At The Distant Meridian: Memoirs of a Participant in the Spanish Civil War

Rate this book
Recognised as one of the most prominent men in the history of the Russian Navy. His memoir of service as senior naval advisor to the Spanish Republican Navy during the Civil War provides a critical eye witness account of the first year of the war in Spain. The chaos inherent in the opening stages of a civil war and the slow professionalism of the navy, (which he took part in training), is demonstrated in the text as is the political infighting and dubious loyalties of personnel involved which set the Spanish War part from other 20th century conflicts. A study of both the military and political side of the war.
