I adore Courtney and her workouts and having been a fan of her for a while I knew I had to try this book. It is in separate parts and I really enjoyed the fact that it was not just an exercise book/plan but also a story of Courtney’s life and how she’s ended up where she is and who she is.

I think it’s a great book for those that are considering getting back into/into fitness because the guides are brilliant and clear and explain every move alongside pictures. The first week of the 28 day challenge in this book is, I feel, is very accessible and easy to follow. I found it fun and manageable, even after a few months off of her workouts!

I’d definitely recommend it and would love to know if you’re a fan of Courtney or are considering getting this fab book!

I've been following Courtney on Instagram for years and I took part in so many of her live workouts during the first lockdown - I was so excited to get my hands on this book!

I loved it and it definitely lives up to the name of being a Pocket PT (although the book defo won’t fit in my pocket lol). I think the beginning of the book, which was a little insight into Courtney's life, explaining where she came from and the struggles she faced whilst growing up was fab! The overall layout was perfect and the exercises were so easy to follow - only thing I would say is that it could benefit from having an index at the back or a page number next to each exercise in the 28 day plan so you could find the exercise explanation quicker! Luckily, where I’ve done a lot of her sessions before I knew the majority of the terminology but there were some I wasn’t 100% sure on and had to flick through and find it.

So far, I’ve only completed Week 1 of the 28 day plan but I really enjoyed doing the 30 min workouts during my lunch break from work. They are perfect, quick but effective workouts that you can easily do at home whilst no access to a proper gym! I loved the mini pep talks and motivation she gave throughout too!

I was actually lucky enough to be gifted a copy of the book from Tandem Collective and as a group we completed a workout-a-long of Week 1 and it really gave me a kick up the bum and motivation to get going! (I am most definitely aching after a few weeks off).

Definitely recommend!

I have had Courtney's app for a few months now but only dabbled around and not yet fully committed 😂🙈 but I have just finished reading her book and I loved it!! I feel motivated and more supported, having Courtney on my phone via the app and Instagram (she does respond to messages 🥰 and is so helpful and lovely!) and this book, I feel like she is always there to support and guide! I am now ready to get going with the 4 week challenge and improve myself physically and mentally for myself and to role model for my children. Thank you Courtney! And I'm glad you do what you do as I don't think I could do it without you!

📚 Book Review - The Pocket PT by Courtney Black 📚

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

The Pocket PT is an illustrated guide and 28 day home workout plan.

I must admit I had not heard of Courtney Black before I started reading this book. So I went into this book with a totally open mind and plenty of optimism and energy 💪🏽.

Let’s start with the good stuff... At the beginning of this Book Courtney talks in depth about her battle with food and the effects her eating disorder had on her day to day life. This was a very eye opening and a humbling section to read. She opens up to her readers and allows herself to be completely vulnerable which I absolutely loved. I felt connected to her and was so happy for her as I read how she turned her life around! What an inspiration 🌟

The second half of the book consisted of exercises which she illustrates and breaks down into easy to understand sections. I loved the selection of exercises she chooses. You can literally do any of them with just a mat and some dumbbells... brilliant 💪🏽.

The back end of this section is the real crux of the book... The 28 Day workout! Each Day is labelled with a set of exercises. Which is fantastic, however you do have to flip back and forth working out which exercise is which... this isn’t ideal when you’re doing a 30 minute Hiit workout as your heart rate will quickly slow down again. However, that said I am sure as you go along you’ll learn the exercises by heart and it won’t be an ongoing issue.

As part of our group readalong we all did the first 7 days of this workout plan and let me just say .... WOW!!!! That is a proper workout 💪🏽💪🏽 if you can keep up with this plan, you will DEFINITELY see results. Courtney is not messing around with this book. She means business!!

Although, I enjoyed this book and I thought the exercises were well put together I would liked to have seen a nutritional plan or advice within the book (as most people in the fitness trade will tell you 80% of most PT workout plans is diet.) Even just a chapter or two covering the basics would have complimented this book.

I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking to get fit at home, especially during lockdown x

The Pocket PT is an illustrated 28 day home workout guide (although the exercises could easily be completed in an gym environment when not in lockdown).

The workoutalong followed the exercises in the plan for the first 7 days. The exercises took the form of circuit style HiiT bodyweight exercises, strength exercises using dumbells and ab / core exercises, and two rest days. Each exercise is clearly explained and accompanied by a photo of the exercise. Unfortunately there is no index at the back of the book for each individual exercise and whilst this doesn't prove to be a problem to those with experience or with some knowledge of the names of the exercises and how to perform them, for a complete beginner I think this could / would cause some frustration at having to flip backwards and forwards to find each illustrated exercise depending which day of the plan you are following. A plan reference for each day in the plan section of the book would be beneficial.
I would also like to have seen illustrated modifications for each exercise in the book, so that all abilities could perform the exercises safely according to their ability.

Overall, the book is a good visual reference guide for those who would like to workout from home following a plan without the need for lots of equipment. I'd recommend this book for anyone who wants to kick start their fitness and workout from home.

I think this is a great idea for people who can not get to the gym or just feel too conscious to go. It has a wide range of exercises that get the heart pumping. The reason for the 3 stars is that as someone who doesn’t know the exercises, it can be quite hard. You are told what to do each workout but it just bakes the exercise. It would be better to have a page number next to each one so you can easily find it to look at how to do it. This wouldn’t be an issue once you had done it for a while I’m sure. It just makes it hard work to flip though a book to find the next one. The author has an Instagram page and she shows things on there so that could help. Overall a good idea but not as user friendly as it could be for people new to working out.

I have been working out with Courtney via her app for the last month and I can see such a massive improvement in my shape and my love for fitness!! I was skeptical at the start as she kept saying ‘you’re gonna love it’ and I was like am I though? But I did! And I absolutely LOVE working out l!! I always make time to work out and like she’s said in her book, if you know you’re meeting a friend on Wednesday evening do a workout in the morning and that is exactly what I do now! Always making time for if. Can’t thank you enough!!!!

Really enjoyed this book.
The exercises are simple to follow and the background story of Courtney Black’s path is really interesting and motivating.
Now I just have to try the exercises and see what results will I get.
It is really good for people like me that don’t really have a lot of free time and that can’t really go to the gym.
An easy read and exercises well explained, I can’t wait to start the programme and see how it works out
