She’s all that stands between him and his dream. But maybe it’s time for a new dream...

Princess Alessa is finally free. Now that her sister is Queen and their rightful place in Atharia is secure, she can embark on a Season in London and begin work to help the less fortunate. Or she could—if only her gruff, blunt, and entirely too handsome guard would stay out of her way...

Rowan Oakley is on the verge of having the wealth and security he’s always craved. All he must do to earn it is kill the fiery, obstinate, and very enticing Alessa. It’s an easy assignment. Or it would be—if only he could keep his thoughts (and mouth) off his target...

It’s not long before Rowan is caught between what he’s always wanted, and the prospect of a love he never expected. But in the end, is happily ever after even a possibility for a royal and the poor, former street urchin sent to kill her?

The author is clearly very popular and well liked, so perhaps I have simply been unlucky in reading a book that I found utterly improbable, with characters who were unsympathetic, and an execution which was boringly pedestrian and really quite clumsy in places. I really don’t get all the 5 star reviews. I am sorry to be so critical as I am sure the author worked very hard on this, but I really disliked this book.

Virtually everything about this story irritated or annoyed me. There is no real sense of time or place in this book. It might as well have been set in 21st century Brazil for all the historical or geographical context it revealed.

A foreign monarchy with a Queen called Holly? A hero who is prepared to kill a woman for money and we are supposed to like him? A princess who behaves like a naive child, villains who manage to infiltrate Crown security services? Finally, at the end, there’s the two year separation of the lovers - wtf?

Everything about the fantasy world the author created was just so incredibly ridiculous and unbelievable that I could not suspend disbelief. If it had been advertised as a fairy story set in another dimension or alternate reality, I might have been able to read it but instead I ended up skimming through. Nothing made sense and even the sex scenes were stilted and mechanical.

This was definitely not my cup of tea. I’ll stick to Lisa Kleypas, Loretta Chase, Stella Riley, Christi Caldwell, Julia Quinn, Mary Balogh et al and read well written historical romance which offers a more authentic approach to historical reality, well rounded characters and well developed plot lines, while still entertaining me.

What's a princess to do? Princess Alessa is finally having her season in London, since her sister has been crowned Queen of their country. What she doesn't realize is there are people wanting to kill her and her life is in danger.

Bodyguard Rowan has a lot to hide. He has been recruited to kill Alessa, and he will be paid a lot of money and be able to live his life in a much better manner than how he grew up.

But that little spark of attraction turns into much more and he gets to know her and her heart. If he backs out of doing the job, he knows there will be someone else after her! Now he becomes her protector.

Wonderful characters, terrific dialogue and a journey to a happy ever after, worth the trip!

Princess Alessa is finally free. Now that her sister is Queen and their rightful place in Atharia is secure, she can embark on a Season in London and begin work to help the less fortunate. However her footsteps are dogged by her two bodyguards Marco & Rowan Oakley. Rowan is on the verge of having the wealth and security he’s always craved. All he must do to earn it is kill the fiery, obstinate, and very enticing Alessa. It’s an easy assignment. It’s not long before Rowan is caught between what he’s always wanted, and the prospect of a love he never expected.
The second book in the series which could easily be read on its own but I’m a sucker for a series & just have to read them from the beginning, so if you’re like me then I'd recommend reading the start.. I loved how the relationship between Alessa & Rowan evolved & adored how his character grew & changed. Alessa was a princess with a heart of gold who really helped those in need, she was caring, compassionate & loyal. Rowan seemed very dour at the beginning but guarding Alessa opened his eyes too. The attraction between the pair sizzled but both realised that they came from too great a divide. I loved how the author effortlessly mingled the frothiness of society with the darker side of the capital. There was despair, sadness, joy & hope. I loved the twist in the epilogue, which left me smiling
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

The writing in this book seems juvenile and unpolished, am not sure why. I have read a number of Author 📚Gill's novels and have never come across this before. Very disappointing.

TERRIFIC!!! A Royal Proposition by Tamara Gill is book 2 in The Royal House of Athariaseries and though in a series this book can be read as a standalone. I found this book a true delight to read and it took me back to London in the 1800s. What I just loved about this book is that a guard can fall in love with a princess if only he did’t have to kill her. What a great twist Tamara Gill put in this story. I found the characters wonderful, it was easy to read and a real original. I alway’s find Tamara Gill’s book to fantastic and this did not disappoint. This story has a princess, a guard that grew up on the streets, needing money to survive, going to London for the season, thinking one is safe, protection, supporters of a dead evil uncle, revenge, kindness, setting up a women’s home as well as a orphanage, doing what’s right, rescue and falling in love. I am highly recommending you read this book. It was a true delight to read.

When her kindness disrupts his well thought agenda …

One more author I lost track because of too much books to read, not enough time, change in the arc team setting, blah blah blah.
But for once, I was in time to claim this one.
I confess I am not fan of royals tales, too much protocols and rules, not enough spontaneities.
So I was not sure this story was truly for me.
In that, my thoughts mimicked perfectly those of the hero.
And their difference in status makes even more their romance an impossible fit. They are more than star-crossed lovers, it is a whole universe that separates them.

Having not read the previous book, I have no real idea of how was the heroine’s life before, yet I do not think she suffered from hunger or had to fight for her life like the hero. Alessa appears at first like many wealthy people totally oblivious of the plight of the poor, she dresses in expensive gowns and wears precious gems all the while mingling with people of the same breeding.
Thus she looks like the pampered Miss intrigued and drown to the bad guy, as he breaths danger. Until she shows she is much more than her blue blood, that she has a much compassionate nature. But is Rowan too damaged to accept that whatever good she does, even the littlest possible, is still a spark of hope in a world filled by despair. While she can not save everyone, the fews that are, will not be gracing the bottom of the Thames or make more victims.

I expected a light read, and while the romance part is sweet and sexy with a lovely ending, the background plot is swarming of darkness and violence, with the ugliest of the gutters brought to life putting threats on the heroes’ path.
To summarize, I have been happily surprised by this story, not what I have anticipated. A great tale of doomed lovers with a dark twist and an even sweeter conclusion.

I loved Alessa and Rowan's story of enemies to lovers of showing how riches can give way to compassion and altruism. It shows how love can spring between two people with such diverse backgrounds of luxury and poverty and that you should never prejudge anyone until you truly know them.

Princess Alessa is finally being allowed to go to London for the Season, however her sister insists on bodyguards to be present at all times for every ball, soiree, luncheon and social occasion imaginable. Her main focus will be to establish the Atharia Woman's Shelter in London serving the poor and those most in need of help. A part of her also hopes to have what her sister (the Queen) and her husband have a love that doesn't care about class, status or position a husband who will love her for who she is and not for what her status will bring him. She hates that she has no freedom and that her bodyguards stern and disapproving visages are scaring off any eligible gentleman that may wish to court her. Bodyguards that may stop her fulfilling her dreams of building a woman's shelter for those in need.

Rowan Oakley has always wanted to make something of himself he was born poor, living on the streets living by his wits, building alliance, making bribes and ending lives when all else failed.  Alessa has no idea that a bodyguard hired to protect her has another employer one that will stop at nothing to see her dead, an employer who is none other than her deposed late uncle's closest confidant Roberto Delenza. The money he will pay Rowan for killing Alessa will be enough for him to start a new life in America far away from his poor beginnings where he could blend in and where no-one knows his background as a hired thug and killer.

What they both don't bank on is their mutual attraction for each other as they spend more time with each other, as prejudices are overturned and new insights change their opinions of each other. Ultimately will Rowan be able to take the life of someone he has come to care for and will Alessa ever be able to forgive Rowan his deception and deceit. Can their love survive such a huge social gap, deceit and betrayal.

A princess meets her roguish protector and finds compassion and true love.

This is the 2nd tale in Tamara Gill’s “Royal House of Atharia” series that again exhibits her fantastic writing skills. Ms. Gill has penned an additional delightfully engaging book. The characters are marvelously, likeable, the plot is wonderfully engaging, and has the reader rooting for an HEA. Put this book on your “To Read” list.
Princess Alessa of Atharia is in London for the Season so that she might find a suitable match. Because that have been death threats against the Princess, additional local (English) security guards has been employed to protect her. Rowan Oakley, a rough burley. but roguishly handsome guy is one of these additional guards. Unbeknownst to the princess’ security team, Rowan has been entices by the promise of more money than he will ever need to kill the princess. As it happens, once he gets to know the princess as a wonderful person, he decides that he cannot do the deed and the only way he can truly protect her is to kill the men who offered him the job. As they interact the Princess comes to the know Rowan as a truly honorable gentleman, and he wants to show her that he is what she thinks him to be. They end up falling for each other, but Rowan sees that it is an impossible situation and he can never be her match. After an attempt on her life the bottom falls out of everything. The reader can’t help but to fall in love with the Alessa and Rowan. The surprises at the end keep the reader on edge and awaiting what could be the worst. It is a wonderful ending and you don’t want to miss it.

I am generally a fan of Tamara Gill’s books, and enjoy the idea behind the ‘Royal House of Atharia’ series. “A Royal Proposition” is the second book in that series, although you can enjoy it as a stand-alone.

Without giving away too much of the plot, Princess Alessa is visiting London in search of a husband be fitting her royal status. Political intrigue from her home country has resulted in continued danger to her life, so she has a security team accompanying her everywhere. Rowan is a handsome Englishman on that team. Unbeknownst to everyone, Rowan is also in the employ of those seeking to kill her. He’s a man who had survived a terrible existence since he was born and he’s willing to do just about anything to get money to start over somewhere else. When he realizes that Princess Alessa is actually a good person, the thought of killing her becomes intolerable – but those who want her dead aren’t going to yield in their efforts to accomplish their goal.

My biggest issue with this book was a few dramatic jumps in the story that take place without us experiencing anything more than a brief summation. For example, we’re told that Rowan has a brief conversation with a fellow bodyguard and as a result he totally changes his mind about his lethal intentions toward the Princess. The conversation itself isn’t shared with us, yet it’s what might be the most pivotal moment of the whole story. I have great respect for this author’s work but some of the decisions about how to present this particular story just didn’t work well for me.

Absolutely unreadable. I wanted to finish this book b/c it has one of my favorite tropes (rich girl/poor boy), but even on hate-read skim mode, I had to quit 1/3 of the way through. The writing was just SO bad. For example: "'The princess is well-guarded. They will not get to her unless through us.' Or by us, he inwardly snickered." Inwardly snickered? I'm surprised the author didn't have him rub his hands, twirl a mustache and stroke a bald cat, too. The characters constantly contradict themselves. The princess goes on about how she'll never be allowed to marry anyone not highly titled and rich ... then a couple pages later, she muses that she must marry for love, not status or wealth, or such a union will never work. Also, this supposedly innocent, high-born woman who's conscious of her duty to marry well, is tongue-kissing and dry-humping her bodyguard during a ball by chapter 4 (and these are short chapters).

Besides the unbelievability of her forgetting her duty and decorum so quickly over a man she supposedly doesn't even like (and the bodyguard foregoing his plan to kill her so quickly), there are just so many terrible, obvious errors. Has the author never read any other British historical romances? Or done a quick Google search? Dukes are styled "THE Duke OF Sutherland," not "Duke Sutherland," as she constantly refers to him, like Duke is his first name. A high-born woman would never have a man in her bedroom, especially when she's only in a nightgown, even if it's her secretary. I get that this isn't a documentary, but I really find obvious errors like that distracting and sloppy.

Tamara Gill’s “A Royal Proposition” is book two in The Royal House of Atharia series. I have always enjoyed Tamara Gill’s writing and found her to be a very talented author.

Now that her sister is Queen, Princess Alessa is free to attend her season in London where she seeks a husband befitting her status and has plans to work to help the less fortunate. If only her thoroughly handsome bodyguard wasn’t always in her way.

Rowan Oakley Is a man on assignment but not to protect the Princess but to kill her. In doing so he’ll become a wealthy man. Quite an accomplishment for a former street urchin. Soon he realizes the princess is really a good person and he begins to fall in love with her but the forces that want her killed will not be stopped.

For me the story was too short and that’s just a personal preference because I hate for a good story to end. I thought it was a great plot and really liked the storyline and the whole premise behind the plot. I wasn’t certain about Rowan, at first but he did become a wonderful hero and honorable man. I seem to like it when the bad guys see the error of their ways. Alessa was a truly good person at heart and did what is she going to help those less fortunate.

Wonderful characters, a great plan and a beautiful ending make the story well worth the read!

Thank you so much Ms. Gill For this delightful story. I look forward to reading the next book in the series.

Ok 1. Immersion ruined by use of Tulle and a corset again bare skin, no chemise. It made it hard to suspend disbelief

2. Time period not established. Hell this could have been set in the 2010s for all I know. Despite the use of a year in the epilogue. Modern clothing, slang and turns of phrase used.

3. Was I supposed to like either of these characters? Because he was there to kill her for money. And she mourned for her supposed ‘childhood friend’ for a paragraph at most (for the uninitiated that’s not how grief works) and tended towards spoiled Princess a lot.

4. This plot made ZERO SENSE. Why did they need to infiltrate when it was made ABUNDANTLY clear they could just shoot her in the street? Just why? Also His turn and sudden asking of questions as to why his employer would want the seemingly innocent dead would have worked better if he had actually bothered to you know THINK about the situation in book. Also also the chemistry felt forced. One minute he’s hating her because of the rich situation she was born into (which also isn’t fair on her) and the next he’s tonguing her tonsils. It was an ‘that escalated quickly’ situation on steroids.

‘A Dark Affair on Dower Street’ by Jillian Eaton does a VERY similar plot, but you know better.

Princess Alessa is in London for a season and her sister absolutely insists on bodyguards for her. Princess Alessa is convinced that one of them hates her. Rowan can't stand Princess Alessa she's just like the rest of the Ton. Rowan is also going to kill her. Contracted by her uncles henchman and hired assassin's he is going to do the job and have enough money to live on. But as Rowan comes to know Alessa and how she is so different from the Ton it's a race against time to save her...

This is such an AMAZING story ❤️ I love it! It's original, suspenseful with an antihero finding his way out of the darkness of the poverty he lived in; Alessa is kind to those around her and to those the Ton overlooks. The characters are richly described, with their flaws and strengths making them realistic and compelling to read. Told from dual POVs reveals intimately their thoughts feelings and emotions as they explore their relationship, outrun assassins and a suspicious queen!! There's an epilogue and a HEA 💓

Great story line but it just wasn't for me.
I'm a fan of Tamara Gill and have loved some of her other works but this book fell short for me.
Mostly it lacked depth all around. The premise is there for a great story but it needed more story and more of the characters. It felt superficial, short, and hastily written and so many redundancies! Too many times readers were told the same thing over and over again.
For me, Princess Alessa was snobby and spoiled and adding in attempts to show her charity work only made it worse because when she was snobby it really showed. Rowan was a great character who again, should have been expanded on. He fell way too fast for her.
I felt that I did not know the characters at all and their getting together merely superficial. I did not believe in their love, it was more of an affair.
I did not read the first book of the series but did not need to, it is a stand-alone story. I remain a fan of Ms. Gill and will certainly read her future works but just didn't care for this one.
I received an advanced copy in exchange for a review.

This is book two in the Royal House of Atharia series. I did not read the first book and do not felt that it hindered my enjoying this book. This book does fine as a standalone.

Princess Alessa is in London to enjoy the season. She has a number of bodyguard, including Rowan Oakley, who unbeknownst to her was hired to kill her. As he gets to know the Princess, and sees the good heart she has he realizes he could never hurt her as she is an innocent. I loved watching these two come together. Rowan is everything you want a romantic hero to be and Alessa doesn't care where he comes from. She just knows how she feels about him.

The trope is definite class difference. This is a very steamy book with open door scenes that will have you fanning yourself.

I received a free ARC of this book from Booksprout. This is my honest opinion.

After the turmoil in her own country, Princess Alessa is thrilled to be in London for the Season. Rowen Oakley is hired to guard the princess while she is in London. He has also been hired to kill her. Not exactly a good beginning for a love story. An unintended kiss sets the stage for a new attitude and a new mission for Rowen. Alessa is a good and kind person, and he will protect her and go after the real villains. This is a story fraught with danger, and steeped deceit and betrayal, but there is also rescue, redemption, and love. The two main characters are an odd combination, but it makes for an interesting journey to happily ever after. There is a tense unpredictable conclusion to the story and a surprising epilogue. An exciting addition to the series. I recommend it.

Watching Alessa and Rowan interact despite different perspectives, roles and social classes was interesting to watch unfold. I liked Rowan’s simple/troubled beginnings giving him knowledge snd contacts within the seedier part of society. Alessa struck me as a pure soul- seeing through her recent experiences with an abusive uncle to empathize with other women and children less fortunate. It was nice to see some of this empathy/awareness bleed into her understanding of Rowan. The resulting turmoil and suspense kept me reading on to see what would happen next. Overall, this was an enjoyable story with wonderful characters and a unique twist on the plot.

I thought this book was very intriguing and I truly enjoyed it. This is one of those books that I feel is going to surprise you. I try very hard never to give spoilers, so all I'll say is that this read has moor to offer than a pretty face. I thought the characters were quite likable and I enjoyed the attraction and chemistry between them. Plus, I found it exceptionally easy to sympathize with each of them. Alessa and Rowan snuck right into my heart and gave me plenty of feels along the way. The romance and steam are paired well with tension, suspense and turmoil to create a thoroughly enjoyable read that has you swooning while it also touches your heart. Can a bad boy from the wrong side of the tracks throw away his desires for money and security to protect the one he has been hired to destroy? You know money is a power motivator but Rowan soon realizes that it is not the only motivator. Kindness trumps this time. Rowan is my type of man. I picture him as a big, burly, rough type but deep down he is a softie. It is so easy to root for someone like Rowan. Alessa is all over this rough around the edges guy and she shows him compassion. I love their journey. It is forbidden, it is sexy and it is oh so sweet. But wait, she leaves to go back to her country and he stays. No, no, no. That is not how romances work…or do they? Read and find out what happens.

After her wicked uncle's death, and her sister ascending the throne of their country, Princess Alessa is at last going to enjoy a London season. Her country is now at peace,  so she is free to help the poor in London.

Rowan Oakley has been hired to kill. He has his own code of honour,  he will only kill those who deserve it.  He's being to believe his current target does not. That means there is someone else who does.

An exciting and sexy historical romance with great characters.  There is obviously a lot of danger and our hero is not at all the usual type.

This is the second book in the series.  You can read it on it's own, but if you intend to read the series they should be read in order.

Great fun.

She was not what he expected.
Little did Alessa know but that pesky guard of hers he really there to assassinate her. When I read the blurb on the book my one thought really the killer is going to be the hero. I cannot wait to see how the author pulls this one off. Wow, am I impressed a bad guy turned into a good guy right before my reading eyes. The author's way of writing these characters was so insightful and splendid she made them real and increased the reading pleasure by 10 fold. If I could give this one more than five-stars I would do it in a heartbeat. There were a few chapters that were an emotional roller coaster for me fearful, sad, and then happy the ending was grand. I loved this romance with great characters, romance and intrigue. Rowan was an orphan who grew up alone on the streets of London. He was hired by a crime leader to kill the Princess of Altharia who was coming to London for the season and to help charities for the poor. Hee was one of her two main guards, but once he saw how nice she was, he couldn't kill her and did everything he could to kill the other killers and protect her. They fell in love, but there were many complications. The ending was great. I had not read the first book, but plan to read it soon. I voluntarily reviewed an advance review copy.

I love this book so much!!!! It was amazing!!!
You do not need to read the first one to read this one. Even though they are about sisters their stories don’t overlap at all. This book is about Princess Alessa of Atharia and Rowan Oakley. Alessa is in England to have a season. Rowan is a guard that was hired by the palace to protect her…but also a hired killer paid by someone to kill her.
She is such a spunk and he is such a grouch. The banter between the two is great.
As the characters evolve you can’t help but love them both. Several twists and turns in the book made it a great read.
Another great book by Tamara Gill.

Love is What Counts . . .

Princess Alessa’s sister is now Queen which leaves Alessa free to have a Season in London. Rowan Oakley is one of her bodyguard’s and he has a reason to rejoice as well. But his reason is not so noble. He will be coming into wealth he has always wanted, then able to find a new start. He had a rough beginning in life, but now all of that can change when he completes his assignment to kill Alessa.

But Rowan finds out that she is not the horrible person he had expected her to be. She shows kindness and compassion. And as he gets to know the Princess, it is easy to see her loving heart. But can he keep her safe? Does she truly not care where he comes from? Will she gladly follow her heart and love him?

Princess Alessa feels she is free, her sister is firmly on the thrown, but she’s still surrounded by body guards. Rowan Oakley, he’s one of her body guards, he has one mission, and that is to assassinate Princess Alessa and everything he’s ever wanted will be his. Alessa knows there are people still trying to take over her country and the risk of assassins are always a possibility, why is she always trying the patience of her guards and sneaking away? What happens when Rowan finds himself attracted to the princess, her willful nature and her beauty so will he murder her or love her? I have voluntarily read and reviewed the excellent book filled with romance, intrigue with a few twist and turns in the story.

Tamara Gill is one of my favourite authors and I cannot wait for her books to be published. A Royal Proposition is the second book in her ROYAL HOUSE OF ATHARIA series and delivers another story that provides escapism and feel-good feelings at the end. I love that her characters are often flawed and have something to prove. Rowan is not a titled Lord but a man with a past attracted to a Princess. Alessa is a princess with compassion looking for love. Their love story has obstacles that kept me guessing until the end. Tamara has the right amount of raunch in her books that make a read worthwhile. Like all her books I finished this one wanting more.

Love with a improper man

Rowan has clawed his way up from the gutter completing murder, thievery and anything for survival! Talk about complete opposites Alessa a princess beloved, beautiful and rich! Alessa has a heart for orphans and women who have nowhere to go! Rowan is slowly acknowledging that he has been deceived and no amount of money is worth this stain on his soul to kill this beautiful woman!
How can fix this mess? There are several steamy scenes and harrowing moments hover between life and death for this unlikely pair! How does a orphan from the streets win a princess with everything? Through love of course! Love this tale of these unlikely lovers!
