Rate this book

This is a gorgeous book with full page illustrations to linger over. Five mice hear music and discover it’s a group of frogs down by the pond. Unfortunately they’re turned away (a frogs-only concert), and cannot finish listening to the beautiful music. The mice shrug their shoulders and return home, get excited about making their own music. They get to work, using “found” tools and equipment, and create their own instruments. The story shows the delight when everyone learns to work together, and learns to share. “Music is for everyone!”

The Five Nice Mice in Concert "in concert" e

Another beautifully illustrated children's story. There are illustrations I don't particularly care for, but this was not an example of them. The story is simple, brave, and creative. My two-year old picked this off the shelves because of the size of the book. I'm glad she did. I loved reading it to her and will be reading it to my other children today as well.

A 4-5 year old child’s phonological awareness is deepened when a child listens to stories with rhymes. Five Nice Mice is appropriate for a 4-5 year old child because it has rhyming text which supports the phonological awareness skill for emerging readers. The child’s practice of talking during a shared reading with a caregiver works in supporting vocabulary and comprehension.

My kids got this book from the Dolly Parton Imagination Library where they get a free book each month. I loved the pictures in this book and the theme that working together even when people are different has better outcomes.

This is a sweet tale about harmony and acceptance, especially among those from different backgrounds. The story is entertaining and the illustrations are colorful and complement the story nicely. We really enjoyed reading this book together.

My 4-year-old picked this book out and I really enjoyed it. Lovely illustrations, and a nice story about friendship across cultures. I think I'll look for copies of this one to use in drama class. Lots of potential with the different animals, instruments, etc.

I expected this to be a lot more than it was. The pictures were just ok, the story was generic and the prose wasn't especially unique. Cute book but not my favorite.

I liked this book for the pictures and the story, but it's too advanced for my two year old to understand.

Five nice mice are sitting outside when they hear music. They follow the sounds and discover frogs making music--for frogs only. So they decide to have a concert of their own. When some frogs show up they are more inclusive and invite the frogs to join them.
