are they ever going to get down from there??

But somehow I’ve arrived at a part of my life where a super-sappy sweet romance novel seemed like it might not make me sad anymore—maybe even the opposite. And this book definitely delivered. It’s so sweet, it’s almost too sweet, but instead it’s just sweet.

Also, I’m noticing that a dear man who swoops in and picks up your slack/always has your back/does the dishes and laundry for you is a far more enticing fantasy than anything else I’ve ever read in a romance novel.

Also, this author has managed to solve the biggest problem I’ve always had with romance novels: they usually stop as soon as the couple gets together, so you don’t get to enjoy experiencing them as a couple. But in this book, they’re already together from the beginning. I liked that so much.

I generally don’t read straight romance novels—or, if I do, I judge them heavily while I do. But this one, I just enjoyed. Good job, author!

This was so sweet and so wonderful. I’m still feeling a little choked up over how very special that ending was. Wynn is a pretty special woman. Her kids are kind of awesome too. And Judd is, quite simply, what book boyfriend fantasies are made of. I was so invested in seeing this little family pull it all together and make it work. They have a bit of an uphill climb to get there, but together, they can do anything.

Adulting meant putting herself out there, and she hadn’t done that-yet. Well, she was doing it now.

Looking at him wasn’t so bad if he wasn’t looking back, but when their eyes met, strange things happened inside of her-things like butterflies and nerves, tongue ties and cravings.

By the time Saturday night rolled around, Wynn was ready for a bubble bath with a diet soda and her Kindle.

“Is that…Butterbeer?” she asked, intrigued.
He handed her a cup that had a wand and a magical talking hat on the side. “Yes, ma’am.”
Her eyes danced. The five dollars a pop was worth it to see her smile like that. She took a tentative sip and then sank into her seat with a look of pure satisfaction. “It’s even better than I’d hoped.”
He took a drink, letting the flavors mellow over his tongue. “Not bad.”
“You’d like it more if you read the books.” She got up and continued drinking as she looked over the booth to see if anyone needed her attention.
“I fail to see how reading can improve my sense of taste.”
“Then you’ll always be a Muggle.”

He grabbed her around the waist and nuzzled his nose into her neck. “Have I ever told you you’re cute when you’re bossy?”
Breathless with giggles, she shoved against his hold. “I must be downright irresistible ninety percent of the time, then.”
“You have no idea.”

“That wasn’t how I planned that to go.”
“Oh? You mean you didn’t want to get us kicked out of Aunt Michelle’s shop? ‘Cuz that was epic. You know she’s going to call our moms.”
Wyatt chuckled. “That’s all I need. One more female breathing down my neck.”
Nothing like getting in trouble together to dissolve angst between two rivals.

“Every person is different, and love is the product of the chemistry between them. So there are infinite possibilities for love throughout the world.”

Life without Judd was a life without color-even fall colors.

The Fall Festivals is upon us-complete with a giant pumpkin growing contests, craft booths, a corn maze with kissing alcoves and so much more.
Wynn Westbrook will finally have her own booth this year at the festivals. Her farmhouse style furniture could be the hot item this year-or it could totally flop.
Wynn married her high school sweetheart knowing that he wouldn’t be around to raise their children. She didn’t plan to fall apart after he died; and she didn’t plan on his older brother picking her up-but he did.
Judd lives next door. He drives the kids to school, makes dinner, and tells the best bedtime stories.
He can also make Wynn’s heart thump with just one touch-which is a distraction she doesn’t need as she works to get her business off the ground.
Can she let go of the life she thought she’d have and embrace a new love?
Or, will she hold to the past and turn away the love of a good man?

A nice way to get into the autumn season. I have been trying to find the right book that has the setting of autumn to start September with and this book sounded like the right one. I totally enjoyed the book. The setting was great. Judd and Wynn’s friendship and relationship was fun to read about. And Wynn’s kids are freaking adorable. I definitely want to know more about Judd’s family, especially Brodie. I definitely want to take a trip to Harvest Ranch. 3.75 stars.

🛡️🛡️ONE SWEET LITTLE TREAT🛡️🛡️
Fantastic! Lucy unleashes one thrilling little number with all the feels, frills and spills, weaving a cocoon around you so intricately and precise, drawing you deeper into this tangled web until everything else ceases to exist, wrapping this baby up sleek, shiny and tight. Observing the arduous trials and hard fought triumphs, noting the dramatic twists and wicked turns, testing our characters in ways they could have never envisioned. Coiled, combined and tightly coupled, displaying the soaring ups and agonizing downs, breathtaking in it's simplicity and impressive in it's depth, putting our characters through their paces. The attraction and chemistry grows as each layer is peeled back exposing intense affection, binding them to one another perfectly. The characters, interactions and charged atmosphere along with qualities and traits that add depth and diversity, transform into genuine charismatic personalities. The scenes are abundantly descriptive with colorful details that blend and flow, creating a majestic backdrop that's so rich and lively it feels as though you were transported to ground zero with them. Remarkable job Lucy, thanks for sharing this little jewel with us.

From Best Friend to Husband is book one in the Harvest Ranch Romance by Lucy McConnell. Wynn Westbrook knew that when she married her husband and had two beautiful children, he would not see them grow to adulthood. Wynn Westbrook thought she would be able to cope when her husband finally died. However, that did not happen, but with her brother-in-law Judd's support, she kept going and started her new furniture business, which Wynn will finally show to the public at Harvest Ranch Fall Festival. Will Wynn allow her best friend Judd to become more for her and her children? The readers of From Best Friend to Husband will continue to follow Wynn and Judd to discover what happens.

From Best Friend to Husband is an enjoyable book to read on a wet and cold Sunday afternoon. I engaged with the characters and the story from the first page. I love Lucy McConnell's portrayal of her characters and how they intertwine throughout this book. From Best Friend to Husband is well-written and researched. I also like Lucy McConnell's description of the settings, which complemented the book's plot.

Readers of From Best Friend to Husband will learn how to make wooden furniture and the importance of having family around you when things go wrong.

I recommend this book.

Healing the Family . . .

Wynn and Judd are likable characters who seem so innocent. Wynn Westbrook is a single mom now whose husband had died young from a lingering illness. She wraps her love around her children and is emotionally supported by her husband's family.

Her brother-in-law, Judd, who lives next door, does everything he can to help her out with the children and spends lots of time with them. He drives the kids to school for her, makes dinner, and tells the best bedtime stories to the children. But he is unsure whether it would be okay to date Wynn or even ask her to marry him. And he doesn’t know how to find out. Will Wynn let go of the past and make room to love someone else? Will she realize how much Judd cares for her and the kids?

This is such a sweet story with so much love and family. Grab your copy and see how things work out for all of them.

Lucy McConnell has written a heart-warming saga of family loyalties, set in the small town of Harvest Ranch, and featuring strong characters with Christian beliefs. The mixed feelings of a young widow who is trying to decide the best future for herself and her children in contrast with the doubts and guilt of the man who loves her makes this a book that was difficult to put down.
Wynn has been left with 2 small children after the death of her husband. Her in-laws have taken her under their wing, with Judd, her brother-in-law, taking on the role of assisting Wynn in caring for the children. Although they acknowledge their feelings to themselves, guilt and doubt prevent them from taking the next step up from friendship.

With cooler temps this week and the hint of fall, this was the perfect book to read right now.
Surrounded with love from her deceased husbands family, life is just fine for Wynn. That is fine until her deceased husbands brother, Judd, starts looking different to her. Judd has always been there for her and the children. Everyone but them could tell they have been in love with each other. But, Wynn is worried about being married again, and Judd is worried about what others think. Especially Wynn.
Will this relationship work?

I enjoyed this book. It was a quick read, a great happy ending romance.

I received an advanced readers copy of this book, but my comments and opinions are my own.

Fun Fall story - pumpkin hot chocolate recipe a hit

This was the perfect Halloween weekend read and fantastic to get me in the harvest spirit. The story has a number of edit errors, but I still quite enjoyed it. Great characters and I liked the romance in the story. Really sweet and clean friends to partners story.
My whole family loved the pumpkin hot chocolate recipe shared at the end of the book. I loved it because it wasn't pumpkin spice like most recipes--it actually included pumpkin. We tried it last night and it was a keeper-delicious!

Language: Clean
Religious: No. The characters go to church, but no sermons here.

Happy reading!

I absolutely loved this book from Lucy McConnell. It starts with a woman and her two children after they have lost a husband and father. The brother steps in to help where he can and a relationship starts to develop. Like so many people before her she feels that this is wrong since it is her brother-in-law and worries about what people will say. Lesson that is learned in this book it to be open and talk about what is going on starting with the parents before you cause harm to a relationship. I love that it has a happy ending and shows that love and live do go on after tragedy.

From Best Friend to Husband is Wynn and Judd's story. Wynn and Thatcher fell in love in high school and got married, knowing that their time together was short. Now Wynn is alone raising two kids, but luckily, she has help from Judd, her brother-in-law and best friend.

This is a good story, it shows the strength of family and the love of friends. Wynn and Judd may have always had a connection, but it takes them letting down their walls to try and opening their hearts to accept.

Great story that warms you soul.

A good clean romance about a widow Wynn and her best friend, former brother in law, Judd. He helps and steps in when needed with the kids since his brother passed away, they’re like a small family unit then suddenly, an attraction happens. What will his family think? Will it ruin their friendship?
I really enjoyed the story. I wish was mentioned was what disease her husband died from; the story kept saying they/she knew he was going to die throughout the story but from what? I don't think I missed it. I would recommend the book.

Super cute. I don't know why it took me so long to read this book. I've had it on my TBR for a long time. At any rate, I'm so glad I did. Judd is this patient, amazing man who has been there for Wynn over the years since her husband died...who happens to be Judd's brother. With a bit of guilt haunting them both, this story follows them from the moment they begin to realize their relationship is building to something more than platonic. Sweet little romance that I thoroughly enjoyed. Thank you, Lucy, for such an uplifting and sweet read.

From Best Friend to Husband

My husband and I met each other when we were 14. We were neither best nor good friends just acquaintances. We lived in different cities, went to different schools and churches. We chatted in our churches youth groups until we graduated high school. We went off in different directions for college but in our junior year we met again and the rest is history.

A very good story. Even knowing, from the title plus later stories previously read, how this story would end, Lucy McConnell was able to keep the tension between Wynn, Judd, theirselves, and the community apparent throughout. Yet, the tension is not actually uncomfortable.

Entertaining. Happily Ever After. Romantic. Unpredictable. Whimsical. Wonderful characters.

I received a review copy of this book from a third party. This is my honest review.
