This volume was marginally better than the last one. At least Kulan Gath is dealt with, but he is far from the all-powerful character he was built up to be. The final part dealing with Sonja and Gath's confrontation is a rushed and unsatisfying affair. I'm still hoping that the other writers from the next volume onwards will have better tales, so I'm not giving up on this mediocre comic yet.

Kulan Gath's oppression has reached all corners of Hyboria. The ones who bow are blessed, while the ones who oppose are swiftly disposed of. Sonja and her ally, the ship captain Valera, join the weak resistance, but they fight an uphill battle.

Never any less than easily-readable, but turning Sonja into a pawn between two ancient sorcerers is kinda antithetical to her whole deal; if she's Girl-Conan, then she should be about somewhat the same things as Conan - being the hardest motherfucker alive, the pinnacle of human achievement. The Ultimate Libertarian fantasy.

Making her an eternally recurring concept imbued by an external party turns her into Girl-Shazam! You'd think it'd be Elric-ish, but the book is definitely not cosmic and weird enough to be Moorcockian.

A fun book, though the dialogue and storyline were both very simple, the type of story we've seen 100 times. The art and colors were nice to look at especially during the scenes of the camp at nighttime, Red Sonja herself could probably be a little more muscular though....I prefer the way Ron Adrian draws her in the "cover art" section at the back.

What fun.
Nothing much seem to happen and some plot twists are just stupid but there is that mysterious undercurrent.... the one that forbids you to put what you are reading, down.
But that art was again rushed and clumsy. Just as it very often seem to be in Dynamite Comics.

This is as vacuous as modern comics get. No plot to speak of. Kulan Gath (he of the silliest hat and necrotic visage) sort of looms about being evil (again) while a girl in a chain mail bikini chops all and sundry up with her sword. Repeat, repeat, repeat. There isn't a single character who engages at all. The action is just dull. Where is the adventure and wonder?
