Basic doctrines are not difficult but easy to understand. They often come disguised as complicated or deep-sounding words, but the definitions are simple.
Pastor, author, and renowned Bible teacher Bob Yandian explains the deep truths of Scripture in ways anyone can understand. Using straightforward vocabulary and down-to-earth examples, Pastor Bob makes complex theological concepts clear and practical.
Theology Simplified demystifies eight crucial doctrines of the Christian These eight precepts, essential for all believers to understand, come to light as you study the pages. Theology Simplified will give you a deeper understanding of the finished work of Jesus Christ, allowing you to walk in maturity and stability in your Christian life.
I learned a lot from this book. I now have a better understanding of theological words like justification, election and glorification. There are eight words defined in this book. Each word has a chapter devoted to it. The author had a lot to say about each issue and led us through a lot of Bible passages to verify and explain what he was talking about.
Overall it was a short, easy book to read and understand. There were some passages I had to read two or three times because my comprehension is not always at its best. I do feel this book helped me and I will keep it to refer back to if the words come up in my studies in case I need to refresh my understanding of the definitions.
This book explains the results of Jesus’s death and resurrection. If you are familiar with what this teaches, you can better answer questions like: “What is your interpretation of the gospel?” “Why do you believe?” “What is Christianity?” “Are we predestined?”
I really enjoyed reading this book. As a matter of fact, I plan on reading it again to solidify some of the things Pastor Bob Yandian brings out. One in particular. His views on predestination and the elect. I understand and accept that God is sovereign and has complete and total power to do whatever He desires to do or play out in the history of mankind. But one thing I have trouble with is what seems to be the predominate theology on who will be the people who go to heaven. What that seems to be is, that God has chosen who will and who won't go to heaven. In other words, God may chose one person in our family to go to heaven to spend eternity with Him while the others may not because God didn't chose them. But Yandian has a different point of view, which I have just learned was also Billie Graham's belief that we all possess the ability to accept Christ and His attoning work on the cross or we can reject Him. The Bible tells us that God is a loving patient God and that He desires that none should perish but come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9). To me that says that the choice is ours to make. God didn't preordain that to happen taking the choice away from each one of us. If He preordained our salvation it wouldn't be by our own free will and in my heart of hearts that is not a description of an all loving God. However, according to Yandian, since God is all knowing, He knows who will accept the grace He has offered us to be reconciled with Him through Christ's sacrifice on the cross and who won't. There is no other way to God.
Book Title: Theology Simplified: The eight Foundational Truths of your Glorious Redemption Book Author: Bob Yandian Genre: Christian Nonfiction Rating: 5.0/5.0 Recommendation: For every person who has questions about what being a Christian means for you.
Summary: After reading the foreword, I wanted to know more. Do you also have questions? My biggest was: I am now a Christian, but what exactly does that mean? Are you newly saved and want to learn what that really means? Bob Yandian takes you from Genesis to Revelation. I know that sounds daunting, but it was definitely not so. In this short and easy to read book Bob explains in the simplest terms what happens when you are redeemed. The Author is very concise with his writing. There is no sugarcoating and every aspect of the book is Scripture based. This is very important for my journey with Christ. The one thing I knew was this, if it is not supported by scripture it is probably not true. As the first of 23 books by Bob Yandian I found it an easy to read book. It challenged some of the preconceived notions I had about what it means to be a Christian. I look forward to reading more books by Bob Yandian.
For this reason, I am rating the book 5.0/5.0. I am also recommending it to every person who has questions about what being a Christian means for you.
I really enjoyed this book by Bob Yandian! Never having read anything by Bob before it came up as a deal so I thought I'd give it a try and definitely didn't regret it. Through each chapter, Bob works through the foundational stages of Christian redemption through Jesus Christ. Each chapter discusses a different fundamental stage or doctrine of our faith. It's extremely thorough in explanations and is packed with Bible verses to reinforce the teaching. Quite a dry book, very to the point, but with each chapter, he really goes over and over each point, so if you don't understand it immediately, you certainly do by the end of each chapter! It is easy to tell that Bob has many years of solid Christian teaching under his belt and most definitely has a gift for it. If you want to read a book about the fundamental doctrines of Christianity with in-depth Bible-based teaching without flowery waffle, then this is for you! It won't be the only book of his that I read!
Purchased this book primarily for the chapters on Election and Predestination (which are amazingly insightful), but found every single chapter to be excellent. All the biblical concepts covered now make so much more sense.
I saw a definite lie about Joseph Smith and therefore don't trust the authors reasoning. If you're going to put something in a book of this nature you should research better.
The author takes complicated ideas and explains so they are easy to understand. I recommend this book to anyone trying to understand concepts in the Bible.
Pastor Bob has taught these principles for decades, with consistency and simplicity. He is a great student of the word and teaches from his storehouse of learning.
There’s a lot to be said about the study of the Bible, but sometimes it’s hard to see through the scholarly language to get to the heart of the gospel. But the gospel is so simple even a child can understand it. In this book, the author takes years of teaching experience and compiles it to do something quite tricky: he simplifies the subject. Focusing individually on a handful of key terms that seem to be thrown around with other big words but which at their heart are so very simple, he explains each term in such a wonderfully simple way that anybody can understand. If you have questions about justification, sanctification, or other basic tenets of faith, you can pick this book up and learn something, no matter who you are or what you do. I cannot recommend this book enough.
Bob Yandian does a good job at compressing what is a very dense series of theological principles into a very short book. His second book (Volume 2) is just as insightful. His discussion of the Fall of Man in Genesis and its ramifications is compelling. Yandian then goes onto discuss other issues, such as propitiation, justification, and one which has been the bane of Christianity for centuries: predestination. Yandian unpacks each topic well enough to explain it well without taking the reader thousands of feet below the ocean surface. I do recommend this book for those who would like a basic understanding of Christian principles.
