Probably the best Rachel McLean book I have read to date and I have immediately pre-ordered the third in the series. A word of warning though, you need to have read the first book in the series before reading this, because there are some many linkages. This is a very fast moving police procedural with a great cast of characters, both ongoing and specific to this book. I am really looking forward to book 3.

Absolutely love this series. Believable characters with normal flaws. Already preordered Book 3 which I believe is due next month. Only minor thing...why the fairground on the cover?

Deadly Choices is book two in the Detective Zoe Finch series by Rachel McLean. Alison Osman promised her children a visit to Cadbury World and hoped that her partner would come to help. However, he had to work, and Alison Osman had to go alone to Cadbury World with her daughter and son. While Alison and her family are at Cadbury World, the worst nightmare for any parent is when their children go missing. The readers of Deadly Choices will continue following Detective Zoe Finch's investigation to discover what happens.
I have read other books by Rachel Mclean, but Deadly Choices is the first book in the Detective Zoe Finch series. At first, I was worried that I would not enjoy this series. However, I did engage with the characters and the story from the first page. I will read another book in this series. I love Rachel Mclean's portrayal of her characters and the way they interact with each other throughout this book. Deadly Choices is well-written and researched by Rachel Mclean. I like Rachel Mclean's description of Deadly Choices' settings, which complimented the book's plot.
The readers of Deadly Choices will understand the worst fears for parents when their children go missing while they are out. Also, the readers of Deadly Choices will learn about law enforcement investigations of missing children.

Deadly choices book 2 of the Detective Zoe Finch series by the brilliant Rachel McLean totally lift up to my expectations.
Zoe and her team are back to solve the mystery of two missing children.
The story begins when Alison Osman is having a family day out with her children Madison and Ollie, husband Ian is nowhere to be seen.
Madison and Ollie go missing leaving Alison frantic with worry.
The police discover a Facebook message telling Alison and Ian that someone has both of their children and that they have to choose which one they want back.
CCTV footage appears to show Alison walking off with her children, so what does she know about their disappearance and what does she have to hide meanwhile Ian who is a police officer has his own secrets and issues.
Who could have taken their children will they be found alive there are so many suspects including paedophiles who walked away free from the Canary case.
This is a fast paced very emotional rollercoaster and at times I found my eyes welling up as Jan Cramer brilliantly brought the characters and story to life on the audiobook. I myself found it very emotional towards the end of the book as the tension built to a gripping climax.
Zoe Finch is a brilliant lead character but also the team that work around her have a large part to play in this story line and I just totally love this series.
Rachel McLean you are a total genius and I hope this series does not end any time soon!!

Zoe Finch is acting SIO in a kidnapping when Alison Osman takes her two children to Cadbury World; she turns her back for five minutes to get them a snack and they disappear. Alison's husband Ian is a serving police officer, could the kidnapping be a grudge from an enemy?
This twisted and turned as suspicion fell on lots of different people, especially when Zoe discovers that the same building firm is doing the roof at the Osman house as were working on ACC Jackson's house, could Ian Osman be connected to the Canary investigations?
This was both a self-contained kidnapping story and progressing the overarching Canary investigation. Very enjoyable.
This twisted and turned as suspicion fell on lots of different people, especially when Zoe discovers that the same building firm is doing the roof at the Osman house as were working on ACC Jackson's house, could Ian Osman be connected to the Canary investigations?

I thought there were a lot of loose ends left untied on the main mystery of this book in particular. It made very little sense. I did enjoy the overarching mystery and like the characters so I will continue this series, hopefully the next books will be better.

"Deadly Choices" is the second book in the DI Zoe Finch series. It focuses on the case of two missing children, Maddy and Ollie Osman, who disappeared from Cadbury World in Birmingham. The story continues the investigation into the Canary paedophile network from the first book, with DI Finch looking into DS Ian Osman's connections to criminal Trevor Hamm and builder Stuart Reynolds.
The Crime:
Maddy and Ollie Osman go missing during a family visit to Cadbury World. Their mother, Alison, reports them missing after stepping away briefly to get food. However, CCTV footage shows Alison leaving with the children, which contradicts her story. This makes the investigation target the parents, Ian and Alison Osman, as possible suspects. DI Finch and her team follow different leads, which include a former teacher known for inappropriate behavior and the children's biological father, Benedict Tomkin, who was thought to be dead.
The novel also explores Zoe's relationships with her son Nicholas, her estranged mother Annette, and her potential romantic interest, DI Carl Whaley.

Two children are kidnapped and Zoe's team only has three days to find them before one of them gets hurt. The kidnapper tells the mother that she has to choose which child she wants to save; she can only have one. The more Zoe investigates, the weirder the case becomes. The father is a copper who is secretly under investigation by his own department. A video shows the mother leading the children away herself. All of the clues point to the parents kidnapping their own children but there seems to be no motive. The case also seems to be connected to a child sexual abuse ring. Members were arrested but won their court case so they are no longer in custody. They are also suspects. This is one of the most baffling cases Zoe's team has ever encountered but they stay the course, working tirelessly.

I enjoyed reading this book to a certain degree but It didn’t feel as realistic as the first book in the series, the plot twist felt like it had some big gaps and the detectives missed crucial information. Some things were also left untied but maybe that will follow on in book three. I enjoyed the first book more than this one. I will read the next one in a hope it will help some unfinished storylines develop.

This could have been a great story - except half of it related to a previous case. Now I’ve read the previous book a few weeks ago but have no recollection of most of the references in this book……. A stand alone it isn’t and until I can find the earlier book (possibly in one of the other series) I will read no more. So frustrated.

In the second story in the series, Zoe Finch is now a detective inspector, taking charge of her first case as a Senior Investigating Officer. She’s soon embroiled in the kidnapping of Alison Osman’s two children at Cadbury World. Her husband is a police officer, who’s under internal investigation, and behaving suspiciously. It also looks like she’s lying about what happened.
It becomes a race against time when Alison receives a note, asking her to choose between her daughter and young son.
The story becomes a chase across Birmingham, following various leads and various suspects as the investigation spreads. While Zoe Finch is in the thick of everything with her team, it appears uncoordinated at times and occasionally desperate as she tries to gain traction with the investigation.
In the end, it’s good solid policing by her team that delivers the breakthrough and solves the mystery.
It’s an interesting story with a couple of internal complications that look like they will rumble through into future books. The characters and relationships within the team are strong, creating an enjoyable read.

So much of the story I liked, nice character development on main characters. Overall interesting story - very fast paced. But I feel there are big parts of the story that were missed- Vic and Brian barely seem to be dating yet are talking about kids. In addition, Brian has told Vic his whole back story? How does the person who took the kids know their favorite foods, how do they have the skill set to send the 5 am email and have a place to keep them captive with Maddie's comforter and the same set up? Alison is in the video twice - no one looked at it in detail to see if it was the same person - seemed more of a glance. No one really questioned Ian and his whereabouts until the very end. So the bent cops get Reynolds and nice construction upgrades in their house. Reynolds still needs payment for his laborers - how does that work. So lots of holes for me.

A twisty police procedural novel that keeps you thinking
Having read the first Zoe Finch novel, I thought I’d try the next one. It’s an easy read in one sense - short chapters of self co trained scenes; the content, however, is less easy, focussing as it does on child abduction and the possible involvement of a paedophilia ring. (The later is part of an ongoing storyline from the first book in the series.)
This is solid storytelling for its genre: I can imagine it would work well as a TV series as the tension builds slowly, showing the frustration of laborious police investigation and how easy it is for the police to follow a trail that leads nowhere - or to a completely different destination. You also have the ongoing personal storylines of characters from the first novel.
If you like this genre, you won’t be disappointed.

I adored Rachel McLean’s Deadly Wishes and was looking forward to her next novel. I was Not Disappointed! I loved it. Again, I was quickly enveloped into the one more chapter syndrome. The characters introduced in the first of the series were developed and I’m becoming attached to them much as I did with Strike and Robin. I have been telling everyone about this book. Living near Birmingham it is such a breath of fresh air to actually visualise where the story took place. Walsall even got a mention (thank you Rachel!). Already reading Deadly Desires the third novel which is FABULOUS. Surely a TV series in the making? Five plus stars from me.

Allison Osman takes her children to Cadbury World in a planned excursion her husband Ian was supposed to join. Ian doesn't show. Allison leaves twelve-year-old Maddy to watch her little brother while she stands in line to get their food.
A matter of minutes and both children are gone.
Another good police procedural with interesting characterization and plenty of suspense. DI Zoe Finch and her team have to examine several unsavory possibilities in their attempt to determine who and why the children have been abducted.

I enjoyed book 1 so much that I had to read book 2 straight after it. Again a captivating plot that made me want to ignore the housework and sit and read all day, along with the underlying plot of bent coppers caught up in a nasty paedophile ring. Just who can Zoe trust in the force and is it just one officer or are there more caught up in this web of corruption?
This book is highly recommended but although they stand alone, if you want to follow the corruption storyline I would definitely suggest you start at the beginning with Deadly Wishes

This was amazing!
This was one good book! I could barely put it down, I ended up reading it all today! I had come to one conclusion and I was wrong. But I liked the authors take so much better. Child abduction is a series problem these days,and it doesn't always end well. With all over the twists thrown in here, I wasn't sure if this story would end well either. And that a!one was enough to to keep me reading just to find out what was going to happen. I would recommend that you read this book as the plot is fantastic, and you'll want to see how this story ends!!!

A Real Page Turner
Zoe Finch is now a permanent detective inspector running her own team. When they learn two children have gone missing while on a trip with their mother they know they must find the children no matter it costs. On looking closely at the parents neither are exactly what they seem and Zoe suspects they may be involved in the disappearance somehow. This book kept me gripped from beginning to end and I did not want to put it down. Looking forward to reading more in the series.

Just loved this book in the Zoe finch series
Loved to read how Zoe and Lesley from the Dorset series started working together
The diffent angles this case took first thinking the Dennis hamm people had to he children the were so many red herrings had to keep reading to find out who had been he children so so unexpected it was somebody who thought was doing the right thing but very misguided once more Zoe and her team kept digging till got to the truth and got th children back home safely but very trumertize
I am now back read the Dorset series in which no doubt Zoe will pop up

A must read
Wow, yet another excellent book from Rachel McLean. I buy these books and can't wait to read them but then I'm disappointed as I finish them in a few hours!! Brilliant stories, characters and settings, which are all so believable and gripping from the first page to the last! I've just bought the third book in the series, so will no doubt get nothing done again tomorrow!

Good read
I enjoyed the first book more, this one I found a bit frustrating as I felt Zoe let the investigation down as she was too caught up in the Canary case and hell bent linking it to this. Poor Rhodri who she is forever putting down actually solved it. Hopefully she ups her game in the next one. By the way, didn't anyone think that a kitten needs feeding and water plus a litter tray, kept thinking is anyone going to actually give the poor thing some food.

ANOTHER SUPER BOOK
I couldn't put it down until I had finished. This is the second book in this series and it follows on brilliantly. I love the characters and it has the right amount of police procedural stuff. I guessed the culprit but I still enjoyed the twisted ending. I starting the third book straight away, which is a pre-quel and I'm worried that I might not enjoy it as much as the first two. Highly recommended.

In living the Rachel McLean books. I'm new to her books but I'll definitely keep going with them. Great stories and believable characters even the crook cops throughout the force. But she is onto them and I'm sure by the end she will bring them down as well as solving her cases along with her team, although that is about to change and she not happy about losing her best mate and her partner in crime as her old boss returns...

A story of child abduction, sinister goings on and potential corrupt policemen. It is all thoroughly mixed together and served hot by Rachel McLean in the second Detective Zoe Finch novel.
More character development and Book 1 links forged, with an underbelly of institutionalised corruption.
Some strong language, but doesn't detract from the story or ones enjoyment of it.
Solid 4-star read.

Another stonking good read
You realise what a good writer and story teller Rachel McLean is if you read one of her books closely after one from a clutch of top listed British crime authors. Loved this second instalment. We got to meet Nicholas’s dad in a work setting and more about the corruption.
Its a difficult case, two kids, step children of a serving officer go missing on a trip to Cadbury World.
It could be linked to Operation Canary (a paedophile ring) of which two defendants have just been found not guilty or could it be closer to home?
Zoe’s team gas to get to the bottom of it before the parents have to make a choice which child to save.

What an excellent read this is. Following on from events in the first book, Zoe is still determined to bring certain people to justice. That is on hold for the time being when two children are abducted. Things take a twist when a demand is made for the parents to choose one of the children.
I was hooked from the first page and there's so many twists here that I did not want to stop reading. I love Zoe and the team and I can't wait to see where certain threads lead in the next book.
