A true misfit may be the key to finally defeating Lorach, but only if Jason learns its powers in time.
Having stopped Lorren and saving the egg, Jason now faces his most dangerous threat as Lorach moves on Dragon Haven.
With the city under attack from a strange new power, only with an understanding of the misfit dragons will Jason—and the dragons—finally be free. When even Dragon Haven seeks to use their power, Jason is forced to make a choice between the people who took him in and the dragons he pledged to protect.
For Jason, long a misfit himself, the choice is more difficult than he ever imagined. One choice means Lorach will extend their influence beyond their borders and continue their reign of devastation, but the other means the misfits will be sacrificed.
The first 3 books grab you and take you down a path that keeps you hooked. The character development is good especially in book 1-2. There’s a lot of twists and excitement to keep you reading.
The only reason I didn’t given this series and this book a 5 star rating is I felt it got redundant. There were numerous typos and even sometimes the wrong name was used for a character in a scene!
The last 2 books seemed rushed.
Another flaw was the repetitive nature of the language. It was almost like the author needed to make a word count for the book. He kept saying the main character needed to understand more etc. It got old.
Personally I just skipped those lines that were redundant or repetitive.
If you’re looking for a good series - this is one. This author is one of my favorites. I would recommend these books to anyone.
I wish more thought was taken with the last 2-3 books in this series.
Very Imprecise! Might be considered a first draft of a book. Great plot line but no depth.
Hard to read at times because unsure who said what and what they are saying is so very very imprecise. Poor grammar, inconsistent plot lines. Maybe English is not his first language. Continuously repeats things like the characters ramblings of not being good enough or not understanding, then all of a sudden in same sentence he is, or does understand. Uses same descriptors over and over, doesn't give enough dimension to characters and what's going on. Could be so much better if were edited, going back over to correct errors and develop characters and story line. Needs to be rewritten they all do. Every book he has typed could really be impressive if given a lot more time and effort.
This series could have been so much better if the author had shortened some of the overly stretched and repetitive internal monologues of the main character and spent (a lot) more time on the worldbuilding and other major characters. D.K. Holmberg's ideas behind the story is very interesting, but the execution is rather weak.
The SLOOOOOW progress and the seemingly constant internal monologues about ALWAYS THE SAME things is a major issue. It even is done during action scenes where it actually spoils the thrill.
Makes one wonder if he actually makes use of a proper editor.
I generously gave this book and others in the series a four star rating, possibly because I usually like this author. Now I will have to read other authors for a while to get over this series. Some books in this series were better written than others. By the last book, I was worn down and rushed to get to the conclusion. The story idea was interesting, the character and world building was good. But however, the verbiage of as repetitive, seemingly to get a higher word count, characters got mixed up by using the wrong character name right in the middle of a scene (switching the names), Repetitive questioning by the main character of what he should do, very sophomoric thinking by the main character, as if he were years younger than his actual age and experience should have made him.
While the story is interesting, Holmberg departed from his usually tight writing style. There are so many 'asides' explaining the limited action, all of the books in this series feel disjunct and uncomfortable to read. That being said, the characters are interesting and the story line is logical. This final book in the series comes to an abrupt end and feels rushed in it 6 book resolution. I read all of Holmberg's books. This series is my least favorite, not because of story or character, but simply due to the disjunct writing style.
Jason has become more than he ever thought he could be. He wants to save all the dragons. Dragon bones become Something very magical. What he does in the dragon one years is very magical. In the end he thinks of himself as. Misfit. His relationship with janeya grows and they work together to Overpower Jessica. This has been a real page turner. As I got into the story I could not put it down.
I thoroughly enjoyed the Dragon Misfits series. Within this series is a young man discovering something very special and enduring; a place within himself that finally felt right. Jason also found hope for his beloved dragons. Finally he also found someone to share it with. As Jason's adventure continues, there is always the hope that he can finally find a new hope for himself and his beloved dragons.
The dragon misfits series is well thought out and continually testing the reader’s imagination. However, the series is fraught with typos that are unacceptable and it drags. If the author had hired me to proofread the texts and he had offered more thrilling battle scenes I might have read the series in one week instead of 3 weeks. Otherwise, not bad.
Similar to previous books in the series, this one has quite a bit of inner monologue that I skimmed through. This one has a bit of repetitive bits as well. Not sure if the author just forgot that they already described things and did it again or if the cut-and-paste process of editing cause some snafus. There were things about this series that I enjoyed but I’m glad it’s over.
I really loved the story. I also loved the way he concluded it. The reason that I only gave 3 stars is because of the writing. I became frustrated with the constant repetition of thoughts and phrases that did not add at all to the story. I know keeping them out would have made for a shorter story, but sometimes less is more.
A very good tale. Jason is a young man raised in the cold North mountains. Jason stumbled upon a mountain cave with an occupant he was not expecting. Jason meets an Ice Dragon, his life changed to one of Dragon partner. Jason bonds with Ice, Iron Forest and several more dragons. A great adventures worth six books!
This rating applies to this whole series. The characters are well written and with each plot the suspense and excitement build. Can't wait to tackle another Goldberg series.
It can’t be over. The excitement and adventure was wonderful. I really enjoyed the trials that they went through to save the dragons and especially the end where good prevailed.
I had to take a break between the 5th and 6th books of this series. Not by choice - I had to wait for this last one to be published. I thoroughly enjoyed this series. I have always been a big fan of anything to do with dragons. This series does not disappoint.
Author knows one thing, dragons sell and so something must be written. And he wrote 7 books with pretty much negligible story. No plots, no character development nothing.
This was a fitting ending to the Dragon Misfits series. This series is a very unique take on dragons and how the type of dragon is determined. Jason is a very interesting main character, and the villains are very evil.
Not much for reviews , has been a dramatic read. Wish it was not end. But that's how it goes. May be read again. Book 7 Jason settled down for new start.!... Teaching..
This was a complete letdown with a confusing headache added. Too many repetitive phrases, like “He could sense the power and knew what it was.” There is more than one way to say power, connection, over whelmed. I plowed through just to find out how it ended. This was NOT his best writing.
An ending. Jason has much thinking to do in this last book. A lot happens to bring this to a conclusion. This has been an interesting series but I found this last book to be boring.
