There are some worlds separate from ours - worlds that are thought to be just whispers. But what happens when one of those worlds collides inside our own? That’s exactly what happened in the sleepy town of Harthsburg. When Theodore Lexington’s body flew up into the chilly air it was clear that his day was turning into a real-life nightmare. But the magical creatures that swept him into the sky, known to some as Twilight Breathers, took more than just Theodore. With only a small group of people left behind, three friends Eliza, Ben and Audrey set out to save him, along with any other townspeople they can find. But the more they learned the more they wonder if the creatures are really there on their own accord. Will the three friends be able to save Theodore in time? And who or what is behind the appearance of the Twilight Breathers?

Fantasy realms, realistic friendships, page-turning twists, and just the right amount of romance; Goodbye Theodore is definitely an indie-book worth checking out.
Candy Mitchell’s debut novel did not disappoint. After an opening chapter that sets the scene to unravel a dark fantasy, take the journey with three companions on the search for their friend after mysterious creatures corrupt their small town of Harthsburg. With descriptive world-building that keeps you right in the center of their twisted reality, you’ll be just as deep into the search-and-rescue as the characters. Each one distinctly defined and relatable, Candy’s strength lies in her ability to generate characters you’ll consider friends almost immediately upon meeting them in the story.
There’s a steady pacing to the novel, with moments the plot races with rising tension in all the ways you want it to. While the book suits a young adult audience, it steadily holds its place with adult readers as well. You can tell Candy’s got a passion for the lore she writes in Goodbye Theodore, effortlessly mystifying the setting and enhancing the otherworldly undertones of the story’s main conflict. Her attention to detail in portraying the Twilight Breathers amplifies racing hearts while page-turning through this story.
Will these friends save Theodore, or will they end up just like him? Thank goodness there’s a sequel!
This was a very quick paced story, full of intrigue and action that kept me hooked the entire time! I loved the plot and the characters and this kept me eager to know what happens next the whole time!
I finished this in one sitting, that’s how much I loved the story! It’s one of those books that will help you get out of reading slumps! The characters were so easily likable, the writing style was very beautiful and lyrical and the whole vibe of the story was so mysterious and thrilling!

Harthsburg is just like any other small town and the people who are just like anyone else. They get up, eat breakfast, and go to work, day after day. That is, until one morning, when Theodore wakes up and it’s early quiet and the people he sees every morning aren’t there. Theodore still pushes on about his normal day. He is nearly to work when, even Theodore, is unable to escape the strangeness. Now it’s up to his friends to find him, but will they find Theodore in the others that are missing before it’s too late?
“Goodbye, Theodore” Is full of twists and turns is an absolute adventure to read. Can you help them find their friends or will you be sucked into the abyss with them? Candy Mitchell weaves a tale unlike one I have seen before. One of mystery, suspense, and Magic’s with lore and new things popping up along the way. Getting to be a part of this ARC tour was amazing and I can’t wait to see what comes next!
I'm going to admit, I struggled hard with this, honestly.
It kind of just threw you in to the mix and I felt like I was missing a story or two. It actually took me to nearly the end of the novel to become aware of what was going on. The story had a very Stephen King "The Mist"-esque feel to it, especially as the towns were pretty much just expendable at that point. I think, though, the next story might explain a lot of my confusion so hopefully I remember to read it, haha.

Immediately drawn in by the first chapter, which is beautiful and has a poetic feel to it with the way it personifies The Night. The storyline keeps you hooked by constantly dropping little shocks of information throughout. In terms of characters, I'm very drawn to Audrey and Gerald. The author's use of metaphors are on point. Great story and can't wait for the next.
I enjoyed this book! It was very well written and very descriptive. I really could picture what i was reading. This book is suspenseful. I stayed up late many nights reading and always looked forward to the next chance I had to read. I cant wait for the next book to see what happens next!
It took me a bit to finish the book due to circumstances, but I would've read this in one go if I could've. A horror-story about the sudden and simultaneous abduction of nearly an entire town, and how a group of the few people left work together to solve the mystery and save their friends from the supernatural abductors.
It was very realistically and well-written in terms of mental and emotional processing, all the inner goings-on felt natural and the process of understanding their situations felt like a very normal pace (I often find that characters either take too long or too little to think and react and respond to their new-found situation). I specifically loved Audrey, because of how intense and fiercely brave she is.
I did have a hard time realizing what exactly had happened to the people that got taken, since it got phrased like a hole opened up underneath them or something similar, but I got there eventually. Because of that kind of confusion though I also had a hard time understanding what was going on and where the story was going. I do think it's fun to be left a bit in the dark and figure stuff out with the characters, but until like a third or half in I had no idea where the story would be taking me, and couldn't judge if the characters were doing the right or the wrong things.
I also thought it was a bit confusing how often and abruptly the inner monologue/emotions would switch between the characters, and then immediately switched back, it really tore me out of the flow of the story and happenings. Generally I also struggled to understand the choices of the characters, they felt odd or nonsensical at times, and I was a bit annoyed as to why, if we get the occasional glimpse into another characters head like mentioned above, we couldn't get a short explanation as to why they chose to do something this way (the last example that comes to my mind is why Eliza killed him when she did, and not before or after, or the way everyone reacted to Taylors hypnosis, that entire thing from when she showed up to when Wyatt showed up felt odd and unrealistic nearly? I kept thinking "Why is everyone just saying and doing things with no motive??").
All that being said, after they got to the cave I feel like the story got generally more streamlined and I was genuinely upset and surprised that it ended on the line it ended at. Super glad I've got book 2 lined up :D

Book Tour Stop 6 + Review: Book: Goodbye, Theodore ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ out of 5 ~ Review - Something has happened to the town of Harthsburg. When one of their own goes missing, just vanishing in front of their eyes. Was Theodore taken?
When Theodore woke up that morning, he went about his usual routine like he always did. But this time, it felt different. He couldn’t pinpoint what it was, but it was lonelier than usual. Once he gets to his workplace, he sees his co-worker vanish in front of him. Then he disappears.
I really enjoyed reading this book. It was such a quick and fun read. You get a mysterious town that is experiencing something odd, something the town people can’t explain. But with each other’s help, they’ll be able to save their town and their friends. The book is told in 3rd person and while I don’t usually like reading books on 3rd person, this POV went well with this book. You needed to get the perspective of everyone in town which is what brings this book together.
Everyone in town is slowly disappearing, so what will the few remaining do? Well, you have to read Goodbye, Theodore by Candy D. Mitchell to find out.

Hello Fellow Readers,
I really wanted to read a horror story and I thought this would be perfect to fill that itch and it did, at first. While the pacing was a little slow but I liked it that way since it helped me understand what exactly was going on. I will say I did like the three MCs, they felt real and reacted how I felt real people would react in these situations. It wasn't until we got to the real meat of the story where Goodbye Theodore lost me.
This is where the majority of the fantasy elements came into play. With this addition, it felt like a little too much. I felt lost a majority of the time and would have to go back and reread which made it take longer than I would have liked. I will say that the ending felt a little abrupt but that made sense due to the fact that there is a second book coming out.
Overall, a pretty interesting books but not sure if it is for me.
Goodbye, Theodore is a great debut. I liked how the mystery of what was occurring in the town was strung along, though, I did wish the journal was introduced a bit later. The internal dialogue did jump around a moderate amount, but it was usually easy to keep up with. I do like that it gave more insight to each character. This is a light horror read great for anyone who wants to curl up with a supernatural read on an overcast day.
I devored this book in a single stand. This is so well written, the book has me hooked the entire time with intresting characters, romance, action and twists.
This book is worth a read!(or maybe two, because I am sure I will be re-reading it again in future… haha)
Highly recommend!
