I finished the first book, so even though the entire thing was a "dnf" for me, am writing this review as part of my 2021 promise to review all books I finish on either Goodreads, Amazon, or both. The story starts off like a paranormal "Bachelorette" told from the perspective of a man. It's really unusual to read a paranormal romance narrated exclusively from the hero's perspective, so I was intrigued. However, the unusual POV couldn't overcome the fact that the story lacked conflict. While I can suspend belief for a lot of things -- including instant attraction -- I do want something to explain the chemistry between the romantic couple & never got that. There was no external challenge to their relationship & no scenes really showed them connecting on a deeper emotional level. So without anything connecting the lovers together, I kept looking for a twist that never materialized -- first I was wondering, what if he doesn't win the contest, but decides to stay in Wimberly anyway? Then I fixated on what happens if they fall out of love, etc. Then the issue of the powerful wife/girlfriend & her "control" over him -- what if there was a real challenge to his freedom/masculinity that he needed to resolve or come to terms with? None of that happened. The one real conflict ("I don't believe in love") was overcome quite easily with a deus ex machina kind of intervention from the hero's mother. The story is a fine read if you are looking for low-stakes entertainment that doesn't have any real challenges & is pure wish-fulfillment (what if you all of a sudden got everything you could ever want). So even though it was a KU read (thus "free" for me), I had to give it 2 stars because I'm returning the rest unread & have decided this author isn't for me. I do recommend the story for someone looking for an adult fairy tale where only good things happen. Sometimes we need that kind of whipped cream in our lives -- especially these days :) It just isn't enough for me.
I loved these witches! The hi jinxs among the witches and their mates will have you glued to the book. The love and camaraderie among these ladies, their mates and their community will warm your hearts and restore your faith is the randomness of fate.
This is a series of stories about a coven of witches located in Wimberly, TX that was started by a witch and a highwayman who was running from the law in England. They emigrated to America, settled in the Hill Country of Texas, opened a hotel and a town grew up around it. The highwayman couldn't settle down so he went to the surrounding towns of Austin and San Antonio chasing adventures. He eventually became a Texas Ranger and took his breaks with his wife and daughters in Wimberly. Other witches were drawn to the coven in Wimberly and the town prospered and grew due to the "special gifts" of the witches. A Witches Council was formed to govern the coven and ensure the continuation of the witches line. The Council designed and executed a yearly contest to select mates for the young witches. This contest was a Invitation Only Weekend Retreat for young eligible bachelors selected by the Council to compete for the hands of 2 or more eligible witches. The bachelors were chaperoned by husbands of other witches in the town and mentored in the ways of the contest. At the end of the weekend, the witch selects her husband, a handfasting ceremony is performed and the rest of the bachelors are mind-wiped of the weekend (for the protection of the coven) and sent back to their lives. These 3 stories detail the HEAs of 3 witches, their fated mates and their trials to Forever Ever After.
I LOVED these stories: I couldn't put the book down!! Don't miss this opportunity for Sexy Magic!
This was a fun romp through a 3-book set. They were all amusing - and definitely hot if that matters to you - and I was completely won over by the time I read the last book. Anyone who can write a paranormal romance and weave in the environmental crisis that we are experiencing right now gets my vote. We do need to change the world, and the way we view the world. Go Victoria Danann for making that message a key part of your story, while keeping the story fun and not preachy. I truly hope it opens the eyes of your readers. Kudos.
The story was fun but when dealing with the majikal world please research. An important and insulting innuendo is referring to male witches as warlocks. Warlocks we’re individuals (men) who sold out their coven during the inquisition for promise of riches and position. Thus the word War Lock. This is the ultimate worst form of betrayal a witch (Wiccan) can do. Warlock is NOT synonymous to a male witch. Maybe add a small novella explaining how this happened that they turned good?
So glad I read these books again. I originally purchased them as individuals. Now in the box set so much easier to keep reading. This series is so addicting and enjoyable. Such a fun set of books. There is humor and a bit of mystery in each one. I was glued to the pages. Could not stop reading. Love the way they each came to a happily ever after. From a Forever Fan... Pam James.
It is a good story line. However I was really disappointed in the under developed characters. The characters were pretty shallow and the men seemed to have no purpose other than marrying the witch and having a perfect life. There was a lack of description about the witches and their powers and what they could use them for. It would be nice if there was a plot ,other than finding a wife, that would carry on through the series. Very disappointing.
The story relates to one of her other series but you don't have to hand read that to get into this one. All the stories in the trilogy were well told although I enjoyed the first one the most. I wish we could get more on Wednesday and Rally, seems like an explosion ready to go with those two.
Fated mates are called by beautiful young witches to a weekend like no other. Whoever wins gets a year to decide if he wants forever with his witch and anything his heart desires or to go home with no memory and his freedom.
Thoroughly enjoyed these books! The author has a talent for creating utopian-like communities and filling them with interesting inhabitants. She has a way of making you wish you could live there too! These are sweet, romantic tales with no evil beings or gore. A great read on a winter day.
I liked this series. I felt like I was right there with the characters. The first book was my favorite probably because of the whole Witch’s Ball… very cool!
Takes away from the fun of discovering the author's paranormal world. Also the characters aren't fully believable. Too physically perfect, and their histories have no character building struggles. Jyst
The Carter's were fun.. Fast reading. Good story line I would love to read the whole book Every 1 of them would be very Exciting? Can't wait for the new 1 to come in The witch is Very entertainin Tv hugG
The first book was very good, the 2nd seemed a bit less and the 3rd felt rushed. hard to want to read something you get the feeling the even the author lost interest in.
