After enjoying the series debut, I gladly reached for the second novel in the collection by Rob Jones. Max Hunter recently found some mysteries about Atlantis, a lifelong mission. After becoming part of HARPA, a group within the US Government to protect antiquities, he joins them on a new mission. News of smuggled biblical relics arriving in New York sends HARPA to intercept them. They contain a statue that could help uncover truths about John the Apostle, th author of the Book of Revelations. While the team follows a few leads, they put themselves in new dangers, facing ruthless criminals who also want the statue and other pieces for their own. It will be an adventure like no other that sends Max Hunter and the rest of HARPA around Europe to reveal new information about the End of Times. Rob Jones impresses once more with this piece.
After receiving news from the Dutch about a smuggled piece of antiquity, Heritage, Artifacts, and Relics Protection Agency (HARPA) Director James Gates sends his team to New York. The mission, led by Deputy Director Amy Fox, is to raid a container ship that said to possess a statue linked to John the Apostle, the purported author of the Book of Revelations. This statue is but part of a larger collection that has a message, coded and hidden away, which might shed new light on the End of Times.
This riddle about the Apocalypse interests Max Harper, who was pulled into the middle of the team as a UNESCO archeologist. He joins others within HARPA as they head to New York, where they are met with some ruthless criminals, their own plan for the statue in mind. What begins as a confrontation in New York takes on new importance as other pieces in the Revelations mystery sends the team to Rome’s catacombs and then onto Greece.
There, HARPA team members will have to battle more criminal elements to get answers about what John the Apostle might have hoped to share. What was he trying to say with this mysterious message and how will it change what is known about the End of Days? HARPA has little time to wait, as this secret could be catastrophic if it end up in the wrong hands. Rob Jones impresses with this fast-paced story once more!
Rob Jones delivers a great follow-up story that mixes history with a great bit of action. Jones develops a strong narrative to create a strong story, complete with biblical and historical references, which is supported by much action. Great characters emerge, following the foundation laid in the debut piece, giving the reader something onto which they can connect, while following character progression. Hunter’s backstory is still of interest to me, though I need to see more before completely committing, as it seems he pushes it out whole part of HARPA now. Plot points were well placed and mixing history into it adds some surprises I needed to add additional depth. I am eager to keep reading to see where Rob Jones takes things.
Kudos, Mr. Jones, for a strong piece that pulled me in.
I was so looking forward to this one after finishing the first book of the series. This had some editing errors that kinda took you out of the story. Some simple spelling mistakes which I did not expect and what’s worse was some sentences which seemed incomplete, like it was a draft. What a shame. It would have been great.
Also, this one had more plot holes than the last one. Don’t think the solution to their final problem worked. Especially since it’s science based and they specifically mentioned it’s properties just a few paragraphs earlier. So the ultimate solution wouldn’t have worked with the properties mentioned. Sorry, trying not to give anything away! 🙊
But yeah, the errors kinda dashed things for me. I’m no longer the stickler for perfection that I once was. I can look past spelling errors sometimes but I dunno. I suppose I’ll chalk it down to expectation. The first book was brilliant and gave me a seamless experience. It was so polished. This one, not so much. And that’s kinda jarring and rather disappointing I would say.
fast-paced, lots of action including a lot of gun battles
Action packed story that follows a government sanctioned team in search of a relic which may be an additional chapter of Revelation. The biblical references are fairly accurate. This team goes from one battle to the next. The battles are tense and people die. I removed one star because the HARPA team always comes relatively unscathed while any other government agency helping them are completely wiped out. Seems unrealistic. Characters are well depicted. Some of the dialogue seemed forced or uncomfortable.
This story idea was good but the expression of the tale was so almost juvenile with the stupid jokes. Not very realistic in the circumstances described. I really had difficulty in for ing myself to finish reading it.
And for Amy to continually be ing concerned about shooting the bad guys, give me a break., no law enforcement group would talk like that in similar circumstances.o. In
I can't think of anything unique nor catchy to say about this book. IMHO, it is a middle of the road; readable and entertaining but noting special It would make a good 'forgettable' airplane read, but hardly more.
I found the banter between the very 'diverse' characters to be a bit juvenile at times, but it fit within the overall context of the story line.
Not a bad adventure story. I am a sucker for historic biblical mysteries and this is one of those. Passed a vote of afternoons which is all you can ask. I do find these.a bit light as they conveniently sold mysteries millennia old while fighting off hordes of assassins but it keeps up the action. A good enough read for a quiet day.
Not sure if I mean that in a good or a curious way. The plot is definitely original but again I don’t think I mean that in a good way. There are some serious editing mistakes that cause you to wonder if you changed books. Character names change, etc. While I might be conflicted about the story, I did get sucked in and had to read to the very end.
Hunter becomes the newest member of HARPA just in time to be involved in a new case. Searching for statues made by John relating to the apocalypse the team is in for battles, killings and finally attempting to stop a crazed killer.
No wonder I haven't heard from Joe Hawke in a while your relic hunters is first class I loved how you made the characters more than just holsters but a mixture jokesters warriors frightened &flirty characters
Another superb action thriller with lots of great historical knowledge and lovable characters . Felt like i became a historian myself reading it while looking up alot of the awesome places and references in the book, clearly well researched. Perfect sequel to The Atlantis Covenant.
What are the odds anyone could have survived all the team went through? Not much real connection with the Book of Revelation. Looking for more relevance and not so much bloodshed.
Adventure and danger follows them no matter where they go. Lots of close call , twists and turns. Lots of facing death and spunky getaways. Well worth reading. Looking forward to the next "day in the life of HARPA."
Fast paced, hard packed action from page one to the end. The storyline and adventure were so plausible it pulled me in completely. I really like this book and I highly recommend it.
This book is a superb blend of interesting story line, terrific action, and great characters. My only complaint is that there are too many primary characters. Other than that, it does deserve five stars.
Loved very minute of the book it is fantastic from the first chapter till end of the book highly recommend reading it you won't be able to stop reading it till the end . He is a fantastic writer hope to read more from him.
Action packed from start to finish The HARPA team do it again - mission success Their adventures recovering ancient relics is never dull, always filled with a mix of seriousness and a touch of humour. A great read
Not a single fatality on the Harpa team. Ridiculous motorcycle chases , devastating firefights with trained soldiers, as archeologist, a goth, and all the others succeed . I wish I hadn’t wasted my time trading this book.
Fast paced and full of action but still not wholeheartedly in love with the characters or the style of writing. Did enjoy the bits of facts dispensed in the story.
