After the unexpected death of the woman who raised her, Cherice Bay arrives in Cascade Falls to find answers to her own parentage. Inexplicable roadblocks arise at every turn, and her search for information provides more questions than answers. When she meets the charismatic and influential Nataniele Orso, he seems eager to help, and she’s clearly falling for him in the process.
For Nate, tradition dictates his motives, and he knows Cherry will make the perfect addition to the family. She’s hot, naïve, and clearly into him. He just needs to play the perfect boyfriend while hiding his illegal businesses and his real intent. As long as his father stops getting in the way, he’s sure to get a ring on her finger soon.
As they unravel an increasingly complex mystery, neither is prepared for what is revealed.

I hadn't read anything by Shay Savage for quite some time so when I saw this doing the rounds I was excited to see what she'd bring me, and true to form she gave me such an enjoyable suspense filled ride, once I'd started I couldn't put it down, she'd pulled me in so effortlessly.
I don't want to go into too much of the storyline as I don't want to wreck it for readers after me, but go in blind, and I hope you'll end up enjoying it like I did.
Cherry Bay's aunt had recently passed away, leaving her alone in the world with an antique shop to run and questions she's seeking answers to, which leads her to Cascade Falls , nothing could've prepared her for this small township though, a township that's so divided down the middle (East & West), that no one dares cross that line.
Nate Orso's family runs the East side and their bitter rivals, the Ramsay's reside on the West, a feud that goes centuries back making them despise each other with a passion. Both families are into the realestate business amongst other things. For the most part they stick to their side of town.
Cherry meets Nate at his club The Big O when he saves her from a disastrous first date and they kind of clicked from that point onwards.
Nate's not all that he appears to be, he's a sheep in wolfs clothing and he's not above getting what he wants deceitfully, and he's set his sights on Cherry, he's just got to play his cards right and strike at the right time.
Wow! This was one twisty story and I mean TWISTY! Each time I settled in with an idea of where this was headed, this author would bring it to a screeching halt and direct me another way. I loved it!
Cherry is just trying to find the truth about her parentage which leads her to an interesting town in Ohio. I could feel her loneliness and adored her quirky habit of talking to her plant. I’m not sure what it was about her that I liked so much or found to be unique, but her character really snagged me and kept me engaged. I cared what had happened to her, what was currently happening to her and where she was going to land in the future.
As the head of a mobster family, I had expectations for the hero, Nate. However, this is a Shay Savage creation and her characters often take me by surprise in the way they exceed what I expected. Nate not only exceeded them, he made me fall completely in love with him along the way. As different levels of his personality were revealed, I came to love him more and more. Such a beautifully complex hero who was completely dedicated to his family and more so the woman he had fallen in love with.
This is a hefty book in page count and yet I could not put it down. I read it straight through and not once did it bog down or become repetitive. I actually hated to see it end. There are some great little surprises along the way as well if you’ve read other books by this author. The chemistry between this hero and heroine was very realistic but doesn’t consume the story. This is also filled with so many other characters that wormed their way into my heart and added so much more to the story.
Overall, this was an amazing read that goes far beyond what your typical mafia romance takes you.
Boring. Like WAY boring. I almost DNFed several times, and rating this a three star is just me being nice. There was also zero chemistry between the MCs, and I'm not sure why they love each other at all. It was also very insta love. They literally only had one face to face interaction in the first 30% of the book. Then the rest of the book I felt like they were hardly together too. Their dialogue was also super formal and unrealistic, and again, just super boring. The end was also very anticlimactic and everything was tied up very loosely, and in a way that didn't make sense why everything was dragged out for so long.
I liked the hero at certain times, and I liked the mental illness aspect to him at first. It gave him more depth and I was hoping it would be a bigger part of the story, but nope. It was all brushed under the rug in like a couple of pages. Other than that, he was also very beta and weak. Then we have the heroine who was actually more tough than the hero, but she was just pure annoying and weird. All she did was talk to herself and her plants which just got on my nerves. Her handling of the pregnancy and not telling the hero right away also made me hate her a little too.
The only thing I liked about this book was all the mentions of Sebastian Stark from the Surviving Raine series. The people in this book run a forgery business, and were the people that Bastian went to when making a new life for himself. We also got some Evan Arden mentions (does anyone really care about him tho?), and Landon Stark made an appearance. There are also mentions of what had happened in Bastian's Storm with the tournament, and also of more of the backstory of those guys on the boat that had tried to take Raine. They were hiding from authorities and this hero's family, because they had kidnapped and raped this hero's sister, but when they went to look for them, they had disappeared and only their boat was left, but we know it was because Bastian had killed them all. So I found that all pretty interesting.
Overall, boring.
Safety:
Both have been celibate for at least a year I think
No OW/OM drama
No virgins
No cheating
No other partners after meeting

This book had many twist and turns but it is damn long. I think I was almost bored for the first 50% of the book but the last 50% was amazing. Full of twist and turns.
One major problem with the book is that in the beginning of every chapter there’s no indication or mention of whose POV it is. I got confused multiple times cause this book have both protagonists POV but there was no mentioning of the changing in chapters.
The whole birth confusing was fun and shocking. Many twist and turns. I would say if the first half wasn’t that lengthy it would have been a really good book for me.
Omg this book was insane, in a good way. The twist was crazy good and kept me guessing. I really loved reading Cherry & Nate’s story. I was absolutely completely hooked from page one. Another amazing read that if you love a good mafia read then you must one click this book.
I voluntarily reviewed this Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
It's been awhile since I have read this author. This one caught me at the synopsis. A bit of Mafia, a bit of suspense and a whole lot of mystery. I admit, it took me a bit to figure out the story. At one point, I wasn't sure if I should keep going. But by about 35% in, everything started to click.
This story is about Cherry and Nate. Cherry is looking for the clues about who her family may be. Nate has just taken over as head of his Family business. Their stories seem to be chance until all the twisty turny parts are revealed. I know this author is never going to give it to us straight. You just have to hang on for the journey.
I loved how sweet Nate was with Cherry. I loved watching hi fall for her even when he didn't think that was what he needed. The secondary characters are all great. Cherry's neighbor Jessie was a bit quirky. I felt like she had a story, we just never got there with her. I was kept guessing about how this story would end right up until the end.
My only issue was in the writing in dual POV. I haven't seen it this way before, so maybe it is a thing. I was confused when there was 2-3 chapters from Cherry's POV and then the next chapter being Nate but the story went bake to action that happened 3 chapters ago but now from Nate's POV. Even more odd is that the second half of the book doesn't read that way. It just goes to alternating POV. I think this is what caused the stumble for me in the beginning.
Overall, really interesting story. The author drops some easter eggs for characters from other books she has written. I am interested enough in the secondary characters to want more from her in this small town Ohio world.
*Complimentary copy provided for an honest review.
Voluntarily reviewing an ARC of this. All opinions are objective and my own.
Shay Savage writing another mafia book is my dreams come true. After my love of Deklan, I was very excited for this one.
I went back on forth on my love with this one. I suppose I wish there was an air of intensity, like there is in Deklan. At the same time, I really appreciate the sweetness this mafia story had adopted; it was very refreshing.
Cherry moves to Cascade Falls to find her real family. Once she begins settling into the town, she meets Nate, head of the Orso family and mafia/crime boss. He does the job, but what makes Nate really stand above other mafia characters is that he doesn’t truly want the job. He’s going along with it to appease his father. Nate is doubly interesting, for the author incorporates mental health into his character in a creative, fun, and interesting way. Cherry was a very sweet character. She did not stand out for me, but also didn’t bore me in any way. The romance was fairly quick, but it did work for the story and the characters. They have a sweet romance that Shay still manages to melt pages with.
Cherry is in town looking for answers on her real family. This search opens a world of mysteries that Shay manages to keep interesting and fresh. Even when answers are found, there are more to be discovered….
Another great read from this author and I look forward to what is next
This was a mixed bag for me. I liked the idea of the story, new girl moves to a town divided into east and west side and doesn't really understand why or what is happening. But I felt the writing at the start from the Hero's POV was odd, some of the things he does bizarre. Also it's dual POV but at one point I was just confused as the chapter started changing POV but it went quite a way back to see things from a different perspective.
I was okay with it and quite enjoying it but he author has written twists and turns and I got to the point about the father and felt after that it for a bit ridiculous.
No intimate scenes other than the Hero and heroine. No cheating or interest in anyone else. A non man-whore Hero. Neither virgins but it's been a while for both of them.
Cherry's aunt dies leaving her with an antique shop and questions about her family. She ends up in a small town called Cascade Falls looking for answers that leave more questions for her. She meets Nate Orso when a date goes bad at his bar. Nate is the head of the Orso family. He is an opportunist that will get what he wants anyway he can and hold onto it. He has decided Cherry will make the perfect wife and addition to the family. Across town is a rival family named the Ramsey's. No one crosses into the opposite side of town without being in danger. Nate and Cherry will find out shocking news that neither of them could be prepared to handle. A suspenseful, sexy story with all kinds of twists and turns.
I received a copy of this book and am leaving a review.
I love the stories that this author comes up with. Your pretty much guaranteed a great read with some really amazing characters. In this one a small town girl visits her birthplace to find out her family.
What did I like? With a mafia flair, and a town feud... Cherry finds herself looking for her real family. Every where Cherry goes is thwarted by the feud that separates the town from two powerful families. She meets Nate who is the head of the Orso family, and sparks fly. This was totally different from the Evan Arden Series, so I was bit sad even though a few of the characters still appear in this book.
Would I buy or recommend? I love this author because her stories are so long and fleshed out. You just know your getting your moneys worth. A great read and I would love a copy. Four stars!
I voluntarily read a complimentary copy and voluntarily left my opinion.
I'm a sucker for a good mafia romance, and this is a good mafia romance!! The chemistry between sweet Cherry and sexy Nate is off the charts. And just when I thought I figured it all out, there was a huge twist! Then I thought I figured it out again, but nope. She got me again!! I finished this one late at night after my bedtime because I had to see what happened!
There are lots of twists and turns in this well written, small town mafia romance with the H/h both aged 25. It has a slow burn romance with some steamy scenes, lots of angst, drama and a couple of uncomfortable murder scenes. It's nowhere near as violent as some stories however. There's a reference to the 'Games' (ref-Evan Arden😍). I'm a fan of Ms Savage's books and this is another keeper. I liked both Cherry and Nate and their story kept me interested. 4.5 stars. 🙂
I was excited to see another book from Shay, I really enjoy everything she writes. She makes her books so easy to read and knows how to keep the reader interested. Birthright, just like her other books, was no different.
Shay has a habit of leading a reader to a false sense of security and then all of a sudden hits you with something totally unexpected. Birthright is full of twists and turns that you don’t see coming and that’s what makes the story such an interesting read.
Cherry and Nate meet after she ends up in his town looking for information of her birth parents. Their chemistry is great and very believable. It may come across as a quick romance but I thought it flowed well with the story and I enjoyed it very much. I really liked Cherry. I liked her quirkiness, she was funny and sweet too. I found Nate quite intriguing, I couldn’t quite put my finger on it with him but I certainly enjoyed the romance between Cherry and himself.
I would definitely recommend Birthright and I am looking forward to reading more from Shay Savage in the future.
BIRTHRIGHT is a Mafia Romance that is full of twist and turns with suspense, mystery, and lots of secrets. Just when I thought I had it figured out, it would turn in a different direction. Birthright is a full-length standalone novel, that is narrated from different character's points of view. If you want a good Mafia Mystery and Romance Novel than this book is for you!
Cherry Bay is a lonely lost soul after losing her beloved Aunt Ginny who had raised her since birth. Aunt Ginny and Cherry were each others only family. They lived together in a house located in a small town named Accident, Maryland. Four months had gone by since her Aunt Ginny had passed, leaving her alone in the world. While going through her Aunt's papers, she found her adoption papers and that she had been born in Cascade Falls, Ohio. Cherry decided she would move there and start searching for whom her actual birth parents where, and any other family.
What little she uncovered about her past, left her with more questions than answers. Also, the most important thing she did learn about living in Cascade Falls was rather ominous. For starters, she was settled in an apartment on the east side. She would learn that was the preferable place to live. You did not crossover to the west side, her friendly new neighbor had warned her. The Westsiders were not to be trusted. It boiled down to east being good and west being bad without any specifics as to why. Cherry hit nothing but dead ends in search of her parents, until she was noticed by none other then Nataniele (Nate) Orso.
Nate and his family were considered the power players of the east side of Cascade Falls. The Orso family owned most of the businesses and had control over everything that was in their jurisdiction. He also was 'filthy' rich. Nate offered to help Cherry in her search to find her birth parents, he became her hero. She only knew Nate was handsome and kind to her. She was the beautiful and perfect woman for Nate in her sweet, nice, and naïve ways. She knew nothing of the real life that awaited her if she joined his family. Nate knew from the first time he saw her that she was the beginning of his future. He wanted Cherry to be a part of his life and a part of his family for now and forever. There are too many hidden secrets that need to be uncovered and revealed before there can be any amazing future or a happy ending.
Well, Shay Savage just blew my mind with this one, Cherry and Nate's story was a black hole, it took me in and didn't let me go until I finished it. Brilliant plotline, characters you can't do anything but fall in love with, angst, and mafia s just the cherry on top, one I like very much. I love the way the characters are portrayed and how they developed thought the book, the way it's written makes you read it in one seat even though is longer than usual, you just keep on going until the last page. This is the type of book I wish it was on audiobook to experience it all over again.
Just what I needed after reading a few mystery novels, a Savage mafia book. Definitely a naughty romance with an edge. Cherry is searching for her birth parents so she moves to the city she knows they were from. Alone in the city she seeks out friends and happens to meet Nate Orso. He’s the sexy mafia type and completely opposite of Cherry’s naïveté. Nate is intense and his family is overwhelming in a way that everyone is in everyone else’s business. It’s definitely something Cherry is craving. This story seems to be flowing like any other romance until you’re hit with a revelation like nothing before. Savage is the queen of twists and surprises. As a fan, I was thrilled to read references to the Arden series and Stark - no spoilers but fun Easter eggs. My advanced copy was sent by the author, however my review was provided voluntarily.
I got whiplash from all the twists and turns. I won't say much about the plot because I don't want to spoil anything. But, I liked Nate and Cherry together. I thought she was very sweet and patient. Nate was a sweet hero despite him being a leader of a crime family. I like how Shay Savage didn't make this about a huge crime family, but instead focused on a small town family doing work for the other larger families.
If you have read Surviving Raine, Bastian's Storm, and Arden's books, then you will enjoy the Easter eggs thrown in this story. This story takes place after Bastian's Storm, but these do not have to be read in order.
Overall, an interesting mafia family story. A sweet and mildly spicy love story.
I was bored. I found myself flipping pages to get to the end. Of course, the drama and explanations are so soap opera. SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER
s p o i le r s sss .......................................................Heroine is trying to find her family so hero (mafia boss leader) helps her. They then think they are siblings (brother and sister) and she is pregnant with his baby. But wait! He was secretly adopted from a rival mafia family as a peace treaty requirement, so they are not related. So he steps down as head of the mafia family because he's adopted and they go off and live by themselves.
With any book by Shay Savage, you should throw all your expectations out the window. What you expect to happen is certainly what will not. And that is what I absolutely love about “Birthright”.
We are gently walked into a budding romance between Cherice Bay and Nataniele Orso. Handsome, mysterious stranger saves woman from the date from hell. Yes, he’s a mafia prince with a wild family filled with responsibility, loyalty issues, and death. But what mafia prince doesn’t. Cherry is just the thing Nate needs to find peace and stability. Kind as she may be, she tells him the truths the Boss needs to hear.
But the other shoe drops. Then another and another! And I kindly reminded that I need my big girl pants and my seatbelt for this Savage ride! Shay does not disappoint with our couple going from 0 to 100 in not only in their feelings for each other, but the plot twists as well. I must have gasped 7000 times while reading this. Page turner is an understatement. And steamy to boot! *fans self*
My favorite thing about a book are the supporting characters. I have fallen in love with all of them and if Three’s is looking for a new love interest, I volunteer! I was hooked the entire book and could not put it down. Well written, suspenseful, and characters that leave a smile on my face when I think of them. This book is going on my reread list!
This book was such a massive disappointment. I normally love books by this author and give them five stars so was really excited to read this especially since it was about organised crime, but I was very quickly let down.
First it too me a long time to get into the book because the heroine pov was a chore to get through. She kept talking to her plant and talking out loud to herself and ended every text with lol and was just so dull. Later on in the book she's kind of dumb and I was just wishing she would put two and two together. Things start to get better when the MCs meet and we get the hero pov but that doesn't last long and he is pretty dull too. The "romance" was just weak and tainted because you know the hero is manipulating the heroine so she would fall in love with him and marry him all because of some stupid family curse. I gave up when I realised I genuinely don't care about any of these characters and I think the heroine should have blocked the hero's number and moved on.
I am going to be so tired when my alarm goes off in 4 hours...I should really know better than to start a Shay Savage book a couple hours before my normal bedtime. This one was full of twists and turns and kept me glued to the pages right up to the end. This author has a knack for pulling the reader in right away. I knew at chapter 2 that I wasn't going to get any sleep. So worth it though. And love hearing about characters from her other books I have read. This one was very good!
She's been raised by her aunt but comes to Cascade Falls to find out who her family is. He's involved in a long standing feud between two rival mafia type families who have split town down main street. He has to take over family when his older brother dies but is haunted by his dead (unrealized to him) father and falls in love with her. Finds out she may his sister but actually they were switched at birth.

Leaving this unrated. This book could’ve been so much better if it had been edited better. In parts I felt like I’d read the same chapter so I was back and forth.
I thought the dialogue was awful too and didn’t really warm to any of the characters.
Very disappointing overall. Expected so much more as I love mafia.
