The sleepy beach town of Summer Haven is waking up to a new nightmare--reality TV!
Lance Avery, host of 'Mysterious Expedition'--a popular adventure documentary show--is in town to investigate a sunken shipwreck rumored to be the flagship of the infamous pirate Baron Tombstone, allegedly the last known possessor of a mystical artifact known as the Hand of Cain.
Summer Haven Police Chief Becca Cole knows all about the Hand of Cain. For the last year, she's been investigating mysterious deaths tied to the artifact, with a little help from the unlikeliest of partners--the Grim Reaper...Death himself, incarnate in the flesh of one Silas Mot, who has temporarily relocated to Summer Haven to discover why people are dying before their time.
When an inexplicable tragedy strikes the TV production, rumors abound that the death can only be attributed to "supernatural causes", but Becca is determined to find an all-too human killer.
Meanwhile, Silas is facing a different sort of crisis. With each bizarre death, he's losing his powers, inexplicably transforming into a mere mortal. If Becca and Silas can't solve this latest mystery, it will mean the end of his job as harvester of souls, to say nothing of his very existence.
International bestselling author Kent Holloway lives on death. Literally. With more than twenty-two years’ experience in forensic death investigations, he’s seen it all. Experienced the worst that life has to give and never let it dim his sense of wonder or humor. Now, he brings all this experience, along with a zeal for uncovering the folklore and superstitions of death, to the written page as author of mysteries, forensic crime fiction, and paranormal thrillers!
He is the author of six paranormal thrillers, including his highly acclaimed Ezekiel Crane series, as well as his forensic thriller, CLEAN EXIT. He’s also written his first installment of the Baron Tombstone adventures—a series that steps directly into the world of the dead—in the shared pirate world series, Tattered Sails.
Death investigations isn’t his only foray into the darker side of life. He's also an adjunct professor of criminal justice at St. Johns River State College in Florida. He’s worked as a private investigator and a newspaper reporter covering the crime beat in Florida. When he’s not writing, designing book covers, or investigating deaths, he spends much of his spare time researching folklore, as well as investigating ghosts and cryptids throughout northeast Florida.
Kent Holloway has written yet another hilarious tome in the adventures of Silas Mot, the Grim Reaper on holidays (so to speak). If you like your mysteries funny, obsessively page turning, and a reveal that you leaves you guessing to the last few pages, then this book series is for you.
This book 2 in the series was an absolute blast to read. Silas Mot is such a fun character, and he and Police Chief Becca Cole make a great team. Pair them up with a reality tv show shooting in their town, and you have a wonderful combination!
This book contains a Grim Reaper, a zombie, curses, murder, and pirate treasure. I found it to be great fun from beginning to end. I highly recommend this book and series!
Just finished the second book in the Grim Day’s Mystery Dead in the Water. I love both of these books. Fast passed funny and weird. Can’t wait for more.
Ilene Nebbles-Fielding, one of Summer Haven's most influential citizens, has arranged for a reality TV program to come to town. The program, 'Mysterious Expedition' along with its host, Lance Avery, is looking into the old pirate ship, 'The Lord's Vengeance'. Although, given the history of the ship and its cargo, there appear to be few, if any, old relics left to be discovered. There is one notable exception - the ship is rumored to be the last known resting place for the Hand of Cain.
When a tragic underwater incident kills Lance Avery, some claim it is supernatural, while others insist it was just an accident. Further investigation points more toward murder than accidental or supernatural causes. The result is Chief Becca Cole becoming more determined than ever to get to the bottom of the case. Meanwhile, the Grim Reaper Silas Mot, has his own issues to deal with as his power begins to diminish and he faces his own potential extinction.
Why did Ilene Nebbles-Fielding bring the show to town? How did Lance Avery die? Was it an accident or murder? How will it impact the crew and the show? Can Chief Cole and Silas Mot unravel the mystery?
Kent Holloway has another wonderful story with his latest Grim Days Mystery!! The story is complex and very gripping, with plenty of twists and turns to keep the reader engaged throughout. I am definitely looking forward to more stories in this fantastic series!!
A couple of things to know. First, there appears to be within this story references to events in a story between book 1 and book 2, which the reader might not have ever seen, and events from a story long before book 1, likewise might never have been seen. Also, this is the second book in an arc; not everything is nearly wrapped up at the end. There is, however, a satisfactory ending. There is no feeling of a cliffhanger. The plot is well-drafted with dandy little twists. I enjoyed the reading quite a lot.
This is the second entry in the Dead Days series. Police chief Becca Cole and Silas Mott aka the Grim Reaper are back in a wacky mystery. This time a sunken pirate wreck is the main focus of a TV show and its host. And funded by a wealthy resident of Summer Haven, Florida. It turns into an official investigation for Becca and a hunt for Salis looking for an artifact om the ship that could hold the key to his current predicament. It was definitely a great follow up to the first in the series. And these characters and situations are entertaining to hold my attention.
