Deep in the suburbs, mystics walk among us careful to hide their unique psychic powers. They call themselves Sensers, and this is the story of one of them....
THE SENSERS SECRET SOCIETY, Short #1
Xavi has never acted against his powerful Sense before until it brands Lily guilty of a brutal murder in his courtroom in Radnor, PA, and he can’t or won’t convict her.
The Radnor Sensers Secret Society is full of members with supernatural ability, and Xavi’s is to see sudden verdicts appear on people’s foreheads—a useful skill when you’re a judge.
Until now, he’s never let matters of the heart impede his magical or legal duty to defend the law, but he also considers Lily the one, which is strange considering they’ve never even talked when passing in the coffee shop every morning.
Is he losing his way? Should he follow the law or the truth? Do all guilty people belong in prison? Is it just the shock of seeing Lily in court that set his Sense off?
Convinced he should conduct his own investigation into what really happened, he soon discovers the truth may be far more elaborate than he had imagined and it may also have set his human and magical duties on a collision course.
This short story has a shallow plot, but it prepares us for what’s coming in the forthcoming series. A secret society comprises people with extrasensory perception, such as mind-readers, psychics, and far-sighted. Their role is to keep the world safe from criminals. Not as easy as it might sound because apart from saving us from evil, they must remain secret. Well written in a cosy style.
I've enjoyed this short story so much. The protagonist (The Judge) is certainly facing a unique challenge! I couldn’t put it down, a real page-turner. Just discovered this author and I hope to read more from her!
Wow! An incredible story. Although short, so much happens in it, I couldn’t put it down. It was like watching a movie. The idea is original, the characters compelling, and the twist masterful. A must-read!
I really enjoyed reading this short story. As Im not very used to this genre, I was quite skeptical at first, but the story is amazing and I loved reading it. Really excited to know what's next!
Such a grabbing secret world! I must say The Judge Senser impressed me. I am not a fantasy reader, but this author succeeded in holding my attention and immersed me in a mysterious world of secrets, society, and dilemmas. I am hooked! While I didn't see the end coming, I must say this short story left me wondering and asking myself what I would have done if I were in Judge Xavi's shoes... I'm torn. Part of me says heck yeah, he was right, and part says how could he? What about you?
I loved the quickness of the story but also how much tension was in each twist and turn. The characters were convincing and also were surprisingly quite relatable. The story intrigued and captivated me in suspense to the very end! I am proud to say I thoroughly enjoyed The Judge Senser to the very last page!
I really enjoyed the story full of suspense and surprise. The characters were believable and drew me in it was hard to stop reading. Every step of the way I was full of questions and wondering what would happen next.
I found the concept very unique and scary to think people could actually read whether or not you were guilty of a crime. Strong characters and great story.
A judge who has the ability to see it the person before him is guilty or not starts to question his ability when the woman he’s infatuated with ends up in his court room. A very well written book with suspense and mystery. I enjoyed this book immensely and will be reading the next book in the series. My only complaint was that it ended a little abruptly with no clear ending. I assume more will be revealed in the second book.
This is such an interesting story. While I know that it is a short story and part of a series (the second book I haven't read yet - but based on the synopsis of the second book, sounds like it continues where this book left off) I wished that the stories were written as ONE book because both (based on a quick search) are quite short and seem to be connected. And yes I understand that being 'short' is the goal of short story, but since it is introducing such an interesting idea especially being a work of fantasy, I believe this deserves more of a lengthier world building and stronger character development.
I love the concept of these "sensers". I really do believe it has a potential to be a full length novel hence why I felt it was shy of one star and rated this book as 4 out of 5 stars. I just wish it had more world building and a stronger character development because I didn't feel connected to the characters nor did I see any depth to them (as an example: the author tells us that the main character liked or care about the girl and is pained by his dilemma of protecting her versus doing the right thing - but as a reader, I wouldn't give a damn or empathize with him because there is a disconnect. The story is too short to empathize with him. I don't even know him that well except know he is a judge senser, part of a society and torn between his love for a girl and his job. If there was an additional scene SHOWING him thinking back to when he first met her or what made him fall for her (which the author did try at times but not enough to justify his dilemma) I might have been more sympathetic with the character. It's just telling me how much he really like her but I don't really feel it.
This book could also work as a full novel if the author combined the two novels she has so far, but who am I to judge, maybe the author plans on making a series of losely connected short stories and intends to release more in the future so that it will all make sense. I am curious to know why the author chose to go separate short stories route though!
I also wish the author delved into this secret society. Maybe even a brief description of their origins and why they hide their abilities in front of normal people because IT IS under the FANTASY genre and we can't have this interesting society and be left in the dark as to why it was created and who are chosen to be in this exclusive society!
I am not familiar with fantasy, but this short story gave me a great impression. I really love the concept of the Sensers Secret Society. It's intriguing. It made me want to be part of a secret society myself. I've read short stories before, most of them are either a fresh breath of humor, or a short-lived horror, nothing marking. But this one is unforgettable. It left me hungry for more. Thankfully, "The Executioner" exists. " Should he follow the law or the truth? Do all guilty people belong in prison?" these questions can spark a really interesting discussion, because, does the law always align with the truth? If not, then what should we follow?
I didn't realize that I finished the book until I did; the suspense and the mystery didn't let me put the book down. I made theories then rejected them. And I'm proud to say that I ALMOST got it right. The conversation between Xavi and Dominic was very entertaining. Their friendship is precious. In fact, Dominic is a very endearing character that I quickly grew fond of.
after finishing this first story, I didn't think twice about reading the second book of the SSS series.
The Judge Senser is a paranormal short story written by the author Soleah Kenna Sadge. It is the first book in "The Sensers Secret Society" Series. The story is set in Radnor, PA, USA. The story starts with Judge Xavi having a bad Monday morning as Lily didn't show up at the cafe to buy her coffee.
Xavi always wakes up earlier than expected on weekdays to catch a glimpse of her while she orders her coffee. Lily is accused of robbery and killing someone but judge Xavi thought that it must be some understanding and she should be innocent. Since Xavi couldn't wait for the police to bring the evidences, he himself went at the crime scene to do the investigation.
Language of the book is easy and comfortable. Narration style of the author is remarkable and seems mature. Plot is intriguing. Characterization was stunning throughout the book. Pace of the story was fine. Since it's a short story, it is of twenty eight pages only.
I am looking forward to read the next story "The Executioner" from the author.
If you like suspense, psychic powers, and enigmatic societies, this short story is for you!
I loved it! A quick read, I didn't stop until I finished it. Although it says it's part of a series, this could read as a standalone. I really enjoyed the MC and his dilemma! Made me wonder what I would do if I were in a similar situation...
The secret organization described is also intriguing, and I would like to know more about its members, their powers, their training, etc. I'll definitely read the other stories in the series, and I highly recommend this one!
The Judge Senser is an exciting short story that introduced us to a world where certain people have special abilities and showed us how a few of them use them to help humanity.
I was enthralled by the plot. It was so unique and well done. My only small complaint was the length. Even for a short story it seemed very short but I’m excited to see there are sequels.
Intriguing world, mages and witches who have special superpowers, and a delicious plot...a judge who knows the woman he loves is guilty of murder. Each book promises a new chapter in this unfolding mystery. I love it and can't wait for more!
What an interesting blend Of paranormal and murder mystery. It feels like a small taste of a larger, interesting world. A real page turner. I wanted to finish and know what happened to Lily.
With the help of Xavi, the Judge, this quick read offers an introduction to the Sensers Secret Society, and the world they inhabit. The short story has a beginning, a middle, and an end... But in some ways it almost feels like a tease for this fascinating Universe I want to immerse myself in for a longer period.
The immediate case/mystery is solved, but a much greater dilemma is revealed.
Greatly enjoyed this short story. I really like stories where the main characters have some psychic gifts so it looks like this series will be right up my alley!
The five short stories in the book The Sensors Secret Society are linked together by characters which have extra sensory gifts in common. The stories share intrigue and suspense and were an interesting read.
