5 That Way Lay Deathwalkers Stars

Mirrors is the first book in the Hunter Bureau series by Blaze Ward.

Holy shit. Okay that first twist at the beginning of the book stopped me in my tracks. So busy trying to fall into the character Greyson Leigh, and his introduction, I didn't expect anything to veer off the norm. This is such a cool concept to implement in a book. I don't believe I've experienced anything quite like it. And, I can imagine there at least a few authors upset about not doing it first.

I am a little perturbed not to end this first installment with a deeper understanding of the background information. Yes, it's obvious that a conglomerate of aliens found Earth, and intervened in their selfish destruction of their homeworld. That simply doesn't explore the further reaches of the implications behind the individual alien species. We were really only introduced to the Phrenic. Which leads me to wondering whether the next books will follow a similar course and continue to introduce us slowly, on a case by case basis.

I wonder what will become of Emmy, if she'll ever single out any discrepancies? They are practically non-existent other than the glaringly obvious consideration that the body is no longer homo sapien.. Along similar lines, I find myself considering whether Rachel will continue on her original path to a future in London or if recent changes and suspicions will lead her to altering her course?

Then there's the general corruption of his Hunter Bureau that I'm sure is still largely unbroken.. I would honestly prefer if he left Earty behind and became a human(ish) Hunter/cop across space and planets....

A very interesting read - 4,5 stars

Original and interesting.
The main character has enough depth to make the reader to learn more about him.
The length of the book might not be as others of the same genre but the plot/story was tight without any superfluous moments.
Looking forward to read more with the following installments of the series.
