Good as Hell

Rate this book
It’s a mysteriously charmed life for orphan Sebastien Harris, but it’s still a shock to be offered a full ride to attend grad school at the obscure but prestigious Bosch University in upstate New York. Trouble starts as he attempts to reach the campus for his interview: first the train is cancelled, then a swarm of migratory air mattresses block the streets.

When he finally arrives, he’s too exhausted to question why a remarkably handsome man named Gem is waiting for him, nor does he have time. A demon horde demolishes the university, and the pair run for their lives—at which point Sebastien realizes Gem is not, strictly speaking, human.

Their adventure exposes Sebastien’s heritage…and reveals the prophecy he is destined to fulfill. Gem is infernal, a human-demon hybrid, and meant to be Sebastien’s servitor, a magical well from which Sebastien, a warlock by birth, will draw the power to remake the world. If he survives.

Gem is an infernal and Sebastien a warlock, not just a warlock he’s a rare one. He doesn’t even know he is one at all.

Infernals were bound to warlocks. After Sebastien meets Gem they are bonded in no time.

Soon they have to run (fly) when they understand the powerful Tcherla is after Sebastien.

There is no malice to find in Sebastien and a lack of fear, Gem can’t believe his eyes. Sebastien is a kind, considerate, caring warlock.

Gem is the most beautiful creature, lean, flexible, handsome, and has some amazing wings.

Sebastien’s connection with Gem is powerful. The things Sebastien does to Gem’s soul is fascinating, his (and mine) heart fluttered from ecstasy!

“Cute”

Together with Togram, Gem’s sister, and Celia, Togram’s warlock, they travel to find answers and a safe place.

Gem and Sebastien’s bond is getting stronger and stronger, when they become one, it was pure magic, magnificent sparkling magic.

“It’s hard to seduce you when you keep seducing me first.”

Their journey is one of many adventures, many!

We meet a troop of creatures; Warlocks, half-demon, Unseelies, Sidhe, Fate, talking Jaybirds, palm trees… palm trees? Yes, and a lot more.

All in all this adventure is a lot to consume, for me, tending to too much.

It was an exceptional narrative. Here and there some ridiculously performed actions.

The authors show us a world with a great diversity of fantasy with magic everywhere. There was an overwhelmingly hustle and bustle. All written at a fast pace. The main characters were endearing and sweet, vulnerable, and lovable.

Overall an entertaining, funny, and exciting story.

This is quite an absurd little story, all kinds of random stuff happens and it doesn't all make a whole heap of sense, but it was a fun ride.

It helped that I found both MCs very endearing. Sebastien is clueless about the magical world, and altruistic without fail, which really catches Gem unawares as the half-demon was reluctantly prepared for the typical unequal forced bonding.

I appreciated the moments of Gem showing he wasn't human, and how comfortable Sebastien was with that. All the sweet bits of wing cocooning were great.

I am also a huge fan of empathic magical bonds, and magical feedback loops, especially during sex. This novella has that in spades.

There were a few bits I could've done without, like Togram being so inappropriate, and I did find the climax a bit OTT but it fit with the overall tone of the book.

This is so, so good! So full of tension and confusing events that I was completely enthralled!

A lot of chaos happened around Sebastian pretty much as soon as the story began, to only increase after he met Gem. These two together had my heartbeat increase with each page I turned and I loved it! Sucked into a whirlwind of danger, fun and magic that puzzled and entertained me, my head spinning at every turn of action.

This book offers an original take on demons and paranormal, discovered step by step as the story progressed. Poor Sebastian caught in the middle of a situation beyond his comprehension, finally learning that he was a....

....that's for you to read and find out. Trust me, you'll love the adventure as much as I did!

I'm finding it really hard to review this book. it's mostly because it was overall okay and that's not really a review and all the things I want to talk about have a negative edge to them. Is this because they are the only parts i remember? or good points where overall and averagely fine which, doesn't make for something that stands out - plus talking about them kinda spoils the book.

Which means that review on the blog reads "This book was intriguing, from the moment I heard about the story until I finished it I was intrigued, I wanted to know what happened, how everything was going to work out and overall I liked the world." because if I add more then turn to what could be seen as a negative.

this book was labelled to me as a comedy fantasy and, no. it made it hard for me to get into, sorry, because I was looking for humour and all I got was, i guess snark, and though I had a few moments when I laughed, overall it wasn't a funny story.

the representation was good. we have both MM and FF coupling (even if the FF coupling came with his ex girlfriend who he loved and thought he'd spend his life with but who was just using him, I guess, and mentally abusive tho we don't talk about that) and that one of the male characters where's female clothing for a large chunk of the story.

they had this demon which was so depressed he wanted to die, and basically killed himself twice in order to end his suffering that they kept bring back seemingly for comic relief that didn't sit well with me at all. however the main characters own anxiety wasn't used as such.

I thought the overall story has such potential that kinda just lost it footing early in the story and because about sex with a monolog of sorts and a time jump at the end to make everything tie up nicely (plus a mentioning of mpreg).

i had a few problems with the book that I'm hoping was fixed through editing, as I read an arc.

overall, it was an okay read for me. I can't say if I would or'd skip a sequel because there was some very fascinated qualities and the writing overall kept me invested, which is always a plus in my books.

This was one of those reads where I suggest you kick back, put your feet up, and just enjoy the ride. Don't over analysis the depressed void demon, the cross-dressing infernal demon, the a touch egotistical ex-girlfriend, the anxiety-riddled warlock, or the bluebirds -
Just enjoy the adventure

The author dumps the reader into what feels like the middle of all the action - a bit like I was sure Sebastian was feeling at the moment - it takes a bit to get our footing but once we did - What the heck - YOLO

The overall story is fast-paced with a lot going on but it all slots together very well. I will admit it took me a bit to fall into the story but once I was there I was all in.

Sebastian was a bit of an overthinker whose heart was definitely in the right place.
Gem expected the worst but found something magical.
If I give away to much it ruins the surprises - and there are a lot of surprises.
Overall this was more on the snarky side with a lot of smexy
The characters are vivid and you will either like them or loathe them.
I don't think there is much middle ground with this motley bunch.
Plenty of action and OMG surprises to keep you entertained
Definitely for the over 18+ reader

What I Think: This tale made my blood sing even as I felt so utterly ridiculous for falling under its strange spell. It was my first tale by these authors whose names I fell in love with at first sight. Starting with the weirdest conversation ever (even after the flying mattresses), it set up its stage in my mind with an aggressive nonchalance that could have failed in its follow up but this Author and Authoress proved that they were more than sufficient to the task as they blew my doubts to smithereens. This tale was everything the adult in me wanted to see in Harry Potter (the child in me still believes Potter is perfect and we should seperate the book from its Authoress. Even though she broke my heart, being in a truly liberal world means everyone has the right to their opinions). I was thrown for a loop and confused for the first 8th of the book especially as things segued into erotica as madly as the tale began. But by the time Gem and Sebastian begin their bond, I was madly in love with them both! Sebastian is simply that sweet and precious that he’s changing Gem’s mind without him even realizing it. I did not expect the humor that hit me with this tale as these Infernals prove to be nothing but big babies which also addened me. Humans are much more horrible and their use of the demons and hybrids is nothing but slavery which had me ready to stand by Seb and Gem as they start a new world order. Did I already say Infernals are big, high maintenance babies? From the food they eat to the constant albeit luscious recharging they need. As our couple are joined by a very unlikely couple and a depressed void-cat-demon who should have been a drag queen because his drama is so extra, my respect for Sebastian grew to new heights. Not only does he take to the world he never knew he was part of with ease befitting his status as the Promised One, he is such an amazing leader that even his companions begin to love him, in spite of themselves. I respect Sebastian even more for his moral compass, the love in his soul and the true equality he believes in. But most especially, for not allowing his experiences to turn him bitter. Too many people do this, forgetting that it’s the soul that is bitter that carries that weight around. Gem just keeps denying his feelings forgetting that if he had to keep pulling out his Infernal card to remind himself, he’d already lost the battle. The same way his sister loses the battle against Seb’s charm and bonds herself to a very surprising human in a lesbian romance worthy of its own tale. These authors have definitely read the right books, watched the right movies, and yes, listened to all the right songs as they add tension, laughter, love and romance to a tale so insane, it took on life of its own. By the time the Elvisses joined the tale, I had surrendered and joined in the madness, ready to fight to the death if anyone even looked at my Infernals and their humans wrong! I was spell-bound as I read, in no hurry to finish the tale because this world filled with impossiblities and strength hidden in the most unlikely places had me deeply submerged in a place filled with so much light that I did not want to be roused from it. Throw in a stepmom who’s a Duke of Hell, Infernals with more soul than most humans, bad-ass women, one humble, tainted Celestial with the luck of the damned, crossdressing, lovemaking that literally lights up the night and lit up my nerves into the cauldron along with the right kind of love and you will come up with a tale so bewitching and addictive, the hangover lingers for what feels like forever. You will never forget any of these characters. I mean, ever! But there is a problem: how do we turn this into a movie?

Verdict? A comfort keeper of a thrilling yet charming tale that will leave you hungover for which there is only 1 cure – read it again! You’re welcome!!

Good as Hell
MMy Thoughts and Review:

This was my second roller coaster ride with Nacht and Euclid. Honestly, a roller-coaster ride is the only way to describe all the delightful twisting and winding at the speed of light with loops both forward and backward, leaving me with butterflies in my stomach and a head rush at the end. I can only liken my experience with this book to movies I watched as a teen in the ‘80s.

It has been a while since I have read a story that was not predictable in both the sequence of events AND the ending. I am not easily surprised by stories in movies or books, so this made “Good as Hell,” even more fun, and also a nice little sparkling jewel for my treasure hoard. My text-to-speech engine even cheered at the end, and believe me, that guy is as dry as an old sponge most days. **giggle…☺

I won’t bore you with regurgitating the premise, however, I will tell you that if you are on the prowl for a paranormal, demon, warlock, human, romantic comedy, that is quirky, smart, filled with angry birds, tumbling mattresses, discovering which part of America holds a great demonic population (since that’s where I live, I was NOT shocked to discover this😜- I’ve had to “paddle faster” more than once) and that it IS possible that you don’t always know what amazing things CAN happen in your life until you decide you are going to take the risk, THIS IS THE BOOK FOR YOU!

Even though the story is a comedy, underneath are nuggets of wisdom and affirmation gems that gently remind you to keep putting one foot in front of the other. Even when the fires of hell are blazing all around us, we must crawl to find safety and there is nothing wrong with being low before we rise once more. We are more powerful than we give ourselves credit for. It just takes belief in ourselves, and if we are lucky enough to have others to share this crazy ride of life with us, then the sky’s the limit. This book is most definitely, “GOOD AS HELL!”

Loved this story and the characters, especially the little void cat 😼 demon, Barnar. I am writing Santa today to ask for one this year in my stocking. 🙀 I believe my chances are good. 🤣

Independent reviewer for Archaeolibrarian, I was gifted my copy of this book.

At first, I wasn't sure I would like this! It's a bit random, what with flying mattresses and flocks of blue jays in New York, but I'm so bloody glad that I kept going, cos let me tell ya, this book sucked me in, good and proper!

I don't think I've read anything quite like, in a long ass time, and I LOVED this book.

I mean this book twists and turns all over the place. It drags you kicking and screaming along, and then dumps you unceremoniously on your behind, letting you catch up a bit. It throws things at you, and you have the think "what the actual chuffing eck" and then, pages down the line, it explains it all away, and you "chuffing eck" all over again! (I said say, I do believe I swore, profusely, a time or two reading this book, but some sites don't like you to, so chuffing eck will have to do! But it's not a strong enough swear word, you hear me?!?!?!)

And, just as you get over THAT little hissy fit, another comes along and you are reading faster and faster and the next thing, that MASTERPIECE of a plot twist is thrown at you and you just....sit....and...WOW.

I've filed it on my Masterpieces shelf, because of that twist. Cos I did so NOT see that coming, not in a million years!

It's very well told, from both Gem and Sebastian's point of view, in the third person. It's hot and steamy in places, but also sweet as sugar in others. A bit gory in places, but nothing too graffic. Lots of really random stuff that made for an amazing fun read!

I want to rant and rave about this book, but I've deleted most of this review cos of spoilers, and I want YOU to enjoy it as much as I did and I don't think you will, if you see spoilers. So, as much as I wanna rant and rave, you're gonna have to make do with a mini rant.

This is the first book I've read of either of these authors, and I hope it isn't the last, cos, you know, in case you missed it...

I BLOODY LOVED THIS BOOK! So read it, people, read the damn book!

5 full and shiny, totally unexpected, but very much desered, stars

This magical adventure was downright wacky at times but kept me intrigued from start to finish.

What started off as a normal day for Sebastien spiraled into something that not even my most delirious fever dreams could have cooked up. I was so incredibly confused during the first couple of chapters as I tried to figure out what was going on with the demons and warlocks and Infernals. Sebastien handled his newfound legacy a lot better than I did, to the point where I couldn't believe how easily he kept accepting all the craziness that appeared in his life. I wish these authors had more gently eased me into the story, because once Sebastien and Gem started running I didn't have time to process anything that was happening. Putting the breakneck pace aside, I was entranced by the bond forming between Gem and Sebastien. Their steamy moments were fiery hot, and I loved the added intimacy of their power-sharing and mental connection. But not even the shiver-inducing romance could make me forget just how weird this story got at times. Whether it was Celia casually tagging along on the journey or a group of Elvis impersonators who weren't what they seemed, this story pushed hard at my own personal ideas of logical storytelling. About halfway through the book I had to completely let go of everything I thought I knew, and honestly, once I did I had a lot more fun. I couldn't have predicted a single second of this story, and the wild surprises that greeted me at every turn were enjoyable if I didn't think about how little sense everything made. I don't know if I could read a follow-up book about Sebastien and Gem, but I can honestly say that I have never and will never read anything quite like this again.

**I voluntarily read an ARC of this book. This review expresses my honest thoughts and opinions.

This book left me with mixed feelings in that it had many ideas i loved and the world buiding could have been fascinating. However sadly a lot of the story fell flat, shocked to say this because its not a secret i love steam... but so much of this was just oversexualised and made the relationships seem lacking.

I enjoyed the first half between just Sebastien and Sebastien, when they were on the run and still figuring each other out. Sebs luck and their cute moments, flying, eating donuts, blue jays, gems and walking on the track.

Their clashing views of the world as Seb gets to know his magic and hates the treatment of infernals, while Gem has never known another way and just presumes a lot. I enjoyed their growing relationship throughout, as they learn from each other.

Sadly the moment the side cast arrived it went down hill for me. Togram was rather strange and just seemed creepy with her constant asking of Seb to have sex. Watching him and Gem, along with her decisions i just didn't care for her at all.

Then we get Sebs ex Celia who was just ridiculous and i didn't like how she had treated Seb, their sudden friendship and her bonding with Togram seemed random. Considering Sebs been in therapy like a year, partly due to her and his anxiety over a lot. I just didn't care for her character and how they all seemed to ignore or dismiss Sebs feelings, it was frustrating.

So yeah i guess i had a lot of issues with this one, but im sure many will love it and it does have an interesting concept. Oh and i forgot to mention Banar he was a sweet character and i liked how related to Seb in ways.

Overall a short read, with a lot of entertaining and fun moments but just not fitting for me due to sidecast. The ending was cute though, lovely look towards future for Seb and Gem 💕

(4.5 stars)

The synopsis was very interesting and gave me Harry Potter vibes, and so I ventured into this one.
However, this couldn't be more different and it offers so much more!

When Sebastian receives a letter of acceptance to a graduate school he never applied for, moreover with a fully paid scholarship, he thinks it's a scam. Full ride programs didn't happen to just anyone and so he was sceptical with good reason.
But strange and mysterious things begin to happen when he attempts to reach his campus for an interview.
When he finally makes it, he is approached by a handsome man, Gem who is waiting for him to arrive.

Before Sebastian knows it he is embroiled in a whole new world of a different kind. Gem is not exactly human but an infernal, human demon hybrid and neither is Sebastian, who is actually a warlock at birth.
As they embark on the adventure of their lives, they encounter magical beings and discover things they never knew were possible.
Will Gem and Sebastian survive their quest and maybe find more along the way?

I have always admired Clancy Nacht's work, and this one was no different.
The world building was unique and engaging. The characters were real, likeable and well fleshed out.
The story was compelling and kept me entertained.
Definitely recommend if you like a fun adventurous tale with light romance, set in a magical universe.

Really good as hell! I sinopsis and that’s why I want to read it, Sebastian is a young man who received a letter of acceptance from the Bosch University to a graduate school he never applied for but it was a full paid scholarship so why not to check it out? What could happened? If you can get to the interview because the metro won’t work, flying matters immigration won’t let you go or if you can’t find the place in maps... better think about it! Lol... but when Sebastian finally makes it he is received by Gem.

Sebastian whole world change then, he discovered that he is a warlock and Gem is a half human half demon call infernal and he is assigned to him as his servitor and his purpose is to protect him. They need to escape because Bosch in attack so Gem takes Sebastian to a safe place... and the they start a journey for their lives, they encounter many enemies along the way to discover The Harris legacy and why the demon Tcherla wants to kill him, Sebastian and Gem have a great chemistry and I loved them together. This is a great read, engaging and with so many likable character, a definitely recommended this book!

Sebastien is on his way for an interview for a full ride scholarship. He finally makes it to an out of the way place just in time to see it destroyed. He is flown away from the destruction by a man (person? something else?). Gem is a half demon, an Infernal and he has wings. Gorgeous beautiful wings and he’s meant to be ‘Bastien’s. Which oddly enough doesn’t bother him much. While fleeing a monstrous demon, they collect Gem’s sister Togram, Sebastien’s ex Celia, and
Barnar, a void beastie (but that doesn’t make him all bad). Onward to battle they go.

I really liked the relationship between Gem and his ‘Bastien. In the normal scheme of things Gem would serve ‘Bastien and be used and abused in any way his servitor deemed appropriate. But as often happens in the magical world things just aren’t as they should be.

Nice story with imaginative characters and great world building. I felt the story was a cross between fantasy and paranormal. Well written.

It's a fun and entertaining story, although it confused me a bit because of the drastic turns it takes in a short time. The characters are interesting and made me laugh more than once, only some scenes were too rushed for my liking and there were elements that seemed added just to make this a different novel, which brought me out of reading several times. Anyway it entertains and makes you have a good time.

4.5, rounded up because I really enjoyed the story.
Sebastien goes to interview for a scholarship when all hell (couldn't resist 🙂) breaks loose! The school is destroyed, he's rescued by a half-demon (Gem) and and he acquires an entourage of bluejays :) The characters are really likeable, including Togram, Gem's 'sister', Celia, Seb's ex., but Barnar stole my heart! He was crabby from from the beginning, but so funny! The mystery of Seb's family and his legacy is interesting, as is the world of fae, demons and other creatures.
The relationship between Seb and Gem is a mix of innocence (Seb), humour, sweetness, snark and trust. I really hope their story continues!
I was lucky enough to recieve an ARC.

When it comes to reading I love starting that first page and then getting lost within the story. Books like this one I enjoy because it allows me to get lost in a world so different than real life. The author did well taking us on this crazy adventure with Sébastien, Gem, and their friends/family. I'll admit that the story was different than what I had thought it was going to be, but I still liked it. If you enjoy stories with magic, warlocks, demons, fae, hybrids, mystery, adventure, and so on, then you should consider giving this book a read.

Wacky and quirky, this was great! Kept me turning the pages!! Sebastien is offered a full ride to a prestigious university, when he goes to the school, it has been destroyed! He is rescued by Gem, a half demon. I loved this story, all the aspects!! The secondary characters were awesome!! I loved the demons, the fae, all the humor and the snark! I am voluntarily leaving a review form an advanced copy that I received. My reviews are solely based on my thoughts and opinions.

So… this was a really strange story. I think it had huge potential, especially as a multi-volumes series. But as it is, not really enjoyable. It felt very confusing, borderline oniric at points. It needed more structure, more editing, and a clearer vision for where the story was headed. Pity.
In addition half of the characters here are raging psychopaths. I would say 3.5 since the protagonist was rather endearing.

Magic and demons and sex, oh my! This is a fun read. Gem and Sebastian make an exuberant couple that connect on the fly.

There’s so much going on! Unlikely friends and allies (Elvis impersonators!) help them succeed.

Seriously, it’s a whirlwind of action and laughs, with little stress. I enjoyed the break from reality.

Good as Hell by Clancy Nacht and Thursday Euclid is ntriguing and amusing.  There are fantastic parts and then just a few that didn't hit just right.  Overall though I never was tempted to stop reading because it kept my interest and was quite enjoyable.  I would definitely read a sequel if one was released.  I am still intrigued by this magical world.
