Curl up with this collection of spooky bigfoot tales from across the U.S. and beyond. These stories will transport you to places where the everyday experience of life gets gigantically interrupted by a huge, hairy hominid. As you’ll see again and again, the average person isn’t quite prepared to meet face-to-face with a monstrous, mythical beast of legend. When such meetings occur—in all kinds of unexpected places—the people involved get the fright of their lives and can do little more than try to survive the experience. While most experts agree that bigfoot isn’t an aggressive creature with malicious intent, the historical record is full of terrifying encounters with something that’s much bigger, faster, stronger and hairier than any human being. Those fortunate enough—or unfortunate enough—to have run into the creature almost always come away from the experience deeply shaken, as everything that they thought they knew about the natural world is instantly and forever turned upside down. So come along on a ride through this set of chilling bigfoot tales written by Don Shearer. You may come to question your beliefs about what’s possible in nature.
This did not turn out to be what I thought it would be. To be fair, I'm pretty certain I was not the intended audience. Normally that would not deter me, but I found the writing to be very amateurish. What I thought would be true encounters turned out to be a bunch of short stories about people encountering bigfoot, mainly kids and their family. A few stories stood out, but the majority felt repetitive. My 3 favorite stories:
1. The very first story in the book that, Foul Ball Fright with the boys playing baseball and encounter a sasquatch they run away. When they get far enough away and continue to watch what it does, the squatch throws their baseball back to them from a HUGE distance away. It was almost like it wanted to play ball with them.
2. I can't remember the name of the story, but a bunch of kids were at a camp sleeping in a cabin. Once of the little girls started having tummy issues in the middle of the night and had to go outside to the outhouse where she encounters a squatch that tries to move the outhouse. The kid did better than me because I am fairly certain I would have had to change my pants.
3. A family stops at a convenience store while driving at night. The dad has to use the bathroom, but the store's bathroom is out of order so he decides to go behind the store. While doing his business a squatch shows itself. Life the story before, I would have needed new pants.
This book was not what I expected. I thought it would be a collection of Bigfoot encounter tales. Instead, this is a collection of fictional family friendly tales. There are kids in every story and many of the encounters don't make sense. If you have read books containing encounter stories, the bulk are hunters and hikers, with few families unless they are habituation recounts. These stories also end abruptly instead of a conclusion. If you prefer realistic stories besides quick encounters, you must try any or all of Rusty Wilson's Bigfoot Campfire Tales. They are true, they are realistic and cover events both touching and terrifying, they cover many locations and Rusty is a far better storyteller.
This book is a good read of short stories. Each one is just the right length for a good read before going to bed. They were well written except for the last story which the author over did the use of words not usually used in a common conversation. Each story itself kept the reader glued to the story.
It's interesting, the story of some of these, especially in New Mexico I live in Roswell, New Mexico and I was just like really blown away by some of your stories.I love reading about the paranorm of Bigfoot and different things.Thank you
