Would you gamble everything you possess to win more than you can imagine?

Jewish gangster, Alex Cohen leaves jail to find salvation from the 1940s mob in the hotels of Las Vegas. When Bugsy Siegel invites him to take over sports betting in Nevada, Alex must figure out how to get back to the top table in New York without attracting the Feds' attention.

If he succeeds then he will regain his self respect, but if he fails then the last members of the national crime syndicate will cut him dead and he will be left a nobody or wind up a corpse. And after he bumps into his childhood sweetheart, he has a once in a lifetime opportunity to win her heart. But Alex knows the criminal underworld has the habit of spilling over into his personal life and when Meyer Lansky asks him to murder Siegel, Alex must choose what is truly important to him.

The fourth book in the Alex Cohen series is an historical thriller novel, which rips open the Jewish mob's involvement in the birth of modern Vegas. Leopold Borstinski's shattering crime fiction deals a royal flush to each reader.

A very interesting story as we learn of the old-time mobsters in the 1940's!! With history thrown in that helps you understand just what was going on in these times, we enjoy a snippet of the life of Alex Cohen. Alex is a Jewish gangster, just released from prison and looking to regain his life with his friends and family in the mob. Not an easy step, but Bugsy Siegel invites him to Nevada, and his 'new' life begins!!
Alex quickly takes over sports betting and rollicking Las Vegas is born. He finds himself lucky to meet up with an old sweetie from his younger days, falling in love again...But his criminal life does not leave your personal life alone, no matter who you are, and Alex soon faces a question he finds hard to fathom...Can he kill his friend, the man who helped him get back in his world?!
A great story of a time span not that long ago, and fantastic depictions of the characters and scenes unfolding then!
I received an ARC from the author, who I thank, and I offer You my honest thoughts and feelings in this review.

Casino Chiseler is the 4th Book in the Alex Cohen Series by Leopold Borstinski. This gangster saga charting the life and times of Jewish Mobster Alex Cohen just gets better and better.

A fan from book 1, along with Damp Pebbles Tours, I have followed Alex’s Journey and this is undoubtedly my favourite yet.

Alex is back on the scene following the events of book 3 , and he’s looking to get back in with the gang that matters, the murder corp, whilst earning some much needed cash. This leads Alex to the bright lights and the big money of Las Vegas.

This fast paced thriller/historical noir is a triumph, as Alex works his way back in to favour, this story is full of murder, gambling, money and more.

There are also some heart breaking moments for fans of the series, that Borstinski absolutely nails.

This is fast and furious reading. The book spans a decade in Alex’s life and it positively speeds along, carrying you in Alex’s devastating path.

It’s enthralling, compelling, thoroughly entertaining stuff, punched with violence throughout. Alex is the protagonist you hate to love. He’s bad, He’s devious, he’s a bit of a machine in some ways but he is just a brilliantly created character.

Whilst enjoyable as a standalone, I would suggest getting at book 1, more so you don’t miss anything, as the characters carry through the books.

Brutally good. Gangsters don’t come harder than Alex Cohen, and this series is up there with my very favourite.

There is a feeling that this is building up to a quite explosive and extraordinary crescendo in books to come. I for one can’t wait for the next....

Intensely good stuff.

This is the fourth book in the Alex Cohen saga, and it’s absolutely amazing!! I am a late arrival of this series, but from reading my first a while ago I was instantly hooked and super excited to read more from Alex Cohen, so when I was offered the chance to be apart of the blog tour for; Casino Chiseler, I literally jumped at the chance.

What I really like about this series is that you can dip in whenever you like, I know this as I did start the series at book three, and I never felt that I had missed out on anything to be able to follow the story, each book can very easily be read as a stand-alone.

I was super excited about Casino Chiseler as we have now moved into one of my favourite era’s; the ’40s, newly released from prison, Alex thinks that the syndicate have deserted him, he thinks that he is once again alone and resigned to having to start again. But, those close friends whom he thought had left him high and dry are still around and they need him.

Alex heads for the bright lights of Vegas and finds himself right bang in the middle of it all as he is back doing what he does best; being the hired thug, but our Alex is far more than a kneecap basher he has his sights high. I really like Alex, even though he is a gangster and a notorious killer but I still really like him, he has layers that peel away the more you get to know him, he is a complex man and at times you do feel for him especially when he is constantly having his loyalties and his characters tested just because he is Jewish.

I like the mix of glittery and darkness that runs through it, the dark in the form of what Alex must do and his involvement with the Mafia and the lighter with the glimmer of love and friendship in the form of a long lost sweetheart, but as ever things move quickly in the underworld and with the war coming there is more urgent and feverish pacing that I thought was thrilling.

I loved the opening, it really sets the reader up for what becomes a wonderfully edge of your seat crime thriller, I really liked the sneaky look into 1950 in the opening, which makes you hungry for more and get’s you thinking about what is going to happen in the story to have our not-quite-a-hero, Alex, in the position he is in and then boom; we are flung back to the 40’s where the story begins and from then on we are in for a real ride as Alex makes his mark all over again.

I thoroughly enjoyed Casino Chiseler, it’s like a roll of the dice or a spin of the roulette wheel; in other words, it’s compulsive and thrilling!

It is a brilliant gangster thriller, it’s both nail-biting, brutal, gritty and exciting, yet there is a classy, glamourous and sophisticated feel to it that I really enjoyed delving into. This is easily my favourite yet, the writing if full of raw, realistic historical depth and detail that pulls you further and further into Alex’s world, I am super excited for the next one, I honestly cannot wait to see what is in store for Alex, he really is one of my favourite characters, he’s not a hero but he’s not exactly a villain, but whatever side he fancies himself he is mesmerising.

Another installment of the Alex Cohen series! With every book in this series I am falling more and more in love with this series!

Alex is just out of prison, down on his luck and needs to get back to the top of the mafia. Moving to Las Vegas to help run casinos seems like the perfect new start.

I am really enjoying the series. Although Alex is gangster and uses a lot of violence to get what he wants I love him as a main character. He is very smart and thinks things through before making decisions because one mistake could cause him his life. Whereas some of the side characters jump right into a situation which never ends well.

Throughout this story we do watch Alex struggle, both with his personal life and trying to rise back into power.

I loved this story and read it in two sittings! This series is definitely something you should check out. This is a really fast paced, well crafted story full of action, high stakes, characters you will hate and characters you love! Check it out!

Welcome to the fourth book in the Alex Cohen saga, Casino Chiseler!

Alex is out of prison, after being caught up in the Feds' concerted efforts to take down some high profile mobsters on tax evasion charges. He is feeling a little abandoned by the syndicate, but soon comes to realise that he still has friends in high places - friends who continue to have need for his singular talents.

So, Alex finds himself heading west to Vegas, baby! Times they are a changing for Alex and his mobster friends and the betting game is where it's at now. Alex is given the job of taking over sports betting in Nevada, and he goes at it with his usual verve - wheeling, dealing (pardon the pun) and with his special brand of violence to get his syndicate buddies exactly what they want and ruffling some rather important feathers along the way.

Of course, Alex's personal life gets in the way of business, as always, friendships are put under enormous strain and there are some important decision for Alex to make if he really wants to get back in with his mob bosses. Romance-wise a name from the past puts in an appearance, but things get complicated and we see him heading in quite an unexpected direction at the end of the book, which promises interesting things to come. It was very pleasing to see some more interesting storylines for the females in the book too, which have been a bit lacking in the past - more than the usual bit parts for gangsters' molls. Hurray!

It was a refreshing change to find Alex on different ground in this fourth book, as it was nice to move away from the well trodden turf of New York and Chicago. This time, Leopold Borstinski gives us a fascinating glimpse of the early days of mob involvement in the growth of the gamblers' playgrounds in Nevada - not just the mobster machinations involved to get ahead of the competitors, but also the intriguing part played by Hollywood royalty in the establishment of Vegas as a glittering jewel in the gangsters' crown. There are familiar names from the gangster scene that still make an appearance (one at least in rather less glamorous circumstances than we normally picture them), and also those from stage and screen - some to be expected, such as George Raft and a young Sinatra, but also some rather more surprising ones which made me raise an eyebrow or two.

Casino Chiseler was an all round entertaining read, full of gangster noir and echoes of the best books and films in the genre . I thought this one was a bit more sophisticated than the previous three books in terms of plot, as it takes us into some less travelled mobster territory and gives a bit more depth to Alex's character, and this drives the story along nicely.

I am really looking forward to the next book in the Alex Cohen series, Cuban Heel, coming 2021!

All of my reviews can be found at https://damppebbles.com/

I chose to read and review an eARC of Casino Chiseler but that has in no way influenced my review.

My favourite gangster is back but this time he’s moved halfway across the country to make his fortune in Las Vegas, baby! Having had the syndicate turn their backs on him, it’s time for Alex Cohen to up-sticks and make his name elsewhere. This is another super addition to a very readable series and I really enjoyed it.

Alex Cohen’s connection to the powerful syndicate who always had his back has been severed. Following a short stint in Sing Sing, he leaves jail with only a fraction of his fortune and very few friends. But that’s not going to keep a man like Alex down, no siree! When Benny ‘Bugsy’ Siegel invites Cohen to Las Vegas and offers him the chance to have a hand in a new sports betting wire, Cohen sees it as the perfect opportunity to regain some respect from the syndicate and work his way back to the top. But Cohen is playing a deadly game and you can bet that someone is going to get hurt…

This is the fourth book in the author’s Alex Cohen Series of historical thrillers and it’s wonderful blend of fact and fiction really pulls the reader into the story. I adore Las Vegas, so for me, reading a part-fictional/part-fact account of modern Vegas’ early days was fascinating. I even ended up Googling a couple of things to see how the book compared to what actually happened.

Once again, and as with all previous books in this series, there’s a lot to squeeze in (the reader gets to see Cohen’s life over the course of 10 years) so it’s pretty non-stop action from the start. I think you could read Casino Chiseler as a standalone but it’s worth investing in the series and seeing Cohen grow from the moment he lands on the shores of New York as a teen. Past events are often referred to, so to understand the history between the characters fully, I would suggest starting with The Bowery Slugger. And on that note, it was wonderful to see Rebecca – his teenage crush – return to Cohen’s life. But oh boy, has she changed!

Would I recommend this book? I would, yes. If you’re a fan of historical thrillers and you can stomach a little spilt blood (they’re gangsters, it goes with the territory!) then I recommend Casino Chiseler and the other books in the Alex Cohen Series. They’re gritty but full of heart too. Despite being a pretty terrible human being and killing frequently without remorse, you can’t help but like Alex and become invested in his journey. I will say, the ending came a little out of the blue for me. It was a sudden change of direction which threw me a little. I look forward to reading book five – Cuban Heel – soon and seeing where the author takes things. Recommended.

I chose to read and review a free eARC of Casino Chiseler. The above review is my own unbiased opinion.

I'm always excited to read another book in the Alex Cohen series and Casino Chiseler was fabulous. It's like chatting to a friend that you haven't seen for a while and catching up on what they've been up to . . . and Alex has been a busy guy!

Recently released from prison, Alex is feeling somewhat neglected by members of the syndicate who he had considered to be his friends. During his incarceration he had little or no contact from any of them and he's found himself in a very different America since becoming a free man.

Appearances can be deceptive though, it doesn't take Alex long to resume connections and make his way to where all the action is - Las Vegas!

Vegas is in its infancy and it's THE place to be for mobsters - casino's, gambling, hotels, drinking and prostitution are all ways for them to ensure a steady income if they play their cards right! Alex is soon right back in the action, doing what he does best, using his charm and powers of persuasion to coerce buisnesses into paying for their protection. He's happy to be back doing what he knows and he's even happier when a familiar face from the past re-enters his life. This happiness is short lived though as someone takes umbrage to Alex's actions but it's someone else who ends up paying the ultimate price.

Despite the fact that Alex is a gangster I find him to be a very likeable character. Underneath his tough exterior he does have morals and can be vulnerable under certain circumstances, particularly where his family is concerned.

Casino Chiseler is another superb book in this enthralling series. I love the fact that Leopold Borstinski seamlessly weaves fact with fiction which makes for fascinating reading. It also means that it will appeal to fans of both historical fiction and crime thrillers alike, which is a very clever move on the author's part. The short sharp chapters make for compelling reading and makes putting this book down very difficult as it would mean leaving the characters in a sometimes precarious situation - something I don't like doing, so I simply have to read on!

If you haven't read any of these books I honestly can't recommend them highly enough and I'm already eagerly awaiting the next book in the series.

Casino Chiseller by Leopold Borstinski is the fourth instalment in the Alex Cohen series. A gangster saga that follows the Jewish mobster Alex Cohen through the years. This series just gets better with every book I pick up. This book sees Alex having been released from prison and feeling like he has been left high and dry by the syndicate. He decides that although the syndicate has cut ties, he still has friends that need his type of talent.
Alex goes to Las Vegas to his friend there, Benny. He is soon back in the game coercing people to pay up their insurance money, with his particular brand of persuasion. Extortion rackets have been around for years all that changes are the people at the head of the game. We get a glimpse of how the mob was involved in the growth of these gambling places in Las Vegas and we also see some well known mobsters pass through as well as stars of the stage and screen.
We also see some emotional and heartbreaking moments for those of us that have been here for the ride, which are written perfectly. Alex's personal life, as always gets in the way and friendships are put to the test as Alex decides if he really wants to get back in with the mob bosses. These decisions are paramount to his cause.
As always this gangster Noir saga had me in the palm of it's hand. I really enjoyed the setting of Las Vegas it made a change and we saw a bit more of Alex himself. The real man and his character, it created even more depth to an already fantastic story with excellently created characters. As always it was a fast-paced story that sped through ten years of Alex's life but felt like a drop in the ocean. An engrossing and compelling book with the right amount of violence that is expected from mobsters and I loved it, again! A story of historical fiction artfully weaved together by one heck of an author.
Thank you to Damp Pebbles Blog Tours and Leopold Borstinski for allowing me to be on this blog tour and for my copy of the book to write this review today.

I am absolutely loving this series and have enjoyed each book. Casino Chiseler is the 4th book in the Alex Cohen series and Alex is making his way back into the fold after his spell in Sing Sing prison for tax evasion. Alex was part of a group called The Murder Corporation, a group that was the go-to people for a contract killing. This is America, Al Capone has already been imprisoned, the Mafia is on the up, loyalty is paramount and these are dangerous times. WWII has begun as Alex now sets his sights on Vegas.

Alex rejoins his friend Benny in Las Vegas. Benny had the foresight years ago to look towards Vegas as being the place to set up shop. Alex is soon back in the thick of things as he coerces people to pay up in the insurance game, after all, you don't want your business to accidentally burn down or one of your employees to suffer a tragic injury. Extortion is not a new game, but those that run the game does change. Stepping on toes is inevitable and danger lurks in a passing car with a gunman.

I love the sense of urgency that this book has. Even though it spans a decade it runs across the years quickly. Buildings take time to build and get everything in place to guarantee a healthy profit. It moves along at a fast pace and the drama is still very evident. Now I know that Alex is a gangster, he is a killer and he is dangerous but I really do like this character.

This is a series that has followed Alex since his arrival in the country. Jews are still not trusted and this is evident within this story as newer members are unsure where Alex's loyalties really lie. Alex's loyalty will be tested in this book.

A fabulous series that is full of action all the way through from the first step of a Jewish immigrant on US soil through prohibition and now moving up into the world of gambling. It is one for readers who like historical fiction that is working its way through the decades and one I would absolutely recommend.

Life of enforcer as Las Vegas starts up as a gambling Mecca for a crime syndicate - 4 stars

Alex Cohen is the enforcer par excellence. If there is a problem, Alex will fix it, usually by shooting a weapon. His organization skills are top notch. His Jewish heritage is seen as a disadvantage by the Italians. The time period spans the development of Las Vegas from 1941 through 1950.

Alex makes connections, sets up protection payments, prostitution and pays protection to the police. When a card dealer is suspected of playing against the house, Alex investigates and makes an example of the "fella". Outside Las Vegas there are many shallow graves filled with men who crossed the crime syndicate.

Alex sets up a wire service to provide racing results to book makers. He muscles out the existing service after it won't pay protection; a wire ser news service become a profitable sideline. There is nothing that Alex can't do except protect his "skirt".

When another crime boss orders a hit on Alex, the gunslingers miss Alex and hit his "skirt". Even when devastated by his woman's death, Alex keeps going and does what is needed to develop Las Vegas.

The story behind the Flamingo gambling resort is especially interesting for the graft, shoddy construction and changes in ownership. You will get a new appreciation for the resort's name after reading this tale. The story is narrated in a folksy way as if you were in the room with Alex. You will meet some of America's notorious crime figures including Charles Luciano, Albert Anastasia, Meyer Lansky and Benny Siegal. This is fascinating reading.

Casino Chiseler is the fourth book in the Alex Cohen series, and we meet up with him after he has been released from prison and the life he was used to is not there anymore. Divorced from his wife Sarah, most of the people he used to count as friends and allies have deserted him and he is almost having to start from scratch again. Thrown a lifeline he makes his way to Las Vegas and begins working with Benny Segal. Can this be his way back into the syndicate he went to prison for, or will he end up dead and buried?
I have made no bones about the fact that I love this series or that it would probably not have been the type of book I would have normally read but Casino Chiseler is another gripping read and a great addition to the ongoing saga of Alex Cohen’s life. Yes, he is a gangster and does not shy away from the brutality that comes with that life, yet there is something that is quite addictive about him. You should hate him and everything he stands for but beneath the hard exterior is someone who has strong family values and a true sense of loyalty even when he feels let down by those he considers friends. With his past love making an appearance in his life again and the odds against him you have to wonder if he would ever consider turning his back on the life he knows. With one part of his life seemingly calm you just know that there is some twist of fate that will change the status quo that will fuel the decisions Alex makes and the actions he takes. He is determined to get back what he once lost and if it means taking out some of the main players then that is what he will do.
Each book covers a span of about 10 years and as the title hints this one covers the birth of the Vegas we see today. With characters and events that are very much part of history, Leopold Borstinski has created a character truly embedded in that world, one that you could very well imagine living and working in that era, striking fear in those who dared to cross him, yet he is also someone that you can’t help but admire in some way. The action as fast and as bloody as expected in this series and you have to wonder just how long Alex Cohen will be able to survive and stay on top. Thankfully I don’t have long to wait and find out as the next book is due out soon. Although each one can be read independently, to get the most out this series, trust me you really want to read them in order.

I’ve read other books in the Alex Cohen series always really enjoyed them. I am reviewing book 4 today and I chose this one because I absolutely love Las Vegas and this is the setting for most of the book, albeit a bit before my time, in the 1940’s. This is a well written and really enjoyable book. The descriptions of old Las Vegas were such that I could imagine myself there. The book deals with the Jewish mobs involvement in building Las Vegas into the gambling and entertainment capital it is today. It’s a gritty and exciting read, fast paced and a great storyline.

Briefly, gangster Alex Cohen has been released from jail but he is no longer welcomed at the top table. Trying to stay on the right side of the law, at least on the face of it, he needs to make his way back to the top echelons of the mob. His chance comes when Bugsy Siegel offers him a job in Las Vegas. Back in the business of extortion, gambling and murder Alex is now BACK in the sights of the syndicate and his star is rising. But for how long?

Although I’ve read the books totally out of order it hasn’t mattered as they stand-alone well but I’m definitely going to read the ones I’ve missed. And I know I shouldn’t; he’s a gangster, a murderer with dubious morals but I can’t help but like Alex. His personal life often gets in the way of ‘business’ and a relationship with him probably isn’t a great idea but there is just something about him I can’t resist. I really enjoyed this book and for me it’s a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ read.

Casino Chiseler is the fourth volume in the Alex Cohen series. Each book covers a different decade in Alex’s life, and with a Vegas backdrop, this novel gives us a look at the 1940s. This mafia thriller takes place during a time when gangsters were as big as the stars on the silver screen.

I’m going to start by saying that this book was not what I expected. I was hoping for non-stop action and a close up look at the big mafia names I grew up reading about. This novel has some action but not to the extent that I expected. I will admit to being a bit disappointed.

Most of the volume dealt with the mundane running of Vegas nightclubs. I found no spark to keep me glued to my seat while I devoured page after page with enthusiasm.

However, with that said, the book is entertaining. Alex is an intense character who does what needs doing. He takes orders from the Syndicate, and regardless of his personal feelings, he follows orders. This straight-faced behavior makes him a stand-up guy who I can admire and trust. While possibly viewed as an oxymoron considering Alex’s line of work, I do like him.

Since I read for entertainment, and this book is entertaining, I am confident in rating Casino Chiseler 3 out of 5 stars. If you enjoy historical novels and the old-time mob, you will enjoy this book.

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Casino Chiseler is the fourth installment in the Alex Cohen series, which focuses on the life Alex leads as a member of the Italian-Jewish National Crime Syndicate. The thing is, after serving his time in New York's Sing Sing Prison, Alex is no longer a member of the Syndicate. Adrift, he realizes that there is nothing holding him to the East Coast. His wife divorced him, and his reputation in New York is gone.

Alex goes west, originally to Los Angeles, then is invited to join Benny Siegal in the Nevada desert. Las Vegas in the 1940s is nothing like what we know of the city today. There was no glitz no glamour. Just a few dusty Tex-Mex themed hotels and a few gangsters following Benny's dream. For years Benny Siegal had planned a casino empire, claiming all he needed was "a pack of cards and some green baize."  Now he was turning that dream into a reality.

Alex starts by being Benny's right hand, managing first one, then two hotels. As time goes on, Benny and Alex start a sports betting wire service, the Trans-American, to rival the Nationwide News Service run out of Los Angeles. Over the years, Trans-American grows and ends up acquiring Nationwide(after the "unfortunate" assassination of the owner). Alex is still a gangster and will do what it takes to advance his career. There are protection schemes, betting schemes, and contract hits, Alex may be out of the Syndicate, but he'll do nearly anything to get back in.

It's not all graft and dirty deals. In Casino Chiseler, Alex is reunited with his first love Rebecca. She's a singer and dancer at one of the local Vegas show-houses and has shed her Old Country morality that kept her and Alex apart in the past. Alex is blissfully happy for a few years, until the danger that is his lifestyle destroys it and her. This loss shapes Alex and will provide some of the needed impetus to do the job that will finally guarantee him a place back at the Syndicate's table.

Sandwiched between vignettes of the 1950 Kefauver Commitee hearings for the US Senate Special Committee to Investigate Crime in Interstate Commerce, the 1940s span of Alex Cohen's life has to be the best written in the series to date! By showing the roots of Sin City's reputation was there from the start with organized crime and the shear scope of the kind of money made, Leo Borstinski has definitely written a winner!

The next book in the series, Cuban Heel, will be available in 2021.

This is my first experience of this author, but I was intrigued enough by the blurbs to give them a go even not having the first three.
I have recently become a fan of gangster/noir type books, and this is definitely firmly in that genre, and right up there amongst the best i've read.
It reads well as a standalone, but I do feel like i've missed out having not read the first three, something I hope to rectify as soon as I can.
It opens with Alex being released from prison, no welcoming party, after having been abadoned by the gang he was part of before.
He decides to head off to Las Vegas. I loved this setting. I'm surprised more gangster novels arent set there, as its perfect for the type of crimes they tend to commit.
This doesnt hold back, as you would expect it is violent, and brutal. Alex is a tough nut thought, he isnt beaten easily, and I liked that about him. It was nice to know that although there are a further two books that its not just that reason I know Alex is going to make it.
I also got to know Alex quite well, there was a lot of his personal story included, and the struggles with his own personal issues, along with trying to fight his way back to where he thinks he belongs in the mafia creates a great heart pounding contrasting narrative.
I couldnt put this down, and it is slightly shorter than than the normal books I read, so I flew through it. If the rest of the series carry on like this, then I cant wait to get started on them.

This is the fourth book in the fantastic Alex Cohen series and it gets better and better. This sees Alex just recently released from prison and trying to organise his life after being left high and dry by the syndicate. He ends up in Las Vegas - the city of opportunity!

Once again this was a great read from Leopold. It was amazing to see how Las Vegas was formed from dodgy deals and criminal activity. I had always thought it was Native lands and it was that group who developed it! You learn something new every day.

Alex also bumps into his high school sweetheart and now has the opportunity to win her heart all over again. What I did like was to see the effects of being in prison on Alex’s character. I especially liked the remorse of losing his family and especially that of his eldest son no longer acknowledging him. The character development was certainly well done on this issue.

This is a great continuation of the series and one I suggest you read! It’s fun, compelling with amazing characters, oozes the feel of when America was rife with gangsters and lives up to bill of a right good rollicking read!

Alex continues his murderous ways in LA and then in Las Vegas. He is still on the outs with the Syndicate, but gets occasional jobs from them. He works through the early days of Las Vegas and closely with Benny Siegal who is widely known as the father of Sin City. The characters are well-described, but have little depth. Actual events from history are deftly woven in to the narrative as the action takes place. The writing is clear and easy to read, which is to be expected from Borstinski. I start out with the notion that I don't need any more mob books, then I get captured quickly and lose myself in the stories. Two women from Alex's past make appearances, but heartbreak seems to dog Alex. This is one of the better books on Mafia activities. I requested a copy of this book from Hidden Gems books because I have read everything Borstinski has written and thoroughly enjoyed his style of writing.

Casino Chrysler by Leopold Borstinski is the fourth book in the Alex Cohen series and I am a big fan. The books keep getting better over time, and I really enjoy Borstinski’s writing style.
The plot is excellently paced. I was on the edge of my seat for the majority of the book and I really loved the twists and turns. This is a must read series for Crime Fiction lovers.
Excellent writing, entertaining and absorbing plot, and awesome characters. You can’t go wrong. Highly recommended.

This was the best book of the series so far. I love the way prison matured Alex. He is more controlled and level-headed in this book. The setting of Las Vegas was a nice change as well. It seems like everything is going to work out ok for Alex. He re-unites with the love of his life but in the end it appears he will be connecting with an old flame. Guess we'll have to wait for the next book to find out. This was a great continuation of the series.

I thoroughly enjoyed books 1 to 3 of this series, and this 4th book ("Casino Chiseler") didn't let me down. The story, characters, pacing are all perfect, but what really gets me about this series is the imagery. You can't fault Leopold Borstinski's writing and his ability to build a picture in your mind's eye. I can't wait for book 5!

This is the 5th book I've read written by Leopold Borstinski; he has done a great job at writing a good book; I will definitely be reading more of his books.

The story line caught my attention at the very beginning and kept me interested throughout the entire book.

The story of Alex Cohen continues as he works hand- in- hand with the Mob. Mr. Borstinski has written another fantastic book with realistic characters and an amazing story.

This is the Fourth book in the Alex Cohen series and another brilliant read. I have lived getting to know Alex and seeing him grow and become the man he is now. He’s not always a good guy, but he is loyal to those that are loyal to him.

This book sees us through the 1940’s, Alex is just out of jail after being sent down by the FBI for tax evasion. Determined not to get caught for that again Alex makes sure his paperwork is upto date. He had hope he would be back in the syndicate but there are some that still don’t trust Jews, sadly. Except for when they want Alex to do a hit of course!

This time round Alex ends up in Las Vegas this is just as gambling is starting up. As usual the story is full of action, racketeering, gambling, murder. Will we ever see Alex happy? There is a brief spell in this book where he sees his first love Rebecca, but how will things go?

I highly recommend this series, always a great read, with characters you will love and some you will hate. A very well written series, can’t wait to see what happens in book 5.

My Thoughts: Casino Chiseler is the 4th book in the Alex Cohen series! on the outside, the series itself seems like a fairly easy read but one that intrigued me instantly, – in reality it was complex and utterly gripping but still an easy story to follow.

In book 4 Alex has just been released from prison and makes his way Las Vegas to help a friend run his betting business, because obviously that’s where the money is now..however we are all aware that his end game is to get back in with the Murder Corp with the Mob Bosses.

As always with the series nothing is ever simple and Alex finds himself in a lot of situations that I’m sure he would rather avoid – one of them even including carrying out a hit that he never thought he’d have to do.

The story is action packed and just doesn’t stop but yet never seems to be confusing, we are reintroduced to an old character who i loved more this time round!

There was a lot of emotion in the story too, some parts really upset me whilst others really made me smile.

I cannot wait to dive back into the series and see what Alex gets up to next time!
