He broke her heart. She won’t let him do it again...
ELLIE: Wyatt was my brother’s best friend—and my first love. But any warm feelings I had for him died when he dumped me (over the phone) to chase his dreams.
I never thought I’d see him again. So, imagine my surprise when my boss assigns me to act as his behavioral therapist.
Refusing isn’t an option.
It shouldn’t be a problem, though. I’m strong enough to resist his unearthly magnetism…right?
WYATT:
All I ever wanted was to play professional football. I gave up everything to get here. Now, I could lose it all because of one screw-up.
And as it turns out, the only person who can save me is Ellie. I broke her heart (and mine) when I left all those years ago. She probably hates me.
But that won’t stop me from trying to make amends… or from wishing that everything could be different between us.
Will a little forced proximity help Ellie and Wyatt overcome the pain of their past? Or will their second chance at happily ever after end as badly as their first?
If you enjoy a sweet second chance romance, love to read about credible character transformations and sigh-inducing kisses, then you'll adore book three in the Laws of Love series. Though each book is a standalone, you have the perks of meeting characters from previous stories.
Putting Love First - Wyatt and Ellie used to date, but broke up due to Wyatt’s work commitments. Fate brought them back into each other’s lives, but even though the chemistry between them was evident to everyone, Ellie’s was still sceptical about rekindling their relationship. It would take a show of faith on Wyatt’s part for her to acknowledge her true feelings and give him a second chance.
I'm loving in love with the series so far and it seems book three is just as amazing as the first two books. Wyatt & Ellie’s story takes you on an emotional ride, which deals with a number of hard-hitting issues, but I was happy, that the story has a wonderful conclusion. I recommend you read this phenomenal book, as you will really enjoy it.
I received a copy of this ARC and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
I’ve been enjoying this series. This was very different from the previous ones. I’ve never been in therapy before so this was a really nice behind the scenes glimpse at how beneficial it can be. I loved see the emotional healing process and how his anger reactions slowly improved. A central theme shining through in this book is the power of forgiveness. How forgiving can be a selfish (in a good way) act since you think of how much you yourself benefit from letting go of past hurts. Other than the therapy aspect of the story, the relationship with Ellie and Wyatt was very sweet and funny. Having someone to stand up with you when you face these emotional breakthroughs was key in the healing process. Although there is plenty of drama here I find that it still had a lightness to it and hope on every page. Made me laugh out loud in several parts. Rating: PG, clean, due to the therapy nature of the book several parent child issues are lightly discussed that could be triggers.
What a beautifully written second chance story. Law #3 is about Ellie and Wyatt, former sweethearts. Wyatt broke up with Ellie over the phone, when he got drafted. Ellie is now a therapist and when Wyatt needs anger management therapy, he’s surprised to learn Ellie will be his therapist. Wyatt’s secrets he’s kept hidden will be revealed and they spend time together outside of therapy. Will they reconnect or is Ellie going to get together with another doctor who’s interested in her. I won’t leave any spoilers, but I will say, if you enjoy reading about second chances, forgiving past wrongs, and family and friends, you will enjoy this book.
I received an advanced reader copy of this book and this is my voluntary and honest review.
Having the guy who dumped you (over the phone) as your first solo client as a behavioural therapist? A macho sports player who doesn't believe he has an anger problem (despite him being sent for anger management as condition of staying in the team) who doesn't want to talk about his past...Said guy being best friend of her older brother who never knew they had dated in the past? What could go possibly go wrong? Very amusing clean romance, (with some insightful glimpses into how our past affects our future) and I'm looking forward to the next in the series. I received this book as an ARC and this is my honest review.
This book was more clean than Christian though there were some references to the Bible, etc. It was good except for one time that it used the acronym for taking the Lord's name in vain.
The characters were likeable and the story interesting and fun (though I would hope a real therapist wouldn't take on her ex-boyfriend as a client since it's totally unethical).
If I were to guess, I would say the author is not from the United States, so writing about an American Football player didn't flow naturally. The terms she uses are not consistent with the way an American would speak and it did take me out of the story slightly (footballer, cuppa, fancy, overuse of gridiron).
Ellie is a headstrong therapist. Wyatt is an NFL football star quarterback, and Ellie's brother's best friend. The pair grew up together and have a history. They haven't spoken since university, but now find themselves forced into close proximity for a while.. their respective careers on the line.
Old feelings are unearthed, and new sparks fly. This is such a warm hearted story of rediscovered love, and reevaluated lives 💕.
Definitely worth a read.
This book can be read as a standalone, but does have crossover characters from the other books in the series.
The story dragged but that wasnt the worst part. The author's attempt to emphasize that one character was born and raised in the South through extremely over the top "country" sayings was distracting and annoying. Th language used by the main couple also didn't match...are they in their 30s or 60s? Is this the 21st century or 1950? Please show me one millennial ( and they have to be at least millennial due to a reference to a poster of a NFL player from the early 2000s) who uses words like "dally" in reference to a relationship. There are other example i could post, but frankly I've wasted enough time on this book.
QB and his therapist..... I really loved reading the journey of growth, healing, and forgiveness both Ellie and Wyatt go through as we read their story. I loved that Ellie profession not only helped them in their own evolution but also becomes a foundation for their future decisions and actions. Ellie not only has to deal with her past with Wyatt but she has to help him with his current situation. Wyatt grows so much in this story its inspiring, he not only manages to overcome past family issue, he confronts current predicament and is able to navigate all to a more prosperous future that includes love.
This is book number 3 and I’m just as in love with it as I was with the first 2. The storyline draws you in and keeps you hooked. Wyatt and Ellie are such lovable people, realistic and easy to get along with. At times I almost forgot that Wyatt was a famous footballer, with his down to earth way of life. It was also great to see Devon and Laia making appearances, as well as the mention and update of Nathan and Eva (from book 1). This is definitely a book, or even a series, worth reading. I received an arc copy of this book in exchange for my voluntary and honest opinion.
I have loved every book from Agnes, they're clean and she's an incredible storyteller. Don't Fall for the Athlete is a beautiful book about forgiveness and second chances. The book started slowly with character building, which is necessary for the complexities and revelations during therapy. Absolutely love Wyatt and Ellie, their story is so beautiful and touched my heart, and Agnes never rushes the ending, which was amazing. I received an advanced copy for free and this is my honest review.
Sure, I like steamy reads. But I also like clean, Hallmark-style books, where a glance can mean so much more. This sweet second chance romance was an instant hit with me. I connected to the characters and though it's a sports romance, all references to football were clear and not too long, so it didn't bother me. I loved the character's chemistry, the witty writing style (can't get why some say it's stilted dialogue -perhaps those people just speak very uneducated English...my two cents). I highly recommend this.
A sweet second chance romance where forgiveness and hope for the future are the major themes. I enjoyed reading it so much. It was the first in the Laws of Love series I read but then I went back and read books one and two. Ideally, one should start from book one - all are standalone but you get to know the side characters that become protagonists in the later books so if I could redo it, I'd begin with the first book. Btw, all are awesome so you can't go wrong.
I received an ARC to review: Agnes has narrated a sweethearts' tale, without compromising on depth and sensitivity in her characters. Ellie and Wyatt's story was beautiful to witness and proves that love, forgiveness, grace, healing and second chances are indeed possible! I'm not a particularly sporty person or supporter, but that did not detract from the riveting read at all!
Enjoyed reading Ellie and Wyatt’s story. After briefly dating while still in college, Wyatt breaks it off with Ellie to join the NFL. They reconnected as therapist and patient years later. Can Ellie learn to forgive him and trust he will not break her heart again?
I love this series, so it was no question whether to read book three. I must say, for me, this series just gets getting better and better. I love second chance romances, especially if clean, and Ms. Canestri made again an excellent job with the story, characters as well as the settings. I just hope she'll write the fourth book quickly, I already have it on preorder.
This is my second book by this author and I love her writing style. Her characters are witty and have lots of heart. Ellie and Wyatt are so great together as they help each other grow into the best versions of themselves. Definitely recommend this book!
Fun and endearing story about the football player and the therapist. Wyatt and Ellie have a past but can they also make a future together? I loved how they worked in changing themselves for the better. I also enjoyed the role their friends played in their lives and decisions. I recommend Don’t Fall for the Athlete to all you lovers of second chance romance.
A wonderful story of forgiveness and a second chance at love. Ellie and Wyatt must both learn to forgive past hurts in order to find their love together. The path to love may not always be a straight road, but they learn it is worth the work to get there.
Start and Ellie fall in love. However, Wyatt chooses a football career and leaves Ellie behind. Ellie is now a physical therapist and Wyatt is the patient with anger problems. The question is through ups and downs can they come back together.
If you like books that move your heart, make you sigh, and worry about their heroes, then this is for you. A wonderfully clean romance, with characters that grow on you. Now I can't wait for book four to come out.
Hard to find clean second chance romances that aren't too...well, boring. This one isn't. It's funny, sweet but also full of chemistry. Plus the whole theme about forgiveness lifts your spirit. At least it did to me. Well done.
I don't think I will ever be in a mood to read this. I will have to let it go. I don't think it is bad but it did not interest me within the first few chapters and I am not willing to keep up with the pretense of enjoying it.
Another of those sports-related romances offered by Kindle Unlimited that caught my eye. I thought the cover was catchy and I'm a sucker for football. This was a quick, fun and lighter read serving its purpose as a break from the tough stuff that gets me all teary-eyed and emotional.
Forgiving someone is so hard. Wyatt broke Ellie's heart and she is not going to let him do it again. Loved how they reconnected and seeing them spend time together. I do not always like internal thoughts but these two had some really good ones. Giving someone a second chance and asking for forgiveness are two of the themes in this book. It was great catching up with Ellie's brother aka Wyatt's best friend, also liked hearing his thoughts on them. My favorite in the series.
