Dear Reader,

While expecting my first child (more years back than I care to count), I read my very first romance novel, and I've been in love with them ever since. I grew up in the ranch country of western Nebraska, and it was inevitable I’d eventually write lots of books about cowboys. I still live in Nebraska with my husband (who is not a cowboy), four married daughters and a whole slew of perfect grandchildren.

I'm a long-time member of RWA and RAH, my local chapter. I'm also one of the founders of Petticoats & Pistols, a popular blogsite for western romance. I love to cook, hang out at my lake cabin, and decorate birthday cakes for anyone who will let me.

This book is so interesting and made me think about how many changes there have been since the western days. A well respected physician came to Cord’s Texas town asking his boss to send someone with him to Kansas to guard a prisoner for the doctor to do an experiment. The interesting part was something I take for granted now, he wants to do a blood transfusion with the prison’s daughter to see if it will help the prisoner get better as he is about to die. The prisoner’s daughter Harriett is a hard working woman who wants to raise cattle. Her father is helping her to start up a heard. Unfortunately Harriett has no idea she was adopted and that her biological father is an outlaw! I so enjoyed how Cord was so gentle with her and she felt safe with him. I loved her 16 year old brother who had some mischievous stunts of his own that he thought would help his sister. There were a lot of emotions going on in this book, even with the town people. If you like western romances, then I strongly encourage you to read the book. I was given a copy of the book and voluntarily wrote a review.

Pam Crooks always delivers historical fiction that I enjoy reading. Harriet is adopted. When faced with this truth, she learns that the bond of love heaped upon her by Trace and Morgana McQuade embodies a love too deep to turn away. U.S. Deputy Marshall, Cord Brennan, enters her life at the right time. She’s in a dilemma, meets her biological father face-to-face, is expected to offer him her blood in a transfusion to better his life albeit he is deathly ill, and Cord causes Harrie’s heartstrings to tug. The interplay within the family is endearing to say the least. Charlie, Addy, the grandparents all add to the charm of this book. Such a sweet romance, tender family relationships, and honest love. Another wonderful book by author Pam Crooks.

I'M NOT THE PERSON I THINK I AM, AM I?

The series will be multiple stories by various authors, but each story will read well as a stand-alone. The story is a clean western historical with a touch of history. The story is a spin-off from this author's book, Trace (Bachelors and Babies Book 1), where Trace and Morgana meet and marry and adopt a little girl. Now, move forward nineteen years to the Spring of 1899 for the new story.

The story begins in San Antonio, Texas, where Cord is called into his supervisor's office and given the task of escorting Dr. Flexnor, of New York, and prisoner, William Hayse, aka 'Slick-Shot' Billy Hayes to Wallace, Kansas. Hayse is dying of a blood disorder, and the Rockefeller Institute has sponsored Dr. Flexnor for Medical Research. Using the discovery of Karl Landsteiner from Austria, they know more about blood and want to transfuse blood from a living relative into prisoners to learn more.

Harriet McQuade, nineteen, is a strong woman, starting her own herd of Angus cattle—but her life is ready to go into a tailspin with shocking news. What a shock to learn that the people you considered your parents are not your birth parents at all. The information has her dissolution, and when she takes off, Marshall Cord Brennan goes after her. Maybe someone that is a stranger can be more of a sounding board that a family member she might say something hurtful to.

The story is full of angst, secrets, discoveries, tension, mystery, suspense, danger, and a slow-simmering romance. It will have a teenaged brother who sees the perfect man, Cord, for his older sister, Harriet. Harriet will have to come to terms with her adopted parents, her biological parents, and herself. Has her entire life been a lie? Then there are the feelings she has for Cord, a Texas Marshall who is only here for his job and will be leaving after donating her blood to a criminal.

"You ride into my life, and make me fall in love with you, and then you just leave. As easy as that." To her horror, her chin quivered. "Do you even realize how that makes me feel?"

When the job is done, Harriet has either agreed or denied Dr. Flexnor the much-needed blood for a transfusion; what will happen to her and Cord? He has plans back in Texas, getting his father to a new orthopedic doctor, getting them in a house, preferably a ranch. Harriet has her life in Kansas, even if it will forever be changed. Will this be goodbye?

"From here on out, his life would change forever."

I enjoyed the story of Harriet "Harrie" McQuade and U.S. Marshall Cord Brennan. I haven't read all of the Bachelors and Babies books, but now I want to go back and read them.

"Were you being a matchmaker, like some sort of—of Cupid, hoping we'd get hitched or something?" she asked."

Kicking off another novella-read weekend, this is the second book that I have read by Pam Crooks, a new author to this reader.

"Harriett (Cupids and Cowboys #1) was an interesting story a bit of history. We have Harriett who has been adopted by an ex-bounty hunter and a dying outlaw father who a NY doctor wishes to save. The catch is that they need Harriett's blood to do this and thus is where she finds out her family's secret of her being adopted not to mention creating a scandal. In walks Cord who is in need of a wife before he returns to his ailing father and they both get married in the process.

Such a wonderful plot and written story. As I've liked my first read by Ms. Crooks, this was not different. I enjoyed the H/h and their building relationship to love. I also loved both characters strong will and convictions that made this a very nice and enjoyable read.

When Cord is asked to escort a prisoner to Kansas from Texas for a medical procedure, he isn't interested. He has his father to think about, but when he is told there will be a bonus at the end of the trip, he decides to go. There Cord is to meet with the daughter of the criminal and she will give him blood to heal him. Cord and the doctor arrive and find out that Harriett doesn't know anything about her real parentage. Harriett reacts badly and Cord is the only one able to comfort her. Her whole life has been a lie. Her safe world is turned upside down. She needs to decide if she will help her biological father. As Cord watches over Harriett, they grow closer, but knows nothing can come of it as she lives in Kansas and his life is in Texas. Can they find a middle ground?

Great history lesson

Harrie's father has been in prison for several years and is slowly dying. A New York doctor wants to try saving him by using his daughter's blood. Harrie didn't know that she was adopted until Cord (the sheriff) show up in Kansas with her biological father in tow until they show up at the ranch. Harrie is very upset by the news because Trace and Morgana ( her adoptive parents) never found the right time to tell her. None of them has ever heard of using someone's blood to save another person, either, so it was a scary prospect, too. Harrie's younger brother decides that Harrie needs to be married, so he plays matchmaker for she and Cord. Very well written and interesting through and through.

I received an ARC of this book via Bookfunnel and this is my voluntary and honest review. I have never read a book by Pam Crooks and I enjoyed this one and hope to read more. This is Harriet and Cord's love story with Charlie, Harriet's sixteen year old brother, playing Cupid. It was comical reading about some of his antics. There is some action involving an outlaw intertwined in the story as well as the beginnings of how blood transfusions started. I highly recommend this book for the entertainment level and as a clean romance with a HEA ending.

No one would have blamed Harriett for refusing to go through a new, experimental procedure to help save a person she has never known, a person who is in prison for crimes he had committed. Marshall Cord Brennan had brought the prisoner to Kansas for the procedure but things don’t do exactly to plans. An unlikely matchmaker was at work to keep Cord from returning to Texas. Pam Crooks has given us an fun story with an exciting and educational story line, interesting characters, humor, danger and romance. I thoroughly enjoyed the story.

Cord and Harriett

This is a sweet loving story written by Pam Crooks. Harri was the eldest of three. Beautiful with a streak of wild independence and determination, only to be knocked for a loop by discovering she was adopted and had been gathered by an outlaw. Cord was aDeputy Marshal for Texas and assigned to duty protecting her. The inevitable they fall in love. You will enjoy discovering how they find their happily ever after.

Cord, an US Marshall, has been tasked with collecting a criminal and taking him, with a doctor, to Wallace, so the doctor can remove blood from the prisoner's daughter, Harriet, to potentially give the criminal a longer life and for research purposes.
Harriet doesn't know that her parents are not her biological parents. She's shocked and rushes away, Charlie, her younger brother, decides to act as a matchmaker.

A great, easy to read, exciting story.

I enjoyed this great cowboy western romance with unforgettable characters and a lovely story that kept me entertained and intrigued from the beginning and I wanted it to continue when I got to the end. I loved the sweet and tender romance between Harriett McQuade and US Marshall Cord Brennan. This is the first book I have read by Pam Crooks and a wonderful start to the Cupids and Cowboys series. I received an advance reader copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving my review.

Harriet is a stand-alone book that is the first in the Cupids and Cowboys series. It is fascinating seeing how new health technology was received with fear, uncertainty and hope in 1899. Upheavals in her life and very existence, fear and a kidnapping attempt will plague Harriet before she can wade through her own emotions and find out if lasting love is meant for her. Wonderful insight into small western town life in the old west.

Interesting.

I did not realise that this was a follow on from the Bachelors and Babies series which I really enjoyed. It was a few chapters in when I realised why the name Trace seemed familiar and then the plot appeared familiar.
This book was different of course and I missed the Bachelors looking after babies but it is good to find out about how things turned out and what life was like twenty years later.

WOW! What a wonderful sweet story. I loved how Charlie tried getting his sister, Harrie, and Cord together. I liked how the story introduced us to the beginning of blood transfusion. I loved seeing Trace and Morgana again and how their lives have progressed. Thank you Pam Crooks for a sweet story in the beginning of another great collaborative series by such talented authors.

Harriett (Cupids and Cowboys Book 1)

This is a wonderful beginning to this new series and I enjoyed this first book written by Pam Crooks. Filled with interesting characters, especially Charlie, the heroine's brother, had me laughing at times. I enjoyed the sweet storyline, as the story flowed from one page into another. I loved the hero and heroine, Cord and Harriett and I enjoyed the twists and turns of following them to a hard won HEA. JudyE

I found this book rather interesting as wrapped up in the romance was historical information on the beginning of blood transfusion. Harriett is a strong female lead, who finds out unexpectedly she is adopted when a Dr at the for front of blood transfusion comes to ask her to donate to save her convict father. A jail break, a match making brother and a father who is an amputee add to the story.

Well written and recommended. Her life is turned upside down when the truth of who she is comes out among other things. I don't want to ruin the story for you by telling you anymore. It is exciting, run of emotions, has surprises, twists and turns and so much more. I received a review copy and voluntarily review it.

I was really upset when I realized that the Bachelors & Babies cycle was finished. What would I look forward to reading each month? I just love the second generation concept in Cupids and Cowboys. The "Babies" are all grown up and ready for their own "Cupids". It makes me want to re-read the B&B corresponding book again.

I received a free advance review copy of this book and am voluntarily providing my honest review. Harrie finds out some things about her life that upset her and she runs away, but Cord follows her and talks to her and settles her down. This is the first of many conversations they have that lead to something else. I really enjoyed this book and recommend it.

Great Story

I loved Charlie, a teenager who tried to play Cupid for his sister, Harriett. she and Cord did not make it easy for him, but he didn't give up. Interesting use of a medical advancement and a surprise disruption added to the action and suspense. A great read.

Harriet and a Marshal

This is a sad but heartwarming book. Harriet finds out information that was kept from her and she handles it very well eventually. Her brother is a welcome addition to the story. Was surprised at the medical addition for the period. This is a good clean book

Little brothers...

Sometimes little brothers do see more clearly than they are given credit for seeing.
Sometimes adult children should listen more closely to an aging parent.
