Publisher's Note: Fury's Love is a sweet romance set in 1880s Texas, filled with suspense, humor, endearing romance, and a theme of loving power exchange.
After raising her children and retiring from a career in education, Tess Matthews is following her passion – writing romance. Her stories are full of adventure, intrigue and above all romance, but not your ordinary vanilla romance, Tess writes about strong alpha men who love their feisty women and take them in hand when needed. Although she enjoys all types of romance stories, her favorites take place in the old west – after all, who can resist those cowboys!
Tess lives on the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains in northern Alabama with her husband and a variety of dogs, cats, and chickens.
So this book takes a boring young girl, uses an implausible premise to turn her into something unique and interesting, brave and fully capable and then reduces her to not only a boring girl again, but now a boring girl with no agency and no backbone who unbelievably loses all of her skills after she is married when she decides she needs them again. The one time she fires her gun she misses after bragging for most of the book about what a good shot she is and when she kills someone at the end of the book by accident she is guilt ridden. We are supposed to believe that she was a successful, feared bounty hunter for 3 years all by herself in the old west and feels guilty about killing the bad guy, accidentally at the end of the book. Blech. No. The personality changes this girl goes through multiple times was unbelievable. the "Hero" spanks her in anger, dismisses her abilities and achievements and makes her afraid to make her own decisions and I'm just over it.
Sweet romance = no sex until marriage and includes freaking out over sex on the honeymoon and fade to black for any actual sex.
I loved who Belle was while she was Fury. She was strong and independent, capable and respected. It’s who she was when she was Belle that left me sadly unimpressed. She became a spineless ninny constantly overwhelmed by her emotions. Travis drove me to mental ward. I didn’t find his actions to be those of a protective nurturing dominant. I thought that a lot of the time he came across as a misogynistic jerk. His opinion about Fury the bounty hunter? See above about capable and respected. As soon as he knew Belle and Fury were the same person? Incapable of even feeding herself without a man to tell her when and how to do it. Every last one of Fury’s accomplishments is immediately negated by the fact that she’s a mere female. I get that this was the prevailing opinion at the time, but it’s difficult to find the hero sympathetic when he holds that opinion for the whole story. If Belle and Fury had been a more successfully blended character, I would have loved this book so much more. I also would have liked to see Travis come to respect Belle’s strength and fire rather than trying to break her of it. In the end, this book and I just weren’t the right match for each other. I received a complimentary copy of this book through Booksprout.
I read some reviews where readers were a tad annoyed that the heroine—a fiercely independent bounty hunter named Fury—was more “Belle” whenever the hero was around. I don’t want to ruin the story by explaining this duality for those who haven’t read it yet, but I think some of these unsatisfied readers are missing the point: the heroine was Belle first when she and the hero met, and thus that is heroine’s natural personality. Fury is a hard person wrought from anger and grief, and it would’ve been harmful and detrimental to the heroine to keep with that vengeful personality for the rest of her life, especially because it wasn’t her natural, happy state of mind/heart. And the hero knew this.
I believe that we have to accept people for who they really are, including the fictional people authors present to us readers. Not every heroine is going to be strong and brave and sassy and independent. Some heroines are going to be immature, or fragile, or weak, and some of those heroines will need to be rescued by the hero. Accept them as is.
As a reader, I wanna be able to relate to the heroine. And I don’t always feel strong as a person. Sometimes I feel helpless and in need of rescue. And that’s okay.
This story was told at a good pace and kept my interest until the end. Belle was brave and quite fearless at times, particularly when she was in her alter ego of Fury. Fury was out for revenge and no one was going to stop her. She hadn’t count on the Texas Ranger, Travis Parker. They had met and liked each other previously. Travis was very protective and possessive of Belle. They have a few dangerous events and as they are in each other’s company so their feelings deepen. But will Fury’s desire for justice prevent their staying together. This was an entertaining read. I received a copy via Booksprout and have voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
A simply captivating, all action love story in the wild west This is a simply spectacular read right from the start to the very last page of the book when it is simply impossible to put this book down until you reach the very last page. Belle had just experienced one of the greatest nights of her young life after a dance and then meeting a handsome and charming man that had given her, her very first kiss and she had felt her heart stutter and she knew that she wanted to see Ranger Travis Parker again. When she had returned home that evening with family friends who had left her at the end of then drive she had known something was amiss when she saw a lamp being carried around the rooms however, never could she have assumed what she would discover in her fathers study her dead and dying parents. Belle had nearly died on that night and then she had found a new inner strength where she had changed her identity becoming Fury, a very successful bounty hunter that travelled the American townships finding murders, rapists, cattle rustlers and so much more with just her horse Swift and trusty dog Max who are her loyal travelling companions and protector. Her fathers best friend and old ranger Black Hawk and Little Dove had been the ones that had helped put her back together and he had trained her every single thing he had ever known so that she would survive her pledge to find and kill the two men that had killed her parents, she had to find them first and was determined she was not going to let anything stop her. Little did she know that the man who she had never forgotten had continued to search for her for the past three years and had never believed that she was dead but was at a loss why no one had seen her or had heard nothing of her. Imagine the surprise when as Ranger Travis Parker is in one of the towns listening to the praises of a certain bounty hunter by the name of Fury, however the small young man he sees in the bar is far smaller that he imagined. Then when he had looked up at him and he saw those violet/blue eyes and there is a sudden tingling in his brain and his heart, could it possibly be? This is a totally wonderful book there are so many ups and downs and twists and turns that you will be blown away, the characters and the plot is simply wonderful. I cannot wait to see the next book by this wonderful author, I know that it will be equally as wonderful as this last read. I voluntarily received and review an Advanced Reader Copy I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the great writing.
Travis and Belle meet at a dance, but when she goes home she finds her parents dying, and someone ransacking and burning the house down. She now becomes Fury the bounty hunter, dressed as a man and trained by a ranger friend, she searches after the two who killed her parents and many more, gaining notoriety in the region. Travis is still searching for Belle and he finds her, in Fury at a saloon. The characters are terrific and I love the buildup of Belle to Fury, with her horse, Swift, and dog, Max, by her side. Intense feelings and surprises along the way, keep the pages turning quickly, wanting to see what goes wrong next. More twists, like getting horses out of a burning barn and the outcome, and adventure in this book than romance, but still heartwarming. Old west values and ideals are true to the times, but in the present I would have slapped Travis for some of the things he did. I loved how she was giving another disheartened woman a chance at a new beginning.

When Belle was 18 she was coming home from a dance and she discovered her parents dying in their house. She hid while the killers ransacked the house and set it on fire. When she got out of the house, Fury the bounty hunter was born. She learned to shoot, track and everything else she needed to be a bounty hunter while she searched for the killers. Three years later, she met up with the ranger that she met at the dance and he realized who she was, the young girl he fell in love with that night at the dance. He was determined that she was going to go home and she was determined that she was going after the next bounty. The two of them dance around each other as they fall in love. I enjoyed this story. It is a great story line and I loved that all details were explored thoroughly. I didn't want the story to end. I'm looking forward to the next book in this new series.

I quite enjoyed reading this somewhat suspenseful, historical western romance & the sensual scenes are implicated but not detailed. The plot is interesting with likeable, perfectly flawed characters. There is: a young woman (Bella) changes her appearance to become a young male bounty hunter (Fury) but a man from her past (Ranger Travis Parker) is determined to claim her for his own, a cold-blooded murderer (Cutter Dan), some twists, devastating memories, drama, intrigue, action, threats, danger, vengeful feelings, determination, secrets, discovery, longings, confrontations, defiance, verbal conflict, devious plans, attempted escapes, discipline, spankings, compromises, contentment, love & a happy conclusion.
Vengeance is a hard road to follow. After the murder of her parents, Belle is out to find the killers. She is now calling herself Fury and for three years has worked as a bounty hunter. Now she does have a problem one determine Texas Ranger. I love the banter between Travis and Belle there were some cute parts along with the drama and danger. I really enjoyed reading this western. I cannot wait to read more by this author. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
I love a great historical romance/suspense. Belle's life was destroyed in one night when she came home from a dance. She met a man (a Texas Ranger) she thought she could be with, but when she got home her world as she knew it was destroyed and Fury was born. Travis (ranger) looked for her for years as did her family and Belle wasn't found. But Fury was born after that and she became a bounty hunter, in hopes of finding the killers who murdered her parents. Really loved this story. HEA
I thought this book was well written and very funny at times. The interaction between Travis and Fury was great. The pranks she pulled to get away. It started out on a sad note but it became more light from there. Then the action, there was always something to keep you reading. This was one of the best old west story I have read in a while. I like Tess Matthews and the way she told this story.
