‘বোম্বাইয়ের বোম্বেটে’ থেকে সেবার হিন্দি ছবি করছিলেন যে-তরুণ চিত্রপরিচালক, তাঁরই নতুন ছবির শুটিং দার্জিলিঙে। এ-কাহিনীও জটায়ুর। জটায়ুর সঙ্গে ফেলুদা-তোপ্‌সেকেও সাদর আমন্ত্রণ জানিয়েছেন পরিচালক। সেই সূত্রেই ফেলুদার দার্জিলিঙে পদার্পণ। আর কী অদ্ভুত ভাগ্যের ফের, সেবারের মতো এবারও ফেলুদাকে নামতে হল গোয়েন্দার ভূমিকায়।

যাঁর বাড়িতে শুটিং, খুন হলেন সেই বৃদ্ধ গৃহকর্তা। অতীব কৌতূহলকর চরিত্রের বৃদ্ধ। দিনে ঘুমোন, রাত্রে জেগে থাকেন। খবরের কাগজ থেকে যাবতীয় গরম খবরের কাটিং জমান খাতায়। কে খুন করল তাঁকে? কেনই-বা এই খুন?

বৃদ্ধের অতীত জীবনের অধ্যায় ঘেঁটে কীভাবে ফেলুদা উদ্ধার করলেন নানান চমকপ্রদ সূত্র আর কীভাবে তার সাহায্যে ছাড়ালেন সমুদয় রহস্যের জট, তাই নিয়েই এই দুর্ধর্য উপন্যাস। বইটির প্রচ্ছদ ও অলঙ্করণ করেছেন সত্যজিৎ রায়।

About the author

Satyajit Ray (Bengali: সত্যজিৎ রায়) was an Indian filmmaker and author of Bengali fiction and regarded as one of the greatest auteurs of world cinema. Ray was born in the city of Calcutta into a Bengali family prominent in the world of arts and literature. Starting his career as a commercial artist, Ray was drawn into independent filmmaking after meeting French filmmaker Jean Renoir and watching Vittorio De Sica's Italian neorealist 1948 film, Bicycle Thieves.

Ray directed 36 films, including feature films, documentaries and shorts. He was also a fiction writer, publisher, illustrator, calligrapher, graphic designer and film critic. He authored several short stories and novels, primarily aimed at children and adolescents.

Ray's first film, Pather Panchali (1955), won eleven international prizes, including Best Human Documentary at the Cannes Film Festival. This film, Aparajito (1956) and Apur Sansar (1959) form The Apu Trilogy. Ray did the scripting, casting, scoring, and editing, and designed his own credit titles and publicity material. Ray received many major awards in his career, including 32 Indian National Film Awards, a number of awards at international film festivals and award ceremonies, and an Academy Award in 1992. The Government of India honoured him with the Bharat Ratna in 1992.

Early Life and Background:
Ray's grandfather, Upendrakishore Ray Chowdhury was a writer, illustrator, philosopher, publisher, amateur astronomer and a leader of the Brahmo Samaj, a religious and social movement in nineteenth century Bengal. Sukumar Ray, Upendrakishore's son and father of Satyajit, was a pioneering Bengali author and poet of nonsense rhyme and children's literature, an illustrator and a critic. Ray was born to Sukumar and Suprabha Ray in Calcutta.

Ray completed his B.A. (Hons.) in Economics at Presidency College of the University of Calcutta, though his interest was always in Fine Arts. In 1940, he went to study in Santiniketan where Ray came to appreciate Oriental Art. In 1949, Ray married Bijoya Das and the couple had a son, Sandip ray, who is now a famous film director.

Literary Works:
Ray created two of the most famous fictional characters ever in Bengali children's literature—Feluda, a sleuth in Holmesian tradition, and Professor Shonku, a genius scientist. Ray also wrote many short stories mostly centered on Macabre, Thriller and Paranormal which were published as collections of 12 stories. Ray wrote an autobiography about his childhood years, Jakhan Choto Chilam (1982). He also wrote essays on film, published as the collections: Our Films, Their Films (1976), Bishoy Chalachchitra (1976), and Ekei Bole Shooting (1979).

Awards, Honors and Recognitions:
Ray received many awards, including 32 National Film Awards by the Government of India. At the Moscow Film Festival in 1979, he was awarded for the contribution to cinema. At the Berlin Film Festival, he was one of only three to win the Silver Bear for Best Director more than once and holds the record for the most Golden Bear nominations, with seven. At the Venice Film Festival, he won a Golden Lion for Aparajito(1956), and awarded the Golden Lion Honorary Award in 1982. In 1992 he was posthumously awarded the Akira Kurosawa Award for Lifetime Achievement in Directing at the San Francisco International Film Festival.

ফেলুদার আরেকটি গল্প, আর এবারে পটভূমি দার্জিলিং। ফেলুদাকে আমরা রূপালী-পর্দার জগতে প্রথম দেখি বোম্বাইয়ের বোম্বেটেতে, যখন বলিউডের চিত্রনির্দেশক পুলক ঘোষাল লালমোহন বাবুর গল্প থেকে একটি চলচ্চিত্র বানানোয় হাত দেন। সেই গল্পে ফিল্মও বানানো হয়, আর ফেলুদাও তারই মাঝে বোম্বাইয়ের এক বড় চোরাচালানকারীকে জব্দ করে। যাই হোক, তার বছরখানেক পরে পুলকবাবু আবারও লালমোহনবাবুর আরেকটি গল্প থেকে নতুন একটি সিনেমা বানানো শুরু করেন, আর দৃশ্যধারণের জায়গা হিসেবে বেছে নেওয়া হয় দার্জিলিং শহরটিকে। ফেলুদা ও তোপসের ইচ্ছে ছিল যে শুটিং দেখার সাথে সাথে তাদের প্রথম গোয়েন্দাগিরির জায়গাটিতে আরেকবার ঘুরে আসার, কিন্তু সেখানে গিয়ে যে তাদের আরেকবার তদন্তে নামতে হবে, তা কে জানত?

ফেলুদার শুরুর গল্পের পটভূমি ছিল দার্জিলিং। এবার ঘুরেফিরে অনেকদিন পরে আবার এলাম সেই দার্জিলিং। ফেলুদা আর তোপসের সাথে আমিও নস্টালজিক হয়ে গেলাম। যাই হোক, এবারের গল্পে খুনের তদন্ত করে ফেলুদা। লালুবাবুর গল্পের উপরে বানানো ফিল্মের শুটিং দেখতে গিয়ে খুনের তদন্ত শুরু করে ফেলুদা। কিন্তু খুনটা প্রথমে দেখতে যত সোজা মনে হয়েছিল সময়ক্রমে তা খুবই জটিল হয়ে দাঁড়ায়। গল্পের প্লট বেশ ভাল। ক্রমান্বয়ে রহস্যের জাল ছাড়ানোটা বেশ ভাল হয়েছে। শেষে দিয়ে তো আমি নিজেই উত্তেজিত হয়ে যাচ্ছিলাম।

অনেকদিন পরে ফেলুদা। অনেকদিন পরে বইয়ে ফেরা। অনেক দিন পরে দার্জিলিংয়ের স্মৃতিতে ফেরা। অনেক ভালো লাগার গল্প।

জটায়ুর গল্প থেকে সিনেমা হবে। সিনেমা পরিচালক জটায়ু এবং তার দল কে নিমন্ত্রণ দিলেন। সে উদ্দেশ্যে তাদের এবারের গন্তব্য স্থল দার্জিলিং।

লালমোহন বাবু প্রথম বারের মতো দার্জিলিং আসলেন। তাই তার আগ্রহ একটু বেশি। তিনি কাঞ্চনজঙ্ঘা দেখলেন প্রথমবার। এই নিয়ে তার আনন্দের শেষ নেই। ফেলুদা'র আগ্রহ তেমন নেই,তাও স্বত্তেও তিনি খোশ মেজাজে আছেন। কারণ ফেলুদা’র মতে দার্জিলিং আসলে মানুষের বয়স আর্ধেক কমে যায়।

দার্জিলিং আসার উদ্দেশ্য সিনেমা। অবশেষে সেই সিনেমার শুটিং শুরু হলো। সৌভাগ্যক্রমে সেই শুটিং জায়গা পেয়ে যান লালমোহন বাবু। অর্থ্যা তিনি ও শুটিং করবেন,ভিলেনের পার্ট। লালমোহন বাবুর শুটিং, ফেলুদার আর তপেশের ঘোরাঘুরি সব মিলিয়ে তাদের দিন ভালোই কাটছিল।

সিনেমার শুটিং হচ্ছিল বিরুপাক্ষ মজুমদার নামের এক ভদ্রলোকের বাড়িতে। তিনি বেশ অদ্ভুত একটা লোক ছিলেন। হঠাৎ শোনা যায় এই ভদ্রলোক খুন হন।

তারপর যা ঘটার তাই ঘটল। রহস্যের গন্ধ পেয়ে তদন্তে নেমে পড়ল আমাদের ফেলু মিত্তির....

সত্যজিৎ রায়ের লেখা আমাকে বরাবর মুগ্ধ করে। কোন সময় এর ব্যতিক্রম ঘটে নি। এবার ও না। অসাধারণ ।

গল্পটার নাম কি সুন্দর, "দার্জিলিং জমজমাট"! নামটা পড়েই বইটাকে ভালোবেসেছিলাম। এবার গল্পটাও পড়লাম। সিনেমা দলের সাথে দার্জিলিং ঘুরতে গিয়ে রহস্যের গন্ধ পেয়ে যায় ফেলুদা, কাহিনী জমতে শুরু করলেও কোনভাবেই এর কুলকিনারা খুঁজে পাওয়া যাচ্ছিলো না। কিন্তু ফেলুদা তো ফেলুদা, ঠিক ই রহস্যের কিনারা বের করে ফেললো। নামের মতোই সুন্দর বইটা!

জমজমাটই বটে!

বাংলায় অডিও-বই এর হাতেখড়ি হলো সত্যজিৎ রায়ের ফেলুদা সিরিজের "দার্জিলিং জমজমাট" এর সাথে। ফেলুদা যারা পড়েছেন আর চলচ্চিত্রে উপভোগ করেছেন তাদের জন্য অডিও বইটা একটু বেশি স্পেশাল। সিনেমা দেখার পর থেকে ফেলুদা পড়তে গেলে আমি সব্যসাচী চক্রবর্তীকে ফেলুদার চরিত্রে কল্পনা করি। উনার গমগমে কণ্ঠস্বর, মীরের পারদর্শী কণ্ঠ আর সেই যে ফেলুদার ব্যাকগ্রাউন্ড মিউজিক - সব মিলে বাঙালি পাঠকের কাছে এর চাইতে বিশেষ উপহার আর হয় না।

বইটা মূলত রেডিও শ্রোতাদের জন্য প্রকাশ করা। আমি শুনলাম ইউটিউবে "Mirchi Bangla" চ্যানেলে। ফেলুদা নিয়ে রিভিউ করার কিছু নেই। অন্য একটা প্রসঙ্গে বলি। "জটায়ু" চরিত্রটা ডিটেকটিভ উপন্যাসের সাসপেন্স এর মাঝেও একটু হালকা ভাব নিয়ে আসে। জটায়ুর গলা শুনেই হাসতে শুরু করে দিচ্ছিলাম। দারুন কণ্ঠ দিয়েছেন জগন্নাথ বসু।

সত্যজিৎ রায় পড়লে, শুনলে কিংবা দেখলে, নিজেকে বাঙালি মনে করে খুব গর্বিত হই। সন্দীপ রায়ও বাবার ক্লাসিকাল ধারাটা ফলো করে এসেছেন। প্রিয় সিরিজের অডিও-বই হওয়ায় দারুণ সঙ্গী পাওয়া গেল বিকেলবেলা হাঁটার জন্য।

ফেলুদার প্রথম দিকের গল্পের পটভূমি ছিল দার্জিলিং। বহুদিন পর এবার আবার সেই দার্জিলিংয়ে ফিরে এসে আমারও ফেলুদা–তোপসের সঙ্গে নস্টালজিয়ায় ডুবে যেতে হল। যাই হোক, এই গল্পে ফেলুদা একটি খুনের রহস্যের অনুসন্ধানে নামে। লালুবাবুর গল্প অবলম্বনে নির্মিত একটি চলচ্চিত্রের শুটিং দেখতে গিয়েই সেই তদন্তের সূত্রপাত। শুরুতে হত্যাকাণ্ডটি যতটা সহজ বলে মনে হয়েছিল, সময়ের সঙ্গে সঙ্গে তা ততটাই জটিল রূপ নেয়। কাহিনির গাঁথুনি বেশ শক্তপোক্ত, আর ধাপে ধাপে রহস্যের জট খুলে যাওয়ার ভঙ্গিটাও দারুণ। শেষের দিকে এসে আমি নিজেও রীতিমতো উত্তেজনায় ভরে উঠেছিলাম।

Feluda was originally written by Satyajit Ray for the children’s magazine ‘Sandesh’. The popularity of the series was such that Ray went on to include a few adult themes in the later stories when he realized that even adults were enjoying the series.
I actually read Feluda before Agatha Christie and as such Feluda was my introduction to detective fiction. The best part of the stories is the evergreen manner of Ray’s narrative. I remember reading ‘Baadhshahi Angti’ which was written in 1960s and when I visited Lucknow in 1990s, I could still recognize the places described in the book. The other thing that I loved about the series was that in every story we learned something new – be it about geometry or about telepathy.
Absolutely and irrevocably in love with Feluda and his adventures – forever a fan.

গল্পটির নামটি যেমন জমজমাট তেমনি গল্পটিও ছিল জমজমাট। দার্জিলিং শহরের ওয়েদার তার সাথে ফেলুদার আবার আবির্ভাব নতুন গল্পের সাথে। লালমোহন বাবুর নতুন গল্পের ছবি শুটিং এর সাথে জড়িত খুনের রহস্যের কাহিনী পুরো গল্পটিকে জমজমাট করে তুলছে।

ফেলুদার সাথে সদ্য পরিচয় হওয়া মজুমদার সাহেব খুন হলেন। প্রধান সাস্পেক্ট করা হল চাকর লোকনাথ কে । ফেলুদার অবশ্য চিন্তা অন্য দিকে। খাদে ফেলে মেরে ফেলার চেষ্টা করা হল তাকে। এক গাদা প্রশ্নের উত্তর জানতে তদন্তে নামল আমাদের ফেলুবাবু।

"অবশ্য শুধু সাব্লাইম নয়, তার সঙ্গে স্বর্গীয়, হেভেনলি, অপার্থিব, অনির্বচনীয় ইত্যাদি আরো বিশেষণ ব্যাবহার করে ফেললেন লালমোহন বাবু" ... আর জটায়ুর মতন আমরাও আরো বিশেষণ ব্যাবহার করতে পারি এই গল্পের পুনঃমূল্যায়নে ।
দার্জিলিং সত্যিই জমজমাট ।।

এই গল্পে লালমোহনবাবু যে কেবল লেখক থেকে চলচ্চিত্রভিনেতায় প্রমোশন পেলেন তাই না, ফেলুদার গোয়েন্দাগিরির খোলা দর্শক থেকে এই প্রথম তিনি সাসপেক্টের মর্যাদা পেলেন। ওনার দেয়া ক্লু ছাড়া অনেক রহস্যই অমিমাংসিত রয়ে যেতো।

The story starts off with the murder of Birupaksha Majumder who was the managing director of Bengal Bank and the owner of old house in Darjeeling where the shooting of a film will be performed. So, Feluda,Lalmohanbabu and Topse come there with other casting members to shoot the film. The purpose of investigate the murder is to put forward a unknown truth that is completely hidden in darkness. But will they ever come across the dark secret?

The book is well explained by the author with each and every minute details of the plot that kept me hooked till the end. Unless to say, the book is for every age group.

I loved the hard cover with intriguing title. Honestly, I loved the climax that was really unpredictable.

Overall, it was a good short read.
📣Recommendation: yes! I belive this book is apt for everyone who can read bengali.

The 'mystery' in the Feluda mysteries is almost invariably as transparent as tissue paper but I read them for their amiability, their sense of place (in this case, Darjeeling), for their snapshots of India at a particular time (mid-60s through 80s), and most of all for Lalmohan Babu who looked like Santosh Dutta in my head before I knew that he'd acted the role. I'm not sure if this one measures up to a 4 star rating but when Feluda is what you need, he's what you need. That the culprit was obvious from the start in no way lessened my enjoyment.

জটায়ুর নতুন ছবি শুটিং চলছে দার্জিলিং এ। সাথে ছবির হিরো রাজেন রায়না রয়েছে। শুটিং হবে মি মজুমদার এর বাড়িতে। সে বাড়িতে ২ টা খুন হয়। মজুমদারবাবুর আর বেয়ারা লোকনাথ এর। খুন এর তদন্তে বের হয় যে আসলে ম্যানেজার রজতবাবু ঘুমের ঔষুধ খাইয়ে মজুমদারবাবুকে খুন করতে চেয়েছিলো , লোকনাথ বাঁধা দেয়ায় তাকে খুন করে। আর মজুমদারবাবুকে খুন করে রাজেনবাবু। আসলে রাজেনবাবু আগে মজুমদারবাবুর ব্যাংকে কাজ করতো, টাকা চুরি করে পালিয়ে যায়। তাই মজুমদারবাবু যাতে চিনতে না পারে সেজন্য তাকে মেরে ফেলে।

মূলত অডিওবুক শোনা হয়েছে। দারুণ, ফেলুদা সিরিজের আরো একটি অসাধারণ রচনা।

অডিওবুকে অন্যরকমভাবে অনুভুত হয়েছে ডায়ালগ গুলো। যদিও নিজে পড়লে নিজের কল্পনায় চরিত্রগুলো অন্যভাবে নিজের মত করে ধরা দিতো, তবে প্রতিটি চরিত্রের কন্ঠস্বর ছিল চমৎকার।

ফেলুদা, তোপসের সাথে জটায়ুর ভূমিকা রচনাটায় বাড়তি মাত্রা যোগ করে, বাড়তি ভাললাগার রেশ রাখে।

As always, the story was pretty engaging but seemed as though it was lacking twists and thrills and surprises that are the qualities of Feluda stories.
There was an unexpected turn though in the end but the story seemed too long for it.
Nevertheless, I don't think I can ever get tired of Adventures of Feluda!!

Just finished two books of "Feluda" by Satyajit Ray written on Darjeeling location. Preparing myself for the upcoming Bengali detective web-series "Feludar Goyendagiri Darjeeling Jomjomat".

English translations of all books by Satyajit Ray are also available. The books are highly recommended for all ages.

এখন মনে হচ্ছে আমার আরও আগেই ফেলুদা পড়ে ফেলার উচিত ছিল। খুব ভালো হতো যদি ক্লাস সিক্স কিংবা সেভেনের দিকেই পড়ে ফেলতে পারতাম। তাহলে হয়তো আরও ভালোভাবে উপভোগ করতে পারতাম। যাকগে! এখন যে পড়া হচ্ছে সেটাও কম না।
