A stubborn brat. A smiling sadist. When play dips into risky territory, who can you trust?

Ewan wants. Nate gives. That's the nature of their play.

But what happens when Ewan asks for something Nate doesn't trust himself to give? Nate needs to trust that Ewan will say no when he needs it, and Ewan needs to believe that Nate will listen. This game is dangerous. One false step could leave both of them emotionally scarred. Still, Ewan wants, Nate can't help himself, and now they're in it together.

A Collar For His Brat is part of the Santa Rita Doms universe, and an ongoing serial.

YOU GUYS. As much as I LOVE Channon and Jack (and OMG do I LOVE them!) Nate and Ewan are just as equally amazing - possibly, maybe, just a smidge more so? Because I just love their dynamic together and how much is said and NOT said between them. Like, Channon and Jack have had their own relationship issues, but Channon is overall a very good boy, and Ewan is just NOT, and that's so interesting to read about.

Both are so afraid of messing up, for different reasons, and both are totally in love with the other and neither one can say it. And Ewan is just so damaged from his previous DS relationship and trying to not show it, and Nate is so afraid of messing things up and being like his ex. There are just so many great dynamics going on, especially in this story where they really take their play to another level.

Y'all, I just love them.

This series must be read in order - and honestly, if you like kink you MUST read His Boy Next Door, and then get into this series as well. Just read it all in order.

Bring on Season 4 of Channon/Jack, but also - keep giving me more novellas with Ewan and Nate, PLEASE!

I received an arc in exchange for an honest review.

ARC given from author for honest review

This was not what I was expecting in the best of ways. There’s real emotional progress here and seeing Ewan struggle to express how he feels makes you want to wrap him in a blanket and give him a hug. Nate is a little out of his depth but his honesty and vulnerability to want to be what Ewan needs just makes you love him more. I really love these two together and what’s growing between them.

This was the gentle, sweet calm before the hard-core BDSM-storm of the next book, Brute Force. Might give myself a few days to start that one.

I love these books. I loved His Boy Next Door and I’ve loved all 5 sections of A Collar for his Brat. Ewan is a unique sub. He’s more than just a brat. His insecurities and feelings of inadequacy show themselves in the way he fights his Dom, Nate. It sounds angsty and horrible, but it’s not. It’s actually sexy and heartwarming. Nate is just the perfect Dom for Ewan. This story needs to keep going.

I honestly cannot get enough of Ewan and Nate together. I love how sweet and caring Nate can be and then BAM, sadistic, relentless sex god. Nate is definitely one of my all time favourite m/m mcs.

I also loved seeing a more vulnerable side to Ewan in this one and getting to see him realise that Nate really does care for him and wants to keep him!

My only complaint is that these books are never long enough.

The whole time I was reading this story I wanted to scream with happiness. Nate and Ewan are by far my favorite people in this universe, and every time a new episode of their story comes out I drop everything to read it because I know it's always fantastic. Nate and Ewan are so obviously perfect for each other, and even though they still have a lot of issues to work through I find endless enjoyment in seeing all the silly, sweet, and filthy things they get up to.

For an episode this short, I felt like Nate and Ewan made significant strides in their relationship. They went on some very cute dates, had multiple rounds of breathtakingly kinky sex, and broke through some long-standing communication barriers. This couple has desperately needed to learn how to communicate for a while--if I had a dollar for every time Nate second-guessed himself or worried that he wasn't giving Ewan what he wanted I would be rich. I'm thrilled to see petulant, sulky Ewan finally understand why it's so important to talk to Nate about his desires. This episode does contain a scene-gone-wrong, but it was so pivotal for their communication breakthrough that I can't help but be happy it happened. I could see Ewan and Nate letting things go unsaid for far too long otherwise, and they really needed to have this talk.

The more I learn about Ewan's past with Gary, the more I understand why he acts the way he does. This episode is one of the first times Ewan is confronted with the falsity of what he thinks a D/s relationship should be, and it made me really sad to see Ewan so uncertain. He hides so much of what he's feeling under his prickliness, and I wish he would just let Nate care for him the way he deserves. Speaking of Nate, I thought it was so adorable how much of a lovestruck softie he's turning into when it comes to Ewan. The way he's so indulgent at times but so strict when Ewan needs him to be is the best juxtaposition. It made my heart absolutely sing when both Nate and Ewan admitted they loved each other, even if it was just to themselves.

I think it's a testament to how well RJM writes that I love Nate and Ewan as much as I love Jack and Channon and the brilliant part of this is how different the couples are but how real they both seem.

I fall for Ewan and his insecurities every episode. And then I fall for Nate and his ability to soothe and secure Ewan every episode.

The only thing I noticed this time, that I don't remember being an issue before was how the writing changed from Nate to Ewan's POV without any notice. I had to stop to figure out whose POV I was in and it was jarring at times.

I hope she has her mojo back and gets us another installment of Brat or Boy sooner than it took to get this last one. I miss these guys and the books go so fast when I'm reading them.

Dual POV which I love.

I love these two as a couple. The perfect amount of give and take. Their trust and dare I say love for one another is SO hot.
Ewan is a just the brat Nate needs.

Their dynamic is SO different than Jack and Channon and I love that. To get very different perspectives, it’s a treat.

I love this series and highly recommend it!

The good
+ Nate spending an entire morning being a massive brat and annoying Ewan
+ Safewording scene
+ The way Nate handled their first 'planned' CNC scene
+ Nate making Ewan communicate properly
+ Nate turning things Ewan doesn't like because they're too 'kind' into things Nate likes, so Ewan has to allow them to please Nate
+ Nate not believing in jealousy
+ Ewan making Nate point out all the people at the sex party he'd played and/or slept with in the past

The bad
- Ewan didn't want to safeword, which is fair. But why didn't he just 'test' his safeword in a not-dangerous setting? He could easily have safeworded during a random breakfast for example, just to see what would happen. That way he would know Nate would listen, and Nate would know Ewan knew how to use a safeword in the first place

Nate is trying so hard to read Ewan's mind, and he's actually pretty good at it. Especially considering I'm not so sure Ewan can read Ewan's own mind. I liked the praise, even if Ewan didn't. Very good character development, and therefore one of the most important novellas in the series.

*** I received an ARC of this book ***

This is a bit of a tricky one for me to review. You see, the story is quite a bit out of my comfort zone, but I’m also intrigued as all get out meaning I can’t stay away. So, tricky indeed.

In this 5th part of the serial, Ewan and Nate, a masochist and a sadist, are trying to set the boundaries defining their relationship. So this is obviously anything but vanilla. Ewan has a hard time trusting anyone, let alone a Dom, because of past trauma. Nate on the other hand is terrified of pushing too far and hurting Ewan (more than intended). At the same time they both need the other, not merely to fulfil some sexual kink quota, but on a deep emotional level.

I consider myself pretty damn open minded. But this level of hard core pain, domination and humiliation play that these guys are into is not particularly palatable to me. However, Ewan and Nate themselves, their struggles and their fates very much is. And I’m completely invested in their literary future.

Ewan in particular makes my heart bleed. He’s such a damaged individual. He appears to not be able to fully admit his needs even to himself, so expressing them to Nate is near impossible. Especially since he doesn’t dare trust his Dom, resenting him for it and at the same time feeling extreme self loathing .

It’s bloody heart-wrenching. Nate on the other hand has to walk that fine line of giving Ewan what he needs without going too far and simultaneously keep his own sadist tendencies from getting out of hand.

This read got me very emotional and I really felt for the characters. Ewan, the ultimate brat, is the kind of character you just want to smack over the head but also hug the hell out of and comfort. Interrupt is sweeter and – to my eyes – more loving than the previous Debug, but it’s still rough as hell. That makes rating it rather difficult.

Interrupt would be a 5-star to someone enjoying sadomasochistic reads, but since I only want Nate’s and Ewan’s story and need to see them thrive, I can’t rate it higher than 4.

Reading this kinky as all get out serial just for the characters and amazing portrayal of a complicated relationship sounds improbable, right? Kind of like saying you buy the pornos for the articles. Only, in my case it’s actually true. So, if you can handle the rough, I highly recommend this serial.

Trust is everything.

Ewan and Nate remain my favorite couple. This installment shows a softer side of these two, as Ewan fights to get what he wants without endangering himself, and Nate contends with his concerns about trust.

This is really 4.5 out of five, and only because it felt like there needed to be another scene or two.

I absolutely adore Ewan!!! He’s such a brat but there is sooooo much more to him!! I love how Nate is with him. These two are my favorite!! ❤️❤️ They are sooooo in love with each other but afraid to show it...Ewan, because of the mess with his last Ds relationship and Nate, because he really really REALLY doesn’t want to lose Ewan. These guys are absolutely adorable together and I love how even though Nate says he can’t read Ewan, he most definitely can in all the ways that matter. The progression of this relationship is a beautiful thing.

Oh wow. I've always love Nate and Ewan together, because these characters just seem even more....them...when we see them together, but also vulnerable in ways they never show anyone. This book is an incredible step in their relationship. I just feel emotional after finishing it. There is just so much raw emotional and hidden emotions and depths of care and want and so much I just can't even put it into words.

I really want more of them. More snippets into their lives, even if it's not them together. I just love them both so much.

I got an Advanced Reader's Copy of this book and am very slow in writing my new review. But regardless, I enjoyed this entry a lot! I'm going to write this review for people who have already read the series (since it won't make much sense without having done so) but briefly: Nate and Ewan are a kinky couple who have been slowly getting closer. Ewan has issues stemming from both his own demons and an abusive prior relationship. He's also a massive brat (a submissive role or label in BDSM) who likes being a shit so that his dom will punish him - even if he doesn't actually "like" the punishment (like many D/s dynamics, brat/dom play involves a lot of dual consciousness). In this episode, Ewan and Nate move their relationship forward as Ewan and Nate start pushing the boundaries of what they are both comfortable with in their play.

I like, again, how Moray can focus in on one specific aspect of the dom/brat dynamic and explore the dangers with Ewan and Nate (obviously while continuing to have a compelling story). Consensual nonconsent has been a THING for Ewan for a while now, and Ewan, like many brats I know, wants to be able to avoid the work on his side of things. Ewan has to be able to show Nate that he has the ability to protect himself if they start doing riskier play (which they've already been doing a bit of). It's a conversation we don't always have the best discussion on, Doms (who aren't psychopaths) being able to play safely means they have to be able to rely on their sub actually enjoying what they're doing to them (or stopping it if they aren't), otherwise there's this grave feeling of risk and danger of really hurting a person that saps the play out of it. And providing that safety rail is part of the work of the sub. Anyway, Ewan - the little shit - fights this both because it ruins a little bit of the fantasy (in the way safe words always do) - because we all wish our doms were mind readers in our hearts, and so we wouldn't have to do the work - and because of his own inner demons around the abuse he's suffered. Robin does an excellent job of navigating this territory with both characters. Another excellent entry in an excellent series.

Oh, also: I continue to appreciate having the outside perspective on Jack and Channon (the author's companion series' protagonists). Jack, being the vainest person on the planet (Jack thinks Carly Simon wrote a song about him - and he's RIGHT), thinks he doesn't have problems with negotiating safe words and consent with Channon, which again just goes to show how stuck up his own ass Jack is at this point in his own story. I like this because it lends a moral perspective that can be a bit missing in a series where both POV characters are OBSESSED with Jack Nash (which, tbc, is one of the highlights of that series and not a knock against it). Anyway, continue to read Collar for His Brat for the laughing at Jack behind Jack's back bits too.

Another great installment of this series!!! STEAM ✔️ KINK✔️ ROMANCE✔️ LAUGHS✔️. We see more from the beginning of Nate and Ewan’s relationship. I love that we’re getting the back story on them and seeing things from their POVs...I fell in love with Nate and Ewan when I was reading the Boy Next Door series (Jack/Channons). Between the 2 couples, I have to say these guys might be my fave. They are a little more dark/edgy, which I enjoy.
This is one of my favorite authors, her books are so well written, which honestly is kinda hard to come by in the kink/bdsm genre. I recommend these for anyone who likes the BDSM Romance genre. These are easy reads, not overly angsty but they aren’t shallow either. I’m always invested in the characters and story lines. My only “complaint” is that I’m impatient for what’s to come between everyone and can’t wait for the next!!

(PSA: The Collar For His Brat takes place along side the Boy Next Door timeline. For those who haven’t already I highly recommend reading Jack/Channon’s series to get the most out of these books)

I really enjoy BDSM romances, and what I love about this series is that the characters are ones I feel like I can totally meet at a BDSM club.

In this book I particularly enjoyed how Ewan's desire for a certain scene is described - on the one hand he really wants to experience a certain form of domination, but during the couple of experiences he doesn't lose himself completely.
He still experiences fear and worries and admits to his own, personal, limitations.

Nate is also a character I appreciate because as a Dom he's very much a planner - he wants to fulfill his sub's wishes and finds creative ways to give these wishes his own interpertation.
Ewan is not an easily trusting partner and Nate is aware that his trust is one that will be hard-earned. Part of his attraction is that challenge. But he is not a mind-reader, and he is very well-aware of that fact, and their interactions go through bumps and hitches which make it, in my eyes, very close to the reality I know of romantic pairings - whether vanilla, kinky or otherwise.
Personally, I could relate better to this couple than to Jack and Channon.

The writing is very intelligent. It contains well-thought out characters and BDSM scenes, and everything feels very well-researched. The story progresses smoothly and you can immerse yourself in the sexy scenes, budding romance and the wonderful banter between the two MCs.

Nate and Ewan's relationship really evolves in this installment and I liked it a lot. Dare I say maybe a little more than Jack and Channon? It's just such a more complex dynamic and relationship. They really truly love each other, and it comes shining through in this book, but they are still struggling and trying to figure out how to communicate with each other. They had major breakthroughs and it really helped move their relationship forward. This installment also had a sweetness element to it that I loved! Who knew Nate could be such a romantic? And that extra bonus scene was gold!!! Cannot wait for more of these two!

Treading into dangerous waters

I tend to think of Ewan as a scabbed over scrape.
It's tender to the touch, but you just can't help poking at the wound.
Ewan guards his heart zealously because of his past and he really doesn't trust his own judgement.
Which is where Nate steps in and gives him the freedom of submitting while still maintaining his aloof manner.
Nate also finally shows a tender and romantic side that I absolutely loved.
These two are just so perfect for each other.

Another brilliant instalment of this engaging couple. This time the couple is challenged by wants which push boundaries but invariably bring those pesky emotions out. Not a sweet and sappy tale - but a raw and edgy BDSM story, full of realism and characters you can identify with. Can't wait for the next fix!!

The communication is really getting better between Nate and Ewan. Ewan has so many walls built up, but Nate is slowly taking them down. It's difficult after the trauma that Ewan went through with his last relationship. I thought the "L" word might even happen this time, but I'll have to wait a little longer. *sigh* I fall more and more in love with both Nate and Ewan in each book.

More please

One ends and then I have to patiently (darn it) wait for the next installment. This episode was definitely more sweet than hardcore which made for a nice change in Nate and Ewan's dynamic and relationship.

Growth

Ewan has a lot of growth in this part of the story. Nate has to force him to do it, but the fight is worth it to see him happy. I love how much Nate cares for him.

Another great look at the importance of communication in a power-exchange relationship. The angst level is higher here, but I'm rooting for these characters and thoroughly enjoyed this installment.
