There are so many red flags with this relationship-to-be, yet I keep reading because I want to hope that this isn’t just romanticization of a co-dependent relationship. I really like the heroine, but Hananoi is a grade-A creepster. Run away, little heroine, run away!!
Updated Review 6/25/2024: The ending of this volume was so so so satisfying!
It's the moment we really see both our leads changing as Hotaru realizes what love is to her personally as well as seeing a more vulnerable side of Hananoi who is afraid he will end up alone, and therefore must give his all and then some. It shows an inside glimpse of WHY he is so intense and seems so desperate to make Hotaru happy.
However, saying that I think he really DOES want to make her happy because he genuinely cares for her. I think it's very similar to how Hotaru is realizing and wanting to make him just as happy, but definitely not nearly as intense. LOL!
I really love how she thinks about her feelings and that she won't settle for an easy answer because she wants to understand WHY that is her answer. It makes her a compelling heroine because I feel she doesn't usually act "rashly" in the sense she is making decisions purely based on her feelings at the moment. She's amazing!
I love the coworker that we met! She's so fun!
Definitely another compelling volume!
Original Review 3/20/2023: 4.5 stars
All aboard the feels train because this ending was another feels train going full steam ahead!
Gah, what another excellent volume!
It felt a tad bit slower than the first volume, but I REALLY love seeing Hatoru realize her feelings for Hananoi and exploring what love is and what it means to her. While the shoujo manga Strobe Edge questions what is love and explores something slightly similar, there is a uniqueness to this series that I am finding I deeply love. Maybe because Hotaru doesn't make all of her decisions/choices purely by feelings and wants something more…concrete? I'm not sure if that's the right word and maybe it goes to show how well this volume specifically is exploring that concept through Hotaru's perspective.
Now I will confess Hanoi did have another little bit of a "red alert" moment that had me internally nervously sweating. I REALLY think he's a good guy but has a lot of pain he's gone through. I think that was more reflective when he says he's a little TOO happy and maybe shouldn't be, which broke my heart on his behalf. I truly hope he finds happiness and can see that he is important just as he is! <3 Also this might be one of the few times where I am equally invested in the heroine's growth/journey just as much as the hero's growth/journey.
Overall, another wonderful volume that I really enjoyed! Lots of cute and heart-moving moments!
Another high-school romance manga I'm following and oh my god it's too cute. If you want an adorable, swoony, cute romance, A Condition Called Love is the one you've been looking for. Sadly, it only has two volumes now lmao but omg it's super cute!! ˚ ❀
The guy is someone who has never been chosen. He has always given his all to these relationships and people just leave him. Now, he has found Hotaru who prefers food to love. But he's ready to give it his all once again. He's still a bit scared and doesn't know how this will turn out, but Hotaru is slowly realizing that maybe she likes him too. It's super adorable to see their relationship develop. How easy it is for them to be together? CHEF KISS. He is down bad for her, my friends.
I'm excited to continue this story. This volume has so many cute moments. RECHARGING STATION??? HE RECHARGES HIS ENERGY BY HUGGING HER??? Stop, that's adorable. Also the rooftop scene? The scene where they're in her bedroom and they're talking and telling each other things about their childhood and opening up? So beautiful. I'm loving the process of their development.
I don’t like how the MC H is almost obsessed to the point of only focusing on the MC h and literally telling her friends he doesn’t want to get to know them, he only cares about her. Huge red flag!
She, on the other hand, is incredibly cute and thinks things through that are confusing to her, how she should act to understand him, to not unintentionally hurt his feelings, to get closer to him.
No one tells her about his being rude to them, so she can’t act off of that knowledge and while it’s sad he has issues, it isn’t her job to fix him. He needs to find a professional, not a girl friend.
2, I don’t want to see this get less healthy but be “happy”, stars.

He's such a red flag right now, I can't stop reading. Meanwhile Hotaru is uber wholesome.
RECAP: they've decided to indefinitely continue dating. New Years at the shrine with her friends, Hananoi is not friendly. Recharging without touching. She starts working at a bookstore. He comes to her place for dinner and meets the family and they share a little heart/heart about her hair and his childhood. Rooftop snuggles and almost kiss. Her coworker wants Hananoi's phone number, Hotaru is hesitant, and then after a bunch of worrying, finally tells Hananoi what's going on and turns down her coworker. Who ended up just wanting his number because he looks like an idol she Stans lol. Date where they watch a scary movie, eat, and then exchange bar keychains lol. He protects her from a soccer ball lol. And then ends with her thinking she loves him.
I'm still getting such an ominous vibe while reading this. Like any moment it's going to turn into a darker series. Everything about it says shoujo and Hotaru's perspective is so shoujo, but Hananoi! He's too strange. I don't like that he isn't willing to get along with her friends or make any of his own. I do feel bad that people tell him he's too intense and hard to be around, but like he kind of is? Hotaru's just a little too clueless to notice it. I hope that as the series goes on Hananoi also grows into a more open person that isn't so obsessed with his girlfriend and is willing to have more relationships. It doesn't seem like he's going to make Hotaru not be with her friends, but there's just little things about their relationship that bothers me. I didn't like that line about how her friends and family take away her time. They still have cute moments, but I can't help, but get a little weirded out by Hananoi. I don't know what to think.
Though I love the first one, I think each subsequent addition steps up the emotional intrigue between Hotaru and Hananoi.
Now that their relationship is more established, I'm predicting that it will be tested in the next manga (but I would LOVE to be wrong about this-give me filler! Fluff doesn't bother this one!)
I'm excited to see how Hotaru explores her feelings and learns to understand herself more in the process. Hopefully they will be able to make it through now that they're fully in this together.
One of my favorite parts about this volume is how Hotaru is able to reflect on her own behavior and realize it's not fair of her to want to know more about Hananoi when she herself never opens up. It's the little moments like this that makes the series so realistic and enjoyable. While they still have a long way to go, it's nice to see how much progress they've made.

3 stars Still adorable. He’s a little more obsessed with her than he probably should but he treats her like a Princess so???
Content/TW- 1 hot, 1 oh my God, 2 “thank God”, 1 gosh, 1 holy crap, 1 duh, 2 sh*t (in a movie), 2 stupid, 2 screw up, a mention of “hell to pay”; (Adding that I think it was this volume where we learn about a mean prank played on our FL in middle school involving her hair); Going to a shrine & praying (Hanaio doesn’t pray saying that the “gods never did him any favors”); Hand holding, he “recharges” himself by leaning next to her (without touching her) & she’s flustered by it; Nearness & smelling; A mention of kissing; A mention of an almost kiss & him pinning her to the ground (Vol 1); A mention of making out (her little sister says they’re making out when they’re actual not); He tells her not to let her guard down when they’re alone together (in her room) even though he promised not to touch her (she ends up patting his head and they both get super blushy—which causes her to wonder why she wants to touch him); To stay warm, she ends up in his lap/in his cardigan (see cover) and tells him to call off the no touching rule (which leads to him hugging her and an almost kiss); Two scenes of a busty woman in a movie (cleavage shown once); Dating, dates, boyfriends/girlfriends, falling in love & such is the main focus & discussed often.
3.5 Listen, I know the guy is a bit strange, kinda gives stalker, but there’s something about him that I like and that has me continuing to read. The guy is a hopeless romantic but so over the top about it, and the girl is the complete opposite. Right now their chemistry is not great but I can’t help but want to keep reading and see how they will eventually (hopefully) meet in the middle and have a really cute and normal relationship. I’m holding out hope that it will pay off sticking with the series.
Such a cute volume! The matching key-rings and first date was so adorable, and i'm glad we're starting to see some growth for the main characters!
I'll admit that I was a little unsure with Hananoi-kun and how intensly he fell for the female lead in volume 1.. (insta love isn't really my thing usually) But now that we've seen his character a little more, I think i'm starting to see that it's mostly just his personality rather than it being anything weird 🤔
This was so beautifully written. The art and the story *chef kisses*
At the beginning of the manga tho, I was thrown off cause it seemed like Hananoi was a red flag at first with how rude his behaviour was with the friends, but I feel like there’s more under the surface around his story.
But brooo! Pg 80 😳🫠☺️ I died and came back. so cuteee.
I cannot see the rest of their story and Hananoi’s cause I feel like there’s more to him than meets the eye.
I liked this book but it didn't pull me in as much as I thought it would.
I like that they didn't end their trial run of a relationship but the romance was kind of stale to me. I would like to see it have grown a little better or more. I won't write the series off just yet, I will wait to see what the third volume holds.
such a cute volume!! i loved seeing hotaru realize that she loves hananoi-kun. there’s been so many adorable moments. hananoi still gave me some creepy red flag guy vibes sometimes but i can’t help but love him. once again the artstyle of this series captivated me and i can’t wait to see their real relationship start.
We get several really sweet moments and the pacing is moving along nicely without lingering on things too much. I do hope that we get somemore background on Hananoi to help explain why he is the way that he is. As of now, he is still giving off some pretty intense vibes.
