On the Clock #3

Shift Change

Rate this book
Cash Nixon works the third shift at Billingsley-Davis. It's gritty, dirty, hands-on work but he loves it. He's good with his hands. Tonight, he's on his way in when he spots her. She's beautiful, but very out of place in her black dress and stiletto heels. Who is she, and why is she here?

Adriana Tucker is normally out the door at five on the dot but she stayed late tonight to finish up a project. She's finally on her way out when she sees him. He's the most handsome man she's ever seen, even in his dirty coveralls. Is he staring at me?

They both read the situation clearly: they're from two different worlds and it would never work. But what they don't know, yet, is that they have something in common: they both like to get dirty...

***This is Book 3 in the On the Clock series of erotic standalones. Can be read in any order.***

This! This was another great addition to the series. I was not expecting this to go in the direction that it went. The first two books were all about finding their HEA. Shift Change definitely takes a different approach. It follows two more characters at the company: Cash and Adriana. Adriana works in the marketing department or a department similar to marketing while Cash works 2nd or 3rd shift maintaining the company's fleet of cars. These two couldn't be more different; yet, they have a sexual chemistry that is undeniable. Shae Sanders uses them as characters to illustrate that it's possible to have great sexual chemistry with someone and it not turn into something. This often more times than not in real life. People feel like because their sexual compatibility is there then a relationship should follow and unfortunately that's not how it always works. I loved the realness and authenticity of both characters. They definitely have a strong chance of being my favorite couple in the series. I also enjoyed the subtle conversation that Sanders has about the way that big corporations impact communities. These companies usually come into economically disadvantaged communities promising new jobs and opportunities when they really mean to outsource their labor. As a result, they take away resources from these same communities disrupting the status quo. While this was an erotica novella, I’m glad that this was brought to light and discussed in a way that informs the reader but doesn’t bog down or take away from the story as a whole. I'm hoping that we get to see these two again as well as the previous characters in future books.

This series just gets better and better with each book. Shift Change is not a love story with a happy ending. The phrase when opposites attract was created for Adriana and Cash. These two were sexually compatible in every way but, they had absolutely nothing in common. Adriana is a bougie corporate chic and Cash is that dude from the hood who doesn't give AF. Outside of the bedroom, Cash doesn’t meet any of Adriana’s standards and he has no interest in trying to meet them. He’s very honest up front about who he is and what he’s not going to do. So, this book doesn’t end with a HEA for Cash and Adriana. It’s sad because they were perfect for one another. I would love to see a follow-up novel where Cash and Adriana finally get together and are able to make their relationship work because, they really were a great couple. Can we talk about those sex scenes! Clutches pearls because, whew chile! When I tell y’all the sex scenes were fire! 🔥🔥🔥🔥 The author got good and explicit with those scenes and I was all the way here for it! Shift Change was different from the first two books. It’s not your typical romance but, it was still a great read.

So I enjoyed this short story….Cash & Adriana had a real adult relationship…that basically just involved sex….the were from 2 different sides of town and 2 different styles of living….and what I enjoyed was the fact that neither would bend in who they were…so they simply reminded friends.

A sexy story with a lesson in life

I am not sure how this author manages to give us her signature sexy stories while giving us lessons in life, but she does it flawlessly and effortlessly. That's a talent all in itself. This story sheds light on how corporations target urban communities and instead of providing growth to the "locals", it starts the downward demise of the community. Gentrification 101 is what this author provided as the backdrop to the sexy pairing of Cash and Dre. Cash dripped BDE and I was all for it just like upper class undercover freak Adriana nicknamed Dre by Cash. I also enjoyed the pairing of Cash to Dre's father Mr. Turner. Powerful as it highlights the need for fathers or father figures in the lives of our Black men. The author packed all of this in few words!!! Whew! On to the next book in the series.

Let me tell y’all something. Shae proved every FWB situation does not have to end in happily ever after and we love to see it. Cash and Dre were well aware of what they wanted and didn’t want, communicated well, and despite getting caught up in one another, they were adult enough to know when to take a step back. Definitely my favorite in this series.

What a Shift

The story about two people from different sides of the track becoming a couple was a nice story. It felt believable and held my interest. It was super steamy too.

I read this in an afternoon and I loved it. At the beginning it says that this is no traditional romance and I’d add that this novella is really beyond genres: it uses sex as the catalyst, but the consequences the liason between the protagonists triggers go way beyond the traditional romance novella.

I love Sanders’ writing style and I wonder what goes on in her brain because this was so great. I am really enjoying the anxiety-free reading experience romance affords, so I was antsy about the open ending, but letting go and trusting the author was a great experience.

Dre and Cash

Another great novella. Cash and Dre did not grow into a romantic relationship but their meeting did change their paths in life. When you meet that someone that makes you want to be a better person you should keep them close to heart and I’m glad they remained friends. I’m hoping in a few years they can turn this into something spontaneous and become a cute little married family. 🙂

Shae Sanders has been my favorite new-to-me author this year. Her writing's so good I figured she can write anything and make me at the very least appreciate it, so as a result, I was only mildly nervous about heading into a book labelled "not traditional romance." While I shelved this under "contemporary romance," I would say it's technically-actually erotica, as it doesn't have a traditional HEA or HFN. It does, however, have an extremely positive relationship arc. It's also ridiculously dirty, ridiculously heartwarming, sometimes funny and sometimes sharp, and it contains a whole lot of thoughtful interaction between characters and worldbuilding.

🪴I absolutely loved this one!

🪴If you’re looking for a book with a full plot please know this is Black Erotica and the author even says that some of the events may not pan out how you’d like.

🪴Adriana works for an international corporation in Summerville, she’s a killer PR person and is loves living a life of a certain standard when it comes to her job, her clothes, lifestyle and especially her men. There is one guy who’s consistent, thoughtful and well-mannered but it’s boring to say the least. After working late one night she meets Cash, the fleet team leader and head of Automotive services for BillCo. & reformed hood nigga. When he’s not at work he’s taking care of his brothers and his mother who Iive in a neighborhood that has been slowing pushed back due to gentrification by the company they both work for. So much so that his mother has lost her daycare clientele and his little brother has gotten into the same mess that sent Cash to jail.

🪴What you can’t deny is the attraction that Cash and Adriana have, the heat is there and the chase was on from the beginning. Being from separate worlds never caused a problem for them because the two intertwine on levels that they never knew before, not to mention the sex has them losing their damn minds. Can I just mention that Shae Sanders writes wonderful erotica, it’s truly sexy and grown and I adored it.

🪴The banter was great, the mini-plot was great, the themes that Sanders brought up in just 93 e-pages flowed together well and I cannot wait to read more.

🪴TW : Gentrification, Gang Violence, graphic depictions of rough sex as it is classified as an erotica

FRIENDS WITH BENEFITS

Whew, that Cash knows how to put it down. Although Cash and Adriana didn't pursue more with them, their sexual chemistry was hot, steamy and off the charts. There was no holding back when these two got together. I don't think Cash was expecting Adriana to be as free as she was when it came to sex but that just made it even better. What I did like about these two was the understanding of their wants and the growth they had. Even though the outcome I was expecting to happen didn't, atleast a friendship was made. Definitely looking forward to seeing more from them in the future.

hmm well novellas aren’t really my favorite kinds of books bc well all you can really pack into 100pgs is smut and very little if any romantic chemistry, relationship development, etc. Dre and Cash were cool. I didn’t really like how casual Cash was about Dre and the way he treated Dre at times. I just prefer an obsessed hero sorry not sorry. they were freaks but had a pretty surface level relationship based all on sex which is not as much of an offense since this is intended to be a short sexy novella and not a full blown romance novel. The ending was dumb and begs the question of whether this is even a romance book bc a very obvious box wasn’t checked. but yeah, this was cool I guess.

4.5/5⭐️4.5/5🌶
- Nah this book was bogus asl and I lived for every single second of it!

- Adrianna is also a corporate baddie who is a little bougie. She is very comfortable in her skin though so I can't even blame her. Cash is a hood nigga not a street nigga. He's from the hood but he isn't dumb and actually is working towards a great future for himself. Cash really did it for me in this book cdfu! Love him downnnn!

- The sexual chemistry these two had was crazy like shae ate! I didn't care about they differences because they bond was so cute to read! I actually enjoyed they banter.

- Definitely recommend!

Could We?

Adriana and Cash were polar opposites, yet the same as well. I liked how hard Cash was working for his mom and brother. He just wanted a better life for them and I can only respect that. Adriana was corporate bougie yet with a heart and passion for the community. I'm glad that she used Cash as her inspiration to seek real change in the local community.

This didn't go as I thought, yet it ended just right. Let me continue on with this series because it is FIRE 🔥🔥🔥. So good. Great read.

When opposites attract it gets real spicy🥵 I’ve loved the first couple novellas in this series, but Dre and Cash kicked it up two notches!

Adriana is a bougie corporate baddie and Cash is hood inside and out with an idgaf attitude. Inside the bedroom, the two of them are perfect for each other, but outside of it, they have absolutely nothing in common. Cash doesn’t meet Dre’s standards and Dre is stuck up in Cash’s eyes.

The author was very detailed during the sex scenes🔥

This isn’t your typical HEA, but some good things happen in the end.

I think I am addicted to this series lol

Adriana x Cash

Take two fine mfs, who know they fine from opposite ends of the spectrum, put them in a room & watch the sexual chemistry ooze. These were two nasty individuals & I gobbled, swallowed, ate this whole installment up. Both of them were truly outspoken & standing on who they were. Cash wasn't trying to change & Adriana wasn't trying to make him. She was here strictly for the D & Cash didn't mind slanging it her way every chance he got. I loved that they didn't get together at the end simply because every good sexual experience doesn't have to equate to a relationship. I really hope we get to catch up with these two because I couldn't get enough.

Cash in all resistance 🥰

I can honestly say I was sleeping on Ms. Sanders and her skills but Cash is that dude and the moment I started reading his story I knew this novella would be different and she did not disappoint. I feel Cash is every single woman’s dream and if you luck up and meet you one hold on for the ride and enjoy but whatever you do don’t sell your self short he is definitely a forever kind of love! Great story!

Great no strings attached novella

I could feel Cash and Dre’s chemistry jump off the page - oddly I felt the non-sexual as much as the sexual. Loved how they positively impacted each other outside the bedroom and absolutely loved the plot twist of Cash getting close with Melvin Turner - my only beef is I wanted them to be together for real but we can always get what we want! Another gem in a bomb series!

So good, I didn’t want it to end!

😢 Like for real, that’s the end? I mean, I know this was a short, but like my feelings are kinda hurt. The chemistry between Dre and Cash sparkles and then ignites, then burns to the freaking ground!! This story was masterfully crafted by a true writer. So good, I have no words.. just read it, you won’t be disappointed!! I want more.. just saying

I’m a sucker for HEA but this one was done just right even though they didn’t end up together Adriana and Cash are opposites and aware of it. Not gonna lie I loved the nickname Dre. They have a FB dynamic Cash doesn’t meet Adriana standards and I love that he dgaf it just goes with his character. Scenes were fire 🔥🔥and descriptive Ms. Sanders you did that. Very different relationship from the previous On the clock novellas but they were mature and they respected and learned from each other

Just when I thought they couldn't get any sexier, here comes Cash! Damn! He and Adriana (Dre) were polar opposites, but were burning up the sheets honey!! 🔥 I loved them together, and I hope that we can see again in a full length story. I enjoyed how although they were different, they were able to bring out some good in the other. Great read! 👍👍👍

Truly amazing read!!!

Call me MS. Dre if you nasty because the steam and raw passion exuded between Cash and Dre was chart topping. You almost need a cold shower. I loved that both of them found personal growth throughout the book and that was heartwarming I would love to play catch up with them. Definitely loving this series thus far

Short, sweet and to the point!

Man, this on the clock series is something else. Cash and Adriana came from different ends of the spectrum. Besides the hot, steamy romance that they shared brought out the good in both of them. Although their relationship did not last, it definitely made them better people. I’m absolutely loving this series.

It Brought Up Nostalgia

Cash and Dre remind me of who I was and who I ran with when I was in my corporate twenties. It’s not acknowledged by larger society, or romance tropes, that class differences happen in intraracial relationships too… we have a spectrum of experience to draw from and also misunderstand as Black people.

Man, the ending is BS

**SPOILER ALERT ** I absolutely hate the way this book ends. The chemistry between the two is off the chain! Literally unheard of. Then you don’t even put them together for a HEA? WTF??? Who does that? I feel like I wasted my time reading the book if they’re not going to end up together. What was the point? Man, my disappointment is real!!!

I have this 5 stars even though I was disappointed

Ok, I have l had to be fair to the story. Let me first say that the warning at the beginning of the book did let me know what to expect, but the whole book I was still holding out hope for Cash and Dre. I'm a romantic that way. Overall the book was still good.

This was a read!

I loved that it didn’t end how I expected it too. I also enjoyed the serious story alongside the erotic story the author was telling. Book #3 is definitely very explicit.
