Charade #2

The Act

Rate this book
It was always going to end in heartbreak.

You can't pretend-marry the man you secretly love and escape unscathed.

Ford has never hesitated to ask for my help before, but this is the farthest he's asked me to go. Not that I ever say no to him.

Even when I know I should.

Sleeping with my husband is the best worst idea possible.

It's everything I dreamed it would be.

But everything to me is nothing to him.

And he's not the only one I've made promises to.

The Act grips me on my seat. Miss Gray done a good job bringing the tension between Ford and Emzee. The story of their fake marriage and what reveal behind their charade. Their true feeling and the chemistry.

There is no denying that Miss Gray is master with building the final twist/ drama. Love it! I usually do not like too intense climax on the plot.

Overall a wonderful read. Wanting to read more.

The Act is the second book in the Charade series. I was not too thrilled with Ford when I ended the first book. He is the typical rich boy that expects everything handed to him including Emzee. His selfishness bothered me. Emzee what can I say about her? I enjoyed her, but she let Ford walk all over her. I knew she loved Ford but there is only so much that love can do.

With The Act, we start right where we ended in the first book. Ford and Emzee are getting married, things are about to get very serious very fast. Ford is still entitled and Emzee is still a pushover. But over the book, you see a slow-growing up of Ford. Emzee starts to have a backbone when it comes to him and just might realize that Ford is not everything that he is supposed to be in a husband or even a friend.

The Act is a story that I couldn't put down. It is like watching a serious soap opera that you just have to keep watching so that you can see who is going to get hurt the most. Is Ford ever going to grow up? And is Emzee ever going to grow a spine and demand the love she deserves?

I absolutely love this family and can't wait for the next and final book!

hummm in the 2nd story of Ford and Emzee's story was a little slow. I got sick of Ford letting his mother and his Ex Claudia disrespecting his wife Emzee. But I loved the way there friendships grows into love. The ending is especially good When Ford puts his Ex Claudia and his Mother in there proper places. Ford and Emzee finally admit they have always loved each other. Can't wait to read bk3 The Truth!!

Emzee and Ford are settling into "married" life, buyoued by their hot as Hades chemistry. But, of course, things are not exactly smooth sailing because there are things hanging over them: his obnoxious, relentless ex, his horrible parents, and the little thing Emzee's been keeping from Ford. If those things didn't exist, they'd be mostly good. Oh but for that other little thing - their built in expiration date. Yep. No matter how hot their chemistry is, no matter how long they've been friends, they simply cannot forget that theirs is a marriage of convenience. Emzee especially needs to keep this in mind so her heart doesn't get too involved.

Ford has really started to realize just how much Emzee means to him and how much he's taken her for granted for their entire friendship. Now that his feelings have morphed to more than friendship, he's realized he wants to keep her in his life, keep her as more than just his fake wife. Does she feel the same? He knows they have an expiration date, but perhaps he can convince her to stay with him, to make their marriage real. But will those feelings pass the test when Emzee's secret is revealed? Or are he and Emzee doomed to a short marriage that ends up severing their friendship?

Dang! That cliffhanger drove me batty. As cliffhangers go, it's not too bad, but it definitely made me anxious for this couple. I want The Truth on my Kindle now so I can find out if Emzee and Ford's marriage becomes a real one or not. So I can find out just how they deal with his parents, with his ex, and with the realization of their feelings for each other. May cannot come soon enough for me!

The Act is book 2 in the Charade trilogy by Stella Gray. This is continuing Emzee and Ford's story. Book 2 picks up where book 1 left off at. The sizzle, heat and chemistry between Ford and Emzee is intense and you can't miss it. Without giving much away, Ford and Emzee are now married and trying to figure out what all that details between them yet there are outside sources trying to come between them and cause trouble, especially Ford's ex Claudia.
This book is perfect to give the readers the development of the characters in the story and build up what's coming next and also give us some things that happened in the past. I appreciated the opportunity to get to see Ford and Emzee together. Emzee came into her own!!! The cliffhanger gives way for a fabulous conclusion story.

This was the second installment of Ford and Emzee's story. I struggled with certain parts in the first story, so it was nice to see that the story did grow, particularly Ford, and that I was able to find myself enjoying it even more than I was expecting.

I felt that this story did fit the title of the book well. Both Ford and Emzee grew as characters and in their relationship. Emzee thought she was hiding, in regard to her true feelings for Ford, behind the Lie of their relationship but it was apparent how this story would unfold. I wanted that to be a bit different and have some tension in the story.

I was surprised by the ending of the book but it did pave the way for a great conclusion coming up. Again, a great title for the way that this series is turning out.

This picks up where book one left off and now I can’t wait for the conclusion. I started to see a different side of Ford in this book which I liked much better and Emzee is finally starting to come into her own, these two have chemistry in spades even if they try to deny it cause they know what’s going to happen to when they get to d day.

The 2nd book to this trilogy is as good as the 1st but with more steam. The chemistry between Emzee and Ford is off the charts. It was nice to see Ford develop as a person and see what was in front of him all along even though it took him long enough. There were several 'You go girl' moments with Emzee I loved. The ending made me want to smack a certain someone...or someones and I can't wait for the conclusion to this trilogy.

The story just keep getting better, as the second book in the Charade Trilogy, The Act truly focused on the characters’s dynamic as they go through ups and downs in their marriage. It was emotional, sizzling and the shocking twist at the end will leave you wanting for more.

Ford Malone has always been there for Emzee Zoric, ever since she was bullied at school. It was in that moment that she started to see him as her savior and the two became inseparable ever since. So when he asked her to be his wife for a year in order to get his mom off his back for not being with someone of her choosing, Emzee agreed to help. It’s now their wedding day and things feel extremely awkward between them. What should have been the best day of her life, it doesn’t feel that way for Emzee. She is constantly reminded of how their relationship has a time frame and she doesn’t know if Ford has any feelings for her. Emzee will always have his back, but she can’t help but wonder how Ford is going to react when he finds out about the deal she made with his parents. As the two start their new life together, they are seeing each other in a new light. They are now married and they have to figure out how to comprise with each other. Yet, the more time they spend together, the more she realizes just how hard is going to be to let Ford go after their year is over.

Ever since Ford asked Emzee if she loved him, it was hard to find out that she didn’t. It was hard for him to understand at the beginning, because they’ve always had that connection to fall back on. Now they are married and their dynamic feels different and he is set on doing anything possible to make her see that he wants to give their marriage a real chance. But when his ex comes into the picture, their relationship is put on the line and he’ll have to do everything in his power to convince Emzee that he truly loves her before it’s too late.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading The Act, it felt a lot emotional and it kept me at the edge of my seat until the very end. The book mainly focuses on their marriage, there isn’t a lot on the mafia and how it’s going to affect her family. I’m definitely intrigued to see how the third book handles all of that, especially after the shocking ending to the book. It’s clear from the start that the characters have chemistry and now that they are married, they are able to explore that further without worrying about their friendship. All in all, it was truly an enjoyable read and I cannot wait to read the last book in the trilogy. Would highly recommend checking out the books, the just keep getting better!

This is the second book of the Charade trilogy, you need to read book 1 first. The story continues where it left off with Ford and Emzee's story, told from both POVs. There is chemistry, there is jealousy, and emotions being in turmoil. Admitting everything can cost you, but nothing is easy, family comes out to play and destroy. Definitely looking forward to the last book and see what happens after that cliffy we are now used to from the author. The suspense is killing me and I have become addicted to Stella Gray's books.

The Act is the second book in the Charade trilogy, so you HAVE TO START WITH The Lie (Book 1) FIRST! Ford and Emzee are married now, and have decided to do that whole friends with benefits situation so what could possibly go wrong?! I have to say that Emzee is coming into her own in a way that I was about to stand up to cheer loudly, and even Ford is really growing on me. These two have the sparks flying so heat is out of control, and maybe just maybe there are feelings being caught. Of course there are people out there who aren't happy for them & will do whatever it takes to make sure that they never end up together forever. It all leads to another mother of a cliffhanger so now I'm sitting here trying to figure out how the hell I'm going to be able to wait without losing my mind! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

This story was never meant to be easy, and as we enter into this second installment, we see that easy is not something that’s even in the back of our minds. When we left the first book, we saw the ultimatum/deal that Ford’s parents put in front of Emzee and she had no choice but to take it. While her own personal feelings, stemming back years and years were leading her down one path, she had no choice but to accept the offer of Ford’s family bailing her own family out, at the compromise of walking away from Ford. Just when she thought there was something real between them.

We’ll remember that there was an unbalanced relationship between these two – Emzee was in love with Ford yet he wasn’t there really. He was always using Em as a fall back and as a safety net of sorts. It’s only when this charade takes hold that he sees her as something more. He came to the realization that he loved her, and just at that point, Emzee had to break his heart.

So the journey that we go on in book two is watching the wedding take place – knowing that emotions became even more complicated. We see them go on a honeymoon in this awkward phase of their relationship where they don’t know how to act with each other anymore. We see them come back to the real world, and watch how Ford won’t allow any concessions to Em in his home and his life. While they have a routine, it’s still clear to Em that she’ll never fit in. His parents make it clear that they wish Ford was still with his ex and his Ex still feels as though she’s the woman for him.

There’s a lot of mis-trust in this story. We watch the insecurities that Em has in herself and her relationship come to fruition when Ford continues to flirt and entertain the advances of Claudia. Refusing to remove things that she put in his apartment in exchange for Em being ale to make her own personal touches. We watch as Ford gets jealous when Em entertains a job prospect by a man who clearly finds her attractive and uses that against her. So you can only imagine that part of this is to amp up the hate sex, but part of it is a power dynamic that no one is willing to allow to shift.

So much continues to be an obstacle for our characters. Em’s family still has to deal with the Russian Mafia and her siblings are all trying to plan for what’s next knowing that they’ll lose the business. They all have game plans and worry that Em won’t have them. That she’l have to rely on Ford but they dont’ realize that the relationship with Ford has an expiration date, so she’s really left playing the part of secure when she’s anything but.

The roller coaster continues – and we watch how there’s an understanding that Ford and Em come to in their relationship. Despite all the forces against them, they admit that they share the same feelings for one another and that they will make things work. It’s no surprise that just as things start to fall into place, something comes up that makes them veer off path. That something is information that Claudia shares that causes Emzee’s world to implode. We’re left at a point where there’s really no coming back from the information and whatever was possible for them is now irrevocably lost. This also means that perhaps the deal that Ford’s parents forced Em into is the best solution for everyone since there’s nothing good that can come to them in the future. I don’t know about anyone else, but these twists and turns lead to such intense dynamic shifts, exciting highs and lows, and great passion.

He is doing everything wrong, I got the felling that he was going to try to make Emzee fall in love with him.

But he made so many mistakes it left a bitter taste in my mouth. The dinners with his parents where he didn’t defend her and the meting with his ex girlfriend. It was horrible reading how he was acting or more not acting.

There were this small moment where you could really see that he loved her which only make his bad behaviour more disgusting to read about .
A big Reality check was in order, and thank god it finally happened.

Overall I really liked this book, the story wasn’t predictable and I loved how it kept surprising me.

The ending twist I had already figured out but it was sad reading about her finding out. Especially with the added addition that I did not see coming.

The Act is Book #2 in The Charade Trilogy. Books must be read in order as they end in cliffhangers. The Act picks up where The Lie ended- Emzee and Ford’s wedding day. This book is told in duel perspectives and starts out with the Prologue in Ford’s.

The Wedding Day and beginning of the honeymoon have a black cloud floating over them for Emzee. Ford picks up on it and attempts successfully to bring back their easy going relationship.

Once they return to Chicago and settle into married life- there are bumps- removal of Ford’s ex, Claudia’s influence, from their living space, his parents constant and blatant disapproval of their marriage, and them keeping each other at arms length because of their agreement.

The one constant is their off the charts chemistry. Stella really brings the sexy in this book. Emzee starts to own her sexuality. And, Ford is all to willing to enjoy and encourage. The sexiness just oozes off the pages.

Despite having their expiration date looming, they begin to move forward as a couple. Ford begins to see that he need and wants to bring his A Game. However, two steps forward and three steps back, have them battling jealousy on both sides.

And, just when they get to the happy place of his parents ugliness coming out. Ford and Emzee admitting their true feelings. Claudia drops a truth bomb that has Emzee questioning her and Ford’s entire relationship.

A riveting story with lots of steam.

This is the continuing story of Ford & Emzee. Ford was such a frustrating character, and then he wasn’t. True feelings are revealed. Emzee has to go through a lot emotionally with the anxiety of it all. She’s always holding back a bit, because there is a timeline on her marriage because of his parents’ agreement with her, which Ford doesn’t know, but he overhears part of a conversation with Emzee and them, but he doesn’t know all of it by any means. There was one thing that Ford’s parents had told her to absolutely avoid, and it happened. Now what was she to do. There is also a revelation that Ford’s ex springs on her about when she went to high school with Ford. The whole thing is unbelievable to her. How will this all end? I can’t wait for the final book of this series for all to be revealed between Ford and Emzee. This is a wonderful series so far. The writing is great. It’s a book and series you can’t put down. Kudos to you, Stella Gray.

I live for how Stella Grey writes her stories. I’m a big fan of cliffhangers and she never disappoints. All of her books are written as trilogies and released within a couple months of each other so you can read each book without waiting to long for the next part.

Book 2 picks up right where book 1 left off at. I can’t go into too many details because of spoilers. Emzee and Ford have gotten married. We get to see them navigate through married life while both are still thinking that this will be a one year agreement. Ford’s parents are not making things easy on the newlyweds and neither is Ford’s ex, Claudia.

This book was the perfect middle of this trilogy sandwich. The storyline had been established in book 1 and we get to see all the juicy parts in part 2. Emzee and Ford are smoking hot together. The scenes with them are hotter than the first and I loved it. Emzee has always seen Ford as her protector since he stood up for her against her bullies in high school. But we really get to see use her backbone and grow as a person. Same with Ford. He’s always been under his parent’s shadow.

I cannot wait for part 3 of this trilogy. It ends on an amazing cliffhanger. The Truth comes out just one month later on May 11th. I can’t wait to see what happens with Emzee and Ford.

*marriage of convenience* *friends to lovers* *cliffhanger*

In this second installment by Stella Gray, we get to see Emzee and Ford in their married life and despite this being a marriage of convenience, Ford is beginning to really see Emzee as so much more than a friend. But they have an agreement. One year. But as Fords wants to reconsider their arrangement, there are a number of lies and other interferences with their relationship. We are left with a cliffhanger that really leaves you wondering, “will these two be able to work through everything and stay together?”

Love It!

Emzee is such a cool girl, very, very likeable! I love her! One particular instance, Ford was immature. Couldn't believe he left Emzee to attend one of their ex-schoolmates' birthday party with his ex! Tried to make Emzee jealous! Literally, there is no comparison between them. Em is real while the ex is fake. The moment Ford realized how precious Emzee, is priceless. Will Emzee be strong for their love? Without interferences from his parents and ex, big yes. Cant wait for The Truth. Both with secrets to reveal. I've read Stella's books and Love them.

The Act is the second book in the Charade series by Stella Gray.

This book starts where the first book ended and follows the friendship/relationship of Ford Malone and Emzee Zoric. They just got married and it’s not always rainbow and sunshine. Especially since it's still only fake for one year. Like the first one this book was a page turner! I couldn’t put it down because I wanted to know what’s happening next! I really loved the development of Emzee and Fords relationship during this book. God, I just love them together!
I really can’t wait for the third and finally book of the trilogy! May can’t come soon enough!

Fake relationship? Marriage of convenience? The Act is the second book in the Charade Series. Emzee and Ford finally get married. She tries to protect her heart by hiding her true feelings for Ford, who from the beginning made it clear to her that her marriage has an expiration date. Their wedding was beautiful, the honeymoon steamy and unforgettable. They both know that once their agreement is finished, they will have to take different directions, which leads to eventually meeting other people and falling in love, so each one has in mind to make themselves irreplaceable for the other despite the fact that in the future they are no longer together. Their game starts well, without complications and they both enjoy every moment. Once the honeymoon is over, the fun diminishes and they return to the real world in which there are several obstacles: Ford's family, third parties who seek to separate them, Ford's own attitude and some facts from the past that are revealed. All this wouldn't be a problem if they stick to their initial plan. But feelings complicate their agreement.

I have to say I got a little desperate with Ford. Let's see, he is extremely handsome and charming, but sometimes he acts without thinking about the consequences. Emzee has been his best friend for years and she has always supported him, but it seems that sometimes he forgets it and does not value her, even though he already has feelings for her. As for Emzee, her character has a further evolution in this book. In The Lie her self-esteem was very low, in this book she continues to work on it but has greater confidence in herself. She feels capable of seducing her husband and does everything possible to win him over. Their marriage at first is purely physical, but the friendship and coexistence between them solidifies the relationship and they form a beautiful family with Munchkin (her puppy). While Ford makes some mistakes, redeems himself. It ends on cliffhanger and I'm dying to know what will happen in the last book.

Gah! Book 2 was even better than the last! I could not put it down! It picks up at the wedding of Emzee and Ford. We get to see a glimpse of how Ford became Emzee’s hero in high school, which was interesting to see from his perspective. Ford and Emzee now have to figure out how to navigate this fake marriage that’s becoming more real every day. This story is so captivating, steamy, and a bit angsty. I wish we could read more from Ford’s POV, especially, in parts where he deals with his parents. I still think he’s a bit self-absorbed and is still taking advantage of Emzee’s kind heart. Also I totally saw that cliffhanger coming and the bomb Claudia dropped was a bit shocking, but I am not sure if I believe her. I’m excited to read the next installment in this series and hopefully all secrets are revealed and Ford and Emzee find their HEA.

I LOVED this book! All the angst, the suspense, the emotions flew off the pages from the start and didn't let up until I read "The End". I had trouble trying to stop reading to get anything else done! I just could not put this book down for more than 10 minutes or so. I HAD TO KEEP READING! The Lie, Book 1, brought us Ford and Emzee and their "fake marriage" plan. Not a great plan from the start. Now we have the actual "fake marriage"...what a mess! For me, Ford was not too likable here, although he did have his moments. I kept hoping he'd "see the light" before it was too late. The vast majority of my emotions rolled out of me for the smart and loving Emzee. She's a tour-de-force here, swallowing her pain for the good of all around her. I may have lost a few tears for her. I so wanted to hug her and tell her it would be ok. But would it? I had no idea!!! I still have no idea!!! Where's Book 3??!! I need it NOW!!! This book was crazy-good! I want to read it all over again now, and I RARELY say that. Everyone, run and grab your copy and read it!!

The Act is book 2 in the Charade Trilogy and picks up where book 1 ends. It’s hot, steamy and the chemistry is off the charts still no matter how much both Ford and Emzee try to deny it. Ford is frustrating as a character, I’m not sure I even like him most of the time. I love Emzee and how strong she is. I hope their relationship can stand the drama and secrets and we can hold on after that cliffhanger.

This second book picks up right where The Lie left us, with the "fake" wedding between Ford Malone and Emzee Zoric. Both Ford and Emzee are entering into this union for different reasons, some which each is keeping from the other. Emzee has always been grateful to Ford for helping her out of a bullying situation in high school, and has stood relentlessly by his side whenever he needed a favor. Ford self acknowledges that he has sometimes taken advantage of Emzee's loyalty to him as he carries on with his lifestyle without worrying about what happens at the expiration of their arrangement. Watching Ford's behavior enlightens Emzee that she should keep her options open for the scripted divorce in a year. Both of them bristle at the other's behavior because neither of them wishes to express true feelings about one another. Once they seem to land on the same page, the cliffhanger threatens to re-write their potential HEA! Argh! Can't wait for the final book!

Prologue has us with Ford as a sophomore in high school mopping up and putting a stop to the torment that created Mara Zoric's life due to her father's fall from grace.

The first book in the Charge Series ended with Emzee being presented by her "fake" fiance's parents with a solution that would help to clean up her family's Bravta misfortunes. Divorce at 1-yr.

The Act immediately has us wondering what parts are real and what parts are a sham from feelings to "acts" as they have to pick and choose between family and their friendship, or mayhap lust and love. Both afraid they are going to end up with a broken heart at the end of the original 12 month "friends with benefits" agreement.

As more secrets unfold, more are unearthed. Leaving you on the cusp, on the edge, of it's cliffhanger.

Side note:

Honestly, I dislike Ford's mother in both books sooooo much and, therefore, Ford at times. How she would demean and demoralize Mara on a continued basis while Ford did nothing, not even stick up for Mara through most of it. Pretending everything was fine. Grrrrr!
