The Houses are divided. A war is brewing between the clans. And our Elite has fallen. My House - the House of the Blue Flame - has been the center of envy and fear by the other dragon clans for centuries. My grandfather and his father and so forth, protected our people as both the strongest breed of dragon and as Elites. And now it's my turn. My name is Adaya, granddaughter of former Elite, Horace "The Devourer" and next in line to stand in his place. As my grandfather once said, "A nation cannot stand if the houses fall..." I'm here to protect and unite my people before each of our houses destroy each other. High Spirit has already marked me as the chosen Elite... But the question remains, will my people accept me? Or, will I face the same fate as others who came before me? House of the Blue Flame is a part of the Rise of the Elites Shared World Collection. Delizhia Jenkins is an Urban Fantasy and Paranormal Romance author who currently resides in Inglewood, CA. The love for writing began in elementary school when the passion for storytelling developed into a journey of writing. Over the years, she honed her craft for storytelling and the written word by excelling in subjects such English and English Literature; and by indulging in her favorite past time which involved reading the works of Anne Rice, K'Wan, Christopher Pike, Carl Weber, Omar Tyree and finally the late L.A. Banks. J.R. Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood also claimed her heart and author Karen Marie Moning joined the ranks of Miss Jenkins' all time favorite authors.
Miss Jenkins began publishing in 2013 with her first African American romance novel, Love at Last. After that, it was realized that her true magic rested in her writing about the ancient, the esoteric, and the supernatural. Moreover, since 2014, after her release of Nubia Rising: The Awakening, Miss Jenkins remained true to herself and her calling. And of course, being a true romantic at heart, it was important for her to fuse romance with the paranormal with a dash of "color." Miss Jenkins prides herself on writing for "the woman without the fairytale" and of course bringing magic and melanin to each book she writes.
Powerfully written story. I loved every minute of it. I was so locked into the story, plot and the characters who took my breath away. Awesome job D. Jenkins. You never fail to impress with your magical pen.
Happy New Year’s book buddies, I decided to bring in the new year with a good book. Before I dive into the details of this story, I wanted to share how Ironic it is that the girl on the cover looks similar to the D&D character I created. I follow a lot of authors and other book lovers on social media and found this book on my timeline. I had it saved for a while, but I decided New Year’s Eve was the day to read it. In this story, I visited the land of Draconia. The main character Adaya who is a blue flame which is one of many houses of magical dragon power is taking her place as the new Elite. Being an elite was her new destiny chosen by her late grandfather, but unlike her grandfather Adaya didn’t have confidence as the new leader of their realm. As I read on, I became engulfed in the main plot that rattled the Dragon Hierarchy.
I loved how Adaya saw a flawed system within her realm and used the tragic murders of the house’s elders as an opportunity to fix it. It wasn’t until Khalil shared the news of a dark entity wanting to harvest Adaya’s power that she realized how important it was to bring peace between the houses. What stuck with me throughout the story was the wise words Adaya’s grandfather told her. She often held back and shied away from her destiny because she felt she was unworthy. Horace told Adaya to never dim her light for others. I liked Adaya more once she realized that the fortune she had. When Khalil shared the suffering of the Shadow Dragon’s she could’ve turned her head and only cared for her own kind like other blue flames, but she is a compassionate leader. These actions of a blue flame were unheard of, so many characters were against her being Elite.
Adaya showed a realm full of people stuck in their own ways, what it means to be a leader. It doesn’t mean showing no mercy to show strength. It meant being available for everyone no matter what status they’ve held. I believe this is what made everyone respect her. The action and characters in this story kept me on the edge. I read vigorously hoping that Adaya would gain the courage to defeat the dark entity. I was glad that the author place small specks of romance in this story to lighten the intensity. I wanted Khalil for Adaya because he of his honesty and care for the women in his life. The ending was perfect, and I can’t wait to take a dive into the next book of this series. This was a great book to kick off the new year.

I really enjoyed hearing about all of the different dragon lines and where they say on the totem pole. So similar to the race systems in America today. Adaya brought new life and light to the dragons. She wasn’t tainted by the history, grievances, and prejudices of the many clans. She had a pure heart and genuinely wanted the best for everyone. Her biggest trial is getting all of the clans past their prejudices, privilege and societal norms to unite them all as one. Khalil was stuck between a rock and a hard place. Damned if he did or didn’t. He was indebted to Black and honestly he was never going to release him from his debt. He’d live under constant fear and threats of death for himself and his family, not to mention the forever shame of clan. All of this turmoil. The Elite is chosen by the High Spirit for a reason. Adaya is the chosen one.
Ms. Jenkins has done it again!! "House of the Blue Flame" is a fan-freaking-tastic page-turner you must read! This is part of the 'Rise of the Elites' shared world with other authors' stories, too! ... I love me some dragons, so if you love PNR, Fantasy, folklore, dystopian or science fiction genres, then run don't walk to get yours now! And any other book by this talented author!! ... I was glued to my seat not wanting to stop, so yes, I highly recommend this contemporary fiction must read & can't wait for more, but I will ;)
Book 2 in The Rise of the Elites series takes you on another roller-coaster ride with characters that have you cheering all the way through the book. The bad guy is as evil as they come and Ms Jenkins' description brings shivers to the soul. I couldn't put it down.
Form out of the Shadows comes light! This is my first read from this Author. Adaya and Khalil are not a couple. In fact he is lower cast dragon/assassin. She is for lack of a better phrase a princess. Thrust into a place of leadership Adaya must stop civil war and save the assassin’s sister. Can she do it? A Dora the Explorer would say Yes! She can.
I adored this story and would have given it a five star but by listening to it on my iPad I had to concentrate hard on who was talking because unlike on Audible there was no voice differentiation so everybody sounded the same. But any way great story. 2 down in the series, 5 to go.
Learning about the Dragon houses and the journey of their newest Elite was a page turner. The plot was perfect with suspense and twists that kept me reading from beginning to end. A great continuation of the Rise of the Elites series!
This is something new for me and I enjoyed Adaya journey, Towards the end of the story it repeats several times, which suggests editing issues. Other than that good book.
