Imma start this out by saying that I will try to be as polite as I can in this review....but full disclosure? I've never read a book that p***ed me off so monumentally. I couldn't even finish it and I am absolutely infuriated.

Also full disclosure, this is not a romance, this a peek into what an abusive relationship with a controlling a**hole looks like. If you're into that, stop here because down below I'll get into spoilers. But if you're a normal person who is intrigued by this book but wants to know why they shouldn't read it, continue.

First off, let's start with the characters. Literally every single one of them(yes, even the side and minor characters) fall into 3 catagories: a**hole, abusive a**hole, or moron. The main female protagonist is a moron, the main male protagonist is an abusive a**hole. That being said though I can't state my opinion and my reasons without getting into details from the story, so here we go.

The story is going nowhere it's dull boring not even good anymore. The plot is going nowhere spider is boring as a character i like the simple girl thing from emma. But other than that she is not redeeming. The main plot the cult thing dead in the water. It drug on and on it was super boring sorry the sex was better in fifty shades. Would have been a better book of it was not stuck in a rut.

I thought the first book knocked me for a loop, but then I read this, and WOW!

I don't know if I want to kill Spider or loss him. Right now, I'm leaning toward kill, but I love having that feeling.

I need the next one 5 minutes ago.

The darkness...

Make no mistake Spider and Emma's story is DARK but it's also so good. Not just the darkness but how the 2 characters are developing. Both are victims of their upbringing which couldn't be more different than finding out you're tied to an alien. Spider is dark not just because of the MC but because of his father. He truly has a deep distrust of women and in his mind Emma is just all of the others, a play thing to be used that can hurt you. What he refuses to acknowledge is that he loves her. Then there's Emma, a product of a religious cult, that is so naive it's almost painful. In this book she's starting to grow a spine which was nice to see. Don't get me wrong - my heart breaks for her. She went from a cult to an MC and every time it seems like she might make a place with them it goes awry. I hope these 2 get it together and that Spider ends up having to beg her forgiveness somehow. Emma deserves nothing less and so much more. I would also like to unravel the mystery of Adamson and how he's tied to Emma.

This was a good read overall and well written. Please pay attention to the trigger warnings. Again this story is dark but if you like your dark loves, where there isn't a knight in shining armor and the lead is possessive AF then this book is for you.

Everything is wrong with this book

Poor plot development, characters are shallow and the theme is lacking in consistency. The only redeeming person is little boy Ben whose life is going to be shell because he is growing up in a chess pool of horrible men. These bikers are just how I imagine them to be: misogynistic, violent, selfish and without honor. The first book was tolerable but this book was the same of the first..same ole lines, same arguments about why Spider likes to inflict pain on an innocent girl. Don't get me started on Emma..she is an idiot for putting up with Spider...she goes back and forth does she love him or hate him? Spider only wants her around to torture her..he lives to cause her pain and humiliation and for someone who escapes from an abusive cult, she turns into a coward and thinks she can change Spider. I hate everyone in this story. Plan not to read book 3.

I don't have a rating for this one due to mixed feelings. I'm enjoying this series in general if I consider it something other than a romance- perhaps thriller/suspense? But I don't love it as a romance due to the fact that I just hate Spider.

The heroine tells him she hates him. She tells him he's a low life piece of $hit. And frankly, I agree. It would take some impressive and prolonged groveling at this point for him to redeem himself, and I just don't see that happening.

He hurts Emma both physically (my kryptonite) and emotionally. He delights in causing her pain, and enjoying the lasting effects of his hurting her (bruises, cuts, etc.). He publically shames and demeans her, parading her around like a slave on multiple occasions. He makes it clear that he does not hold her in any kind of regard when he threatens to hold her down and take her in a common area of the club with everyone around. When he forces a sexual act on her in front of his brothers. When he is amused that a brother was watching them have sex without her knowledge.

I am repulsed by Spider's treatment of Emma, and I truly hope she escapes him. Spider deserves to lose his toy and remain alone.

Enough venting about Spider. I will continue on to book three because I'm curious about the mysteries that have yet to be solved. Truly I'd love it if the third book threw the romance rules out the window and had Spider end up alone and miserable; possibly celibate/impotent as well. For extra flare Emma could end up with one of the other brothers who would treasure her forever right under Spider's nose. But alas, the rules of dark romance dictate that poor Emma will end up with Spider. Much to my chagrin.

So spider treated Emma worse then ever in this book snd I keep waiting and waiting for something to change . People say keep reading . I hate Spider and can’t see him being redeemable but I’m this far in so I plan to read the last book . The overall storyline is very intriguing.

Finished it. Skimmed to the end. Regret everything.

If I could give this a rating it'd be -50 Stars TBH.

Ugh. So I really didn't like this one. Compared to the first one it just went to utter shit. The writing was fine and the plot pacing was also fine. It was the damn MCs that ruined it for me.

Emma was cool for me in the first book but in the second I got annoyed. Real fucking annoyed. She repeatedly goes on and on in her thoughts about how she hates him and he's a monster when he does horrible shit to her (which is often).  Bemoans the "almost" feelings she was having for him, a man who isn't the sweeter more humanized man she got a week with before he turned on her AGAIN at the end of the first book. Don't know if it was her age, naivety or how she was raised but man that repeated crap got old real quick. How she could develop feelings for him after how he repeatedly treated her is beyond me. I can only chalk it up to Stockholm Syndrome. And it became very ridiculous having to listen to her REPEATEDLY whine about how this new punishment/torture session "was the last straw" and broke her wittle naïve heart. Guess what? IT WAS NEVER THE LAST STRAW. It just kept recycling itself.

"I hate him!" "I'm going to kill him" "How do I fit in here?" "How do I fix him?" "I'm falling in love with him" "I can't believe he did this!" "The man I was falling for is gone"

That last thought was repeated OVER AND OVER AND OVER. How many times did you have to have it literally hammered into your DUMB HEAD that this guy was a utter PIECE OF SHIT and he was raping you and holding you captive? MY GOD.

And Spider? Hell no. That man was a sick fuck! For a forty year old dude he didn't seem to have a clue about how to handle shit or how to understand his BIG SCARY MAN FEELINGS. He gave me friggin whiplash with how he treated Emma. Make up your mind! You want her or you want to kill her. His need to physically hurt her was awful to read and to have to read how turned on it made him... but honestly silly Emma letting her body betray her was the worst part.

Classic betraying body syndrome + no sexual experience + sheltered religious upbringing = Prime pickins' for Spider. Spider who fucked her body repeatedly as much as her mind. He was an absolute MONSTER. The amount of shit he did to her just boggled my mind and we're just meant to accept she gets turned on each time even when he literally frightens the hell out of her? PASS. It was not romantic or sexy. AT ALL. With her age and her upbringing and lack of experience it honestly felt like he had conditioned her to enjoy his depraved sexual needs because this girl did NOT know any better.

And turthfully by 30% in as he did in the first book Spider continues threatening to kill her. JUST DO IT ALREADY! And Emma too! Every time he set up to punish her she'd plead and beg and then threaten to kill him. Puhlease little girl we all know that ain't happening so why bother wasting your breath? Everytime she fought back Spider just swats her down like a pesky fly. It was BORING and annoying that the author wrote such a pathetic female character. Not to mention the endless repetition. All Emma did was scream at him when he did bad shit to her. That's it!

"I'll kill you!" she'd scream EVERY TIME... Yeah how you gonna do that dumbass?

And seriously who is THAT paranoid? Spider and his entire MC especially their President Dragon were so paranoid that even when Emma told them the truth at the end of the first book they don't believe her. Sure it's hard to prove but Spider still looks her in the eye and says he thinks she's lying when asked a question about something later in this book even though she told the truth multiple times. There was literally no winning here. It was exhausting. She was just always THIEF and LIAR.

I really wanted to like this series but shit...GIRL UNH UNGH. I've read some dark and kinky shit in my time but everything about how Spider handled his relationship with Emma rubbed me the wrong way in this book. The more the story progressed the less I cared about either of them or the plot. The shit he did to her became unforgivable to me. Nothing sexy or hot about him or his treatment of her. He's obsessed and can't admit it. Refuses to let her go even without all the shit going on around them. And Emma was just pathetic to me. Empty threats, growing feelings for the douchebag and betraying body syndrome. All of it.

And the way the women treated her and the whole MC. How was any of this acceptable? Considering most of them are twice her age in comparison Emma is a child and they treated her like shit even when they got her truth and still didn't believe her. I can't even wrap my head around Emma staying with douchebag Spider and the women doing a turnaround and being nice to her by the end of their books. I just can't.

The only reason I read this book was because 1. I didn't know this was the second part. 2. I thought the heroine's trauma from being in a cult would be taken more seriously, which it was absolutely not. It was just treated as a plot point when the heroine felt like dissing(or in her words "standing up to") the hero at completely unnecessary moments which resulted in humiliating sex. 3. I knew where this book was going within reading the 1st chapter but the masochist that I am, I wanted to see what would happen when the Heroine finally broke. But she broke in every chapter and then promptly forgot about it.(-_-)

I mean, I don't get it. Are we, as readers, not supposed to trust our Heroine? Is this a Gone Girl, Girl On The Train kind of thing? Each and every interaction between the Hero and Heroine left the h absolutely devastated, every sex scene she was like," I will never forgive him" but then she and everyone around her kept forgetting and forgiving? Is she secretly a six year old who throws a tantrum everytime she doesn't get her way and therefore should be ignored?

I don't consider this wierd Heroine doesn't understand herself ping pong Dark Romance.

I also had a huge problem with the side characters pushing the Heroine to her sexual limits. I mean it's fine if she actually wanted the gangbang but pushing her to accept it "as a part of women". *Not Cool.*

Ugh really

Wow why did I keep reading this? How much crap can he do to her and she still loves him? This is like a sick codependent relationship. Granted she has no where to go, but really all over a tip jar? This is like a biker porno. Really no plot just a series of rough sex and humiliation.

The sad thing is I am going to read the next to see what is going to happen.

Oh

I had such high hopes for this second book. Yet Spider is not a nice man and the way he treats Thief (Emma) is appauling. But I had hopes that as soon as it started coming to light what she'd been through, his attitude would change.

No. It didnt. He likes her scared. I'm sorry, but I just can't get on board with the way he keeps treating her, with no remorse.

I like a little more compassion in my MC.

Its a shame cause its really well written, and you cant help feeling for the characters , even if the feeling is dislike.

don’t bother reading this crap

I’m honestly so upset that I wasted hours upon hours reading this absolute s h * t. Words cannot describe how utterly effed up and traumatizing these books are.

There’s ZERO REDEEMING moments. Zero. None. Not. Ever. At all. Zero. Zilch. None. It is so far past abusive, it’s disgusting. Spider MUTILATES an actual child, repeatedly raping her on every page. Humiliating her. Raping her publicly while crowds watch and cheer him on for violently assaulting her. It never ends. I need therapy from reading this dog s h * t.

There’s dark romance, and then there’s next level rape and abuse. This is worse than even that. Do not waste your time here. Also, tons of editing mistakes.

This is the second book in the series, and I do recommend reading them in order. Spider and Emma’s dark MC read continues. When Emma is caught stealing money, Spider takes the responsibility of punishing her. Emma is such a wonderful character, kind, strong and even rescues people she didn’t have to. Can these two people heal from the damage of their pasts? Dark, intense and wonderful characters. I was hooked from beginning to end. I loved it!

“It is so bad I want to give you a zero. But that’s not possible, so I give you a one.”

Nothing about this series was romantic. The end? There was a random moment where the author stated there was a conclusion to their love story. Except without the conclusion. Or the love story.

Worst romance I've read

I tried ,really tried . let me say first I'm not an over emotional girl ,but second book had me tearing up over the treatment of her, and not scenes where she was up set ... I'm not offended by consent given freely to sexual things .BDSM does not bother me .Extra people doesn't bother me .
These first two books bothered me .I read first one as we do with an enemy or bully whatever you take it .Anti hero. The thing with anti hero is they need caring redeeming qualities that will surface throughout the book. They may not change into nights on white horse ,but something creeps in .In this book nah. He used and humiliated her . The writer goes off on how she is turned on but see there is this thing called fear response The body protects itself and I really hated the book because the female main character was Stealing tips ,maybe a couple hundred to flee a cult member that.she thinks found her. Now she is the MC property ? Forever? Sex toy?Sex slave? He drages her fully naked through a bar room full of bikers ,he forces her to give him oral sex because she changed her shirt that got beer on ...in the bar full of bikers. And that just the tip of the iceberg .I was waiting for her to get a belly full and stand up for herself but all we got was.a description of his twinkling eyes and his smiley grin ,his enjoyment ...of humiliating her in a sexual manner .
Now the hypocrisy these men spouted was just eye rolling .He spouts how he never hurt a woman.......but your doing it every day ...how they going to kill Gary for hurting a woman and you won't stand for that .......but you are every day. Descriptions of the smirks whistle of the comments of how they love it when he does this s##t by degrading her and humiliating her for all to see . And how he made his other girls service the club when they made him mad.
He humiliated her because she saved a.little boy and mom that belonged to.the club .why?.Because she's not allowed to put herself in danger he is .
He tortured her by stringing her up in chains like a deer waiting to be gutted. Then proceeded to cut her ,by making a spider web in scars for others to see his mark. And when she tells him the truth over and over? He.treats her like crap and says he doesn't believe her .Oh but when he's around guys after leaving her hanging naked ,about how those cult were sick bast##ds and they need gutting because of treating woman like that only to go to house she called on phone and see a girl that looked terrified and everybody wanted to rescue her cause she's scared to death.poor thing ...but all you are doing the exact thing to the main FC!!!!!! ,oh don't forget the recording .As well as recording her taking bath and sex in bedroom ...without her consent or knowledge. He beats her with a belt and folks PTSD rears its head because of cult but does he care? No he just wants to make sure she don't drift off to a safe.place in her mind .nope can't have that .
So I get to 80% thinking he's come to his senses but no he got to punish her for making
him want her so he get clamp chains And her puts em on and??? What! Whinny what?
Parades her in front of club members wolf whistling ,smirking, adjusting themselves getting turned on by a man that needs a bullet put in the center of his head ..dead. Yep I said it DEAD.
Not sure if ill try to read last 20% or the last book cause I don't see this changing . she is a kidnapped victim ,coming from a cult she was born into with PTSD doing the things kidnapped long term woman do . she got the Stockholm as does the writer of this series

Evil’s Pawn is the continuation of Spider’s and Emma’s story. I did not read Evil’s Price or any others from Raven Dark and Olivia Alexander. This book was not meant to be read as a stand alone so I know I was missing parts of the story. I know the series list Evil’s Price as the first in this series and according to to the disclaimer on the bottom of the the description is states that Spider’s story is told over three books and then the following two books is another couple’s stories. Spider’s story will conclude in book 3, Evil’s Pact.

Evil’s Pawn is a very dark and twisted story. I won’t say romance as there was very little to no romance but a lot of lust and twisted sexual chemistry. They way Spider treated Emma is not romantic. As much as Emma did not have a normal childhood and was raised by the Colony. Spider was raised to believe that all “bitches” are not to be trusted and are liars. Unfortunately, for Emma he doesn’t believe her no matter what she says and Spider gets off on her pain. Spider is a very dark and twisted individual. As Spider is the SAA for the club it’s his job to deal with any threats to the club and as such he is responsible for Emma but he soon comes to believe that he owns her. Even when she does something that earns the respect of some of the club members Spider only saw her actions as putting herself in danger and he plans on punishing her for it. I don’t think he realizes why he feels certain ways toward Emma and he just translate it as anger. He is determined to keep Emma no matter what she does. Emma constantly compares how she was raised in the Colony to what happens to her in the club and what Spider does to her. She knows that no matter what she does Spider has control over her body and her life much the same as if she had stayed with the Colony and married Seth. Evil’s Pawn is a dark and very twisted read and even I have to admit it is very well written and pulls you in from beginning to the end and doesn’t let you go. You become so engrossed in the story you don’t want to put it down. Raven and Olivia knows what they are doing when it comes to capturing and holding your attention. I will be checking out more of their books and trying to figure out which other books that belong to Spider and Emma so I get a better picture. Hopefully, I won’t have a long wait for Evil’s Pact. Warning this is a very dark read and if you have triggers with violence and sexual assault or intimidation then this is definitely not a book for you. Don’t even try to see if you can read it as I am positive it will trigger you.

Spider continues to rape and humiliate Emma in this book, his knife play when he punished her in book 1, will leave her permanently scarred and he cut her chest into a spider web. Again Emma saves people close to Spider in this book and again it makes him so mad he punishes her and humiliates her in front of everyone. He beats her, films her which she finally finds out about and eventually breaks her. Spider had NO redeeming qualities and I agree with Emma that she hates him and he is just like her father and The Colony.

Spider manages to kill all the good feelings she had towards him. Emma's fault is she believes there are good in everyone, and it took her this entire book to learn that Spider has no redeeming qualities. I did not care for anyone else in that club either, sure Emma made a mistake stealing from the TIP jar, but she explained her situation and instead of helping her they leave her to be raped, used, beaten, filmed, made to feel like a whore and humiliated by Spider and even after she saves 2 more people, they just tell her they won't forget the good she did and to embrace her new life as a prisoner and Spiders dark side. None of the club members nor the president deserve to be in Emma's presence and I really hope she does not just forgive their behavior in the next book. How many people's lives must she save before she is forgiven for trying to steal from the tip jar to escape the hell she grew up in? Honestly I am starting to think she was better off at The Colony.

That being said the writing is exquisite, sucks you in, keeps you glued to the edge of your seat until the end of the book and then leaves you waiting with baited breath until the next book.

A bit boring

What I dislike about books like this one is that the main female character always “hates” the hero but does whatever he wants. I’d like for once that stories like this show women really disliking the men, and for those men to redeem themselves after they start caring for them.

But inevitably everyone around her thinks she’s supposed to put up with his bovine manure (see what I did there Amazon? Censure that, female dog!) because he needs her 🤮

I don’t mind darker themes, what I hate is the hypocrisy of disguising non consent by saying that “se wants it” she may physically respond but she said no, so get that in your little head, no means no, and if your hero is going to be like that then he doesn’t care nor respects women, so don’t try to tell me he’s “damaged” or that he can’t stand when women are hurt 🤦🏼‍♀️ because as much as you tell me that, you’re still showing me that he abuses her, that he sees her as nothing but a thing. Own your stuff, if you’re doing this then know some people will judge you, but don’t try to tell me it’s not happening, because it is.

The above rant isn’t because I’m against darker themes, I selected this for the dark, but I detest hypocrisy and cowardice, and I absolutely HATE victim blaming and a lack of understanding of consent. And I don’t mean the characters—they can be as flawed and disgusting as they want, this is fiction—I mean the authors.

Beyond that, the book is adequately written and there’s very few typos; the general story is interesting but this book was a big blob of meh, almost nothing happened, it feels like I could’ve avoided it and jump straight to the next one, it felt more like an interlude, it didn’t contribute anything to the general plot.

abhorrent.
*
Spider is a sadist and a sociopath.
**
this isn't dark it's digusting.
***
non-con sex throughout... it's rape.
****

The authors tried to twist a dom/sub context unsuccessfully...No clear rules were defined so Emma never knew what would set Spider off into a fit of humiliation and punishment. Emma may of enjoyed the facits of humiliation and pain but the life she grew up in doesn't allow her the education that it could be acceptable thoughts and behaviors.

Spider mind fucks with Emma who tries to fight for herself but inevitably is royally screwed because of growing up within a cult setting. Her age and naitivity set her up for failure. (Personally I'd like to think I would of taken the bullet instead of putting up with the BS).

The authors made Spider seem possessive at points and wouldn't "share" by not letting his 'brothers' see the sex video he was watching of him and Emma but he had been more than fine tying her to a tree naked, riping off her shirt off with her breasts exposed and mouth fucking her in front of others, and leading her around the clubhouse on a chain naked with nipple clamps....right...oh and then being okay with Rat watching the two of them having sex that was captured on video.

I couldn't even read the entire thing. I just was hoping to get through to the resolution with the cult....guess I'll never know, I will not be picking up the next book.

Fast paced, Dark and a edge of your seat compilation. Very superb. It offers a bit of everything and will end on a cliffhanger but do not be discouraged, it is one of those books that you will be setting on the edge of your seat throughout. It is really good and you will not be disappointed. Raven and Olivia have done such a phenomenal job with the writing that you will become immersed in a story that you really will be disappointed if you miss it! One of the best and not to be missed. Spider and Emma are going through what life throws at us, One bad decision and it takes a turn off the road that they were on, and then more decisions have to be addressed and the outcome is one that you will not see coming. I hope that with all the turns and twists it will be one that will not be easy or to be missed.

This second book in the trilogy is just as dark and full of mystery as the previous. There are bits of action as well which keep the pages turning. Emma is in such a sad situation and her entire life has been full of challenging circumstances. I'm not sure how she has remained so sweet in character and yet so resilient. Then you have spider who had also had a difficult life, but he had had a life filled with violence and lies and doesn't believe in any woman to a disturbing degree. The darkness in him is so of of control he is hanging onto it like a security blanket he refuses to lose track of, and when Emma threatens to cause him to lose some of that darkness he holds onto it all the tighter and lashes out say her that much worse. I hope he doesn't hold that much regret when the truth finally comes out. I look forward to the last book and seeing what finally plays out with Emma's demons.

★ “Spider smirks. “My tricky Little Thief.” ★

—>>> Time and again, Emma is found in situations in which things can go deadly wrong, but she makes it through to the other side with with her life intact. By now, Emma has been slowly and steadily taking over Spider’s thoughts and carving out a spot in his heart, one which he is determined to steel against her, because the club comes first and enough is happening, still with no answers in sight.

“I’m a moth to her flame, and I just know that if I get too close, I’ll get burned.”

With Spider blowing hot and cold towards her, Emma is left reeling emotionally from everything happening. She decides all she really has the power to do is forge ahead with her own plans, no matter how sinful and controlling Spider is, no matter how lustily she responds to his attentions. He cannot and would not help her.

Looking forward to seeing how Spider and Emma’s story ends!

Book two in this brilliant but dark MC series, begins where book one left off. Emma finds herself kidnapped and chained up in the back of a van. The man was masked and gave nothing away until they reached a drop off point where Emma was to be collected.
Spider is livid. He thinks that Emma has escaped and is determined to hunt her down. When they locate both her and her kidnapper he still doesn’t believe that she doesn’t know what’s going on. He still thinks her Colony tales far fetched and unbelievable. He’s convinced that the more he breaks her, the more she’ll tell. They’ve got two MC’s interfering with their lives, the cops are breathing down their necks, and Adamson’s name frequently keeps coming up.
Emma knows she’s innocent which is why the feisty young woman not only takes every punishment Spider doles out, but still fights him every step of the way....
Wow. These books are so gripping and well written. They are not for the faint hearted but if you are looking for a dark, captivating, gripping and sexy as hell series, this is for you. Fantastic!

I can't continue...I love some messed up heroes, depraved heroes in MC but whats the point here? We have 1 entire book of Spider being the "villain hero"...this man is truly awful. The only glimmer of salvation isn't that he cares for her...but that he likes to control her. Ok...let's say I can get down with that...I need to see a glimmer of the end somewhere. Instead I open book 2 and he gets worse?? The things he does to her are terrible..I sort of skim ahead and it gets worse, not better with no growth on his part. Whats the point here? I need 3 books of the hero being awful...why? By book 3 even if he improves which is doubtful, I don't think it's a love story...at that point its like some Stockholm Syndrome situation. Save your money and time and pick a different series that is dark with actual plot progression.

This was honestly a torture. Absolutely nothing changed. He abuses her and she hates him but gets wet every time he does some shit to her. I am okay with him doing whatever to h. I love dark, like pitch black books but I see no character development
Nothing! He doesn't care and she hates him, like we knew, because she verbalizes it constantly and then they fuck... Repeat!

I honestly wanted her to break. Mentally giving up and doing what he told her to do. But she rebelles. Sorry but if you are in a cult, where you are brainwashed 18 years!!! And living 6months outside cured her of submission to men? Not realistic.

At one point I wanted her to just give up that the pace would change. Anything to change this monotonous nothingness.

Spider is so evil

This is the second book for Spider and Stephanie aka Emma aka Wildcat. It’s difficult to accept the darkness that constantly consumes Spider. His cruelty is up a level in this second book. Spider punished Wildcat fir saving two people that he loved. Wildcat came from a cult where the women were covered from head to toe. She escaped but wondered into an MC that is open to everything. It’s not an issue the the freedom of the MC in all things, but the lack of after care for Wildcat that is missing. Spider is a selfish jerk. He is cruel to her in particular yet nice to other women. The story is written well, with triggers, not for the faint of heart. Read On!
