When a college sweetheart used Ginny Cline's dreams for his own glory, he stole her joy of composing music and her trust in men. Years later, encouraged by prayer and a chance to help the local museum, she dares to share her talents again. Unfortunately a financial backer forces her to place her music and trust into the hands of another man. Theater professor Scott Hallmark's summer camp benefactor coerces him into becoming the director of Ginny's musical. The last thing he needs is another woman who uses him to get what they want, especially an amateur who has no idea what they are doing. As Ginny's interest in Scott grows, her confusion arises over Honey, a member of Scott's praise band. Mix in a couple of dogs and quirky cast members for fun and frustration as the couple work together to discover that forgiveness and trust produce perfect harmony.

It's the layers within the plot that kept me turning the pages of "On Cue." What woman could resist an attractive leading man - one who has a deep faith and shares her love of music? Ginny is attracted to Scott, but she has been betrayed by another man she loved, one who also shared her passion for music.

From Jezebel, a dog with absolutely no self-control to Ginny, Scott and a host of interesting friends, each character is carefully drawn. The elusive "Honey" in Scott's life is infuriating and readers will wonder how Ginny will ever compete with the perfect invisible woman.

Ginny's relationship with the children she teaches, the historical musical she has created and the unexpected return of a character from her past provide plenty of plot surprises. This Christian romance told with tension and touches of humor will draw the reader in from the beginning. While elements of faith are woven throughout, even the casual reader will find characters to love and dislike, obstacles that seem insurmountable and a moment where life and art come together in a very satisfying ending.

This book will appeal to all readers who love a good romance with memorable characters embedded in a plot that keeps them wondering what will happen next.

Romance with drama and dogs. If you like those elements, you’ll be sure to like On Cue, by Bettie Boswell. In the mood for a light humorous read? It’s perfect. Do you love dogs? Even better. Because dogs are on every page.

My thanks to the publisher, Mt Zion Ridge Press, for sending me a copy in order to write a review. I read it on Glose–easy to download onto and read from.

No hair-raising suspense here, which is fine by me. In my life there’s usually enough going on to set my nerves on edge, so it’s nice to read something where things mostly go right, except for a few humorous incidents.

The main characters are homey, hard-working, and likeable–both teachers. The tension between them carries throughout the novel. Secondary characters root for them. A dark cloud looms with the antagonist, but I won’t spoil it for you by telling how that goes.

I learned quite a bit about putting on a large-scale musical drama–all the work, funding, talents, and side-line supporters that are necessary. The drama is about the historical underground railway, with a theme of redemption that also applies on other levels to spiritual redemption and acts of present-day redemption.

The author draws from her own life experience as a dog-loving teacher involved in drama productions.

I enjoyed Bettie Boswell’s debut story about two talented music lovers. Ginny spent a year-and-a-half pouring herself into writing a musical about the Underground Railroad, which she’d love to see performed. Professor Scott Hallmark is pressed into becoming the director. She’s excited about the play, but not the Professor. And she’s not ready to open her heart, especially when Scott keeps talking about Honey. On Cue is a delightful story about two people who want the same thing, but have to trust their hearts to find it. The strong Christian thread and the delightful secondary characters make this a pleasant read. If you enjoy sweet romance, you’ll want to read On Cue. I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

If you are looking for something heartwarming, then this book provides a perfectly satisfying cozy read. This is not an ordinary romance. It’s a romance of substance, with strong characters of faith, and a great story. I have not read such a charming story in a long time- with the warmth of the characters, the spirit of the story and the wonderful plot -all are perfect ingredients for a delightful read.

Do you like heartwarming stories with happy endings? Then On Cue is for you. Music, humor, and an out-of-control dog make this an enjoyable read. The big question is, "Who is Honey?" The story will keep you guessing!

Great book. I think the only thing that would make it more enjoyable was if it were a little longer.
