Jim Emerton, an icon of pigeon racing and an intellectual giant whose talents and outspoken views have made him famous far beyond the pigeon world, is a self-confessed legend in his own lifetime. He bred and raced birds for four decades with spectacular success, and now in retirement shares his wisdom freely, in person and in his copious writings, with his many disciples. A natural loner, at times even a recluse who prefers remote seashores and quiet fields to pubs and parties, Jim has known wild times and dark days, exultation and depression, moments of glory and ignominious defeats. Here he looks back on his eclectic life, with contributions and tributes from some of his many admirers.
Great read so much to keep the cerebral cogs turning
This book is a detailed rendition of Jim’s life written in a flamboyant detailed factual style which would rival any of the literary greats works. I have to agree with the title because it is all of the above but it’s more than this as in parts in plain sight it becomes an educational learning tool on a life gone by which is easily transferred and can be used as a model to improve thinking in these modern times. I enjoyed and relished reading this book by Jim as it stimulated my own thinking and feelings of my own memories lost deep in the caverns of my mind. This book is still more than that for those who like me love racing pigeons it also gives a clear concise method of how to get your bird’s to perform to their best which is simplicity it’s self when explained by a genius. So to sum up if you’re looking for a book that takes you on a journey over time and distant lands far away with feeling and meaning whilst educating yourself on the finer points of life and pigeon racing. Written in a style that flows poetically from beginning to end, then this book will go some way to suppressing your literary appetite. Dave Bunker Brierley 2020
