I started writing my first stories when I was a teen…on a freaking typewriter. I still have these, and they’re adorably romantic. And bad, haha. Fear of failing kept me from following my dream to become a romance author, so you can imagine how proud and ecstatic I am that I finally overcame my fears and self doubt and did it. I adore my genre because I love writing and reading about flawed, strong men who are just a tad broken..but find their happy ever after anyway.

My favorite books to read are pretty much all MM/gay romances as long as it has a happy end. Kink is a plus… Aside from that, I also read a lot of nonfiction and not just books on writing. Popular psychology is a favorite topic of mine and so are self help and sociology.

Hobbies? Ain’t nobody got time for that. Just kidding. I love traveling, spending time near the ocean, and hiking. But I love books more.

"L'occasione della vita" è un romanzo autoconclusivo tutto da gustare, con al centro due protagonisti giovani e le loro aspirazioni di partecipare a un talent show che potrebbe cambiare le loro vite e realizzare il loro più grande sogno: riuscire a fare conoscere il loro talento musicale e vivere di musica. Questa storia mi ha coinvolta e appassionato, deliziandomi davvero tanto sotto tutti i punti di vista. Dal Jersey e Brooklyn a Los Angeles inizia un viaggio tra provini e selezioni, interviste e lezioni con vocal coach, tutto accompagnato da una colonna sonora che ha fatto la storia nel panorama musicale mondiale con tantissimi titoli e nomi degli artisti tanto amati. Chi come me è appassionata dei talent show musicali apprezzerà l'ambientazione accurata e perfettamente dettagliata, le diverse fasi in cui si delinea la vicenda e la presenza dei personaggi secondari che popolano il mondo dello showbiz, nelle sue luci ma anche nelle sue ombre che rendono questo mondo non sempre così scintillante. Judah e Denver sono due giovani con grandi capacità vocali e musicali, anche se totalmente diversi nei loro talenti. Sono concorrenti, dovrebbero essere rivali eppure non possono evitare di guardarsi e punzecchiarsi, avvicinarsi per poi allontanarsi, fino a gravitare l'uno verso l'altro inesorabilmente attratti l'uno dall'altro. Due giovani che instaurano un legame, un'amicizia che diventa passione bruciante e conoscenza tenera in un rapporto di grande dolcezza e condivisione; un rapporto all'inizio non semplice a causa delle reticenze e paure di entrambi ma che è di una dolcezza unica quando le paure vengono abbandonate e i sensi di colpa lasciati andare. Ho adorato la caratterizzazione di questi due protagonisti nelle loro peculiarità per background differenti ma nella stessa vulnerabilità e reciproca sincerità. Judah non ha una casa e fa fatica a sbarcare il lunario, si reputa un fallimento e una delusione. Il senso di colpa verso ciò che ha lasciato e la vergogna per la sua omosessualità sono un grande peso. La sua inesperienza e i suoi timori mi hanno fatto una grande tenerezza, ma il suo entusiasmo e la gioia verso tutto ciò che Denver gli fa scoprire mi ha riscaldato il cuore. Denver è effervescente, gentile e generoso, un'anima bella e positiva nonostante quello che ha dovuto soffrire, la sua forza e tenacia è ammirevole e la sua sensibilità conquista. Entrambi si mettono a nudo, si scoprono e aiutano. Judah e Denver sono insieme alla conquista del loro sogno ma quello che ottengono nel loro percorso sarà ancora più importante e grande. Lo stile è fluido, ricco di particolari e i tanti dialoghi sono spigliati e aperti, ci sono tante scene di sesso ben descritte e leggendo capirete anche perché della loro presenza costante, oltre naturalmente alla passione. I personaggi secondari sono ben caratterizzati e fondamentali per la storia, due in particolare hanno stuzzicato il mio interesse e vorrei tanto leggere la loro storia. Tanti sono i messaggi importanti e le tematiche forti trattati però con leggerezza, - non con superficialità, badate bene - , che hanno il peso e l'importanza giusta ma senza oscurare o appesantire quell'alone di positività che la lettura trasmette.

Wow, my first 5 star book for 2021. I almost walked away from this book. The subject matter is usually not one of my favorites. I don’t usually like books about musicians. I haven’t been wanting to read books with a lot of angst. So, why did I read it? It was just so good that I couldn’t put it down.

I loved Judah and Denver. They are two broken souls who save each other. Neither one of them wants a relationship. Judah’s dealing with his religious upbringing and Denver with a stalker who abused him.

Judah and Denver were opposites in every way, but when they came together it was pure passion and the chemistry between them was intense. The storyline was engaging and twists and turns the plot took made it all the more compelling. It's set during the selection and contest phase of a singing talent show. The main characters are amazing singers and contestants in the competition. They both have their hang ups and doubts, and the relationship is rocky to start with. Denver is a bubbly, happy guy with an angelic voice. He's hiding a brutal past that makes him afraid of his own future and distrustful towards any type of relationship. Throughout the majority of the story, he fights overcome this past with the help of Judah and some other friends.
Judah is a Jewish musician, no longer in contact with his family for all the horrible reasons you can imagine a gay man can be exposed to. He's not in a good place when he enters the show and his self-confidence is very low, though, he doesn't let it show. His inexperience with love mixed with Denver's hang ups and needs, gives us a sweet and beautiful romance. The characters were all likeable and entertaining, and Nora Phonex's writing style is always enjoyable. I have to give a big bouquet of red roses to Charlie David for his audio delivery. It was absolutely flawless. He's one of my favorites and I would listen to him read anything...the phone book...the dictionary...installation manuals for toilets...he brought the characters so vividly to life which made this all the more enjoyable.

pretty good, this was like the backstage access to "The Voice".

I did have a different thing pictured for Cody (Denvers Stalker ex). Judah and Denver was cute, but idk i felt like they both needed to figure out how to better themselves rather than get in to a relationship. I feel like Judah tried to talk things out a lot more than Denver which was shocking.

Overall this was a cute book, but was wishing for something more. I do think that this didn't need to be over 350 pages, but it was entertaining.

Oh dear. There were so many typos, missing words and incorrect words used in this. For goodness sake authors...if you can't afford to use a proper editor, then at least use a decent proofreader who ought to be able to pick up some of the errors. This isn't the first time I've complained about a Nora Phoenix story unfortunately 😕.

As far as the story is concerned, Denver seemed to be some sort of sex maniac, and Judah?? Well, he kept putting both feet in his mouth at the same time fairly regularly. Have to admit I was more interested in Nathan and Tim's story, and as far as Cody is concerned, so long and have a nice time in jail. Only 3 stars rounded up from me.

Righty, I liked this one quite a lot, it dealt with a very traumatic issue in a sensitive and informative way without over dramatising it or making things appear to be done for the sake of plot.

Both Denver and Judah are sympathetic characters, even if they both carry baggage which makes them be a little introspective and, at times, self-absorbed, but the writing never makes the reader become bored of hearing about their troubles.

Although I do have to say, some of the sexy talk did make me laugh, which I'm not sure was necessarily the intention, but I forgave the characters as they are relatively young and Judah is inexperienced at anything!

The format of the book, hooking it on a reality TV talent show which might, or might not, be a shade in line with The Voice works well for anchoring each stage of their relationship from initial meeting through to the wonderfully ambiguous (for the TV show outcome not their feelings for each other!) ending.

There was also a good set of secondary characters and I do hope Nora is planning on giving us Tim and Nathan's story because I really NEED to read that!

Good solid story with enough different things going on that I wasn't bored. And enough sexy-times to keep me satisfied. I'm sure I'll be reading the rest eventually, but I'm not in a rush...and now I'm re-thinking -- isn't there another story with people from this competition? Maybe not. Maybe I just need to read another Nora Phoenix book for the hell of it...yeah, that's probably it!

I thought this was a cute premise, but there were some elements that lowered the rating for me.
- Judah has never had any sexual encounter, but the only kind of sex they wind up having results in full-on anal. They never have anything simpler than that. When Denver was too sore to have anal sex again, that would have been a good opportunity to be like, "Maybe just a blow job?"
- Although it's kind of addressed as an inability to communicate/over-reaction, the reasons they pull away from each other or break up came out of nowhere.
- The sex counseling session with the bodyguards was super-weird.
- I try not to blame indie authors too much for proofreading/editing mistakes, but this was out of control. The name of the singing competition changed over the course of the book, and too often I was trying to figure out what word the author really wanted to use.

I really enjoyed this book. Both characters are flawed but human. Learning to communicate in all the different ways people communicate is hard but Judah was determined and just what Denver needed. However, the ending was really abrupt and unsatisfying. I hope there is more coming and that it picks up from that ending. We went all that way with the boys, we deserved to see the outcome and how everything changes for them and how they handle it.

I hope we get to see more of Tim and North from the security detail.

Questo romanzo è la storia di due anime danneggiate, due giovani che, nonostante le difficoltà della vita, hanno deciso di prendere in mano le redini del proprio destino.

Judah è un ragazzo che ha dovuto scontrarsi con la crudeltà della propria famiglia e che, per sopravvivere, si è trovato costretto a rimboccarsi le maniche. Per lui la trasmissione The Right Note non è solo un trampolino di lancio, ma l’unica occasione che sente di poter avere per riuscire a riallacciare i rapporti con la famiglia, per poter fare ciò che ama nella vita ed esprimere se stesso.

Denver è l’opposto di Judah; appare a tutti come un angelo, bello da togliere il fiato, con una voce armoniosa e una chitarra che vale un occhio dalla testa, un giovane che in un primo momento può apparire arrogante, ma che nasconde dentro di sé un animo tormentato e segnato dal proprio passato. Al contrario di Judah, ha una famiglia amorevole e presente; questo, però, non gli ha impedito di finire tra le braccia dell’uomo sbagliato, che ora lo tormenta senza pietà.

La loro non è una relazione facile, non è un incontro romantico e da togliere il fiato, non è semplice lussuria, bensì una storia sofferta da entrambe le parti.

Ho trovato la storia dei due protagonisti molto realistica e ben strutturata in ogni minimo dettaglio, ho apprezzato soprattutto il modo in cui, con delicatezza, sono state affrontate le scene erotiche che coinvolgono la coppia.

I due ragazzi sono realistici e ben caratterizzati, per nulla perfetti, pieni di luci e di ombre, due giovani come tanti al mondo che riescono a lanciare un messaggio molto forte al lettore. Vengono infatti affrontati temi molto importanti e, ahimè, fin troppo attuali ai giorni nostri.

Ho apprezzato moltissimo il fatto che l’autrice sia riuscita, proprio tramite Denver, a mostrare gli effetti devastanti che una relazione sbagliata può avere su una persona. Judah non è un medico, non è una cura miracolosa, ma un primo piccolo passo verso un futuro luminoso. Allo stesso modo, Denver è un aiuto prezioso per Judah, un esempio di coraggio per spingere il compagno a vivere la propria vita.

Ad accompagnarli nel loro viaggio di crescita troviamo due personaggi speciali e intriganti, i bodyguard Tim e Nathan. I due uomini mi sono piaciuti molto fin dalla prima comparsa in scena, sono simpatici e professionali e spero che ci sia un libro su di loro.

L’occasione della vita è romanzo scritto molto bene, scorrevole e ricco di scene dolci e sensuali, ma anche di momenti intensi e ricchi di significato. Una cosa che non mi è piaciuta è la scelta di trascurare l’ambiente musicale in cui si svolge la storia, avrei voluto vedere e conoscere di più questo ambiente musicale, spesso ostile e pieno di contraddizioni.

Nonostante questo piccolo appunto, che comunque rimane un mio punto di vista, questo libro mi è piaciuto molto e mi sento di consigliarne la lettura a chi cerca una storia con una forte componente psicologica, in cui anche le scene più erotiche non sono poste a caso ma perfettamente contestualizzate, in cui i protagonisti soffrono e si aiutano a vicenda e in cui il loro amore ha un significato profondo.

Judah et Denver se rencontrent à l'occasion d'un casting pour participer à l'émission The Right Note (cherchez pas, c'est The Voice).

Nous allons donc suivre l'évolution de leur relation du départ des sélections (bien avant les auditions à l'aveugle) jusqu'à la finale.

Si j'ai apprécié de suivre ce que j'imagine être l'envers du décor avec toutes les mises en scènes de la production pour rendre les candidats plus "attractifs" (même si je suis fan absolue de The Voice, je ne suis absolument pas dupe), je n'ai pas été convaincue par la romance.

J'ai trouvé les personnages sans saveur, entre le beau gosse à la voix cristalline et le rocker aux doigts de fées sur sa guitare. L'auteur a rajouté, à mon sens, beaucoup trop de drames et de casseroles à chacun des deux et l'histoire de Nathan et de Tim est vraiment tarabiscotée et tirée du chapeau.

Je me rends compte que malgré sa très grande production, c'est la première fois que je lis un des romans de l'auteur et pour le coup, ce n'est pas concluant pour moi, j'avoue être un peu déçue, j'espérais sans doute un peu trop de travail sur le côté plongée dans les coulisses.

Sans doute aussi que passer après un gros coup de cœur n'a pas joué en la faveur de cette histoire, qui souffre malgré tout aussi de problèmes de traduction et de quelques coquilles.

Je tenterai un autre roman de l'auteur, plus tard, peut-être que j'accrocherai mieux...

What I like about this authors is how she beautifully creates her totally flawed men. They have issues that should make them weak, unable to function in a mature relationship. But they discover their weaknesses don't define them. Their strengths do.

Judah and Denver are two such men. Judah, buried in the closet of his own making. Denver, trying to recover from a brutal relationship. They have nothing in common except music. The competition brings them together in a way neither imagined was possible.

This book has a lot going on, keeping the reader engaged with the main characters and the secondary players as well. This story drew me in and was very satisfying to read. Plus, hot men in tight jeans with guitars and a story to tell are impossible to ignore

This is such a great book, I couldn’t put it down. The story is captivating, the characters are complex and likable. The author sure knows how to pull on my heartstrings, my emotions were all over the place from anger, sadness, and hope. I adore these characters and watching their journey unfold. I look forward to reading more from this author in the future.

Judah and Denver meet at an open call for a singing show in New York City. Both are talented and have no trouble making it through the first set of auditions. Denver and Judah are attracted to one another, but Denver has suffered in a past relationship and Judah is hiding his past and not sure he can accept his sexuality.

I love The Voice, and the show that Denver and Judah participated in is set up very similar to that, so I absolutely loved seeing the different steps to each audition. It was really interesting to follow along.

I loved Denver from the start, but I wasn’t so sure about Judah. His background throughout the majority of the story is kept secret, so while I felt bad for what I knew of his situation, I wasn’t always sure how I felt about him. In the second half of the book, Judah definitely became my favorite of the two. While I loved Denver at first, I’m not sure if it was intentionally done by the author, but his character was different throughout the second half of the book. Although he’s been through trauma, in the first half of the story he felt more mature and put together, whereas in the second half he felt much younger and was a bit irritating at times.

The story was well-written and interesting, but maybe a bit unrealistic or over the top in some instances, still I really enjoyed it. The chemistry between Judah and Denver was out of this world and the sex, well, it was plentiful, filthy at times and definitely hot!

This was my first book by this author, but I’ll definitely be checking out her backlist of stories. A great read that I’d definitely recommend!

Huge potential but the novel fails to work

This book had a real potential and started very well, but mid-way through some scenes started to go pear shaped, dialogues became disappointing with WTF moments.
The author has got the skills to offer something better, but decided to go the easy way. Disappointing in the end.

Devo ammettere di aver in un primo momento sottovalutato questo libro. Vista la trama piuttosto leggera e perfetta per uno young adult mi aspettavo di trovarmi tra le mani l'ennesimo romanzo adolescenziale condito con una storia d'amore banale e scontata, decisa a sfruttare i cliché del mondo della musica e delle ipocrisie dei talent show per portare avanti una narrazione piatta e priva di eventi importanti invece... mi sono dovuta ricredere. L'occasione della vita si è rivelato un libro per nulla banale in cui i protagonisti e le loro emozioni ne fanno da padroni regalando non poche soddisfazioni e portando a riflessioni profonde sui rapporti umani, sulle difficoltà personali e sull'importanza di esprimere se stessi. Questo romanzo è la storia di due anime danneggiate, due giovani che nonostante le difficoltà della vita hanno deciso di prendere in mano le redini del proprio destino, desiderosi di non arrendersi nonostante le difficoltà. Judah è un ragazzo che ha dovuto scontrarsi con la crudeltà della propria famiglia, due genitori che nel momento del bisogno hanno deciso di voltargli le spalle decidendo di mettere al primo posto la propria religione e i pregiudizi personali, il ragazzo si è ritrovato costretto a rimboccarsi le maniche per poter guadagnare qualche soldo e riuscire a mantenersi, per lui The Right Note non è solo un trampolino di lancio ma l'unica occasione che sente di poter avere per riuscire a riallacciare i rapporti con la famiglia, per poter fare ciò che ama nella vita ed esprimere se stesso.

Judah e Denver sono personaggi completamente diversi eppure con la loro diversità riescono a completarsi e ad aiutarsi a vicenda. La loro non è una storia facile, non è un incontro romantico e da togliere il fiato, non è semplice lussuria bensì una storia sofferta da entrambe le parti. I giovani sentono subito un legame, nonostante si siano appena visti, appena incrociano l'uno lo sguardo dell'altro sentono che qualcosa li lega indissolubilmente eppure sono spaventati e guidati dai loro demoni. Da una parte abbiamo Denver, un individuo consapevole della propria omosessualità, ha fatto coming out senza troppe difficoltà eppure continua a sentirsi sbagliato, il rapporto con il suo ex fidanzato lo ha lasciato distrutto e vittima di un disturbo post traumatico che lo tormenta senza dargli scampo, si sente un diverso e teme di non trovare nessuno disposto a dargli quello che cerca, ha paura che il suo desiderio di avere rapporti sessuali spinti e violenti possa scoraggiare gli uomini spingendoli a fuggire etichettandolo come un deviato, un pervertito, un malato. Dall'altra troviamo Judah, un giovane ancora vergine e guidato dalle sue insicurezze, nonostante sappia di essere omosessuale non ha mai esplorato la propria sessualità tenendo la sua natura nascosta anche agli amici, è consapevole che ammettere di amare un uomo romperebbe definitivamente i rapporti già incrinati con la famiglia. Nonostante i suoi genitori lo abbiano di fatto già ripudiato costringendolo a chiedere l'elemosina per vivere Judah in cuor suo continua a sperare di riallacciare i rapporti con loro. Sa che un coming out rovinerebbe tutto e cerca disperatamente di tenersi lontano da quell'angelo tentatore che lo ha stregato con la sua voce e bellezza. L'attrazione tra i due ragazzi nonostante sia forte non è facile da affrontare, è un attrazione piena di ansie, paure ma anche di tanto amore, un amore che l'autrice è riuscita a costruire piano piano, pagina dopo pagina mostrandoci il lento ed inesorabile avvicinamento dei due cantanti. Ho trovato la storia dei due protagonisti molto realistica e ben strutturata in ogni minimo dettaglio, ho apprezzato soprattutto il modo in cui con delicatezza sono state affrontate le scene erotiche che coinvolgono la coppia. Non ci troviamo un erotismo fine a se stesso ma un rapporto lento e delicato in cui ogni scena anche quella più spinta serve a mettere insieme i frammenti di un' intensa storia d'amore, a creare le basi per quella che sarà una storia salvifica, ricca di sentimenti e di speranza. Judah e Denver sono due personaggi realistici e ben caratterizzati, per nulla perfetti, pieni di luci e ombre, due giovani come tanti al mondo che riescono a lanciare un messaggio molto forte al lettore. Troviamo affrontati infatti temi molto importanti e ahimè fin troppo attuali ai giorni nostri. La storia di persone come Denver ci insegna a diffidare delle relazioni violente, a cercare di capire fin da subito il comportamento del compagno che abbiamo accanto e sopratutto ci insegna a chiedere aiuto, a non avere paura di deludere amici e parenti ma anzi all'occorrenza di rivolgerci a loro e alle autorità per difenderci dagli abusi e dalle violenze. Ho apprezzato moltissimo il fatto che l'autrice sia riuscita proprio tramite Denver a mostrare gli effetti devastanti che una relazione sbagliata può avere su una persona. Denver risulta spezzato, ansioso, costantemente prigioniero pure in casa propria perché costantemente terrorizzato al solo pensiero di ritrovarsi davanti l'ex violento e desideroso di vendetta. Ho apprezzato come ci è stato presentato e il modo in cui ci viene mostrata la speranza di una vita migliore, di una seconda possibilità. Judah non è un medico, non è una cura miracolosa ma un primo piccolo passo verso un futuro luminoso. Judah per Denver è un'ancora di salvezza, un aiuto concreto che lo porterà ad iniziare un viaggio doloroso che con il tempo lo spingerà ad affrontare i suoi demoni e a cercare di curare il suo disturbo spingendolo giorno dopo giorno a ritrovare il proprio posto nel mondo. Allo stesso modo Denver è un aiuto prezioso per Judah, un esempio di coraggio per spingere il compagno a vivere la propria vita, senza preoccuparsi delle ipocrisie del mondo circostante, senza cercare costantemente l'approvazione di una famiglia ipocrita e crudele che già lo ha abbandonato e mai cambierà idea. Judah e Denver ci insegnano a sperare e lottare per un futuro migliore. Ad accompagnarli nel loro viaggio di crescita troviamo due personaggi speciali ed intriganti, I bodyguard Tim e Nathan. I due uomini mi sono piaciuti molto fin dalla prima comparsa in scena, sono simpatici e professionali, si comportano un po' come due padri nei confronti di quei ragazzi così simili e così diversi da loro, hanno affrontato vari problemi nella loro vita e sanno bene cosa stanno passando i due giovani e proprio per questo li prendono a cuore, li aiutano insegnando loro i piccoli passi per un percorso nuovo, per una relazione sana e felice. Mi sono piaciuti moltissimo e spero di vederli protagonisti di un prossimo libro, mi piacerebbe molto saperne di più soprattutto sulla condizione di salute di Tim e su come si sono conosciuti. L'occasione della vita è romanzo scritto molto bene, scorrevole e ricco di scene dolci e sensuali ma anche di momenti intensi e ricchi di significato. Unica pecca? La scelta di trascurare l'ambiente musicale in cui è ambientata la storia. Ci troviamo nel programma fittizio di The Right Note una sorta di X Factor in cui i ragazzi si sfidano per il loro momento di gloria. Nonostante abbia apprezzato la scelta di dedicarsi principalmente ai protagonisti e al loro percorso di crescita personale ho sentito la mancanza di qualcosa di più. Il programma è soltanto un escamotage per far conoscere i due giovani e a parte alcune scene di fatto l'intera vicenda poteva benissimo essere ambientata ovunque, in una scuola, in un'università, in un altro pianeta e tutto.... sarebbe stato uguale, i protagonisti si sarebbe comportati allo stesso modo. Mi sarei aspettata qualcosa in più, vista la difficile situazione dei due avrei voluto vedere anche la difficoltà nel rapportarsi con l'ambiente musicale, spesso ostile e pieno di contraddizioni invece ci dobbiamo accontentare di qualche frecciatina sull'ipocrisia di certi show in cui l'intrattenimento supera il desiderio di giustizia arrivando al punto di ignorare comportamenti pericolosi pur di difendere gli ascolti e la credibilità del programma. Una piccola mancanza che vista la trama e la presentazione può far storcere il naso al lettore. Nonostante questo piccolo difetto questo libro mi è piaciuto e mi sento di consigliarne la lettura a chi cerca una storia con una forte componente psicologica, in cui anche le scene più erotiche non sono poste a caso ma perfettamente contestualizzate, in cui i protagonisti soffrono e si aiutano a vicenda e in cui il loro amore ha un significato profondo. Se volete una storia dolce ma anche sofferta e piena di speranza questo libro fa decisamente al caso vostro.

Denver, of 'Time of My Life' by Nora Phoenix, is desperate to get his life back. He's been a victim of an abusive relationship that almost killed him. Denver needs to rebuild his life and restore his self-esteem and wining the contest on the television reality show, 'The Right Note', will help him go a long way toward doing so. Theoretically, it will help launch the music career he's dreamed of for years. The last thing Denver needs to think about is a relationship. He can't afford to feel that vulnerable, ever again. At the audition, Denver spots a charismatic stranger, Judah, who is entertaining other contestants. Denver tries to ignore him, but Judah has already caught his eye. When he approaches Denver, he doesn't want to seem rude so he talks and ends up making music with Judah.

Raised as a Hassidic Jew, Judah loves music as well and wants to pursue it but can't do so in his religion. Judah is smothering under its control and knows he has to get out. When Judah has all he can take, he decides to tell his father that he can't be a priest as his father always expected. Judah tells his father that he no longer wants to live in their strict, religious community. What Judah does not dare tell his father is that he is attracted to men. His father throws him out with one condition; he can come back in the fold if he repents and gives up his “evil ways”. Alienated from his family and his faith, Judah still strives to live a pious life and remains celibate in hopes that his family will see he's still faithful, will forgive him, and take him back. Homeless and broke, Judah heads to New York to audition for 'The Right Note'. He feels this is his final chance to pursue his dream of becoming a musician. While waiting for his turn, Judah notices a young man, Denver, across the room. He feels inexplicably compelled to meet him. One thing leads to another and they spend some time singing together. Judah knows that his attraction to Denver may be disastrous, but as hard as he tries, Judah can't manage to stay away from him.

Denver has had enough trouble in relationships to last a lifetime, but he can't pretend not to be intrigued by Judah. He's difficult to figure out though and confuses him, but there's just something about him that Denver can't ignore. One moment Judah is flirting and the next, he's avoiding him. Denver decides the best course of action is to just let it go. Yet, when Denver sees that Judah is upset and needs help, his kind heart won't let him ignore it. Denver's generosity, even to someone who has been rude to him, softens Judah's heart. Denver's goodness draws him in. Things go well until it's time for a break from the show. Although Judah and Denver have never discussed it, Denver assumes that Judah will come home with him. When Judah's friends, who have come to see the show, find out Judah is homeless, they invite him to come stay with them. Denver overhears the offer before Judah has even had time to answer his friends. All of Denver's insecurities erupt to the surface and he overreacts in a hurtful, inappropriate manner. Before Judah has time to explain that he hasn't even agreed to go with his friends, Denver decides that Judah has betrayed him and storms out. With no prior experience in relationships, Judah has no idea what to do, so he says nothing and leaves with his friends instead of Denver. Their budding relationship seems to have withered and died.

Judah and Denver are victims of their past—Judah with his strict, unbending father and for Denver, his abusive lover, turned stalker. It's extremely difficult for them to trust their own feelings, much less each other’s. Once Judah accepts that he's gay and that he loves Denver, he's patient and understanding with him and, Denver, with his emotional swings caused by his anxiety and PTSD, needs all the support he can get from his boyfriend. My favorite part of the story was the 'finale.

If you like stories with young sexy men, angst, music, and overcoming seemingly insurmountable obstacles, then you may enjoy this book. Thanks, Nora, for the inspiring story and for reminding me that “Nobody puts Baby in a corner!”

Denver e Judah hanno in comune la stessa passione per la musica e il desiderio di rivincita nei confronti della vita che li ha messi a dura prova.
Si conoscono durante i provini per un talent show e immediatamente scatta tra loro un’attrazione magnetica impossibile da ignorare.
Judah è un rockettaro dal sorriso letale che con la sua voce graffiante ammalia il pubblico, sfacciato e provocante, le sue dita scorrono velocemente sulle corde della chitarra lasciando a bocca aperta chi lo ascolta.
Denver è un ragazzo solare, dolce, sorridente, sexy, altruista e dalla voce d’angelo.
Le apparenze però ingannano e questo libro ne è la prova.

Numerosi sono i temi che vengono raccontati attraverso la storia di questi ragazzi: l’estremismo religioso, il rifiuto della famiglia, l’indigenza, l’accettazione della propria sessualità, il coming out, la violenza domestica, lo stalking, il DPTS.
Denver e Judah portano un bagaglio emotivo davvero pesante, sono segnati da un passato che non li ha risparmiati e con fatica cercano non solo di raggiungere il proprio sogno come cantanti, ma anche di costruire un rapporto di coppia.

La giovane età di entrambi li porta spesso verso rotture e incomprensioni, di base una forte insicurezza li fa alle volte reagire d’impulso invece di dare voce alle proprie paure attraverso un confronto.
Le emozioni e le reazioni dei protagonisti sono saltuariamente un po’ sopra le righe, lo stile americano dello show, che caratterizza la narrazione, non si esaurisce davanti alle telecamere.

Originale l’idea di ambientare la storia durante un reality: la costruzione a tavolino dell’immagine dei concorrenti dietro le quinte,il cinismo e gli interessi economici del network sono elementi che arricchiscono la trama rendendola accattivante e interessante.
Nel libro spiccano le citazioni di numerose canzoni, mi è venuto naturale canticchiarle o andare a rivedere i video musicali che hanno scandito la mia adolescenza.

Una bella lettura ricca di colpi di scena, la scrittura è fresca e scorrevole, la storia tra Denver e Judah non è la solita storia d’amore ma un percorso di crescita e accettazione, consigliato.

The good: Denver and Judah are incredibly sweet together. I especially appreciate how fiercely loyal Judah is to Denver. They’re funny and mushy and all the ooey gooey feels I like are there. The book dips into a bit of BDSM, nothing too hard, but I like that it wasn’t all vanilla sex.

The bad: Some of the plot seemed too far fetched for me to get really into the story. Though Denver was confident and strong in the beginning of the book, he kind of ended up a mess towards the end. I get where the author was going but his whole storyline with his ex seemed a bit off to me.

The ugly: This book needs an editor. Even simple mistakes like an extra word here or there, or the wrong form of a homophone was present a bit too often. I’ve also said it before, but romance novels need a limit on the word “sensation”. It is a HUGE pet peeve of mine when “sensation” is used too many times during a sex scene.

All in all, a cute book.

As with so many of Nora's books, I got immersed in this book and felt like I was a part of the story. A wonderfully written story of two musical men and it's the little details that Nora provides that bring her stories to a whole other level. Many books about musicians don't feature the daily dedication to their art or how it's such a huge part of who they are... but Nora doesn't shy away from that and embeds it into the story in this book. It raises the profile of the characters and makes them so much more believable and connects them on new levels - making the story extra special and so much easier for the reader to connect.
The entire plotline is engaging and brilliantly written making for a story that grasps you from beginning to end.

4.5 stars. After reading the Irresistible Omega series, I don't know why I put off the rest of Nora Phoenix's books for so long. Granted, this is my only Nora book outside of that series, but it was so much better than I expected.

The tension was built so well, there were interesting conflicts throughout that got inflamed and resolved.. Nora is excellent at building plot and tension, no matter what the spice is doing.

I'm off to enjoy the rest of her catalog and report back, hopefully this wasn't a fluke and the majority of her super human sized catalog resembles the success of my previous reads!!

Very good story. Judah was raised in a strict religious family and was kicked out when he told his father he couldn't be a rabbi. Denver is a sweet twink with a crazy ex boyfriend stalker. They meet at a music talent show and sparks fly. Judah hiding from himself and Denver trying to live a fuller life.
