Even the Sun Will Die: An Interview with Eckhart Tolle

Rate this book
When Eckhart Tolle agreed to be interviewed on September 11, 2001, he could not foresee the historic nature of this date or the suffering that would follow. As the day's events unfolded, in real time, he responded with a calm and clear voice, helping to make sense out of the fear and chaos that will forever define this date. Even the Sun Will Die documents this historic meeting with Eckhart Tolle and the comforting wisdom he revealed that day.

We live in a time, he says, when we define ourselves through our enemies; and science and technology are in the service of human madness. Yet even in the face of disaster, a miracle happens when we say "yes" to living in this moment and no other. This great opening, he teaches, can serve as nothing less than the beginning of a revolution in human consciousness with the potential to transform our world and everyone in it. Also for the first time on audio, Eckhart Tolle comments on his own awakening, and what he sees as the next step in human evolution.

From insights into the way out of suffering, to evidence that a new consciousness is already rising, Even the Sun Will Die confirms Eckhart Tolle's place among the most important and accessible spiritual teachers of our time.

Eckhart Tolle is a German-born spiritual teacher and internationally bestselling author whose work has profoundly influenced the contemporary spiritual landscape. Born Ulrich Leonard Tölle in 1948 in Lünen, Germany, he experienced a transformative spiritual awakening at the age of 29 after years of depression and anxiety. This profound shift in consciousness marked the beginning of his journey as a spiritual guide and thinker. Tolle abandoned his doctoral studies at the University of Cambridge to explore and embody the stillness and presence he had discovered, eventually becoming a spiritual teacher based in London and later in Vancouver, Canada.
Tolle rose to prominence with the publication of The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment in 1997. The book, which emphasizes mindfulness and present-moment awareness, resonated with a global audience and was later championed by Oprah Winfrey, catapulting it to international bestseller status. In 2005, Tolle released A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life's Purpose, which expanded on his earlier teachings and explored the role of ego in personal and societal dysfunction. The book also achieved massive commercial success, further solidifying Tolle’s reputation as one of the most influential spiritual authors of his time.
His teachings draw from a variety of traditions, including Zen Buddhism, Christian mysticism, Sufism, and Hindu philosophy, though he remains unaffiliated with any formal religion. Tolle emphasizes a non-dualistic approach to spirituality, focusing on the importance of presence, inner stillness, and the disidentification from ego-based thinking. His accessible language and calm demeanor have helped millions integrate spiritual practice into daily life.
In addition to writing, Tolle has delivered talks, retreats, and webinars to audiences around the world. In 2008, he partnered with Oprah Winfrey to produce a groundbreaking webinar series based on A New Earth, attracting millions of viewers. He also co-authored the illustrated book Guardians of Being in 2009, further exploring his core themes through the lens of animals and nature.
Tolle currently lives in Vancouver with his partner, spiritual teacher Kim Eng. Together, they continue to teach and support global audiences through online content, publications, and events. Widely regarded as one of the most spiritually influential figures of the 21st century, Tolle’s message of inner peace and awakening remains as timely as ever.

Love and compassion emanate from Tolle's voice in this cd. What is missing is a way to get were he is. After listening to all his works and reading them over and over I have found some peace but...

I have found that what happened to him is not going to happen to most of us spontaneously. We still need the slow discipline of evolving over time. I know it is blasphemy to mention the words time and Tolle in the same sentence but someone has to admit it!

there is still a place for meditation and gradual stages for some. instant change is "desirable" if I can use such a biased concept as desire, but accepting that instant transformation is not happening is also ok.

I'm fairly biased towards everything Eckhart Tolle right now not only because I love his teachings, but his voice on audio helps me fall asleep. :)

"Even the Sun Will Die" is a book based on an interview given by Eckhart Tolle on 9/11/01. This is an Inspirational book the central theme being that pure consciousness is the foundation of our being that is beyond all thought, perception and mind and that the truth of who we are can only be found in the present moment. Eckhart Tolle believes finding this reality is the most important thing in our lives and that this pure consciousness extends beyond our death.

I didn't enjoy this interview as much as his others audio things. I don't know if it's because I've already listened to some of Tolle's speeches, or because the interview had really long answers to a handful of questions. To the point that after the first question, I had a hard time following how the answer was relevant, maybe Tolle tried to adapt what he planned to say to that specific question, who knows.

It's kind of weird that he keeps giggling, I know that it is his style, but when the question goes 'Blah blah 9/11 blah?' and the answer goes 'Blah blah *eh eh eh* blah blah *eh eh eh*', weirds me out a bit.

Quite an amazing interview given by ET on the same morning as 9/11 occurred back in 2001. The topics touch a number of areas, all of which are relevant to gaining insight into the temporary and impermanent nature of things (ie practical Buddhist philosophy), and also in maintaining some sort of sanity in a world that is dominated by thought, mind, and belief constructs. ET seems reflective and serious in this interview, which is largely ET talking with minimal interruption by the interviewer.

"Allow this moment to be. It seems too simple, but that's how it works." That's the last line of Tolle's lecture from this CD. His teachings always give me so much to think about and practice in my own life. If you haven't listened or read Tolle yet, I'd highly recommend it.

A lot of what he says is repetitive. However, I find it helpful to listen and learn different ways of applying the ideas with each slightly different slant.

Allow this moment. There is only one Now. Spaciousness. Allow what is unfolding by saying yes. Say yes to Now. Yes to what Is.

The first part of the talk was scheduled for 9/11, just after the Twin Towers came down. Eckhart did not reschedule the interview, did not disappoint, and did not fail to comfort.

In the second part, he shares some of the physiological changes he experienced after awakening at the age of 29.

So grateful that my path crossed with his teachings.
