Fun, fab, biscuits, ponies, and more. I just loved it!
I am so so hyped when I saw a brand-new Kevin pop up on my Twitter feed, and then I got even more hyped later when I saw one shop (which ships to worldwide) had signed bookplates! I barely have signed books or signed bookplates so I immediately pre-ordered the book. Look at the bottom of my review for the bookplate! It is so cute!
In this one there is a biscuit thief in town.. and Kevin is the main suspect! Oh no. We, the readers and Kevin’s human family, know that he is innocent.. but his love for biscuits is known by everyone and that accompanied with traces of a flying pony and Kevin has to prove his innocence… Poor Kevin! That is the start of a runaway story with his best friend Max! I just had so much fun reading this book and seeing how they would show the world that Kevin is innocent.
I quickly knew who the criminal was and why he was doing it. It was so obvious that I had a big laugh that no one else thought it was strange. 😛 But that is the charm of it all.
The police was also a silly bunch and I had quite a few laughs about them.
Then there are our guinea pigs from the earlier books, you know the duo of cuties who got a taste of adventure? Well they decide to take a lesson from the biscuit bandit and do a robbery of their own. This just was such a fun plotline and I love those critters.
I just love the relationship between Max and his sister and I love how they did a lot together in this story. It was just great how they worked together and how they thought up all sorts of amazing plans.
The ending was just a big mix of action, excitement, biscuits, certain creatures from other books, and more. Oh my goodness.
Also poor Zach, the boy who got flying-pony-pooped on.
It was such a fun book and I flew right through it, I cannot wait for more adventures in this world. I need more Kevin!

This is great fun. Full of poo, biscuits, thievery and jokes! When Kevin the root poly pony is accused of being a criminal can he and Max solve the crime and find the REAL criminal? Do you wanna meet Beyoncé the guinea pic criminal?! Look no further!

Soms heb je van die boekenpersonages die je hart stelen, gewoon omdat ze zo vertederend zijn en waarbij je verlangend uitkijkt naar hun allernieuwste avonturen. Ik heb er ondertussen wel enkele op mijn lijstje staan, maar daarvan luistert er maar eentje naar de naam Kevin. Ik sprong dan ook een gat in de lucht toen onze favoriete mollige vliegende pony ondertussen aan zijn derde avontuur toe was.
Philip Reeve is voor volwassen geen onbekende meer, omwille van het succes van zijn reeks rond de Mortal Engines die terecht de status “klassieker” mag toegedicht worden. Voor zijn kinderboeken is hij dan weer wat minder bekend, zeker in ons taalgebied. Niettegenstaande titels als Olivier en de dwaaleilanden of Shen en de 66 sledehondjes al sinds ‘15 in het kinderboekenaanbod beschikbaar zijn, leken die titels wat onder de radar te blijven. Onterecht zo blijkt, want zijn diverse samenwerkingen met illustratrice Sarah McIntyre zijn echt wel toppers voor kinderen.
In het derde deel van de reeks rond Kevin doet Reeve waar hij goed in is, hij brengt een verhaal dat zelfstandig kan gelezen worden door beginnende lezers, maar ook uitstekend als voorleesverhaal kan functioneren, en bouwt met een laagdrempelige woordenschat een spannend plot boordevol humor.
Terwijl het eerste deel eerder een voorstelling was van de wereld waarin de gebeurtenissen zich afspelen en een kennismaking met de verschillende personages, was het tweede deel dan weer een echt avontuur dat een resem aan nieuwe personages introduceerde. “Kevin en de koekjesdief” neemt het beste van de twee vorige delen en maakt daarmee een nieuw avontuur. Net als in deel twee, krijg je een korte voorstelling van het hoofdpersonage, waarna het eigenlijke boek van start gaat. Ook dit derde deel kan weliswaar op zich gelezen worden, al zullen linken naar de eerste twee delen hun doel bij die lezers missen.
Dit keer koos de auteur ervoor om op zich geen nieuwe personages te introduceren en bepaalde verhaalelementen uit deel 1 en 2 in de gebeurtenissen te verwerken. Het eindresultaat is een soort whodunnit op kindermaat die zijn spanning vooral opbouwt met onschuldige elementen die uit hun realistische context worden getild. En voor de fans van deze reeks kunnen we alvast verklappen dat ook Neville en Beyoncé hun hilarische terugkeer niet hebben gemist.
Met een eenvoudige cover die het stramien van de vorige netjes volgt (basiskleur rood dit keer, een “levensgrote” kevin op de voorkant en de glimmende zilver opdruk) valt dit boek in elke etalage op. De omvang klopt netjes af op zo’n 160 pagina’s met groot lettertype en bevat op elke dubbele bladspiegel minstens één illustratie.
Ook dit keer kunnen we stellen dat iedereen die kennismaakt met Kevin, meteen zal vallen voor zijn charmes. En mocht je me vragen of ik dit boek aan iedereen zou willen aanraden, dan antwoord ik ‘volmondig’ : Koekjes! (pun intended)

Przy okazji czytania mojemu synowi trafiliśmy na serię o latającym kucyku - Kaziku. To co od pierwszych stron jest siłą tej książki to humor. Okazuje się, że w mieście Wkrętki pojawił się złodziej ciasteczek i każdy sklep jest zagrożony. Nie byłby to problem gdyby nie fakt, że Kazik uwielbia herbatniki, a na miejscu przestępstwa wszystkie ślady wskazują, że to kucyk jest sprawcą.
Pełna humoru i fajnych żartów historia grubego pegaza sprawdziła się świetnie jako lektura przed snem dla mojego czteroletniego syna.

Third book in this very funny, lighthearted middle grade series about a role poly flying pony with a liking for biscuits. Plenty of wind and bodily function jokes will make this attractive for lots of children - had this adult in stitches too!

Met veel plezier voorgelezen aan Saar. Het is grappig en spannend en het zit goed in elkaar, met weinig (of: precies de goeie) tralala rond. Zo'n boek dat met liefde en respect voor kinderen gemaakt is.

Great cackles of laughter from the listening 6 year old. Looks of vague disbelief and bewilderment from adults to whom we told the plot. A good romp.
