This made me hate the NYT. Every piece written almost entirely by the white staff, every photo (that looks natural and not Instagrammy, thank god) that has ppl in it are of white ppl in play/leisure and poc at work/in service. In the Utah piece, national parks are called “designer” and overcrowded (impossible not to finish that in my head “w too many foreigners”) so it’s suggested to go to lesser-known/traveled destinations nearby promising fewer amenities (and fewer security/resources) but just as stunning views and outdoor adventure. Must be nice to have the whole world be your playground. I’m not white but I am white-adjacent and this is a nice guidebook on how to be/what it’s like/where to go if you’re white. And plan on taking my poc friends and family w me.
How is it that a supposedly serious book on "100 Dream Trips Around the World" -- with over 30 of them in Europe alone -- doesn't include a trip in Greece or Türkiye at all? It's a glaring omission that makes the editor seem biased or an idiot. Both countries, the birthplace of Western Civilization, with stunning natural beauty along with world-famous cuisine/culture and hospitality, are certainly dream trips for anyone with half a brain. Greece and Türkiye are probably on most people's list of dream trips. The editor and publisher should be embarrassed that they intentionally excluded them. We got this book as a gift; we would never buy it and it's probably going to be recycled or discarded.
I do not recommend, the book is so short on information and trips, it is like asking someone who is in a hurry to leave for trip suggestions so, they say whatever comes to mind first. Google is more useful at this point.
